Celebration of African culture.

@Ednited n Hati13, what do you think about these bulky Nigerian traditional clothes? Are there bulky Ethiopian clothes like these ones?

Kenyans have no culture and it's such a shame! So, they usually get so pissed off whenever they see other Africans celebrating and admiring culture.

TayserMahiri, mtis, NairobiWalker, Jay254 and co, you guys should learn from your fellow east africans here. Watch their musics and learn how African cultures must be promoted!

I have been challenged here by their Ethiopian songs, no matter how modern these Ethiopian songs looked, the culturak rhythms, dance steps, cultures and sounds are always present.

I have always come across modern cultural musics from Uganda and mainland Tanzania, especially Uganda and none from Kenya. Are Kenyans Europeans? Why don't you guys just relocate to Scandinavia or Western Europe if that is the case?

Holly about the Kenyans not promoting their african cultures in the media or entertainment, i think this is quite true.

***Since i've been on this thread n all the pages i checked back, i have seen nothing of such from them. Instead they try to criticize anyone posting cultural related stuffs. As if we are Europeans. It's unfortunate on their parts i think.

Others consider him among the greatest Ethiopian singer. But for me, he is the greatest ever of all. He wrote all his songs, he created all his melodies and his voice is excellent.

He love Ethiopia so much and even commented that Atse(emperor) Menelik II expansion to SW, S and SE was a great deed. This comment angered some unpatriotic Oromos and other south peoples.

Oooh, buh hope the anger never led to any conflicts?

Can you explain what this song is about to me? Seems like he was singing about the unity n people of Ethiopia? Ednited.

Diamond Platnumz song Nasema Nawe is a good example of Coastal music that's more African, even how the women are dressed is very East African. Some Swahili societies still have matrilineal system (Comoros for example), as a matter of fact Comoros was ranked top in the Arab world for women's rights. Bantu societies regard women much higher than Arab societies.

-Yeah the Arabs were Swahili speakers, they still speak it in Oman
-I dont think the were attacked on the mainland
-There is a bunch of Arabs and Baluchis in TZ. You have coastal Arabs who can be considered Swahili and you have the mainland Arabs who i don't think can be called Swahili but because their ancestors most likely arrived at the coast before they went inland, they may be Swahili...confusing stuff...let them figure that one out...

Kk. Enlightening. Do any of the arabs in TZ still speak arabic as their mother tongue?

Basically, they do but there is slight difference like they don't wear the golden things on their front head.

I can't speak Tigragn and Oromia languages. But, since Amharic and Tigragn has a common ancestor(Geez) among many other different ancestors, there are common words which I know. There are also some borrowed words between Amharegn and Oromo from each other vice verse.

Amharic is 60% Semitic and because of this, it's the least Semitic language which shows relatively less Semitic behaviors coming to other Semitic languages.

Kk. Do most Tigrays n Oromos in ET speak Amharic? (since it's the official language)

Realgana:

Please educate me on how or when Fulani jihadist attacked kwarrarfa.

Well, am not an expert here, but the little i know about this was that the jihad wars of the fulanis against Kwararafa and other middlebelt groups occured around the early to mid 19th century (1810-1840) and even until the late 19th century till the british arrived and defeated the caliphate, emirates and all of the rest of Nigerian peoples.

**** The fulanis immediately conquered and expanded to form Adamawa (Yola) and Gombe emirates from Sokoto sultanate as soon as the conquest of hausaland was complete and Kwararafa was attacked from Yola & Gombe emirates.
Yola gave birth to Muri (Jalingo) and Wase emirates (am not so sure about the latter). That was the begining of Jihad attacks/conquest on Kwararafa people because both Muri and Wase people were Kwararafans (Jukunoid peoples).
However Wukari (the capital of Kwararafa) defeated the fulanis woefully when the fulanis wanted to lauch further and they and the other neighbouring tribes of present day Adamawa/Taraba states (like the tribes of Numan federation), Mumuyes, Chambas and others who were not conquered by jihad continued warring with the Yola & Muri emirates until the British came.

Yeah we are relatively slimmer than others. To tell you one fact, Ethiopia consume less calories daily compared to any other country in the world.

Even if all Habesha dresses, hairstyle and Eskista are basically the same, but Tigrays and Eritreans Habesha culture is slightly different from Amharas.

Even in Amhara, there is slightly difference between North Shewa, Wello, Gondar, Agews and Gojjam.

See the slight difference in their libs(dress) and hairstyle.

1. Tigray
2. Wello Amhara
3. Wello Amhara
4. Gojjam Amhara

Koool. Beautiful culture n people. We non horn africans would hardly ever be able to tell the difference between Tigrays n Amharas cultures n people. You look too similar. Buh the hairstyle of the 1st lady, don't amharas also do such?

**** Can you understand Tigringa or Oromo languages?

@ OP, frathermathy, nice post.

I am from the middlebelt, so lemme help correct some little mistakes about the middlebelt ethnic groups here.

First of all it is JUKUN by spelling n not JUNKUN or JUNKUM as u spelt in some places. lol cheesy

>>>>Also, your number 22, Tivs were never part of Wukari federation.
Wukari federation was the successor state to the old Kwararafa kingdom after the kingdom was divided by internal divisions and jihad attacks from the Sokoto caliphate jihadists.

So, Wukari federation only consistes of the Jukuns, Kutebs, Ichens, Chambas, Jibu, Wapans and many other similar ethnic groups of Kwararafan descent in present day Southern Taraba, buh if you talk about the older Kwararafa kingdom which was the predecessor state to Wukari federation, that's where the Idomas, Igedes, Igbirras, some Igalas, Alagos, Mumuyes and many other dozens of middlebelt ethnic groups in Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Adamawa and even Cross river states come in.
Thanks.

The dance move is called -ESKISTA

I started Eskista since I was a kid. I was really good at it but the more I grow is the less I Eskis. I think I got shy when I grow up, I stopped doing it

We still hear Oromo and Tigray songs. Addis Ababa is a city of diversity. Every tribe lives in here. If you go to other city for example, they only hear their own tribe song. Addis Ababa is a welcoming city to all.

My favourite Oromo singer is Abush Zeleke

from Tigray, I hear Dawit Neg's song

I love the Eskita dance, it looks cool n fun cheesy

Its a hybrid but I would say its more Bantu than Middle Eastern. Aside from how we dress and some of our food, we are different from Arabs.

Take the Omani Arabs that went back to Oman after the Zanzibar revolution in 1964, their own people shunned them for being more African than Arab. Our mode of dress may be similar but once you get deep into our culture, you can see clear differences.

Kk.

After the fall of Zagwe in 1270, state capital disappeared and urbanization started to fall. This was because Abyssinia emperors together with their camps continuously moved from one region to another to check rebellion and to see the administration.

In the 17th century, for the first time after the fall of Axum and Zagwe, Abyssinia emperor Faselades founded a Gondar and it became permanent captain until Addis Ababa was found in 1896 GC.

Worse, most of Ancient and medieval towns, great architectural achievements and historical books were destroyed when Ahmad Gragn of Adal conquered most of Abyssinia for 12 years. In 1543, with the help of Portuguese we defeated them and liberated Abyssinia. Adals were Somalians, Hararis and Afars.

There are many historical towns in Ethiopia, but since we are mainly dependent on Agriculture, majority of Ethiopians are farmers and live in rural areas.
