Nigeria has no middle class, it is either you are poor or you are rich. Many folks working in Nigeria cannot boast of 1 million naira in their accounts.
That is a lie and has no economic sense. How can a country, no matter how poor, have no middle class? Let alone Africa's biggest economy? If Egypt and South Africa have middle classes, why not Nigeria? The middle class should be assessed according to Nigeria's economic conditions, not with European or American parameters.

Nigeria has a middle class, no matter how small it might be. In fact, all countries have a middle class as long as that class is measured using the country's economic conditions.

The attractive thing about Canada is its ease of being a naturalised citizen and its benefits regarding working in the US. Other than that, Canada would have been a big-for-nothing Norway and a second-class UK. She is lucky America is abut to her.

IRuinUrDay:
Good morning, Nlder's. Pls, I need your advice. I created this account just now to hide my identity.

Without wasting time on this, I need your advice as I want to take a blind step because i don't know what else to do.

I graduated since 2018 and since then, I don't have a good job till now. Just surviving that's what I am doing.

Currently, I asked my mom to help me secure loan of 100k while I source for another 100k from friends and relatives and repay in 6 months time. I have planned with my wife to secure a room apartment with at least 60k for 1 year and use the balance to hold ourselves till we get something better doing. This is because I want to relocate to Uyo to hustle with my woman and our only daughter. I can't leave my woman aside and travel to Uyo alone. I want her to join me either in 2 weeks time or 3. She is a stylist and can work as Chef. She is also educated with O'level and I have been taken her through computer lesson's.
As someone who knows Akwa Ibom to a great extent, I will try to do justice to this post. First, the aspect of her cooking depends on the kind of food she cooks. She cannot out-cook Akwa Ibom women regarding Akwa/Cross delicacies. If your wife is Igbo as you are, she is better off cooking Igbo ethnic dishes targeting the Igbo population in the state. Most Akwa Ibom people and even me sef (I am Igbo) would not patronise a non-Akwa Ibom woman who cooks their delicacies. The belief is that you don't know it better than they do, and I hold the same belief. Just as there is a growing number of Yoruba-focused restaurants to cater to Yorubas, which are owned and womanned by Yoruba wo(men).

When you say computer lessons, please, what do you mean? Basic Microsoft packages? There are more than a thousand and one Akwa Ibom folks of both genders who know those kinds of stuff. The salaries in Akwa Ibom are abysmally low. It is one of the reasons ambitious youths flee the state to Rivers, Lagos and Abuja. Although Udom tried to increase the number of private establishments (mostly in his senatorial district, which is not Uyo), these firms are biased towards employing Akwa Ibomites. Rightfully so, considering the sheer number of un(under)employed people with tertiary degrees. Akwa Ibom hs plenty schools o and they attend them in large numbers. It is a game of numbers and probability. Even the accounting sef, the government sponsors indigenes to get ICAN qualifications. The private firms employing non-indigenes are those with a national spread, and the recruitment process did not hold in Akwa Ibom. Rather the employees were posted or assigned to work in the state.

Now, I don't have any job assurance in Uyo but I have made some contacts. The 2 person's I contacted said once I relocate, I should let them know to help me get job. Also, I don't mind dropping my certificate just to do any job till I get my dream job. I am also working to get myself a driving license certificate and ID in case, I get a driving job in Uyo.
What kind of job did he say he can help you get? Please it is important you learn to ask questions so you plan accordingly. Are there jobs in Akwa Ibom? Yes. But are the jobs that you will like/prefer or suit your career even if lowly paid? No one knows.

Pls, I want to know if it's wise to relocate to Uyo without any job at sight?
If you were single and had no children, you could have hustled it out in the state even with no job. But now, you are married and have a child. Lots of permutations and combinations would be involved.

Also, my current state is one of the worst ever as firms here don't pay there staff good money. Like some pay Accountants here 25k/month to work from Monday to Saturday.
The same applies to Akwa Ibom, and who knows, you might even be required to attend your boss' church on Sundays. grin If you want a fairly paid accounting role within anywhere in the southeast and south south, head to Port-harcourt. How many Akwa Ibomites do you know who move to Abia to work corporate jobs? Why, then are you interested in doing the opposite when you were not posted by a bigger firm or the federal government/agency?

Your ideas will be great. My other areas of relocating is Enugu, Port Harcourt, or Anambra. Pls, help a brother.
Best option. The other will be Anambra or better still, Asaba.

I grew up in ondo state , I used to teach secondary students physics and maths before I gained admission and I continued whenever ASUU is on strike.

My concern is that you are married at 27, I would have suggested that you try and do your masters and PHD.
During which you can teach secondary school students , help undergrads do their assignments.
Since you are married your bills will keep raising and won’t go down. I pray someone will be able to offer you a job here and pls sit down and plan well the next 13 years are very crucial in your life.
He is better off doing ICAN with the money you want him to do MSc and PhD. He can earn better with that qualification within Akwa Ibom/Rivers states than academic jobs. Academic jobs are reserved for indigenes and the non-indigenes who get them are those who were close to powers that be or schooled in the state and/or speak the language. I can get an academic job in Akwa Ibom before OP, even though I am not an Akwa Ibomite. The state is biased towards her people and to think you have educated Akwa Ibmoites in Lagos and Abuja who will grab those opportunities if offered. A close female friend was denied a lecturing job in Rivers because she is not from the state even though she was born and bred there and speaks the dominant language.

Additionally, not all courses need academic qualifications for career progression. Rather, they need relevant certifications. Accounting is one of such discipline. Another is cybersecurity. You get jobs with huge salaries by possessing their certifications not by having MSc and PhD.

You graduated 2018 you had no job and you still ran to get married. To make matters worst, you are even Igbo. Omho shocked shocked
Honestly, it is tiring. The quintessential Igbo man marries in his early to late 30s or even forties so that there is something on the ground to cater for the offspring and future. But bros married probably when he was 25 and already has a child. Give him two years in Uyo and he will have another or even twins, thereby having three children in a state wth few job opportunities.

It can be tiring honestly. I really don't know why a man whose feet are not strong and has no solid family base should look towards marriage. I could have married and had my mom take good care of the child. But there is more to life than marriage and having children. Fine, not everyone is like me, but at least be up and doing. Marriage and children limit mobility. Na why before Oyibo and East Asians marry, the cities they reside in are where they have jobs or network of economic opportunities. Those in the hinterlands have strong family support systems to reduce the costs of taking care of the children amidst the few economic opportunities.

Why can't some people learn from the previous generations's mistake?

The people that really notices the difference in Nigeria and abroad are people from a struggling family, who will reach abroad and wouldn't even mind doing 3 jobs at a time because they are just grateful for just easily finding any job at all. The comfortable upper middle class family find it hard to adjust because they are not really suffering in Nigeria, they just want to belong to Japa bandwagon but on reaching abroad they all realise they had been enjoying full time in Nigeria
No be lie sha. It is fairly OK if the person while in Nigeria moved from the lower middle class to upper middle class than being born in an upper middle class. Transitioning go hard.

LordAdam16:
I did not want to bring this up because it's an issue the governments are hellbent on solving, while a good section of the elites seem to prefer a low replacement rate to tackle overpopulation
Depends on the elites. Elites in the west are OK with immigration. I see innovative and radical solutions coming from East Asian governments. Those ones are not too open to immigration, and if they are like Japan or Singapore, they are very selective. The language (Chinese, Korean and Japanese) alone scares those who can fill the void.

And what thanks does society get? You don't want kids anymore (so which person's kid should take care of you in your old age?). You want to be exempted from the draft. You don't want to work in physically-intensive jobs. You do not want to marry and be the bread winner of your home with the high salary you get.
To show you how confused these feminist miscreants are, they were against Sweden abi Denmark making national service mandatory for women. I found it absurd. In Singapore, they are against the same thing. The males are slowly agitating that women should be enlisted to serve the country compulsorily, but they refuse. Na wetin make South Korean men vote for the new president because they said women get so much preferential treatment which they don't, as national service is mandatory. South Korea has the lowest fertility rate globally. It is terribly low I even feel for them. Her situation is worse as almost two decades so far, the government has spent so much money (in dollars sef, then imagine the figure in Won) to entice women to birth children. Dem no gree born. Now, there was a rumour that the government will scrap national service for men who could have at least three children. South Korean women are against it o, not even the men wey dey serve national service.

So for the love of all things sacred, what is your purpose? Why do you get to enjoy all the perks of a modern civilization built on the backs of so much blood and tears, if a lot of your actions destabilizes and truncates humanity's progress. If a politician starts campaigning to exclude women from the workforce so men can take their place and assume the responsibilities they do not want to shoulder, you'll see them wear pink hats and hyperventilate. He would not drop the mic before he is canceled.
In the next decade, those kinds of politicians will spring up unless a new pension system is designed to account for a large number of elderly people and a low number of young people. Without a redesigned pension system, radical efforts would have to be made. I see this coming from countries not really interested in immigration. Even immigration is limited, as the sources see their birth rates plummet. For instance, Italian politicians will come to the realisation that either they force Italian women to born children or accept Nigerians in large numbers to save the current pension system. grin

To be honest with you, I'm done coddling that gender. Even if we solve the ectogenesis problem and invent superintelligent AI that makes the low replacement rate a non-issue; I can assure you that they have an excuse ready for why they can't have an artificial womb birth them babies or robots mind the kids.

-Lord
if that one happens, then men have won it the same way men are the ones benefitting from women sexual liberation. Just that it sounds somehow say na machine go born pikin. shocked

Everyone isn't broke in Nigeria. Some people have such a rosy life here in naija that the Japa life you guys hype is more or less slavery to them.

If you are broke here, you have every reason to Japa
People earning 1M or even 3M have japa'd. The people who japa are not poor people. Emigrating is expensive, so I don't know why you think those who japa'd are poor. One girl don narrate how her family spent over 20 million to study in the UK. Is that a poor person? During my final year, one of my female friends got sponsored to Canada by her uncles with over 15 million spent on her head. Is that a poor person? I know how much was spent to process mine, and I don't come from a poor family.

Anyone who japa'd without selling an asset or owing anyone or organisation is not a poor person.

When I read posts like this and the previous ones on frontpage, a question always plague me . It is "Them use marriage swear for we Africans"? The truth is it is as if the existence of the average African centers on "copulation" and "reproduction" Hey that's me, removing the sugar coated word you use to beautify the quoted words which is MARRIAGE. Ask an average Nigerian the essence of marriage then you will realize it doesn't go beyond easy and justified access to sex and reproduction. So it baffles me, when people type lengthy posts discussing "prick and toto" matter everytime.

If women are becoming masculine because they earn then men should go farther by offering more than money in their relationship. It's very simple.
While I understand the angle you criticise OP's post from, the reality is: some of the women's liberation policies are reasons many developed countries have low birth rates. It is a catch-22 situation. The more educated a woman is, the fewer children she bears. For these developed countries, they are caught between reversing the birth rates (many have tried unsuccessfully) and accepting immigrants in large numbers (mainly black Africans and Arabs). I do agree that men have to offer more than just money in society, ditto women (more than sex and procreation). For instance, should Nigeria be as rich as Malaysia, wahlai! Many Nigerian women will not marry Nigerian men, I am sure of that.

In the developed world, marriage rates ditto birth rates are down and fast declining, so while women's liberation was and is good, there are societal consequences to contend with. So, it is a real issue.

Taxes are different to bills. The UK is taxed to death. In the UK, the more you earn the more they take back from you
The same applies everywhere. There's no country where the higher you earn as a salary earner, the lower your taxes. Even in tax havens, high earners (salary earners) pay the highest tax band. The problem in the UK as most of Europe is limited economic opportunities due to over-regulatory policies, feeding bottle mentality by the native citizens and an aging population. Even the aging population which is ubiquitous in Japan and South Korea, I'm willing to bet there are more economic opportunities in both countries compared to most parts of Europe because they've a fast growing South East Asia nearby and a huge consumer nation in China. Isn't that why European leaders are always in Asia due to economic and trade deals? Europe has limited economic opportunities and very high taxes. In California where taxes are similar to European levels, residents on average out-earn their European counterparts because of the dynamic US economy.

Across the world, only Australia, Singapore and Switzerland come close to the US in terms of salaries but none come close in terms of how dynamic, diversified and huge the American economy is. The issue isn't high taxes, but economic opportunities to earn more money. That's a European problem which isn't peculiar to the UK. Like a reddit comment said, give me more money and economic opportunities, I will sort out the taxes later. Where Europeans wan see high salaries?

This why our nigerian counterparts in the states have more purchasing power and take home pay. Taxes are not so much a thing on it's citizens. Instead corporations bear the brunt of taxes. This is why you guys find them to be less 'stingy' than UK peeps.
Actually, companies have more ways to avoid paying taxes in the US than in Europe. It's easier to avoid paying taxes in the US. The difference is that American companies have more economic opportunities and a consumer market that in my opinion spends more than Europeans. As a result, they pay high salaries and can hire and fire at ease. Such isn't the same in Europe. People are taxed very high in most US states especially Democrat governed, but they've a dynamic economy that churns out jobs yanfu-yanfu and can easily move to states with low taxes where English is the lingua franca. How many Brits can easily move to Switzerland today to work? Even Italians find it difficult sef.

Modafvker,

You should be ashamed of yourself since you refuse to look at the root ssues which made people flee. You think if Nigeria was relatively OK as it was during Jonathan's administration, people would sell off their assets? You think those who returned enmass from the abroad during GEJ administration didn't know why they return? People only went to the UK to study and return to Nigeria. Companies, I recall Access Bank then, was going to the UK to organise aptitude tests for Nigerian students in the UK to employ them immediately they're done and return to Nigeria. Which Nigerian company in the last four years has done the same? I recall then job ads brekete for front page. I was looking forward to them. Recently, I checked Linkedin jobs portal on Nigeria and compared to Singapore. My goodness! There were more triple the number of jobs on the Singaporean portal than Nigerian. Singapore has less than six million people o!

You people want to shy away from the root issue and I won't allow it. I detest hypocrites. You modafvker will do anything to swallow Tinubu's cum yet lament things are hard in Nigeria. How come people, even in their Mid-40s, are fleeing Nigeria if things were relatively OK in Nigeria? Why didn't they flee when Jonathan or Obasanjo was the president? If the country's politics are relatively OK, people don't flee enmass but ignorant and mendacious modafvkers think otherwise.

So, because someone stays in a gated estate tucked in Lekki which has no pedestrian walkway yet almost hundred people were brutally butchered in Benue, I should look away? You should be terribly ashamed of yourself! Tomorrow, you will head to church or slam your kon-kon head five times thinking you will enter heaven with such a mentality. Ta! That is the thing people should understand. Their definitions of abroad should fit what they desire and wish for. To be fair to the women, it's not a good deal to carry both the financial burden of the home, and also her own biological burden that can't be transferred to the man (eg pregnancy, breastfeeding, child care, etc)

And in most cases, when a woman assumes her biological duty (eg being pregnant), then her earning stops, and a man that earns equally or higher will sustain the lifestyle that she is used to.

Yahoo boys and lots of touts have money, but these women will pass them. It's not just money. It takes more. Anyways, see it from a woman's perspective. These things are not black and white.
I am curious to read OP's reply to this post. While OP made sense, this is a good rebuttal. OP's write-up is commonplace in most developed countries if not all. In Nordic countries, even with all the equality policies, women aim for high-earning men. The same applies in Singapore, Japan etc. High earning women wait out for high-earning men and sometimes have to bend their domineering rules in a bid to be married as you cannot do yanga to a high-earning man. In the US, high earning women have resorted to lesbianism or single mothers via sperm donors or remain single. Nature and biology are brutal, I must say.

Most registered company don’t pay tax here, except for the big companies.

And nobody will hold you if you don’t declare your company tax return here.

In the UK, even if you don’t make a dime from the company in a year, you still have to declare tax return. Other you get penalties that’d warrant you to pay fines.

In Nigeria, I’ve never seen self employed people declaring tax returns. Over there, in so far you’re not working in a company where tax is being deducted, you have to declare your tax return year in year out, otherwise, you pay fines.

You only are exempted from paying tax if you’re making anything less that £12k in a year. And £12k cannot even be enough for the bills you’d pay through the year.

I repeat, we don’t pay tax at all here if you know how the tax system works in the UK.
Good. Just don't expect a functioning society, and keep dwelling in the world's poverty capital.

Fair game.

I met a very beautiful lady not to long ago. Our friendship is purely platonic (I haven't seen and don't have any intention of seeing and beyond her underwear). I find her attractive physically but have no feelings whatsoever (just to clear the reader). She always says she doesn't want kids. I'm thinking it's because she schooled abroad and their non-culture lifestyle there has entered her head.
OK, since she schooled abroad. I would be wary if it was a woman born and bred in Nigeria that said so. Few children, I can understand. Does not children? E get as be. Some probing needs to be done.

I was forced to ask if she had reproductive issues. She said no. Which African doesn't want kids? Can there be true happiness in a marital union without children?
As I said, I am sure some Africans who don't want children but have to keep their mouths shut or procreate because of society's demands. Yes, true happiness can be found in a marriage without children. Although having children is one of the reasons humans marry, it is not the sole criterion for happiness in a marriage. There is more to marriage than having children. The children no go grow old? Won't they leave to seek a living in other places? Like now, many Nigerian parents stay alone as their children don japa finish.

Can you marry or date such a person who is very clear on not wanting offspring?
For me, the jury is still out. I am not a fan of plenty children, but depending on events, I can be OK with having no offspring.

Well, that is there. I have been here and do not know what a gun looks like. The last time I saw a gun was in Nigeria. I have never seen a knife in public sef. Yes, the world is a ghetto but some are more ghettoier than others. Because some places in Toronto have crimes does not make cities in the DRC less ghetto.

you don't have to be caged in your home forever. You move around when it's not rush hour seeing as you don't have to work. And there is no fear if as you said you hAd the hypothetical 100 million. Lots of safe places you can buy for that amount. As for middle class areas in Athens ? I don't know because I have never been but I can emphatically tell you that those Lekki estates are better than council houses in London and projects in America. Those estates would be upper middle class in America and UK. In fAct if you go to the west end of London in posh places like South Kensington you would think you are in Lekki estates. Why don't they make a lot of Lekki ? Same reason they cannot make a lots of west hampstead in London. Too expensive. As for many have left and won't be coming back ? When dem hit 60 years old and are thrown in nursing home and a white nurse slaps you a few times while changing your diaper dem no go teach you the direction of ya papa house lmaoooo. As for your son ? Wait make e reach 60 na. Time flies fast lmaoo
Another mumbo-jumbo.

If that is the case, there would have been droves of people returning to Nigeria permanently. But that is not the case. Economics trumps psychology when it comes to migration. Someone who has been used to a very safe life would do everything to avoid returning to a place where going to Place gets him/her murdered for no reason whatsoever. The problem with you people is that you believe Nigeria is the only black-dominated place where people can retire to in a bid to achieve peace of mind.

If children from black parents and even half-Japanese are not returning to Nigeria/other African countries, why would those in developed countries with substantial black populations do so? I have met biracials and was told they are not interested in moving to Africa. These people prefer here even though they are few blacks. Why? Economics. They get good jobs easily, the society is safe, the passport is strong and provides mobility etc. If they want to move, they head to the US because of the diversity and greater economic opportunities.

Even on Twitter, when a black lady was lamenting the racism in the UK and asked for places where she would experience less racism, none of the black commenters mentioned a country in sub-Saharan Africa. Only white rednecks did in a bid to mock black people for refusing to move to the dominant black society. So, if bIracials in East Asia are not interested in moving to Africa, why should black folks in the west do?

I understand the feeling of being amongst people who look like you, but humans protect their economic interests over their rights when push comes to shove. Humans will do anything to ensure the economics is stable before considering other issues. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs says it all. As for black folks who will want to move to places where the inhabitants look like us, Barbados, Bahamas and Namibia dey. But even then, how many black folks across the rich world aka white man's countries are moving there? A very minute number because those places are not economically viable even though they are safe places. Mainland Chinese who are tired of the Chinese government are moving to Japan, South Korea and Singapore because of cultural affinity and, most importantly, because those countries can provide similar economic opportunities for them. Unless sub-Saharan African countries become rich, don't expect black folks in developed countries to move there.

You should ask Wale Edun for some basic economic classes as you need one.
