FamilyRe: Catch Your Daughter In Prostitution? by GEW(op): 1:05pm On Aug 06, 2009
Gabry:
truth be told. . . I actually could accept prostitution but does not mean Im with them. It all depends on individual. My friend is a prostitute cause she loves having sex with different types of man and get money for that. She hates having sex with the same man and dont get money out of him and it frustrates her and bores her. So for her case I let her be and if my daughter feels the same way, Ill let her be!

But of course I will just tell her about AIDS and HIV and all those sickness that comes her way and to be careful; and stuff like that.

But if she's doing i for money and nothing else and she dont have passion for it at all, than discussion comes into place.
i am shocked.

FamilyMarriage Is Not A Dictatorship by GEW(op): 12:46pm On Aug 06, 2009
Marriage Is Not a Dictatorship
Wednesday, 05 August 2009 12:00 AM EDT J. Lee Grady SpiritLed Woman - SpiritLed Woman

As a Bible-believing Christian, Mike* was the spiritual leader of his home. He believed that in order to be a faithful man of God he must always "be in charge." His wife, Jill*, and their four children graciously submitted to his authority.

Mike insisted on controlling every aspect of home life. Jill was not allowed to handle any aspect of the family finances.

Jill felt God wouldn't be pleased if she didn't respect Mike's headship, so she eventually became numb to her husband's demands. Mike was never physically abusive, but his constant criticism made Jill feel like a worthless spiritual zombie.

It all erupted one day when their 5-year-old son, Tyler*, got the flu. Usually Mike and Jill tried natural remedies before seeing a doctor, but in this instance Tyler didn't seem to be responding to the natural products. After he'd had a high fever for several days, Jill took the boy to the doctor, who told her Tyler had a respiratory infection that required antibiotics.

Jill had a prescription filled and intended to give a dose to Tyler immediately. But when Mike learned about the doctor's report, he told Jill not to give Tyler the medicine.

No matter how much Jill pleaded, he refused—saying that the antibiotics might have negative side effects. Jill was so concerned for her son's safety that she threatened to give the medicine to Tyler anyway. Mike then shot back: "I am the head of this house! You have to do what I say!"

Jill felt she'd been pushed into a corner by her husband's ironclad demands. Finally she placed the matter in God's hands.

The next morning Tyler was so sick he couldn't get up to the table to eat. Jill was desperate and dared to express her concerns. "Is it right to withhold something from him that you know will alleviate his symptoms and help him get well?" she asked.

Mike finally gave in. Within 24 hours Tyler had improved, and in only a few days he was well.

Mike and Jill, meanwhile, were nursing the wounds that had resulted from this quarrel. Mike's pride was hurt because he felt his leadership had been challenged.

Jill felt exhausted from having to push so hard to help her son. Their marriage was frayed in the process—and they eventually had to seek counseling.

These kinds of disagreements occur in Christian homes every day. In many cases, husbands and wives who argue over an issue agree to sit down, listen to each other, try to understand the other spouse's perspective and then decide on a resolution. That's the way conflict management is supposed to work.

But domestic strife can't be resolved if the husband believes: (1) that he is always right; (2) that it is wrong for him to defer to his wife; or (3) that his masculinity is weakened if he admits a mistake. If he believes all three of these fallacies, he qualifies as a first-degree tyrant.

Patriarchs Don't Live Here Anymore

When I preach about gender equality in the church, many women come to me and say, "But I have been taught that my husband is the priest of the home." I challenge them to look up that phrase in the Bible. Show me one scripture that says husbands should serve as priests for their wives!

Many Christian traditionalists maintain that women should live in the background and allow their husbands to represent them to the church and to God. They also teach that the husband is responsible for the wife's behavior, as if she were some kind of puppet on a string whom he must manipulate.

They have the audacity to use this unbiblical concept of the priestly husband to justify abusive, authoritarian behavior. This is emotionally crippling to women—and it is heresy!

The Bible tells us that under the old covenant, before the redemptive work of Christ and the advent of the Holy Spirit, God dealt with men through priests. But now that Jesus has secured our access into the presence of God, we all have been qualified to be priests unto God.

Peter says we are part of a "royal priesthood" (1 Pet. 2:9, NKJV). He does not say that this priesthood is exclusively male or that it refers to husbands. There is no reference to gender because "there is neither male nor female, in Christ" (Gal. 3:28).

Women have been clothed with the priestly garments of holiness, and they have been commissioned to exercise His authority. No husband has the biblical right to stand in his wife's way, and no wife should use "male headship" to excuse herself from fulfilling God's call on her life.

"Headship" is another popular word thrown around in conservative religious circles. Many Christian men believe their spirituality is measured by the level of control they exert over their wives through "male headship."

These guys think they are being "real men of God" if they refuse to listen to their wives' counsel. Where did we get the idea that an authoritarian style of leadership is even remotely Christlike?

The rigid view of the Christian family says that men have been placed in the God-ordained role of full-time boss. The husband's role, according to the conservative religious model, is to lead and protect his wife, while her role is to trust him and submit to his authority at all times without question. Since he is supposedly smarter, stronger and more spiritually capable, the woman has no option but to accept this arrangement.

This view has been derived by misreading the words of Paul in Ephesians 5:23–24: "For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything."

We must remember that at the time Paul penned these words (probably A.D. 60), women had no rights and were viewed as the property of either their fathers or their husbands. In Ephesus during New Testament times, a man's idea of "ruling the family" was to keep his wife shut away in the house to do backbreaking chores, tend the family farm, provide sexual gratification and bear as many children as possible.

If she died in childbirth, he found another wife. If she didn't please him in bed, he paid a younger woman outside the home to meet his sexual needs. If his wife shamed him, he beat her.

Historian Ruth Tucker notes that in ancient Greek society, most men considered their homebound wives boring—so they typically sought the companionship of heterae, or professional Follows. Yet when Paul introduced the Christian message to the Ephesians, he came with a radically new model of family that went to the very core of what was wrong with the world: "Husbands, love your wives" (Eph. 5:25).

Perhaps we don't realize what a revolutionary concept these four words were in the first century! It was even more radical when Paul told the men of Ephesus to love their wives "as their own bodies" (v. 28).

This meant that men and women were equals. It meant that Christian men would have to break out of their pagan Middle Eastern mind-set and stop looking down on the wives as if they were brainless, inferior animals. Paul's simple words shattered gender prejudice at its core.

And when Paul told the men to love their wives "as Christ also loved the church" (v. 25), he implied something even more revolutionary: Women are just as deserving of the grace of God as men are. We find in these tender verses the bedrock foundation for the Christian idea of gender equality.

Two Kinds of Christian Husbands

Paul's words to the Ephesians blatantly contradicted the worldly philosophy of the ancient world, which taught that men and women live in two different social strata. In the kingdom of God, Paul declared, men don't beat their wives, rule their homes like despots or threaten divorce as a means to manipulate or control. In God's kingdom, husbands treat their wives with respect—yes, even as equals.

Paul was declaring in this passage that men are no longer "over" women. Husbands can no longer dominate their wives or treat them like chattel.

Now that Jesus Christ has come, the curse of male domination over females that began in the Garden of Eden has been broken. Women have been restored to a place of respect and dignity! This was good news for the women of Ephesus; it is good news for all women today.

But if this is true, then why does Paul still say the husband should function as the "head" of his wife? (See Eph. 5:23.) Does this not give him the right to dominate her? That depends on whether we want a Christian model of leadership or a worldly one.

The husband does function as a leader. But the gospel of Jesus Christ—who was the ultimate example of the compassionate "servant leader"—does not allow men to impose leadership in an authoritarian way, nor can men view their role as "head" as part of a God-sanctioned hierarchy that places them over their wives to domineer them or to deny their rights.

Ephesians 5 is not about hierarchy; it is about equality. But if we read Paul's words through a warped lens, it's easy to impose our own misconceptions about male-female relationships on the text. That's why we need the Holy Spirit to help us when we read the Scriptures.

Rebecca Merrill Groothuis, in her book, Good News for Women (Baker), explains that there are really two kinds of male headship from which to choose. One is what she calls "life-giving headship," which was instituted by God in the Garden of Eden when He took Eve out of Adam's side.

The opposing model is what she refers to as "ruling headship," which began with the fall, when man and woman came under the curse of sin. Christian men today often view ruling headship as the godly way to lead a family—but it is the wrong model.

Writes Groothuis: "The biblical headship of the husband described in Ephesians 5 is redemptive, in that it mitigates the effect of the fall which places the woman under male rule, and it helps to reinstate woman in her creational place of cultural responsibility alongside man. In life-giving headship, the social privilege and power of maleness is shared by the husband with the wife, and utilized by him according to the terms of love rather than of male conquest and demand."

Some Christian husbands have made a lifestyle out of being benevolent dictators—and they quote portions of Ephesians 5 to defend their behavior. Tragically, many women have embraced the idea of being Christian doormats, and they have made their subservience such a part of their identity as women that it has become a place of security for them that they cannot abandon.

I pray you will not let a false concept of "male headship" stop you from fulfilling your high calling in Christ.

FamilyRe: Coping With Nagging Mother-in-law by GEW(op): 11:01am On Aug 06, 2009
Outstrip:
GEW you can disagree all you want but if you do not understand the role your mother plays in your marriage then you will never be able to understand why it is your fault. Your mother is your mother and will be your mother until the day she is called to heaven. She was/is married and lived her life. Her negative opinion on your wife is acceptable only if requested. I am not saying that there are no daughter in laws that are not ready to skin their mother in laws alive but when you walk into someone else's house you simply have to respect yourself.

I will give you an example of my cousin in Nigeria. The very next day after she got married (the wine carrying) her new mother in law who by the way is a very cool lady and we love her called her first thing in the morning and was like please come and sweep the compound. You know what my cousin asked her? She said Mama who was sweeping it before I came. Go and call that person to sweep it. LOL. It is funny now of course but my cousin's mother in law has not gone there again. Now I am sure that my cousin could have swept the whole compound if she really felt like it but she did not see why her mother in law would ask her to sweep a compound that she would not ask her own daughter to sweep. Her mother in law respects her now. She does not see her as the woman living in her son's house which is the way a woman that goes to her son's house and has problems with the wife feels. I know that it helps that my cousins in laws are enlightened but everybody should know their limits. I know that her mother in law will not even go to her own husband to complain about my cousin not to talk of her son who is not ready to entertain anything negative about his wife.

I don't believe in that saying that the wife should not treat it like her house alone but also the mother's house. Well that is nonsense. It is not the mother's house. If a woman really wants to share her home with another woman she can ask her husband to marry another woman.

When my mother tells me some stories about how my grandma on my dad's side used to treat her I would not believe that it was the same Grandma that I loved so much but when my dad said it too I was like wow. It was not like my grandma was the devil but my dad was her only son and my mom is igbo so here was her only son (she had others but the died in infancy) marrying and outsider that does not understand her son's culture. So needless to say she and my dad's sister's decided to make her life hell. My dad was in England going to school and so my mother was at the mercy of my aunties and grandma in Auchi and she did not even speak the language. She endured with my older sister but she went back to enugu to be with her family to have me. After my dad graduated and moved back to Nigeria and saw first hand he did not hesitate to fix things. His sister used to sing about how ungrateful my mother was and since she was the one who paid for my dad's education my mom should do her laundry also. When that happened again when my dad was there he went got the money from the bank with interest and paid her back so she could leave his pregnant wife in peace.

The funny thing is that after my dad came back everything died down and I realize not when I think of it my mother had in easy compared to a lot of other women I know. It boggles the mind that my dad who was very close to his mother figured this out on his own in 1976 for that matter but then you have young men in 2009 that cannot figure out that they are a major role player in the relationship between the mother and wife. That is one of the things that irritates me about this whole tradition stuff. People use "our tradition" to excuse disgraceful behavior.

If you treat your wife like shit then your mother will likely treat her like shit. If your mother comes to you ever to complain about your wife's cooking, your wife's cleaning abilities, the way she raises the kids, the amount of time she spends out of the house and you sit down and listen then you are a failure and starting something that you cannot finish. I feel that a man that respects his wife will have family that will respect her unless they are all mad which is not very likely.
well i can understand your point seeing your grand ma history luckily some of us dont have that kind of mum. go read the thread on marrying women who cant cook and see my take on matters like this.

once again i repeat what i said in an earlier thread marriage is a partnership and it is everymans duty to protect his wife. however if you see a fight brewing between your mum and your wife, common sence demands that you ask your wife to calm down and let the woman who will be away in an hour or a day do her business and go away. you will never know your ma inlaw more than your husband.

i know this is a generation that likes to claim rights without looking at the broader picture and responsibilities. it is always better to live in peace with your family. i am priviledged to marry from a family who believe in unity at all cost. my ma inlaw has 6 daughter inlaws who calls her mother becos that is who she is to us all. the few years i have known her she has proved she is a Godly woman.

you talk about " starting something that you cannot finish" i say it is not good looking for troubles becos most of the battles some young women open upon their head and marriages is uncalled for. i dont want to mention names we have seen some cases here on NL blown out of all proportions with devastating consequences. most fights are not worth it my dear sister.

we all should learn to be small and very little in our own eyes. we need our mother inlaws more than we know. every marriage has its own challenges you need the good will and prayers of everyone on board for success.

All you can do is counsel the girl about the ramifications of prostitution. Keep in mind something went wrong in her upbringing that allowed her to even consider this profession. But its interesting that in a country that probably has the highest cases of Statutory Rape, which is (Adults having sex with minors) no one wants it to be their own daughter or sister prostituting. I have news for you as long as there is the demand for prostitutes especially young college girls this business will continue to prosper and SURPRISE!! …, It might be your daughter or sister.

Father's surprise: call-girl daughter
Eilat
The man cut short his visit to Eilat
An Israeli couple are preparing to divorce after the man summoned a prostitute to his hotel room only to discover she was his daughter.

The tale of family turmoil began some months ago when the father, a businessman based in the city of Haifa, was sent by his company to a course in the resort of Eilat for four days.

The Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv reports that the man took advantage of the visit to summon a call girl to his room on his first night there.

And that was when everything started to go horribly wrong.

Distraught wife

As the prostitute entered the room, the full horror for him of discovering his daughter's occupation hit him. The father began feeling chest pains which may have been a mild heart attack.

He then cut short his stay in Eilat, and on his return home told his distraught wife the truth of what had happened.

She has vowed to track down her daughter and find a more suitable job for her.

However, her forgiveness has not extended to her husband and she has made it clear she wishes to divorce him.

The court case is expected to begin soon.
sadly we have a generation that are not ashamed to eat/ spend their wives immoral earnings let alone daughters earning. we have our very own NL resident hooker giving jeep to a husband who wont ask questions. what a way to live.

She has to find some way to get away from that guy, she should try and avoid 'mutual' friends unless they have proven their loyalty to her. Also, she should not compare herself to others, because that's what we do to get better. I can guarantee you if she reaches a place where she can talk to God and open up about it, she will stop thinking she is a bad person and a slut, and she will accept the fact that it was a mistake she made and that she is just human, accepting this obvious fact is difficult for many Christians but it is not accepting this fact that places a barrier between them and God. When they slip up and sin, which is bound to happen, they feel guilty and feel unworthy and emotionally distance themselves from God.

Everyone messes up, but instead of pointing at others to make ourselves feel better we should try to be confident in ourselves, without having to put others down.

She needs time to move on about it, what the ex did was pathetic and very immature he will regret that in future.

The sectarian violence that broke out simultaneously in five northern states last week was initially conceived to be an all-out Jihad (holy war), aimed at entrenching the values for which the Boko Haram Islamist sect stood.

A top security source told Daily Sun in Abuja on Tuesday that the group had already established operational bases in seven states, even as he questioned the decision of Governor Ali Modu Sheriff not to act on security reports sent to him two clear days before the mayhem was unleashed.

The source, who pleaded not to be named, said ‘well-meaning Nigerians’ had been sponsoring Mohammed Yusuf in his clandestine assignment, including a wealthy Kano businessman, whose arrest by security services for sponsoring the sect, was quashed by the law court in 2005. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had, on Monday, accused the Borno State Government of complicity in the crisis.

Another dangerous group with the same doctrine as Boko Haram is said to have been operating unfettered in Niger State.

According to the source, on July 14 and 17, more than 10 days before the group began its onslaught in Bauchi on July 26, 21 security reports had been sent to the Federal Government, detailing the activities of Yusuf and his men whose “threat had become potent, and we knew it was going to explode.”
While Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, was able to take proactive action based on the report, the source regretted that Sheriff did nothing until the group fully mobilized and went on a killing spree in his state. “If the Borno State governor had been proactive as the Bauchi governor was, this thing wouldn’t have happened,” he said.

Insisting that the group had been preparing for a Jihad, the source said it became the only feasible option when the plan of its members to go on mass exile to either Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia failed.
The option of exile was said to have been aborted because immigration arrangement did not favour them, hence they settled for the Jihad option.

Daily Sun further learnt that it was when the group settled for Jihad that they started making their own bombs. The operational bases were sited in Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Yobe states.

According to the security source, Yusuf was re-arrested in the premises of an Abuja court by SSS operatives last November 13. He was subsequently handed over to the police after a thorough interrogation had yielded substantial evidence against him.

He was subsequently charged to the court by police, only for the SSS to learn on January 20, 2009 that he had been released, a development that was said to have surprised the top echelon of the service. However, the SSS was said to have maintained a close tab on Yusuf and kept updating its dossier on his group.
At the state level, the source explained, each movement made by the group was reported to the governor “because we believe that governors are supposed to know the security problems in their states.” At the federal level, relevant persons were briefed.

Even before the group struck the other weekend, the source said the SSS had information that it was ready to strike from their base in Dutse-Tanshi in Bauchi State. When security operatives stormed the place, nine members of the group were arrested while items used in local production of bombs were recovered.
Noting that the gang leader, Yusuf always managed to be absent from the scene of confrontation between his people and security personnel, but two two hours after the Dutse-Tanshi depot had been over-run by security operatives, he was said to have arrived.

Blaming porous borders for the ease with which arms were smuggled into the country, the source noted that SSS had intercepted information about the deal between the Kano businessman and Yusuf and regretted that the man won his case when he sued the service for unlawful breach of his freedom. It was also learnt that some members of the group had already been sponsored for scholarship in Mauritania.

According to the source, the group which metamorphosed into Boko Haram was stared in 1995 with the name Shahaba, by one Abubakar Lawan, who later relinquished the leadership to clerics when he got admission to study at the University of Medina in Saudi Arabia.

When the clerics needed an articulate knowledgeable person to lead the group, the lot fell on Yusuf, who later turned to accuse the clerics of not properly interpreting the teachings of the Quran. From there the doctrine changed.

Besides the N540,000 the slain sect leader was said to have got on monthly basis from the N1 due paid by members, he was said to have acquired an 80 km expanse of land in Maiduguri for farming to supplement his earning.

Worried that such a dangerous person could be allocated such expanse of land, SSS was said to have asked the state governor to take the wind off his sail by confiscating the land, but the advice was not heeded. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2009/aug/05/national-05-08-2009-01.htm

Boko Haram cover-up: CAN indicts Sheriff

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Monday accused Governor Ali Modu Sheriff of complicity in the emergence of the fundamentalist Islamist group that unleashed violence across five northern states last week. The association also alleged a cover-up by the Borno State Government in the manner the sect leader, Mohammed Yusuf, was hurriedly killed in police custody.

CAN alleged that Alhaji Buji Fai, Sheriff’s former commissioner for Religious Affairs, who was said to be a key financier of the Boko Haram sect was the link between the group and the administration, and wondered why the man was immediately taken to the Government House by security forces upon his arrest, only to be given a summary execution moments later.

“The real sponsors are in the Government House, Maiduguri ,” Elder Samuel Salifu, CAN’s national secretary, told journalists in Abuja. He said the motive behind the hurried killing of both Yusuf and Fai was to silence them before they could spill the beans on who the actual backers of the mayhem were.

“Why were the sect leader, Mohammed Yusuf and the ex-commissioner in Sheriff’s government, Alhaji Buji Fai, who was reported to have been taken to Government House silenced so quickly? We sense a cover-up by the Borno State Government,” Salifu said.

However, CAN said it was convinced that the last was yet to be heard of what it described as an unfolding drama, adding that the Sheriff administration had some explanations to make on the relationship between the government and the sect. “Let Sheriff tell us what is happening, it is important. There are so many things, and I am sure facts will begin to come out,” Salifu said.

Although CAN said the perpetrators of the mayhem in which hundreds of lives were lost should not have lived after wreaking untold havoc to innocent citizens, it said the motive behind their summary execution was suspect and was meant to prevent security agencies from getting to the roots of the matter.

Questioning why Boko Haram was allowed to establish its headquarters in the Borno State capital despite knowledge of its criminal motives, Salifu asked: “Who were the people in government who sheltered Boko Haram sect from being treated as criminal gang based on security reports? Is the Borno State Government under the leadership of Ali Modu Sheriff which has a penchant for pretentious religious public display telling the world that for two years - while the Boko Haram sect fertilized, watered, germinated, matured and started bearing fruits – that it was ignorant?”

Accusing the northern governors of complicity in the violence, which claimed the lives of three pastors in Maiduguri alone, the CAN general secretary said: “The North should be ashamed for the incessant outbreaks of religious violence year after year.”

Wondering why the group was left to operate undisturbed, even when it had been designated as security risk in the nation’s security circles, CAN said although the conflict was not between Christians and Muslims, the burning of churches and killing and maiming of Christians in Maiduguri evidenced what the sect had in store for Christians.

“We have no doubts in our minds that they would have perceived Christianity as a Western religion, which to them is also Haram (sin), which also must be eradicated,” the association said.
Indicting the security apparatus for treating the group with kid gloves, CAN noted that it only took the attack on law enforcement agencies for the government to act despite obvious and previous security reports on the threat that the sect posed to the nation as a whole.

“It appears that some people in government, who should have acted, paid deaf ears to this security threat purely out of complicity, incompetence or sympathy for the fundamental objectives of the Boko Haram sect…It was only when government felt its own security threatened that it acted,” Salifu said.
According to him, questions as to why the group was being preserved; how it acquired arms without security notice or government intervention; its sponsors; how it established a headquarters in Maiduguri for at least two years and became a law unto themselves, as well as how criminality has become synonymous with freedom of worship remain posers for the government.

“Christians are apprehensive that there is more to it than what is manifest about Boko Haram sect crisis. We need to be reassured that the federal and state governments, where the sect had taken root, were not part of the Boko Haram scheme,” said the CAN general secretary.

The implication of the various crises, CAN said, was that its members had lost confidence in the ability of government to provide security for lives and property, adding that if government continued the way it had been going, the association would have to give conditions for the co-existence of the various groups in the country.

Reacting to the CAN allegation, Borno State Director of Press, Usman Ciroma,, said it was preposterous and laughable that the tragedy, which befalls the state, could be trivialised in that manner.
Ciroma told Daily Sun that only on Sunday, the CAN leader in the state, Archbishop Pana Mani, wrote a letter to Governor Sheriff commending him over the way the Haram Boko crisis was handled.
The Borno State Government spokesman wondered whether allegations by CAN in Abuja were not just armchair criticism.

He queried: “Which politician would be suicidal to set a group to kill his own people?”
Ciroma urged the CAN leadership not to spark another round of crisis with its allegations, which according to the government spokesman, were not only preposterous but a cruel irony. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2009/aug/04/national-04-08-2009-01.htm
