After the road wahala, or aside the road wahala, why was the mosque, house of the sheikh and cemetery attacked? Revenge or planned?

Please watch this and tell me if all this was mere coincidence:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysGoWg0oxU4
That is exactly why I called the shameless act unjustifiable and diabolic (I am even tempted to call it a terrorist act). Their is absolutely no justification for going back to rain bullets on civilian. Infact I said on another thread that it may have been better if the army forced their way through during the initial road block. For me, it looked like a planned work. I don't recollect the army in recent times recording themselves begging "bloody civilians" (especially while on the course of their duties). Just imagine the Nigerian army picking out the video recorder and capturing on tape a high ranking officer begging civilians without any specific motive in mind. I don't recollect that it ever happened. But we have even heard of journalists beaten and their equipment destroyed because they dare to capture them on camera. The only conclusion for me (for now at least) is that it was all planned so the video can be used as evidence.
But I believe we all need to take the lesson here - appoint a few men/women as marshals when going on procession to direct traffics so we don't deny other road users their rights to the roads.
PoliticsRe: Shi'a Islam And The Shia Islamic Movement Of Zakzaky Will Continue to Grow by gists:
For the records, I am a muslim (though not a shia nor sunni).
While I agree with you that the shia movement (just like other sects and religions) will not die no matter the intimidation, I also believe people should know where their limits lie.
I strongly believe EVERY religion and sect have EVERY right to go about their practice as long as it is peaceful and does not infringe on the rights of others. But no religion or sect is bigger than the country. From what we were told (and what we watched), it will do you a whole lot of good to talk to yourselves that blocking the road without police permit is not only illegal but just plain disrespectful to constituted authority - especially when the security agents are involved as in this recent case. The fact that politicians and other faiths do it does not make it legal.
All the tragic deaths could have been easily avoided if those people had "road marshals" and clear the road for the army to pass - by my estimation, it wouldn't have taken more than 30seconds for the army convoy to pass!
On many occasions, scholars have reported that the prophet (SAW) used to pick and dispose objects that can cause injury on the road thus making the roads free and safe for people. The least we can do today is not be the cause of discomfort on other road users - let alone national security men going about their national duties.

BUT I have also criticized the army on several occasions as their is absolutely no justification for their barbaric diabolical acts and whoever gave that order should be taught that human lives are sacred.

OP don't mind the dullards jare. When the last administration was busy pooing everywhere they didn't realize it will smell when its time to clean. It is fo0lishness to expect a seed to germinate without decaying first. Where were these people when madam Ngozi slashed the budget of the ministry of works to 11% (from the N100b to N11b). Other ministries also suffered similar fate. They didn't know it wil have a snowball effect on the economy. Now they are blaming it on the new administration. Here are just a few reminders when madam NOI and her drunken master asked us to tighten our belt for the austerity measure they slammed on us.

With just N11 billion approved by Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Finance as the 2015 budget proposal the Federal Ministry of Works, Nigerians must not expect the Federal Government to embark on major infrastructures in the year 2015 if the budget is so passed.

The Ministry of Works had made a proposal of N100 billion as its budget for the year, but this was brought down to N11 billion or 19 percent by the Finance Ministry headed by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

With this, only 33 road projects have provisions in the proposal out of a total number of 210 ongoing road projects.

To actually paint the picture more clearly, as at early December 2014, the naira value was at N155 to $1. But as at May 29th, the value stood at N220 to $1; that was a crash of N65 within 6 months even though global oil prices was still at $65/barrel as at May 2015.

On the flip side, since May 29th till date, the value of the naira is about N280 to $1; that is a crash of N60 in 7 months and may I state here that crude presently sells for $35/barrel.

So when I examine the claims of GEJ supporters who want to politicise this by claiming that GEJ and his NOI headed economic team managed the situation better, I just shake my head in disgust at the dullness of these set of people.
They are just a bunch of low-lives with magnifying lenses looking faults everywhere.
For the first time in a long while, capital expenditure is taking a huge 30% of the total budget which the last admin "graciously" put at 9% (which was not even implemented.) I recall NOI reducing the budget of ministry of works to N9B (out of the requested N100B) yet these low lives blame the job losses in construction industry on PMB.

Since I was born in this Nigeria I know of only 4 religious holidays - Christmas, Easter , Eid el Kabir and Eid el Malaud.

Just today Buhari has added another religious holiday by declaring December, 28 a public holiday.

According to Buhari we will observe mohammed's birthday for the first time in the history of Nigeria. The Federal govt has declared December 28 as a public holiday to celebrate mohammed's birthday.

Waiting for them to declare Friday a work free day and Sunday the beginning of the work week. They can also replace our Gregorian calender with that of the Islamic calender and take us to 1426 since we are heading to the stone ages.

While I am not making excuses for this government, I sometimes wonder where were these people when the country's currency had a horrible slide during the last administration inpsite of huge proceeds from crude oil sales. It is very mischievous to say the present administration took over and the Naira begins its free fall conveniently leaving out the historical free fall even when we made huge sales from crude. As I recall and you can see from the attached historical chat, GEJ admin met the naira at less than N150/$ but left it at over N200/$ (thank God the CBN gov implemented some measures that has clipped the official price to less than N200 earlier this year).

However, this is not to say that the present admin doesn't have work to do. But I still give the PMB admin 65% approval rating on the performance so far considering the prevailing conditions.

*Muslims caught celebrating are threatened with up to five years in prison

deking:
@gists I don't know what you are driving at but just a few points.

1. The NA have a standing mandate to deal decisively with anyone perceived to be an enemy of the state both internally and externally especially people who take up arms. It would be fool hardy for soldiers to run into an armed robbery scene and claim that it is the job of policemen to deal with that leaving the citizens at the mercy of the robbers until policemen arrive. Ofcourse, this will be termed an internal aggression and dealt with decisively.

2. The NA stretched out the olive branch twice by choosing to dialogue with the sect members first at the roadblock and later when then went to effect some arrests at the sect leader's home.

3. What would have happened to ordinary citizens at the road block mounted by the sect members? The would have been denied access to that road because some people stronger than them were on a religious procession and were not willing to allow any other person access.

In all let's not forget the foundation of freedom - "Your right to stretch your hand freely ends where my right to defend my nose starts "
None of your point address our issue.
I am not interested in repeating myself since it looks like you're not paying attention. By the way, the robbery example does not apply in this case especially when I said the army could have been pardoned if they forced their way though - i.e acting instantly like in arm robbery case.

The int'l community have condemn the action, civil right groups have commented, CAN has paid solidarity visit to Zakzaky (which I think is absolutely unnecessary), the Nigerian Senate and HOR have just summon Burutai to come explain. If you think they are all wrong and disturbing the army from doing their work of clearing threats (both internal and external as you said) then there is not much to discuss.

But bear in mind - when a man comes to your house to steal your property and you pick a gun and shoot him. You may be pardon on the ground of self defense and provocation. But when you let the man escape and you later go and shoot him in his house on the ground that he came to your house to steal, then you will certainly be guilty of murder or at least manslaughter. But if you report to police and the man is arrested and tried, he may be put to death and you still walk like a freeman.

The army probably should have "charged" through at the point of blockade/provocation and all these dust will not have been raised because the shias are not bigger than Nigeria. But since they didn't do that, I expect the COAS to call the IG and ask the police to go and fetch whoever it is they want to arrest. But they went back and kill them in their dozens - that is not acceptable in any civilized country.

Nobody is supporting the shias (in fact they have been condemned by myself and many others), but let us also learn the right time to praise and when to rebuke the army!
PoliticsRe: New Video Emgerges Of The Nigeria Army Attack On The Hussainiyyah (Shia Mosque) by gists: 8:31am On Dec 21, 2015
deking:
The mistake many analyst are making is that the situation was not a civil disturbance. In NA's judgement it was declaration of WAR against the Nigerian state.

If the COAS had turned back as most of you postulated, the headlines would have read "COAS flees from Boko Haram". This wouldn't have been healthy for a man who has a December deadline to clear off Boko Haram. This would definitely have emboldened the boko haram and other sects.

Someone posted the rules of engagement and even the US military would have forcefully charged their way through if confronted with that sort of challenge. The last of the matter could have been heard at the roadblock as because of the casualties involved the COAS would definitely want to give stern warning to the Sect leader. Reports have it that in the course of this dialog a soldier was killed at the sect leader's house. This is a crime against the state and obviously no commandant would tolerate this.

I would advise all to balance the reports and pick out the truth. We must not allow any group or individual gain superiority over the NA.
You missed the point completely or you are just being mischievous.
Nobody asked the COAS to turn back. The shias are not bigger than Nigeria. I have said it before, while they have the right to go on peaceful procession, they have absolutely no right to block the road - let alone to block the road on government official (and to make matters worse, the COAS).
In fact, in hindsight, it probably have been better if the army CHARGE through the "blockade" like you said at the time the shias were displaying their madness. But for the army to go back and kill them in their base at a later time in the name of arresting a civilian in time of peace (Kaduna is not under emergency rule) is what most of us are criticizing.
I personally think the Zakzakky guys should have been arrested looooong ago, may be this their fo0lish act would not have happened.
Point of correction - it is not the army that declares war - it is the Commander in Chief (PMB in this case). The army don't just start a war just at their pleasure.

those examples you are citing are what makes everything about what happened in zaria wrong and condemned. nobody wants Nigeria to be in a state of war like Iraq or Nicaragua in the 80s.
Thank you jare. Don't mind the guy. We have a case of civilians being murdered because soldiers were asked to make arrests and he is trying to defend it. Tomorrow when soldiers come to effect arrest because of some domestic disturbance in his area, and he or any of his loved ones fall victim, he will be the first to join Kanu and call Nigeria a z**
No body is defending the shias. I have condemned their action just as every sane person should do. But in as much as I support the army in their fight against terror, it will be diabolical to absolve the army from this madness.
I asked for examples of where soldiers have been drafted to make arrest of civilian in peace time and all he could give is Saddam arrested by foreign troops during gulf war and Mexican Noriega again arrested by US troops.

Who arrested Saddam? The police?

The Nigerian Police Force is not hardy and equipped enough to affect the arrest of a leader of a religious sect. #Fact
And you couldn't find any credible examples of where soldiers carried out an arrest of a civilian but you had to give instances of arrest made by int'l foreign troops during war. Bros before you also give Laurent Gbagbo of Cote D'ivoire as another example, bear in mind that we talking about ordinary everyday civilians not a political leader causing unrest and destabilizing the country like in the two in your examples.

This is just plain WRONG!!
But truth be told the shia guys brought this on themselves.
It is bad enough to block the road, it is worse to block it on government official (let alone military) but it is suicidal to block it on the COAS.
It would not have taken more than 30secs if they were wise enough to just let the army convoy pass and continue their procession.

BUT, their crime did not in any way call for capital punishment!! It looks like the army just gave them enough rope to hang themselves by capturing on video the army begging the shias. Why on earth did the army had to go back to unleash hell on them? I heard they were to effect some arrest - but if that is true is it the job of the army to effect arrests? What happened to police/sss/dss of this world?
I think whoever sanctioned this was just waiting for the opportunity and he should be made to face the law.

And what is the business of Iran and Saudi in this case? Make dem just face front abeg.

The soldiers are supposed to be battle ready and always ready to defend Nigeria territory.

No one know exactly how this started. But believe me, this soldiers would have firstly approached them even before tbis video was shot. Remember the pictures Ibnsultan released. The Army chief was with the protesting youth pleading for pass. The picture reveal some pleas were made and the protesters rejected the plea. This rises to soldiers forming wall. A look at the beginning of the video shows that the soldiers formed a wall protecting their convoy. This video is indeed showing second attempt by the soldiers to plea to the protesters.

The soldiers have done their best and are nowhere to be blame here. This protesters had on them weapons and are ready to attack. Think about it. If these gallant men were posted to defend you, will you be happy if some miscreants block your way and threatened you with stick, clubs, bow and arrow while your soldiers watch without doing anything. These nuisance even have cutlass with them. This is enough threat signal and enough reason for attack. The best form of defence is attack. I think they did a great job there
That is not an excuse for the soldier to shoot unarmed civilians!!
