TRANSNATIONAL CRIME: POLICE EXTRADITES NIGERIAN FUGITIVE FOR MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR FRAUD


The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL NCB Abuja, has successfully extradited a Nigerian fugitive, Abubakar Aboki Muhammed, from the United Arab Emirates on Friday, 23rd May 2025. Muhammed, a male suspect, was subject to an INTERPOL Red Notice issued by NCB Abuja following an extensive investigation into a case of Obtaining Money by False Pretence, Forgery, and Money Laundering, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

The case originates from a report filed in July 2023 by an Abuja-based international businessman, who was defrauded by Muhammed under the guise of been a shipping agent. Investigations revealed that Muhammed misrepresented himself to the complainant, securing a contract to facilitate payments and freight of ten high-end vehicles, valued at $307,500.00, from the UAE to Nigeria via designated registered shipping companies. After establishing trust, Muhammed fraudulently received the full payment through a third-party account at FCMB belonging to Anas Usaini, a Kano resident, which was subsequently used for money laundering activities in Dubai.

Upon receipt of the payment, Muhammed provided the complainant with a forged bill of lading for the vehicles and subsequently became uncontactable. He was apprehended in Dubai on April 15, 2025, and has been extradited to Nigeria to face prosecution at the Federal High Court, marking a significant success in the ongoing fight against transnational financial crime.

The Nigeria Police Force, under the steadfast leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, recognises the invaluable assistance of the Dubai Police, INTERPOL NCB Abu Dhabi, and the Nigerian Consulate General in Dubai in facilitating the extradition of Abubakar Aboki Muhammed, and extends its sincere gratitude. The NPF will continue to collaborate with international law enforcement agencies to pursue and bring to justice individuals who seek to exploit and defraud citizens through cross-border criminal activities.

According to the statement, "She affirmed that the programme, which officially began on March 8, 2024, will continue to deliver critical food assistance to women, persons with disabilities, and marginalised communities across the country."

"The First Lady, who was represented by the Wife of the Vice President and Vice Chairman of RHI, Hajiya Nana Shettima, stated this at an RHI held on Friday at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State, where she oversaw the handover of food supplies to Abia State’s RHI Coordinator, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the Wife of the State Governor."

She said, “As I hand over these essential food commodities to Abia State and the RHI State Coordinator, I urge the beneficiaries to use these items for the well-being of their families. We at RHI are implementing several impactful interventions that are touching lives across the nation, and we are pleased that our efforts are yielding positive outcomes.”

"Since its launch, the Food Outreach Scheme has reached eleven states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), including Benue, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Oyo."

"The initiative is scheduled to reach Enugu and Kaduna next. Funded by The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) and an anonymous donor, the programme targets one state per month for food distribution."

“Under Social Investment, RHI is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Environment to establish ‘The Environment Club' for senior secondary school students and 'The Environment Society' for students in tertiary institutions nationwide. These initiatives aim to promote environmental cleanliness and tree planting.

“Under Economic Empowerment, RHI plans to disburse grants of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦200,000) each to 250 persons with disabilities in all 36 states and the FCT to support and recapitalise their small businesses.

“In the area of Education, the ‘Flow with Confidence' programme will distribute 10,000 packs of sanitary pads—enough to last a year—to young girls, particularly those in rural communities. This initiative aims to help girls stay in school throughout their menstrual cycle,” Senator Tinubu said.

According to the First Lady, the programmes are designed to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to improve the lives of Nigerians across the country.

Senator Tinubu also commended the Wife of the Governor of Abia State for her outstanding efforts and support in ensuring the success of the RHI Food Outreach and other related programmes in the state.

Governor Alex Otti, speaking on behalf of the Abia State Government, declared his administration’s readiness to partner with organisations like RHI that aim to uplift the vulnerable. He applauded Senator Tinubu’s commitment and the tangible impacts of the RHI outreach.

Receiving the items, Mrs. Priscilla Otti highlighted the significant impact of the Food Outreach on families in the state. In a continued effort to enhance the welfare of police personnel and their families, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today, 23rd May 2025, presented the Group Life Assurance Cheques and the IGP Family Welfare Insurance Cheques to the next of kins of 1,235 fallen officers at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

Present at the event were members of the Force Management Team, Senior police officers, Insurance Industry stakeholders, and the beneficiaries of the schemes.

The Inspector-General of Police, in his address, stated that the Nigeria Police Force is built on the pillars of service, integrity and sacrifice. The Force is deeply committed to the welfare of police officers and will continually honour the legacies of the fallen officers, as no compensation can truly replace a lost life. The IGP reaffirmed the Force’s pledge to stand by the families of the fallen officers, emphasising the significance of this initiative in clearing long-standing arrears of death benefit claims dating from 2018/2019, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 insurance policies.

Through sustained efforts, the Force had successfully disbursed benefits to 7,076 beneficiaries in nine phases, amounting to Twenty Billion, One Hundred and Twenty-Three Million, Four Hundred and Twenty Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety One Naira, Seven Kobo (N20,123,420,691.7). Further demonstrating this commitment, the IGP announced the disbursement of an additional Two Billion, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Five Million, One Hundred and Eighty-One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Six Naira, Fifty-Five Kobo (N2,855,181,796.55) to 1,235 beneficiaries. This tenth phase, which was disbursed today, 23rd of May 2025, brings the total insurance benefits paid to Twenty-Two Billion, Nine Hundred and Seventy-Eight Million, Six Hundred and Two Thousand, Four Hundred and Eighty-Eight Naira, Twenty-Five Kobo (N22,978,602,488.25), benefiting 8,311 families.

The IGP equally reiterates the continual strive of the current leadership in providing succour for families of our fallen heroes and improving the welfare of serving and retired officers, while expressing sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his steadfast support to the Force. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu today investitured as Patron of the Centre for Africa Social and Economic Transformation (CASET) of the University of West of England (UWE), Bristol, United Kingdom. The investiture ceremony, attended by dignitaries from Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world, took place in the Bristol campus of the university, Trek Africa Newspaper can report.

Acclaimed for his THEMES+ Agenda, with immense focus on social inclusion, gender equality, and youth development, has led to remarkable improvements in all socioeconomic and political aspects of Nigeria's commercial nerve centre and West Africa's economic hub, Lagos, Gov. The Governor has championed education from the basic level up the ladder in Lagos State.
