Ok o! when do we start the war proper ![]() We better start serious camp training in case to avoid any attack from the south o! For me it is regrettable.I believe that this has happened and no life is more important than another. But continued treats would not force the hand of the Government to take irrational decisions like how some people keep jumping on the of sentiments driven reasons. Like Eminem would say "i just said it ,i didn't know you do it or not". Every man should be caught for his actions. The perpetrators should be caught and punished and that is my honest view.I still feel for there families.Only and Only if Buhari has a direct connection to the attacks not just campaign rethorics we all use everyday whilst in his own case he is judged specially based on sentiments While i would say an attack on any of my kinsmen in the name of revenage attack would only make my people act in same way.Because i know they never joined and never cared but such actions the southern militias treaten or may act upon may escalate the situation.I am neutral for now but if my people call upon me in such situation it will be wise to answer. Don't be fooled to think one man in partial control of a complex country like Nigeria can gurantee you rights to violate others right to live.Because i think the motivating factor is that you own the country now but, i tell you anyday anytime the challenage comes its also a right to live and defend yourself. |
I think this is a true picture. Both Buhari and GEJ were not responsible for the problems, except for the religious leaders who have continued to fan hatred and religious dominance as reason to resist or remain! |
Why in the World Would Anyone Kill Another? Sam Nda-Isaiah 2 May 2011 Email| Print| Comment Nigeria: Why in the World Would Anyone Kill Another? Sam Nda-Isaiah 2 May 2011 The piece that appears today, with the exception of EARSHOT, is repeated because of its currency. It is my sincere hope that it helps galvanise us to start moving in the right direction. From next week, I intend to start a post-mortem on the elections now that they are over - or almost over, if you take Imo State into reckoning. Only illiteracy and a sick mind would lead a man onto the kind of killing spree that greeted the outcome of the just concluded presidential election. Last week on this page, I wrote that politicians still rigged the elections in spite of the president's promise and that some of the figures that were eventually released did not tally with the figures that were released at the polling booths. And, in the presidential election, the figures that emerged from some of the south-south and south-east states only reminded us of the 2003 and 2007 Obasanjo-rigged elections. I also don't believe, as I wrote last week, that the elections so far have met the minimum irreducible standard of a democracy. But having said that, I see no reason why innocent people - and for all we know, some of them might have even voted for the opposition - should be murdered in cold blood in the aftermath of the presidential election last week. Only an illiterate supporter of CPC would kill a Christian or burn a church in the backwash of the election because, as far as I know, many Christians voted for the CPC all through. Only a jaundiced mind would not know that the CPC vice presidential candidate was not only a Christian, but also a pastor who runs his own church. If Pastor Tunde Bakare had had a church in the wrong part of Kaduna, the church would probably have been burnt down by now by his own CPC supporters. There is a very serious problem here. Also, some of the Christians who voted for PDP and had to burn mosques and other Islamic symbols in reprisal attacks did that forgetting that one of the symbols of their support, the PDP vice presidential candidate, Arc Namadi Sambo, is a Muslim. It is very difficult to know at what point the campaigns became so sectarian. The two main presidential candidates, President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the CPC, both sought votes from Christian and Muslim voters alike. Namadi Sambo and Jonathan's chief campaigner Ambassador Dalhatu Sarki Tafida were still Muslims the last time I checked. Buhari's running mate is a foremost Nigerian pastor and the chairman of the CPC, Prince Tony Momoh, is a Christian. There are those who have faulted Buhari's strategy of relying heavily on the votes from the 19 northern states in his quest to win the presidency. But if it is true that Buhari had this strategy, then, he must also have been relying heavily on the Christian votes of the north as there is a substantial Christian population in Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kogi and even Kwara and Niger states. In at least five of these, Christians are in the majority. So, in a sense, the problem could not have come from the presidential candidates. In the course of his campaigns, Buhari openly visited several top Christian leaders in the country especially Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, whom he visited several times including attending at least one his programmes in Abuja. Jonathan also on his own tried to get votes in the Muslim-dominated areas of the North, without which support he knew, as a candidate, he would not make a headway. There is no reason which would justify the killing of Ukeoma Ikechukwu, a youth corps member, with six of his colleagues in Bauchi; they were burnt to death. It is both gruesome and barbaric. We must correctly diagnose what the real problems are and confront them squarely and, in my opinion, they are mainly three. First, the clergymen of both faiths must receive a disproportionate share of the blame for the tragedy. I know of imams and pastors who preached to their flock to elect only members of their faith. I saw the texts from both sides and these texts obviously did more than anything else to inflame passions. A very good friend of mine, a Christian from the south-east who, on his own, has campaigned for Buhari since 2003 when the general first made an attempt at the presidency, received a text urging him to vote for Buhari because he (Buhari) is a northerner and a Muslim. He showed me the text in amusement. I told him in mischief to reply the text telling the sender that he is a southerner and a Christian but would still vote for Buhari. He didn't receive a reply. That, of course, is the kind of foolishness that went on. On the day that news filtered out that Pastor Bakare had been nominated the running mate of General Buhari, a pastor friend of mine who lives in Kaduna called with excitement to say he was switching his vote from PDP to the CPC because the CPC had chosen a practising pastor like him as the vice presidential candidate. He went on to inform me that they (meaning he and his colleagues, I think) had all made up their minds to vote for Jonathan before then because he is a Christian, but, with this development, everything would change. All I did was laugh, because I thought his position was funny. I was almost asking him what the provision of electricity and eradication of poverty had to do with an elected person's faith but I held my peace. It gets even better. Another text I received on Saturday urged me to vote for the ACN governorship candidate in Kaduna because he is a Muslim. The sender urged me not to vote for the CPC candidate because, even though he is a Muslim, he is not Hausa. This era of SMS has obviously brought some comical relief to the current drudgery of dry electioneering campaigns, if you have a good sense of humour. And many of the clowns who send these texts are not even nimble enough to know that they could and often do get to the wrong persons. The person who sent that text to me must obviously be dumb. I remember the story that the respected Col Dangiwa Umar (rtd) told me recently. A group of people had visited him from Katsina and, as they were about to depart, he jokingly asked them who they would be voting for in the presidential election. "We will vote for our own, of course," they told him. Perfunctorily, Col Umar told them he should have known that they would vote Buhari since they were from Katsina. "No," they protested. When they said, "our own", they were referring to Jonathan. They belong to the very minority Christian population of Katsina State. Col Umar was shocked to find out how religion had eaten deep. I insist that clergymen should bear most of the responsibility because, as clergymen to several faithful who have disparate political allegiances, it should be clearly unwise to take sides the way some of them did. For instance, VP Namadi Sambo's imams who would preach against voting a Christian president should risk losing both the respect and membership of the VP and other PDP supporters, while the pastor who preaches against voting a Muslim president to Pastor Bakare, Tony Momoh and Lanre Tejuoso should be ready to lose key members of his church who worked tirelessly to ensure Buhari's victory at the presidential election. Relevant Links West Africa Nigeria Governance Conflict That was why it was very upsetting to read that Pastor Ayo Oritsejeafor, the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), had endorsed Candidate Goodluck Jonathan a few days to the election. By the way, Pastor Bakare is also a key member of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, and one of those at whose behest Oritsejeafor is president. Leaders who have charge over large groups should be wise enough to maintain neutrality on sensitive matters even if it is fake. The second strong reason for the post-presidential election madness is abject poverty. Anyone who would go on the rampage, killing innocent people and burning churches just because his preferred candidate did not win must be without gainful employment and probably miserably poor and desperately hopeless. It should, therefore, not be surprising that most of the killings happened in the north. Even though poverty is pervasive in Nigeria, it is in the north that it is most abject. |
edoyad:Date: Thu, 21 Oct 2010 15:44:47 -0700 Subject: [ANOG] Making History: Nigerian born Dr. Isa and Dr. Amina Odidi Another proud moment for Nigerians. Bola Adesuyi http://www.nigeriannewsservice.com/index.php?option=com_acymailing&ctrl=url&urlid=5&mailid=31&subid=7994 History is being made once again as Nigerian born Dr. Isa Odidi and Dr. Amina Odidi, one of Canada’s top pharmaceutical scientists and prolific inventors and their pharmaceutical company Intellipharmaceutics have been invited by a stock exchange based in the United States of America (NASDAQ) to ring the opening bell before trading begins in New York city. This event will take place tomorrow 22nd October 2010. The NASDAQ invitation highlights the achievements of these two scientists and their pharmaceutical company. This is a very significant milestone for the Odidi’s and their company and I dare say a first in the annals of Nigeria’s history. The first Nigerian couples to ring the opening bell at NASDAQ, first Nigerian owned pharmaceutical company to ring the opening bell. It seems these renowned scientists turned pharmaceutical business moguls will never seize to impress and amaze. They were the first Nigerians to found and own a company (a technology based pharmaceutical company for that matter) that is publicly traded on the two international stock exchanges i.e., NASDAQ in the United States of America and TSX in Canada. Who says Nigerians in Diaspora are not good ambassadors of Nigeria? Drs Isa and Amina Odidi truly make Nigeria and Nigerians proud! They deserve our praise. We call on the Nigerian government to recognize and give honor to whom honor is due. For those who are interested in watching the event, it will be broadcast live. In 1998, Dr. Isa Odidi and Dr. Amina Odidi co-founded the publicly-traded Canadian based Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. Dr. Isa Odidi received his B.Sc. degree in Pharmacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and his M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Technology and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of London. He is also a graduate of the Western Executive Management Program and obtained his MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Dr. Amina Odidi received her B.Sc. degree in Pharmacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and her M.Sc. in Biopharmacy and her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of London. Although these entrepreneurs are now Canadian citizens, they are originally from Kano, Nigeria About Intellipharmaceutics Inc.: Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. is a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel or generic controlled release and targeted release oral solid dosage drugs. The Company's patented Hypermatrix(tm) technology is a unique and validated multidimensional controlled-release drug delivery platform that can be applied to the efficient development of a wide range of existing and new pharmaceuticals. Based on this technology, Intellipharmaceutics has a pipeline of products in various stages of development in therapeutic areas that include neurology, cardiovascular, GIT, pain and infection. The Company has three products under review with the FDA for the purpose of obtaining regulatory approval. These represent a 6 billion dollars in brand sales. Intellipharmaceutics' lead generic product under development is Dexmethylphenidate XR (dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride), a generic version of Focalin XR(r), which is an extended-release capsule for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. In 2008, Focalin(r), including Focalin XR(r), had U.S. sales of approximately U.S. $350 million. Intellipharmaceutics' lead non-generic product under development is Rexista(tm) oxycodone, an abuse- and alcohol-deterrent controlled-release oral formulation of controlled-release oxycodone hydrochloride for the relief of pain. Rexista(tm) oxycodone is a unique dosage form designed to be deterrent to some of the well-documented abuses associated with currently marketed oxycodone products, such as abuse of these drugs by nasal inhalation when crushed or powdered and by injection when combined with solvents. Rexista(tm) oxycodone is also designed to resist release of the entire dose when consumed with alcohol, a significant problem with some opioid drugs. In 2008, oxycodone had U.S. sales of approximately U.S. $2 billion. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/igala/message/4760 Anyway you can check online if it really matters.I know you really want this credit badly going to the middle belt or someone else other than the north. We on the other hand her proud. ![]() |
Again, Buhari dares Jonathan •Arrest me if you can From AIDOGHIE PAULINUS, Abuja Sunday, May 01, 2011 •Buhari Photo: Sun Publishing More Stories on This Section Former Head of State and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari, has for the second time in one week challenged President Goodluck Jonathan to arrest him if he could. Buhari’s daring statement came even as leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, called for his arrest and prosecution over the riots that claimed lives and property in the North. Dokubo said: “People like Buhari should not be allowed to be moving freely after that carnage. They should be brought to book to show they are not above the law. The President must assert his power and arrest the man. Nothing will happen. I repeat, nothing will happen.” The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, made a similar call fror Buhari’s arrest last Sunday. Speaking through his spokesman, Mr Yinka Odumakin, Buhari said after all the killings and bombings the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) claimed responsibility for, it took the intervention of a Nobel Laureate to negotiate for them before the President of Nigeria. “Now, a man for which no crime has been established against, they want him arrested. So, for the last time again, we dare them. Let them go and arrest him,” Odumakin said. He further said that Dokubo-Asari’s call was not surprising as it confirmed the plan for secession of the Ijaw nation.“When there was bomb blast in Abuja on October 1, 2010, MEND claimed responsibility, but the Commander-in-Chief absolved MEND and said he knows those who carried out the bombing. Till date he has not told the nation who those bombers are. Now a man who has condemned violence, who has condemned the killings and went on air to condemn the unfortunate incidents, they are calling for his arrest. “Nigeria should be aware that there is a small group in this country today that is bent on breaking up this country and they want to use the office of the President of Nigeria, which they have captured by hook or crook, and their antics should be noticed by the Nigerian people.” Responding to the violence that trailed the presidential election, former Deputy Senate President in the botched Third Republic, Albert Legogie, said Nigerian leaders should be held responsible instead of individuals. According to Legogie, those involved in the violence were mainly street urchins, adding that the violence was unnecessary since it was the best thing that happened to Nigeria since the June 12 presidential election.“I am of the opinion that the violence that followed the presidential election was unnecessary and uncalled for in the sense that the election was reasonably credible, transparent, free and fair. I think it is probably the best we have had in the country since the presidential election of 1992. So, when people started fighting and killing themselves over it, I felt very disappointed. “I think Nigerians should learn to accommodate themselves; accommodate other people’s religion, other people’s differences and we should learn to live together as members of one big family. “If you go back again, you find that we still have to hold our leaders responsible for the violence, in the sense that most of these people who sped into the streets and started maiming and killing people are urchins. People that have no homes, people that have no jobs.“They are street urchins. If we had created jobs for these people, if we had created welfare facility for these people, if we had accommodated them in our system, they would not have gone the way they went. “I listened to a friend who told me that most of them would say oh, look at this one, he is very well-fed, he must look like a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) man. Anybody that was well-fed was a PDP man and they descended on the person. “So, one of the challenges the President should face right now is to create massive job opportunity for the large number of youths roaming the streets of this country. We can no longer defend it and unless we do it now, we are heading for a major disaster. The killings were just a warning,” the Edo State-born Legogie said. |
For now attack if it makes you feel better!!!! On the other hand while you are at it maybe you want to reflect on the others issues.Lastly i take this as pre-planned and a deliberate attempt to cause further choas. About the arrest of NPLF members, if you can do it go ahead or If GEJ/FG has any credible proof go ahead with arrest else you better don't start any nonsense you can't finish. ![]() Lastly i thought they arrested some people found carrying out some of this violence. lets charge them to court and see where it ends period.Buhari's crime is not saying anything and i bet you it would be worst if anything happens to him. Atleast JRC or MEND senior is worst already telling us how they would attack the innocent without remorse. If anything i hope GEJ would be courageous to round them(JRC) up after the attack sha! We have a public proof!!!! |
I am a muslim from the northern part and if there is anything this painful for me identifying with the north is this single un-Godly and dastardly act.I hope God almighty grants them eternal rest. For the people who did this i wonder what the FG is doing.Move in security operatives and comb the area for any or all suspects.Else they have a duty to ensure that community realizes what they have done to a representative of the Government can not be tolerated. Lastly i am short of words.May God give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.It is definately hard for them at this time.May God expose the people or better still prepare a place worthy of there actions, if they do not seek repentance and forgiveness with the offended and his maker. Isa yuguda you remain a buffon for your explanation on the stuation!!!! ![]() |
Don't mind them Jare! Buhari should stop his supporters when GEJ could use the security and other powers given to a sitting president to prevent or stop it?Let me ask if today Buhari went total rogue would GEJ be waiting for him to change before they can bring in security to victims? We are all stupid especially this one and being sentimental. If the FG had tangilble evidence and feel CPC/Buhari should be prosecuted then what are they waiting for? Lies and misguided facts always.Mr Beaf or what is that your name.Do you know that he Buhari is actually holding a flag and not a spear as you wrongly want people to think? You should be asking yourself tomorrow if you stood in front of your maker being asked about lying over issues would you be able to defend such facts?I think you are becoming more of a hater don't you think? ![]() |
Jonathan suspends Minister of Interior Share9 Abuja (WorldStage Newsonline)-- Barely 24 hours after he was officially declared as winner of the Saturday presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria on Tuesday suspended Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho, Minister of Interior over a number of lapses in the discharge of his duty. The president who many have accused of not been able to take decisive action against erring members of his cabinet, according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ima Niboro, said the suspension was with immediate effect. He said the suspension was a result of a number of lapses in his handling of the ministry. He said Iheanacho had since been asked to hand over to the Minister of Labour, Mr. Emeka Wogu, who will, in addition to his present portfolio, oversee that ministry. The three paragraph statement reads, “President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has ordered the immediate suspension of Capt. Emmenuel Iheanacho as Minister of Interior and member of the Federal Executive Council. “Capt. Iheanacho has been directed to hand over to the Minister of Labour, Mr. Emeka Wogu, who will, in addition to his present portofolio, oversee that ministry. “Capt. Iheanacho’s suspension comes as a result of a number of lapses in the political leadership of the ministry traceable to his personal and official conduct. For now, his continued manning of the ministry is not in the interest of the nation.” Story by Victor Iluyemi (info@worldstagegroup.com) |
Maybe you guys should just pray for GEJ & the nation to do better, than all this nonsense!!! ![]() May the Almighty Guide and Assist you as you pilot the affairs of the nation.May you be able to change our path to destruction into a path of development and unity!!! Amin. congrats Mr GEJ our president. |

I see your point my friend. For me and the people around me,saturday we cast our votes and Buhari/Bakare remain the choice. |
All this much crap imagine!personally i have worked for the Jang PDP youth group around this area Bukuru.I know him in his humble days before he became governor. The man has a good record as military governor. For me even when he was in ANPP against the PDP i voted him cos i felt he would deliver.today i see no reason.Where is my neighborhood?where are my friends?why can't i go places freely?why so much hate and killings?over a year of same endless killings without a simple solution!Yet some call him a saint or a victim of conspiracy and plots or refusing to be corrupt ![]() Most people supporting him here are just xtian religious bigots and fanatics. What they see is a man who keeps making his people think the invincible enemy is to blame.while JANG picks a group and demonize for the population to hate. He keeps exploiting there sentiments to stay alive and continue to deprive others for himself and Du kinsmen. When he is done with the so called hausa/muslims.Others will join the que.Just time. Imagine people told in churches Tallen master minded bombings in plateau.Tallen getting funding from saudi arabia. How grossly stupid.Simply because she stands against him.Now she is a muslim, enemy of xtians, bomber. when will this nonsense stop. The lies deceit and killings for political gains.i am tired.Today my community rahol kanang stands in ruins and he is there still instigating hate in churches and youth group. Why? JANG is evil and a blood sucking freak. He supports and instigate hate with the aid of religious groups and some youth platforms particularly his kins men.Whether you believe it or not i have stayed since 1988 and still have family there and a house obviously without much neighbors. ![]() Nonsense!!!! His children lavishly squander the monies of the state and people only care about keep him to help them destroy Hausas!!! Problem is the state only becomes more polarized with no way of kicking them out. They will always be there forget that dreams of finishing them or driving them away by intimidation and frustration.Someday a table shall be needed to discuss all this atrocity and then only would people realize it was a useless path they took out of hate. May the lives of the victims rest in peace and may we all learn to say the truth and resist evil in our dealings. |
For me i think the platforms is there. The resolve or position to pick candidates of your choice is with Nigerians. Its to early for one to say an alliance or failure of one could result in defeat. Nigerians know what they want and alot more remains in our fate as a nation.May the people vote and there votes count.May the enemies of this nation fail and fall during this elections.May the the voice of the people trumph over the voice godfathers and money bags. My VOTE is dedicated to the Buhari and Bakare team.Don't care even if i stand alone in the polling unit as the only BB 2011 supporter.I am sure and certain! VOTE BUHARI/BAKARE 2011 |
Buhari weeps over nation’s problems On April 13, 2011 · · In Headlines Says this is his last outing for the Presidency =Says he didn’t touch any kobo while in office =Challenges other candidates now and before to say same By HENRY UMORU ABUJA— IT was a solemn moment, Wednesday, as the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, and former Military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, broke down in tears while lamenting the problems confronting the country. The venue was the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Buhari broke down in tears at the event organised by the party to mark the end of its presidential campaign. Buhari wept intermittently as he managed to conclude his 12 page address. Vice presidential candidate of CPC, Pastor Tunde Bakare, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, ex- Secretary of Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd.) who were on the high table as Buhari sobbed in between words were also moved to tears as they used their handkerchiefs to control sipping tears. Ife Oyedele, a member of the Board of Trustees, BoT of the party, however, wept profusely throughout the period Buhari spoke. Emotions The emotions created by Buhari’s sobs inevitably led to the abrupt disruption of the question and answer session with newsmen that was scheduled to follow. In his speech, Buhari had said that the 2011 contest would be his last pursuit of the presidency stressing that while he occupied the office of military head of state, he never touched a kobo of public funds. He thus challenged other presidential candidates who had occupied public office to a public attestation of his claim. “After being head of state, I am sure I could easily have retired into a life of comfort and ease as an elder statesman, as a contractor or as a beneficiary of anyone of the nation’s many generous prebendal offerings. But that is not what I wish to do with my life. And so, if I don’t take any of these alternative courses of action, it should be clear that I am not in this for the love of office or for pursuit after personal glory or in order to achieve some personal goal. Far be it from me that this should be. I need nothing and I have nothing more to prove. I am in this solely for the love of my country and concern for its destiny and the fate of its people. And that is why, despite the many disappointments along the way, I am still in the struggle and will remain in it to the end. I have decided to dedicate the remainder of my life to fighting for the people of this country-until their right is restored to them. Massive rigging Buhari who urged the electorate to guard and protect their votes in next Saturday’s election, warned, “You must maintain your presence during the counting and collating of the votes and the announcement of the results. Because you haven’t done this in all cases, they have already started turning your victories into defeats. The massive rigging that took place last Saturday is unacceptable, and you must not allow a repeat performance next Saturday.” The Presidential candidate who titled his briefing as “Creating Hope for the Future,” said, “Today is exactly 18 weeks since I declared my intention to contest the presidential election; and I must say it has been a very memorable period of time for me. As always, being on the campaign trail has been for all of us a most educating experience. “For me this campaign is doubly significant. First, because it is an election in which more clearly and more unambiguously than the previous two in 2003 and 2007, our victory is assured, as evidenced by the unprecedented turnout by the people and spontaneous popular acclaim all over the country. “And, second, because this campaign is the third and last one for me; since, after it, I will not present myself again for election into the office of the president. Potable water “As a Nigerian, I already know as of fact that for a vast majority of our people electricity and potable water remain unavailable and unaffordable. I have been told of how uncountable numbers of children drop out of schools because their parents cannot afford to pay their school fees and how many more go without school all together.” Expressing gratitude to the nation, Buhari said: “That is why I wish to seize this opportunity to express my gratitude to you, the people of this country for your constancy in keeping faith with the nation despite all these problems; and I must, especially, thank you most warmly for your unprecedented, massive show of support to our cause, as expressed by your constant presence on the scene. “This demonstration of support and your determination to midwife and support change are a cause of concern for the enemies of democracy, progress and national unity. And I must also thank you for answering our call to you to register en masse for the election. I am very glad to say that you have done this. Now, you must take matters to their logical conclusion. The CPC Presidential Candidate said: “My primary mission in the service of Nigeria as president is to provide the requisite leadership for the actualization of our collective vision _ by example, by action and by sacrifice.” These for me shall remain articles of faith in my conduct as a public servant. To actualize this vision and achieve the mission, I will be guided by the following three principles: creating opportunity for all Nigerians, demanding responsibility from all Nigerians, and forging a strong and virile communal spirit among all Nigerians.” “This is a vision that should draw us together as a people and not pull us apart as enemies; a vision that will improve leadership and not seek to deify leaders; a vision that will enrich the system and not steal from the country and impoverish it; a vision that will develop our potentials and not destroy us as a people. This is my vision for Nigeria. I believe it is a vision whose time has come. We must, therefore, as a people, work hard to create this new Nigeria of our dream. ‘’Fellow patriots, the seed of our future is in our today. As we prepare to enter into the second decade of the new millennium, more and more of our people will be looking up to the leadership for solutions to the problems of their daily lives. These are demands we must strive hard to meet. I joined politics and particularly this presidential race to respond to this need. “While we will strive to work closely with all anti_corruption agencies, we are however going to lead by example. We will endeavour to build and promote honesty in our polity, so that public properly is treated as a sacred trust in our care for which we will be held accountable. “Never again should the people of this nation have to tolerate the rape of their nation, the pillage of their resources and the consequent destruction of their nation. In order to succeed in this, as in all other national endeavours, we need unity to end the destructive divisiveness along the people of our dear country. I would therefore like to call upon you to close your ranks and stand proudly as Nigerians, because there is pretty little that can be achieved without unity. “Unity is needed within the party, between our party and other parties; it is in fact needed among all the political parties within the country, and it is needed between political friends and foes. We need unity of purpose to defeat the enemies of the people, to be able to successfully attack problems and to be able to deepen the roots of our nascent democratic culture. BB for Life |

Botched polls exposed PDP’s rigging strategies – Buhari 2011 April Polls Update Apr 5, 2011 BY SIMON EBEGBULEM BENIN – PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, General Muhammadu Buhari, Tuesday, said that the postponement of the National Assembly election had exposed the rigging strategies of the ruling People’s Democratic Party PDP. Buhari, who addressed newsmen at the Benin Airport on his way to Anambra State, said the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to postpone the election was a blessing in disguise, as it revealed the plot by the PDP to rig the election as they had allegedly done in the past. He said during the botched National Assembly election, there were instances where the total number of voters was 1,000 but INEC sent only 300 ballot papers there, adding that upon investigation, it was discovered that INEC officials withheld the papers. He, however, called on eligible voters across the country to insist on INEC conducting the 2011 elections as it was their constitutional rights to help chose those who will govern them in the next four years. In a related development Col. Paul Ogbebor, a PDP chieftain in Edo State, has described Buhari as the man Nigeria needed to restore her lost glory, because he has all it takes to rid the country of corruption. ![]() |
| Advanced search Home | Editorial | Opinion | Why do they fret over Buhari, Bakare? Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font Femi Akintunde-Johnson 04/04/2011 00:00:00 It is confounding that the presidential candidate of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) barely two weeks ago marked the first anniversary of his entry into CPC. How did he do it? A party without a single elected office holder – no governor, senator, no member of house of representatives or state assembly…not even one miserable counsellor – can provoke so much unsettling presence that it has practically become a formidable leading opposition to the ruling party in Nigeria! Recollect that on February 1, 2010, Buhari publicly announced his tactical withdrawal from All Nigerian People’s Party, ANPP, as a solution to what he diagnosed as "the debilitating, ethical and ideological conflicts" inherent within. Keen observers of Nigerian politics cannot stop grimacing at the strange spectacle of Buhari’s erstwhile vice presidential candidate, Chief Ume Ume-Ezeoke in cuddly embrace with the newly elected administration of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, even as Buhari was still at the election tribunal contesting the authenticity of Yar’Adua’s 2007 victory. Only few people were surprised when Buhari shrugged off ANPP and embraced CPC on March 17, 2010. The notoriously uncompromising new democrat could no longer, in good conscience, sit on the same table with most of the leadership of his old party. Many however pitied Buhari as they viewed the trajectory of his political maneuvering as the beginning of his electoral sunset. It is not unkind to say that perhaps only his close circle of friends gave him a chance to do any better than he did in 2007. In fact, by the time the ruckus caused by Yar’Adua’s death was settling down last May-June, only hardened Buhari apologists had any slice of hope that the demystification of Buhari which began in 2003 would not be finally completed rather ignominiously in the 2011 polls. No one fully understands what developed six months after CPC birthed in our political lexicon. The tsunami became visible only in the last quarter of last year. As the ruling party wobbled and fumbled towards its fractious presidential primaries, with upheavals erupting in the concaves of its demi-gods and godfathers, the sun of Buhari and his fledging party began to gather heat - such that by the time Buhari began to ruminate on who would be his running mate in December of 2010, the tall man of Daura (Katsina State) had "miraculously" over-run the entire northern political hemisphere. It just so happened that the disastrous northern consensus candidacy peddled by Malam Adamu Ciroma-led Northern Political Leaders Forum, NPLF had stoked up so much animus and hubris against the zoning skirmishes within PDP, that the scales simply got smashed off the faces of the generality of the northern people. By some divine stroke of class-implosion, all the northern heavy weights in PDP were comprehensively whacked in the power play, and the lucky man of Otuoke (Bayelsa State), the humble and pacifist Goodluck Ebele Jonathan stepped onto the limelight in all his amphibious glory. Since then, PDP has never been the same again. And gbiam! It happened. The man whom power brokers disdain fully dismissed as a perennial contestant with an "it-must-be-me" complex, became the darling of the masses of his people. And so the rebellion against the sprawling glory of PDP took a dramatic wild swing. It soon became clear that the nation is witnessing a political sandstorm with potential devastating potency capable of shattering kingdoms, and uprooting acclaimed political structures. Yet, the king-makers were blinded by their own invincibility, uncertain of the genuine arrival of Buhari as alternate power source. By the time Buhari convinced vocal Lagos cleric and convener of the strategic Save Nigeria Group, SNG, Babatunde Bakare to be his running mate, the phenomenon called Hurricane Buhari was unfurled. To underscore the panic created by the coming together of the twosome within the establishment is to collate the avalanche of articulated and disparate criticisms, editorial and electronic disaster-warning signals and sundry propaganda gimmicks. Great energy and huge resources were expended in the first two months of this year to pillory and to rubbish the choice of Bakare. Suddenly, it sank in… the shadowy Buhari has now become a real and present danger to those who are "destined" to keep the keys to the cockpit of the country in their safe custody. From January 30, when Bakare eventually accepted to run with Buhari, the theatre of war expanded dramatically; it was no longer enough to charge that Buhari has a sense of entitlement, that his brand of draconian and unbending concept of leadership and governance is a recipe for monstrous class warfare… and that irrespective of his vision for rescuing Nigeria and combating corruption, misgovernance, social iniquities and free-for-all stampede for the oil wealth of this nation, Buhari had to be stopped. So, the air is filled with the dust of angry and subtle propaganda; deliberate distortions of recent history; deadly attacks and mindless incarceration of opposing views; character and physical assassinations of troublesome opposition; systemic blacklisting of opposition campaigns from accessing choice venues in several states…ad nauseam. Is it any wonder that more than any candidate in this election, the most special attention is allocated to the likely and dreaded emergence of Bakare as Vice President. Countless pages of advert space (my modest estimation is that each page ranges between N350,000 and N500,000) are launched every day in as many as eight national dailies with vicious unprincipled attacks directed at Bakare and token jabs at his frontrunner. Interestingly, the most viral weapon some of the faceless NGOs ("Coalition for Transparency and Integrity", "Gbagi Foundation" and "Gaskiya Tafi Kwabo" can come up with to "deal" with CPC’s Bakare are extracts of his messages in the past six years. For a man who has not benefited from any government in power, as he often declares… who has railed against all sorts of social ills, and consistently challenged his listeners to hold him by his unusually high ground of public morality, Bakare is not an easy customer to tar with empirical evidence of corrupt practices. So they settle for "… he said Buhari would fail in 2007 election" (as if he didn’t fail); ", he said IBB should explain mysterious deaths of Dele Giwa, MKO Abiola, Mamman Vatsa…"! Is there any serious public commentator in Nigeria who did not call IBB to come clean on those issues….?To add a veneer of credibility to their propaganda, bromides of the CD and receipt obtained from the bookshop inside Bakare’s church were attached to those intellectually empty full page colour adverts, as if some investigative panache was exerted to obtain those materials. What a waste of cash! But Nigerians can see through this expensive but ineffective campaign of attrition. The series of mischievous adverts follows usual pattern (Words on Marble) but with a new level of asinine desperation as the elections draw near. They extract "useful" quotes out of their context and "skillfully" delete words and phrases that would have situated the quotes in the realm of reasonableness. So, why the sudden fret over a Buhari they claimed could not win election even in his Daura village, and a Bakare who supposedly has no "electoral value"? Why are they splashing hundreds of millions of naira to fuel massive media campaigns basically devoted to pulling down these two men from the hearts of their teeming admirers? That answer will only be fully resolved on April 16. •Akintunde-Johnson, is a journalist and writer |

@op Do you know that Abacha,IBB,Gusau,Diya, domkat bali, dongon yaro, lawal gwadabe, even the present COAS,CDS,CNS,CAS and co were also in the military.some holding position during buhari. We all know the story they (the big guys) kicked him out because they wanted access to all that he denied them from the national purse It is obvious there intention going by what happened under such people who came later. ![]() Gusau was a key coup plotter who saw buhari come to power but immediately buhari got information about his wrong deal, didn't waste time to have a panel probe his wrong dealings Ibb was coming up next when he quickly staged the coup that also prove buhari's case that they stage the coup and brought him to power. What they didn't know was that Buhari had zero tolerance for anyone regardless, if caught screwing up.People think Idiagbon could have stopped the coup if only he was around i think is wrong. They IBB,Gwandu and Gusau executed the coup pretty much and knew the terrain of the game.IBB proved his stuff clinching to power untill he got tired.Alot more military guys exist in the army before Buhari came to power. The truth is most of them knew he had zero tolerance for any fraudelent deals. They either kept there corrupt ambitions away or waited till they got him out of power.Obj can even attest to Buhari's committement to service under his government.
^--- Did Bello develop the north? When was the north wealthy? Like, GEJs premise is that at some point in time, the North was wealthy. But is his assumption true? If so, we can try to understand what went wrong, why it fell apart. But if it never was wealthy, then a different approach is required, no? In the groundnut days, was this generating a lot of money? So that the average prosperity levels were decent? For the Western Region, I know that there was a time when it was very well off. Possibly the wealthiest region in Nigeria, even. But since then, agriculture fell apart, industry fell apart, infrastructure fell apart, and the region became much poorer. But at least I know that there was a time when it was well-run and prosperous. I know much less about the north and its economic history, though.
If you check the history of most states in the north from industry to educational structures. To even the educated elite and some rich folks here in the north, there history dates back to the Bello era.He gave them support and what they need to move on.Even Buhari acknowledge he benefited from it.being called from no where and given a chance to aspire for greatness .Today this crop of elite just get more wives and cars while they let things fall apart. Ahmadu bello touched more hearts than all this stupid fools put together and he did that without having any stupid forum or get together hypocrisy. Agriculture kept the North and that is true.I know a few people that i can tell you were rich because of trading.Kano for instance had grown because of the groundnut pyramid and agricultural trade.Today that history still holds on. |
