mannatech: Trying to survive in Nigeria currently is getting hard even as a single guy only responsible for my self. I'm currently working as a meter installer but the job is based on the number of meters you installed. started this job three years ago and so far I have gathered some experience the pay is just too low
I have seen a lot of growth potential in the power sector but the metering sub sector is still growing and mostly depends on government's policy but I want to tap into the potential in the power sector.
I would like to know if it's advisable for me at 35 to go back to school and study electrical engineering and what are my chances of getting a long term job afterwards. Inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Since there's potential, incorporate your business and keep pushing. Nigeria currently is on another level economically. I only ate once yesterday. |

NNPC advice to depots as at 31st May 2023 Ogun, Ado, Osun, Akure and other south west state will sell at 500 while Lagos sell at 488 abatically: So I got up early this morning, around 4am to queue for fuel at an nnpc station somewhere in Lagos. I had about 7 cars in front of me while the queue behind me was very very long. They were selling for N185 per liter. It was almost my turn when they stopped selling for whatever reason. After like an hour they decided to restart selling but at a new price. Alas. It is now being sold for N488 |

ON FUEL SUBSIDY...
As HR practitioners and driver of Businesses we cannot afford to take a back seat and fold our hands without proffering solutions to Senior Management and Executives, let’s be proactive.
Let’s not wait for that employee to slump in the office before making moves to ease this pressure and tension in the country.
Some initiatives you can introduce are:
👉🏽Remote or Hybrid work mode can be activated.
👉🏽Reduce work hours for early closure from work to enable staff get home on time.
👉🏽Introduce Rota-work system whereby some employees would have on and off-days.
👉🏽Employees can do car-pooling to save on cost of fueling.
👉🏽Organizations can sign agreement with Vehicle leasing companies to convey employees To and Fro their work places.
👉🏽Motivate employees by paying COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) or make provision for one-off payment on transportation allowance for 2 months.
Inflation rate has been estimated at 18.5% so calculate COLA at 18.5% of gross salary or work around a variable depending on organization purse.
👉🏽Increase or make provision for purchase of data to help improve seamless work from home.
👉🏽Organizations can withdraw cash systematically and help re-distribute to their employees through their bank’s relationship managers.
👉🏽Serve free lunch or pick 1-2 days a week to serve lunch in the office if you cannot afford 5 days.
👉🏽Introduce wellness programs and do physical exercise in the office once awhile.
👉🏽Admin officers or Facility Managers should liaise with their preferred (Vendor) Fuel Station they partnered with for their staff buses, so they can negotiate and purchase fuel to buy in gallons and re-distribute.
Never have we had it so bad; some people with salaries unable to access it in the banks, the accessible funds are being exorbitantly levied; unavailable and unaffordable fuel pump price has made a mockery of wages and salaries and the take-home pay cannot take people home again.
👉🏽While you are at it, have you started considering what Business Continuity Plan (BCP) you need to trigger going into the removal of fuel subsidy?
As HR practitioners, let’s start showing love and concern as the People’s Advocate.

Different soil types!
Sandy Soil: Sandy soil comprises larger particles with low cohesion and good drainage. It is typically well-drained, allowing water to pass through easily. Sandy soil has poor nutrient retention and is drought-prone due to its low water-holding capacity.
Loam Soil: Loam soil is a balanced combination of sand, silt, and clay particles. It has good drainage, adequate water-holding capacity, and moderate nutrient retention. Due to its balanced properties, loam soil is often considered the ideal soil type for plant growth.
Silt Soil: Silt soil consists of fine particles smaller than sand but larger than clay. It has moderate drainage and good water-holding capacity. Silt soil feels smooth and powdery when dry and can be easily compacted when wet.
Clay Soil: Clay soil is made up of very fine particles with high cohesion and poor drainage. It has excellent water-holding capacity but tends to become waterlogged. Clay soil has high nutrient retention but can be heavy and compacted when wet, leading to poor root growth.
Peat Soil: Peat soil is formed from partially decomposed plant material in waterlogged, acidic environments. It has a high organic content and is typically found in wetland areas. Peat soil is characterized by its dark brown or black color and spongy texture. It has poor drainage and low nutrient availability but can be used as a soil amendment to improve moisture retention.

Jobs/Vacancies › I Made This Huge Mistake In The Sixth Year Of My Professional Career by Hamachi(op): 8:03am On May 31, 2023 |
I made this huge mistake in the sixth year of my professional career. And it's amongst the few regrets I have…
While it is great to talk about accomplishments-little wins-work in progress- It does take immense courage to admit poor decisions and mistakes.
So, here I am, mustering up that courage to share my tale of woe with you-
I was at the peak of my performance but then I took a decision to switch to another organization for better pay. My decision to quit the company was a poor one.
If I could write a note to my younger self (I swear, I was younger back then) – I’d say: 📍The fundamental reasons to quit were not solid. I was experiencing tremendous learning there and had a great ‘fit’ with the culture and values. It was a mistake not to make the “quit” decision independent of the “join” decision. The quit decision was driven by a fancy title and pay. 📍 I should have evaluated my fit with the new company. It was apparent to me upon joining that I was not a great fit as it had a very different culture and values.
🔍 So- What factors are to be considered when you make the decision to quit? The answer lies in what it does to your real individual growth, your experience algorithm.
Keynotes when making the big career decision: ✅ The decision to quit your current organization and the decision to join a new one are two "different decisions". They are best made independent of each other. Ideally, the decision to quit must be made even before you start to explore and consider outside opportunities. ✅ The decision to quit your current organization should be driven by the fundamental reasons of learning and fit. Learning is about saying your experience algorithm growth has slowed down and the fit is about values and culture. Other reasons like pay, designation, and negative triggers like a temporary bad phase should have a lower weightage in the quit decision. ✅ Will the new place accelerate your real individual growth? Will the new place have a culture and value system where you will fit in and find it easy to deliver? Some key questions to evaluate apart from pay and other prospects.
Well - I do not believe in the “I have zero regrets in life” Policy! We stumble, we learn & move past them.
I stumbled & did learn! These are my takeaways from my professional experience- I'd love to hear yours |

Laconically speaking, subsidy is GONE as mentioned in the inaugural speech was as good as pronouncing any other items of the speech which is not bad.
The removal is obviously not effective yet. People need to see this and focus on the sellers/marketers who are hoarding the fuel in an attempt at to sell at a higher rate.
Price regulation is important to cushion the subsidy fraud, and I hope government will look into it.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: My Experience Working In A Nigerian Startup by Hamachi(f): 7:47am On May 31, 2023 |
INDUSTRIALFAN: new minimum wage is now 11 pounds an hour and this started April this year. I started out as a cleaner when I got to the uk which I only did for 3 months then moved to care which by the way was not easy to get as I had to do courses which btw I paid for. Got into care and where I work, it is £13.60P and hour.By my contract, I work 40hrs a week which brings me to 2,176. Now that’s what I earn on my allocated hours but then, I usually pick up extra shift’s which btw re in abundance. In my 3 months cleaning, I advised a Nigerian working as a store attendant to take up a cleaning job like myself as it paid better that what he was paid and in his words “god forbid…. How I go de clean?” Note that the cleaning was done with machines and barely and physical strength. Most Nigerians complaining are of same mindset. You traveled out to make money and forge a better path not coming to swag up and be a big boy. No body sends who your father is. Get off ur high horse and work.
Below is a chat btw myself and a friend who got into care before me. He got a 2008 C300 for £2k from his first salary as a carer. See samples of care jobs paying as much as £16.85 Per hour and all you need to get such jobs is getting certified which cost mostly less than £200 to do. What do I gain if I lie to anyone who doesn’t pay my bills to start with? I no de chase clout for any freaking reason not to talk of a faceless forum. To what end abeg? Oh…. Lest I forget, if the people you’re relying on for information are students then yes…. They can barely land such jobs because no one wants a worker who complains of not being able to come to work because they have one class or the other especially when you are needed to cover your shift. You owe no one any explanation |
