A more appropriate warning should read something like'' ALL US Citizens are hereby notified that there are jets on ground to move each and every American Citizen back to the US. THis is because of increasing lawlessness in the enclave called Nigeria being presently ruled by a cabal that have refused to do anything about the BokoHaramites. We the US have admitted that we cannot do anything about these blood thirsty and illiterate cows pretending to be humans. Any US Citizen that refuses to heed this warning will be left on His/Her own and at the mercy of the Bokoharamites. Signed by Obama

Politics › Re: Jonathan: I’ll Pay Any Price For Nigeria To Work by hardbody: 5:58pm On Sep 11, 2012
Euroclydon: President Goodluck Jonathan Sunday said he was prepared “to pay any price” to ensure that things work well in the country.

He also said would do everything possible to implement all his ongoing reforms in the critical sectors of the country.

The presidential assurance was contained in the goodwill message he sent to the opening ceremony of their second plenary session of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia.

Presidential Jonathan’s message, which was delivered by the minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, was full of assurances that everything was on course to pull the nation out of the present malaise.

It was also a vague warning to anti-reform elements as the President insisted that there was no going back on the privatisation of the power sector, adding that “the transformation agenda has reached the point where everybody would be proud that reform has taken place.”

Jonathan, who said he was delighted to have been invited by CBCN to come and “share with them thoughts and vision that guide our nation in the search for development,” said his administration was putting in place superstructures upon which Nigeria would attain greater heights.

He said he was not unmindful of the enormous problems facing the nation, noting that he has been confronting the challenges headlong, citing the youth employment programmes to keep the youths out of crime, the ongoing power sector reforms as well as efforts to tackle the infrastructure deficit across the nation.

Recalling the security challenges facing Nigeria and the rest of world today, Mr. President concluded that “human society today is far from attaining the City of God status as propounded by St Augustine of Hippo.

But he called on the Catholic Bishops to continue in their prayers so that the nation can overcome the critical challenges threatening the peaceful co-existence of citizens, adding that his administration was on its own committed to the building of an egalitarian society.

“This administration will always stand for the truth, peace and justice,” the President said. He quoted some passages from the Holy Bible as he urged Nigerians to learn to love one another and live in harmony in the pluralistic society.

Earlier in his address, the president of CBCN and Catholic
Bishop of Jos Diocese, Most Rev Ignatius Kaigama, called for a lasting solution to the senseless killings of Christians and other innocent citizens in the northern parts of the country, saying that patience was being overstretched.

“The patience of Christians, especially in the North has been tried and tested for too long now. We ask that the reckless attacks on them and other innocent Nigerians be brought to a halt, through the proper use of security intelligence/expertise available to government and security agencies both within and beyond Nigeria,” he said.

He lamented the ease with which people acquire dangerous weapons due largely to the country’s porous borders hence the bomb explosions and gun attacks that have remained unabated.

“The explosive devices have become like toys used at will and local and sophisticated arms escape our sea ports, land borders and find their way into the hands of criminals and hoodlums; it is a cause of very great concern,” the CBCN President said.
According to him, the apparently unchecked flow of arms and ammunition and the attendant killings have made “most Nigerians wonder whether we are on top of the situation as usually claimed” by government and security agencies.

However, Bishop Kaigama assured that the Catholic Bishops and the faithful were committed to a united and peaceful Nigeria despite the blood lettings of Christians and would continue to pray for the men of violence to change their ways and learn to love.

oliidell: At times, I seriously ponder on these lines..."If God asks me to make a wish. A single wish! What would I wish for." Now take a moment to think about this. Irrespective of d diversity of religion in dis world, there is one thing in common- The belief in an Almighty God". So,if He grants me such an opportunity, I alredy hav 100% assurance dat the wish would come true. Presently, my wish list is soo long and it's difficult to make a choice. But let's narrow it down to 2 category of wishes (worldly and unworldly).

So I ask all fun-lovin hustling people like me who still believe in a hereafter; Would you make a wish that would guarantee you material prosperity and then struggle to make heaven or would you make one that would secure your salvation and then continue hustling?

Answers please.....
My only wish will be for Nigeria to disintegrate. In the new dispensation, i will be whatever i have set myself out to be.
A GIFT TO ALL JOB SEEKERS IN NIGERIA THIS MONTH

This message goes to all job seekers on NAIRALAND.
Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, maker of Heaven and Earth; as many that are searching for jobs in Nigeria on Nairaland, if they forsake their evil ways and return unto me, I'll make a way for them in Nigeria no matter how worse the state of the country is for behold, I'll do a new thing. Shall it not spring forth, I'll even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Remember, the young lions do lack and suffer hunger but they that wait upon the Lord shall not lack anything good.
I now understand the cliche, 'Religion is the opium of the masses'. May i ask, is Saul also among the prophets? Guy, if you have a job or know someone that can help at least one person, just render that help, forget all these prophecies, God never spoke to you or through you, HE knows what is best and will extend his mercies to all deserving ones. I hate it when people wear a garb in an effort to deceive others. Do you have a better link to God than the rest of NLers who do not have a job yet? Mtcheeewwww. Yeye dey smell.

Phones › Re: ..... by hardbody: 4:26pm On Sep 11, 2012
Bros, mine (BB) was stolen at gun point, together with 2 other phones. I have lost hope on any recovery, however, i am ensuring that whoever buys those phones, especially the BB will not get value. If you had BB Protect on it, log on to the BB site and you can do quite a number of things that will make it near impossible to use by the potential buyer. Part of what i intend to do includes re-inviting the user to another BB, develop relationship and then get the person arrested. The buyer should be able to lead the police to the seller. Even if there is a chain, we will link them all up. I have already reported the phone stolen at the appropriate police station and i have sent a message that should consistently appear on the screen once it is switched on to indicate that the phone was stolen at gun point. I will recover my details which i had backed up. When last i checked through the site, my details were still intact. Take such steps if you had taken precautionary measures, you may yet get back some of the data in your 'lost' BB. I wish you the best of luck.

saintobi1: Firstly thanks to MOD for behaving properly nowadays (i attribute it to the ban-if-you-wish-revolution which is a continuous success). Such threads in the past suffered in the background

nssukka:it was originally called nri-ka i.e nri-nke-ka (greater nri). But a stronger hamlet took over, and its culture and language expanded and it was renamed nsu-ka i.e asusu-nke-ka (greater language).
Bonny - ubani (wealth of ani) was the original name. The early europeans probably asked about the name and when they were told, thought that it sounded like bonny which means 'good'.
Lagos is a portugeese name. Even some locations in the present day portugal goes by that name. The early explorers gave it that name and transcribed it on their maps which the later explorers consulted.
Onitsha - aniocha i.e ani-ocha (bright land? ,white land?)
umuahia - oma ahia . Oma is square, ahia is a noisy bird, an equivalent of sparrows

I thought Lagos was a name derived from L Eko, a manner of speaking by the older generations when they would say something like i am going to, or it happened at Eko. The portuguese, to make life easier for themselves, simply put those together as started taking about Lagos, a variation of Leko....I may be wrong, blame history not moi

Culture › Re: Renaming The Niger Area: Top Priority Place That Should Change Names by hardbody: 1:19pm On Sep 11, 2012
odumchi: He's referring to having them changed to their Igbo spellings. In the Igbo language, for the most part, things are spelled exactly the way they sound. For example, Owerri would be 'Owere' and Nsukka would be 'Nsuka'.

Ezeagu, I think there's a need for change also, but that would definitely require a large amount of resources.

Here are some more places that need to be changed:

Enugu to 'Enugwu'
Igbanke to 'Igbo-Akiri'
Igbuzor to 'Igbo-Uzọ'
Anambra to 'Ọmambala'
Orlu to 'Ọlu'
Ogwashi Uku to 'Ọgwashi Ukwu'
And possibly Arochukwu to 'Aruchukwu'
I probably would not join issues on these desired name changes, but for the mention of Okigbo. I do not see where the need for the change in Arochukwu is coming from, do you have a firm basis for the historical antecedents? you may wish to read a little more of the origin and the adaptation of the name. Just my views.

I tend to go with this view until there is a better explanation. As for the end time proponents, it is time to open your eyes to the realities of modern science. in your small myopic worlds, everything is explained by the end time theory. I am not an atheist and i believe in the Bible, but when we 'm0r0nically' attribute everything to end time, its either we are reading the bible upside down or we are so tired and frustrated with life that we are orchestrating our wish that the end should come even if the creator is not yet ready for it. A bunch of Mofos y'all are.

This is a goverment that claimed that it is cost effective to import fuel than to build and maintain new Refineries, yet the people they call militants, with little or no education, have developed their own technology, and now flooding the creeks with multiple Refineries, built with locally sourced materials, and selling their refined products like kerosene, petrol etc to the local communities at cheaper rate. For me, their efforts need to be encouraged and not to be destroyed.
