Romance › Re: My Family Wants Me To Marry For Money. by hardbody: 5:34pm On Sep 06, 2012
septua: Hi.i am young woman in my early 20s. I have been seeing a young man of 30 for about a year now and about 2 months ago he started talking about marriage plans although he hasn't proposed but i took that as one.

He has rented a 3 bedroom apartment and promised to take me to his parents towards the end of the year. Long story short we planned to get married next year.

I trust him although i fear he might disappoint me as he is still struggling. But 3 weeks ago my people called me home from were i was doing my service to meet a man that has come for my hand in marriage. The man is handsome and wealthy but he is 16 years older than me and that alone makes me uncomfortable. Plus i dont really like him.

we seem not to have much in common, But my mum and my aunty have been begging me to marry him as we are sort of going through financial breakdown and they see him as a kind of saviour. Plus my mums pastor says he has seen the marriage in vision before now.

The marriage will be done in less than 4 months if i say yes, And if i say no then i will have to wait for my man till mid next year.

So i ask please will you consider your family and go into the marriage or wait for your love.
Gurl, you sink and swim with the man you love. When the hulabaloo (not sure of that spelling) is over, you ALONE will live with your misery. Take a decision that will make you happy and a decision that if you are unhappy thereafter, you can look back and tell yourself, 'it was my choice'. There is no guarantee that the rich man will remain rich or that your struggling boyfriend will not step up his game and start doing well, experiences abound along those lines. My views.

femi4: If your schedule is usually sent to your inbox. I guess your inbox should come first
My former MD said if you do not read your inbox first thing in the morning, you could be working for free as you could have been fired by close of work the previous day. I read my inbox first. Everything else follows.

Another personal tip that has worked for me is to drink a beer down the road after work and articulate the unfinished business of the day and then itemize the things i need to do upon resumption the next day, it hasnt failed as yet.

justokey: I agree she should face the law. But lawyers in the house please bail me out...Can she be tried with this new law since she committed the offence before the law was signed and gazatted?
The old law can be referenced into the new law and by 'savings' the new law will take over the provisions of the repealed law. What the law frowns at is to make a law operative in retrospect. In simple terms, YES, if i was the prosecution, i will contest vigorously that she can be tried on the new law, so long as teh transition is captured vides teh opeartion of 'savings'.

However, this is not to say that i agree with the facts of the case, i have never really been interested in reading the matter up. If her hands are not clean, let the law take its course. However, i find it difficult to sympathize with the LASTMA guy, those buf00ns should all be killed off.

shizzle11: Hmmmn, human beings and mindset, nawaooo!

@Dimples, swwetie, no offense pls, you jst turned 29 and still single, and the posts from the family section scares you from even 'thinking' marriage and you want to dedicated th rest of your life taking care of your ageing parents(as if those who are married don't happily do that). Do you intend to get kids (that is of course out of wedlock) cos u'll definately need one or two to take care of you when you start ageing. Just asking'o, and maybe a food for thought for some.
I opted not to contribute to this thread since i have my own opinion which is already fixated. However i did not know that the real reason why people have children, is, according to you to take care of them when they start aging. Honestly in my world, i had grown out of that mindset. My parents have enough investments not to bother about what i am able to do for them, and i am growing mine to ensure i do not rely on children to take care of me. Dude, I honestly agree with Dimples. Marraige provides nothing additional to our daily lives neither does it guarantee anything. We should learn to cut these sisters a slack. If they so choose to remain, so let it be, even your holy book that most of you will kill for (the bible, and btw i believe in it too) has not insisted on marriage, it only requires couples to have a single partner in marriage. There were several in bible times that never got married and it was not counted an error or offence for them. People should be able to do whatever makes them happy and forget about what society thinks, afterall when u get unhappy in marriage, same society will start bad mouthing you and saying you cannot keep a household. you are dummy. How much is N6m in savings? i do not know whether we got the exact number of years the guy had worked in the bank, but if you get into any good bank at a fairly senior level, let us even say from SBO/SBE, you can save up that much inside 2 years if you are careful with expenses. To add to that, if you do a few other things by the side (i do part time lecturing and i also prepare documents for people as a solicitor) you will even earn and save a lot more. You must be a kid believing that N6m is such a stupendous amount, SMH

Abali1: singing in my native language.... adighi eme ya n' ike....adighi eme ya n' ego.... Chi n' enye nwa, nwa bu onyinye Chukwu

The Irony of this is that, you see most of the very rich couples having only 2 or 3 or 4 kids and the very poor couples breeding as if they were competing in an olympreek (olympic) game.

I believe it is only one son in the qaudrplets, for that I say congratulation Ma. God has really granted your hearts desire.
This is a clear case of tempting nature... God in His infinite wisdom gave you 1,2,3,4,5 (I believe beautiful gals). But you were asking God to please EMBARASS you with more blessings. So why is she crying for help from the govt and the society.

On a serious note, women are mostly the architect of their woes... After 2 or 3 gals, why didn't the woman just give up. If hubby wanted to please himself so much with a male child, let him ADOPT. why risk your health and stretch your meagre finances just to please a Man who didn't even think of facing his fears/RESPONSIBILITIES, before absconding.
On Point.

Hope you won't go kiss, hug or grab your friends hubby as you "think" she aint doing it right ?

Could it be your "constant" presence that is stopping this couple from getting their groove on? Maybe you should just spend more time at your "own" home.

Politics › Re: Nonso-Maduakor Wrongfully Charged For Cynthia's Murder by hardbody: 4:27pm On Aug 29, 2012
Truth is, he might have no complicity in the sale to the people that killed cynthia, never the less, by selling to some other persons, and against the law (as it were, namely without a doctor's presciption) he has been caught on the wrong side of the law. It should be easy for a good lawyer to distinguish between the act of sales to a wrong person (which should be charged differently)and the sale by known (or unknown persons) to the killers of Cynthia.

The beautiful thing about criminal law and procedure is that the prosecution will have to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt while teh defendant only needs to throw spanners into the case of the prosecution. Applying this scenario in the extant case, the OP's friend only needs to raise doubts in teh mind of the court that he did not sell to the killers even if he sold to other persons thereafter. This will be achieved in the process of cross examination of the killers.

In summary, worry more about getting a good lawyer who may even in the first instance apply for his freedom on the basis of fundamental human rights and then prepare a good defence on the trial. If he is innocent, chances are that the odds will be more in his favour. I wish you both good luck and Godspeed.

footreja: @ All, don't let us deceive ourselves, onitsha has been an abode for criminal activities since God-knows-when. I was on my way to Enugu enroute Onitsha around 2003. I had a stop over at Onitsha, to relax and have a feel of the city. Immediately locals saw me, i saw strange movements and sensed danger. Off i continued on my journey. I later learnt how criminals attack strangers even in broad daylight. How i wish we could shun mud-slinging and deliberate on way out of these rampant crimes in the east. It's disgusting.
Ol boy u take risk ooo. I have a pact with my God never to step on that town called onitsha, I just drive through. It is so bad that if I am travelling by road in december, I stop at asaba, sleep over in a hotel and then drive through onitsha early in the morning. vislabraye: Nigerians are known to be notorious abroad.
I watched a documentary "Banged Up Abroad". Its a story about how foreigners get indicted for committing crimes in other countries.
There were three Americans who were caught for drug traffiking in Brazil and were sentenced to a maximum security prisons where you would dee hardened criminals. Guess what, Nigerians were there. They were very much at home in the cell running things.
To cut the long story short, these Nigerians were planning to escape and they did only to be caught later.

Ojukwu minced no words in dissociating himself from the contraption called Nigeria. I am certain if the dead were to be conscious of anything, he will not even have accepted the silly military right accorded him in death.
