Literature › Re: The Pain Of Pleasure - A Must Read For Every Lady And Her Boyfriend. by hardbody: 3:56pm On Aug 07, 2012
mute4real: What I want to share with us today is about the pain of pleasure. We live in a world today where we are literally killing ourselves with pleasure. We are dying everyday, not out of pain as we define it, but out of pleasure. And nobody seems to be saying anything about it. We are amusing ourselves to death and nobody really cares. Stella Damascus, the Nollywood actress, shared in her column in about how a friend of hers was mad at her because when her(the friend’s) kids wanted to watch TV the only channel that the decoder was locked on Nickelodeon and the kids wanted one of the “more interesting” channels like Ben Ten where some real violence take place.

Today, entire families sit in front of the television box and are ingesting pleasure capsules hour after hour not realizing that they are dying. May I suggest to you that just like any other thing in this life, pleasure can be addictive? And the addictive nature of pleasure brings about negative repercussions. I don’t have to be a genius to know that unless urgent measures are taken to fight this addiction we are going to keep seeing an increase in divorce rates as families become mere acquaintances of one another. And an increase in divorce rates will lead to an increase in fatherless and motherless homes, which leads to half-prepared children sent out to face the pressure of society, which leads to these kids growing up to be men and women who are not responsible enough to be fathers and mothers themselves but have the tools between their legs to make them have babies. So, when they have kids they abandon them. They never knew what it is like to have a father or a mother so they have no idea how to be one, themselves.

Besides the long term effect of the addictive nature of pleasure like just narrated in the preceding paragraph. I also see that one of the more immediate effects of the pain of pleasure is the reluctance to learn. I see a dearth of knowledge all around. All that is on the minds of recent graduates now is how he or she can get his or her own Blackberry. I hear the cost of a new Blackberry today begins at N20,000 ($130). I even hear that the cost of some go for as high as over N100,000 ($660). Is that true? And when I turn to have a decent conversation with one of these young and beautiful ladies brandishing their Blackberrys all around, I get the shock of my life that all there is is a Brazilian hair and an empty brain. Except for the well developed part of the brain used in pinging.

I and a friend in Benin run what is commonly called a Business Center. Nothing much, just a few copiers, about 10 computers, 2 printers, a scanner, two good digital cameras for passport photographs, etc. You get the drift. He manages the day to day running of the business, since I reside in Lagos. But once a year I go to Benin and spend a couple of weeks there. And whenever I am in Benin, I usually spend some time with him at the shop. In my last but one visit to Benin, I was at the shop with him when a beautiful young lady in her NYSC Khaki pants came in. She needed to work on her CV. The two employees we have working for us are just Senior School Certificate holders, so we just pointed to one of the computer systems for her to use by herself. To my utter disdain she knew nothing about Microsoft Word. Maybe she is only used to Excel, but I doubt that too. It was one of our employees that ended up working on the CV for her. But she had in her hands one of the higher classes of Blackberry. Of course the lower classes are for guys.

I worship in a church where there are over 20,000 regular members. My church seats over 5,000 people per service and holds 4 services every Sunday. And this number does not include children who have a different building. It’s one of the new generation churches. Once in a while corporate trainings are held so members can develop themselves. These trainings are not free but very cheap. As low as N7,000. There was even one that was for N2,500, but the training materials was like N5,000 which was optional. One would expect that for a new generation church where everything from religion to business is being taught there will be a mad rush for such trainings. You will be surprised to know that for some of these trainings only 700 people participate out of over 20,000 members. And these are trainings that go for as high as N100,000 in the corporate world. But why should I spend N5,000 for a training when I can get some good time with my babe in a fast food restaurant with some cups of ice cream?

I advice the young ladies, I am focusing on you because you are at the frontline of the receiving end of the ills of the society. I advice the young ladies, there is more to life than “my boyfriend dresses well and smells good. Hmm! I am so in love with him.” It’s high time you started asking the right questions. How much of his budget does he invest on Personal Development? How many books did he buy in the last six months? How many has he read? What did he learn? When was the last time he spent his own money, not the company’s, to attend a training session for himself. You need to have an answer for these questions because perfumes never made any marriage work. Any marriage where the woman has a flare for personal development and the man does not, can never be a happy one. Just listen to one episode of Real Life issues aired on Inspiration FM 92.3 in Lagos if you doubt me.

If you, referring to the young ladies, would follow through on the advice given on the previous paragraph, I promise you, many of you will be shocked to discover that that guy you’ve been kissing for more than a year now, has not bought a single book in the last one year. That means all he knows now is still the same things he knew like 3 or 5 yrs ago. Except maybe that Jonathan did not have any shoes. I have met guys who never bought a book in the last 5yrs but never failed to renew their DSTV subscription. And when you are the type that wants to spend your Saturdays attending seminars and your husband sits at home to watch football, then trouble is brewing. Why not nip it in the bud now? It may hurt but you will be saving yourself a lifetime of pain.

From my personal projections based on the number of people that have enrolled for the April session of School for Personal Leadership, for the first time in three sessions ladies will outnumber guys by a long pole. And this is a trend that is beginning to show all over the world, especially among the black race. In the United States today, the ratio of educated black girls to guys in the corporate world is about 3:1. There are not enough good guys to go around anymore so sex is now being used as a weapon to keep the few good black guys. The crave for pleasure in the Rap industry is causing a lot of young black brothers to drop out of schools while those ladies in bra and G-strings dancing in the music videos are attending night classes to further their education.

Am I going to continue to see this kind of trend in the School for Personal Leadership that current projection is indicating? More ladies interested in Personal Development than guys? Are guys only interested in buying Blackberrys for the ladies so they can at least get some sex in exchange for it? But I want us all to have a rethink. The problem with the world today is not just pain as we know it. It is pleasure. The pain of pleasure is far worse than any other kind of pain you can think of.

I want to encourage you. If you are the type that has never seen the need to invest in Personal Development, begin with School for Personal Leadership. It holds right on Facebook, completely flexible, you go into the online classroom when it is most convenient for you. You get to meet people from different fields, different states of the nation, and residing in different countries. It is awesome. Come spend some time with other people who have a desire to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others. Come and learn principles that will change your life forever. All you have to do is to first add me as friend on facebook then send a text in the following format, WSPL*SURNAME*FIRST NAME*SEX*STATE OF RESIDENCE (If in Nigeria) or COUNTRY (If outside Nigeria)*EMAIL ADDRESS*PHONE NUMBER to +234-803-874-9796. Lilliputians like you are always making the decent 'diasporans' appear as if people back home are disparaging them. What happened to all those Tenancy Laws of Lagos State et al? I look at this fooolery and smh. It is just a passing phase, a few scape goats will be made to suffer, the LASTMA guys will go back to their old ways of extortionism and life goes on. Quote me when we get there.
only illiterates do so . . if u really understand how an ATM works, then you would be wasting ur energy counting,
the machine has a sensor that pushes each bill into the dispatch tray, one bill at a time
another infra-red sensor scans each bill for thickness. this means if two bills are stuck together, it would not come out
rather it would pass into a reject bin. any bill that is badly torn is also passed into the reject bin
it does this so perfectly, it could never go wrong.
the only mistake an ATM could do, is debiting your account without paying
and it's not the machine's fault. it's caused by a timeout in network while transmitting banking messages from the machine to the relay server.
Apart from the fact that you are dead on point, what argument will you present in a case between you and an inanimate machine as to what happened if u claim ur cash wasn't complete? It will simply be assumed that you are trying to make false claims and defraud the system. Besides, if a single case is allowed to pass as incomplete collection, it will open a floodgate of spurious claims by all and sundry. On grounds of public policy, I do not think any bank will entertain any claims of incomplete payout, and if were to be daft enough to sue, I bet you that the courts will throw your case out on grounds of public policy. IMO

This to me is just a way of enlarging extortion. When they first came up with the renewed tinted glass laws, while some vehicles were exempted at law, the overzealous enforcers applied all manners of illegality to extort bc they perhaps did not even understand the law. Today how do you define eating, would chewing gums qualify? Those guys will arrest and detain you for soliloquizing, they will say you were speaking into a phone somewhere, it's such a crazy society.what I recommend to all which is what I have done is to acquire driving licenses from several quarters, if u hold unto one, I leave it for you and drive off, a police report indicating it was stolen amongst other things at gun point, will restrict them from ever using it against me. It has worked thus far, they will collect and retain and I will carry on with my life. Fortunately we have not gotten to the point where their database can pick out from the crowd, it's so disorienting that a SAN in the class of Fashola is not considering the spirit of the law but trusting on hooligans and touts to enforce laws that have not been subjected to the tests of workability.
Culture › Re: What Is Culture To You? How Do You Define It? by hardbody: 4:44pm On Aug 03, 2012
Culture are those cummulative factors that stand me and those of my ilk apart from others who do not share the same perceptions. Those factors were shaped from time immemorial by our forbears and passed on either by oral tradition or participant observation. In definitive terms culture sets people apart from others and covers the whole gamut of how we think, what we believe, our practises and beliefs.

The truth is a vast majority of the storey buildings in the island particularly that ghetto around adeniji adele and environs are sub standard. the builders cum owners are carrying out quickly built houses with no proper super structure to contain the structure being put up. It is only a matter of time sometimes less than 2 years and the deadly contraption will collapse. Me i will never advise anyperson, even my enemy, to take up accommodation in any of those areas, God forbid bad thing. Greed, Greed, Greed. Some of those houses collapse long before completion and teh saddest part is that no body does anything at the end of it all. by the time people get prosecuted and imprisoned for endangering other people's lives, perhaps we will start curtailing all these rubbish

captalex: Very nice suggestion man.May We not experience this sad event.

On Sunday at around 8:30 pm at around ojodu-berger market road,I was pulled over and extorted by a lastma and police officer for taking "one way".I took the same road in the afternoon when I went to shop for vegetables but these miscreants weren't there.this is the first time such an event has happened to me.the lastma guy just jumped infront of my car causing me stop immediately and the policeman came to the passenger side of my window and said I should turn my engine off and go and speak to the lastma.I wanted to 'floor it' but I was stuck in a busy market at night packed with okada left and right and people walking around,so I hesitated.as I got out to explain that the road isn't a 'one-way' that I took the same road in the afternoon without anyone pointing out that it was a 'one way' road the policeman snatched my car keys from my hand and proceeded to my driver's seat. I was helpless as my little brother was sitting next to me I decided not to do anything that would jeopardize our safety,I just told them that I was a corper and that the vehicle belonged to my uncle so they should free me.I immediately called my uncle and he suggested I give them any small amount I had,I grudgingly pulled out a tattered 1000 naira note and handed the bastards.before I could say yay, they lept out of the car and gave me my key.

Could anyone give hints on what actions to take when confronted with these kind of evil/greedy people in very tight situations.

NB: I know 1000 was too much to give the pricks but it was the 'wrinklest' note I could lay my hands on at the time.
I stay in that neighbourhood. My secret is simple, i drive like a madman when i am going home at past 10pm daily (anyways i am always partially mad because i come out straight from the club on Ikoyi and hit the road). They now know my movement and as soon as i am approaching and blasting my horn, you can hear them shouting in Yoruba, Were lelei oo(i think it means this one na mad man) but it has worked for more than 3 years
Travel › Re: Tips To Avoid Getting Robbed On The Highway While Traveling by hardbody: 5:49pm On Aug 01, 2012
My few solutions are :

1. Once i go past berger en route the eastern parts, the least i do is 140km/hr, at that speed or more, it takes a rocket launcher to get at me
2. I carry a fake BB fone (this old chinkos) and i will gladly surrender that
3. I keep my bulk cash safe in different hidden spots in the car and i hold about N7 to N10k handy with my ATM card. It worked when i stopped just before Benin and some guys appeared from no where. I was driving with my mum and i couldn't refuse her the call of nature. I surrendered the N7k, told them i was planning to do ATM inside the town and offered my dummy of a fone. They asked me never to stop there again. They did not bother to search the car or even my person, i had more than N100k in various parts of the car.
4. The only way i stop matching the gas pedal is if a bullet hits me

Most of the roads have been covered. If you stay anyway around omole, entering your first turn right from berger is a two way thing anytime, but coming out same route from oremeta junction further down is one way as from 2pm everyday. policemen make their breakfast and lunch money from there everyday. I dont know about how it works for others, as for me, i see it as a necessity so i dont think twice about it, i just pay. I recall even a time i invited this lady out for a swim, we both drove and met at the pool, after the swimming, we needed to have lunch so we drove in her car to go and find a decent place to eat, when we got back to the pool car park, i had to still give her some money to replinish her fuel (as if she would not have bought it herself). I guess it just comes naturally to men, simple. it has nothing to do with the status of the receiver. IMO

Those laws are not put in place for folks like me. I hit the road while LASTMEN are still snoring in bed, or on the floor. I beat all the traffic lights and rules, smoke till i get to the office, park and nap. Work till LASTMEN are tired and back on their hard cold floors to sleep, i drive through the club, drink heavily, break all the traffic rules en route home and repeat the same steps next day. I no send their papa.

As a rule, i dont go out on weekends, i drink around my hood and host pals in my neighbourhood. If i ever have to drive to teh pool or club, tehre is always a pal that will be willing to use his car.

Why would any person even say i should not snoke in my car when it is not a passenger vehicle and does not come within the purview of a 'public place' within the that definition in the criminal law books. I think i will challenge this law sef in the Courts. God punish LASTMA (LASTMEN) and their Governor. Are those the real issues that we are facing presently? Talk about priorities.

dmainboss: The only part of the road that is bad and is currently being fixed is about 1 or 2 kilometers around Ofosu, after Ore if you are coming from Lagos. No other place is bad enough to require lane change. Just light potholes from time to time around the Ondo axis. Sometimes these drivers just act like they are on drugs. You have to shout on them sometimes.

A lot of the blame goes to the passengers. Nigerian passengers don't complain. They even encourage the drivers to break trafffic rules. If the driver refuses, they will say he is dull.
We are in sync on this. I have personally driven through that road twice, it's becoming increasingly difficult to see any part of that stretch that is not good. In april, I left Lagos at about 5am and had crossed onitsha head bridge by 10am,the road was smooth and the police were not there. So hold the drivers and silent passengers responsible
