PoliticsFashola: Lagos Achieved 89% Budget Performance In 2012 by Hardfact(op):
Against all economic challenges of the year 2012, the LagosState Government , weekend, announced a full year budget performance of 89 percent for the 2012 Budget, the highest since the inception of the present administration in 2007.
The state governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), announced this while speaking with newsmen after the first session of the three-day Executive Council/Permanent Secretaries retreat being held at the Orchid Hotels and Events Centre, Lekki with the theme, ‘’Enhancing Effective and Efficient Service Delivery in Lagos State.’’
Expressing the readiness of his team to perform even better in the 2013 budget year, Fashola, however, appealed for voluntary payment of tax by all taxable citizens of the state, saying it is the only tool with which government can work effectively.
“It is no longer the capacity to perform. We have demonstrated that the more money we have the more performance of the budget and the more impact it will make on the lives of our people. So this is justan appeal now for people to voluntarily pay their taxes. That is the tool of government. If you give us the tool, we will deliver”, Fashola said.
Fashola, who said the improvement was the fulfillment of the promise he made during the third budget review to do better in the fourth quarter, attributed the increase in performance to availability of resources and hard work.
“You’ll recall that at the third quarter briefing, I indicated that we had a quarterly performance of 65 percent, that was down from the second quarter of 84percent and I promised that we were going to work harder in the fourth quarter. I believe we have done just that.
“Standing on its own,we have achieved a 143 percent performance in the fourth quarter”, the governor said, adding, “So, what we have cumulatively as performance for the 2012 is a budget performance of 89 percent, the highest we have ever done since we started in 2007”

DaLover: So the port in lagos was the sole reason that Lagos is what it is abi?
Is lagos port better than those of Accra, Lome doula or Cotonou? The answer is no
So why is Lagos many times bigger than those cities, rubber, palm oil and crude oil, from the delta...

You claim the Niger delta need your ports to export their goods? Maybe for palm and rubber, which the British must have made possible but not crude oil, it is stated clearly in the Wikipedia link I sent you that lagos experienced rapid growth with the oil boom(or is that a British lie too),

If you still stick to ur argument that the port is the main reason for the development of Lagos, what is the main reason for the development of Abuja?
Bros, aribisala0 has got a lot of truth in what in he's saying, unlike what the likes of Eko ile are claiming. The location of Lagos which is strategic was one of the major/primary catalysts, and upon it the colonial masters kickstarted Lagos' success, other factors like Fed Cap status later came and added to that. That's not hard to see.

Mikuz & Mynd_44, I think it'll make more sense and make this section look more organised if the threads for new singles being released by artistes are gathered into one subsection rather than have them litter the music section firstpage. Peeps can easily look into one place and see all new tracks.
Music/RadioRe: The Place Of Piracy In The Nigerian Music Industry? by Hardfact:
Eze Promoe: Nigerian artistes aren't complaining, so the people. Nigeria is a lawless country like we all know, and putting such law wouldn't walk at all. But yet Nigerian artiste are still making money despite all these. Another thing is that as a new artiste, you don't expect your album to start selling without you brought to the limelight, which internet, radio and television is one of them. I can't see myself wasting kudi to buy music every now and then and I believe million of Nigerians are like that.
Who told you they arent complaining?

And, while the Showmen continue to do their thing, Gov Fash should please find a way to go complete those projects, mostly roads started since 2008 , abandoned till date in some areas of Lagos. (They consistently speak ill of him)

babapupa: Lagos is what it is because of federal government? na joke? how did they do it? by slowing us down like denying our first metro rail attempt decades ago.? By leaving their infrastructures in Lagos in shambles and rotten that we have to spend 50 billion of our own money to take care of their responsibility?

Eko Ile: Like I keep telling all the misguided people talking about oil money. Oil money is not everything and you can not substitute good and visionary leadership with some yeye oil money. Where are all the some called oil states with their derivations and huge oil budgets? Den receive oil money and the fist thing to do is to go shop for Jets and scam their people with phoney e library.

It's all about leadership.
Hmm!

Paul John: Good to see development reaching ikorodu, people of the place have been left out of Lagos development for years.
Noticed the huge road extension(I guess six lane), bridges been built with excellent quality from mile12 to Ikorodu, it's impressive I must say.
The construction of the 4th mainland bridge(hoping) from Island through Lagos Lagoon down to Ikorodu will seal the prosperity of that area.

Wish the govt. in care of Ishagamu(Ogun)-Ikorodu(Lagos) road can as well be smart to see the significance of that road in building the economy of the states involved.
Hope he wont cap it up with tolls as being speculated in some quarters. huh

PoliticsRe: Only Lagos Can Survive Without Oil – Fashola by Hardfact:
Funny all this lingering argument for and against. Simple fact is that was a fatally careless and most unguarded statement for the once envied and respected Gov Fashola of all to make.
Again it's really funny how some peeps brag Lagos got this far all just by itself, forgetting the undue advantage of both the colonial era, lopesided Federal influences, and then cummulative/multiple effects of those and other factors. . .
Let the governor continue toeing his current path and watchful eyes shall see where that would lead.
Only change is constant, . . . .only time will tell.

Akanbi_edu: The governor should be more circumspect in his utterances. People are emotional and those things matter more to them than performance in office. people naturally feel threatened by performers and may likely start looking for faults. El-rufai is better remembered for his arrogance than his good works in Abuja. Buhari is better remembered for his religion than his good works. Awolowo was equally called arrogant.....
Think this should be summary of the matter.

PoliticsRe: Only Lagos Can Survive Without Oil – Fashola by Hardfact: 10:36pm On Jan 18, 2013
Afam4eva: We can argue from now till Jesus comes. But the truth remains that the oil industry which is our mainstay services everything you see today. take away oil and many industries will collapse and the ones that will remain will be fighting for their survival.

I also wish the FG will allow for resource control and let's see how things will go down. With resource control, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta state will witness a mass exodus. The population will double in a very short time. The power of oil is out of this world. Go to the UAE and see what they're using oil to do over there.
Critical factor! Those who mean 'well' will never allow.

Some don't even know that Cotonou is triving without oil.
They also forgot that Lagos is sacrificing her natural resources(crude oil) for commerce.

Demdem: Nop, that wasnt it. It wont be proper if oil producing states are allowed to control their resources while other states arent. Control ur oil and let us also control the ports. Control ur gas and of cos let us control our minerals and we all will give whatever have been determined to the FG at the center. Are u even aware that states that have natural minerals cant even mine their resources and export for funds without FG direction? what is good for the goose is also good for the gender. PoliticsRe: Only Lagos Can Survive Without Oil – Fashola by Hardfact: 8:12pm On Jan 18, 2013
aribisala0: The British were in Bonny,Opobo,Buguma and Lagos and elsewhere in the coastal regions of what was to become Nigeria 111 years ago they chose to Build a bridge,Carter Bridge which is still there now. They did not build similar bridges elsewhere or designate any of these places Colony of Buguma or of Bonny etc and we are being told this was because of their "whims".
I don't agree.I do not argue that it was because of any special nous or talent of the people of Lagos either. They were lucky to be in the right place but if the British were to trade,as was their aim with the hinterland of Yorubaland, all the way up North in that part of the country they HAD no choice and so they invested heavily in Lagos building Ikoyi where they chose to live building the port at Apapa and a railline which ended at Iddo from Kano to boost their access to the North.

This Lagos ,this Colony of Lagos is not the same thing as Lagos State today which was created in 1967. We must distinguish the two. Lagos State as we know it now comprises Colony of Lagos and some parts of the Western Region e.g Mushin,Oshodi,Agege,Ikorodu etc. After Lagos was created Ikeja was its capital and The old colony Area remained as national Capital.

Lagos STate was not and never was the capital of Nigeria

Therefore when using the word "Lagos" it is important to to mix the two as they are distinct and there were rural communities in the state that did not have electricity when Obasajo came to power in 1999 and perhaps till this day.

This bridge below was built before 1914 when Nigeria was merged. Is it sensible to expect that there will not be significant progress after 100 years. Many places in Nigeria have no such bridge TODAY.How can we expect the two to be the same huh
. . .Hard fact!
