thelastPope: I thought they said this man is intelligent. He just keeps blowing it! Without oil, lagos will be like Ekiti state. 75% of businesses in lagos are directly or indirectly dependent on the oil industry. Where will he get the tax from? Without oil, over 60% of Lagos population will return to states to farm. Where will he get the revenue from? He just doesn't get it. The whole structure and business flow of Nigeria will change without oil. States like Delta, Akwa ibom, Cross rivers, Rivers will be forced to fully utilize their ports. He just doesn't realise that the real beneficiaries of nigeria's oil are Lagos and Abuja. The ND state just started collecting 13% a few years back. Lagos has been benefitting since the 60s. Festac town was built entirely with oil money.Well, as you can see thus far, sometimes, when breeze blow, fowl nyash go . . . . |
Eko Ile: Stating facts and exuberance are two different things/ As things stands right now, Lagos state can do without federal allocation regardless of all the doom and gloom scenarios you are peddling. Lagos IGR and GDP success story didn't come from any other reason but the fact that they have good and capable leadersError! Error! Error! Error! . . . Error! Error! Error! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Error! Error! Error! . . . . . . . . . . . . |
Only Lagos, Yes Lagos! Lagos!! - ONLY FASHOLA'S LAGOS CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT OVER-TAXATION AND DRACONIAN ELITIST LAWS AND POLICIES . . . ! Ride on Mr "Action" Governor. |
Nigerian Govt, . . .more you look, . . .less you see. |

Recall "no place like home"? SWISS IS LIKE HOME TO STOLEN MONEY. There it is kept safe for the thief. |
It's like only in Northern Nigeria that religion is do or die. Why? |
Likes of Bakare seem to have the clout and voice to speak out. If you are among the poor . . . |
watchinglagos: Some days ago we posted pictures the fixing of Navy town road in Oriade LCDA by LPWC, however the drainage along that same road whose blockage leads to flooding that damages the road, is poorly managed. Days ago the drainage was cleared but left beside the road, when it rains everything that was cleared is the washed back into it making it an effort in futility. That is Nigeria for you. The most basic of things are the most difficult to implement/achieve. In a country that more than has the capacity to get these little done, it continues to look like there's no govt in the first place. Doesnt it baffle you govt has more zeal to plant flowers everywhere than to ensure gutters are free, and numerous potholes on major roads disappear pending whenever they are ready to do full repair. Govt pays good attention to details and are very thorough with things like tax, and people-strangulating laws, but feign ignorance and will rather do a shoddy job when it comes to projects that will benefit the ordinary people. As we speak there are a good number of projects that started since 2008 by same govt, yet to be completed today. Realities on ground are usually worse than what they tell the media. |
lonamy: Nigeria is in a perpetual war zone, just that it is not on a full blown scale. Corruption, no light, bad roads, MEND, Boko haram, OPC, Egbesu boys, mention all militant groups. The uncontrolled killing by the police and army. Especially, when armed force men realised that you are IBO man, the next thing is to kill.No be small thing. |
Aloodunayo: Meanwhile the successful artists are just sitting up there, doin nothing about itBros, that's the Nigerian situation. Those who have made it tend to relax. Not like they've not tried at all, but not enough yet. Besides, govt doesnt give a damn. As the artist sells his, the pirates sell theirs alongside and make their own money too. Tho if your music is not yet a hit, it may not get their attention. |
Truckpusher: If you know how much these polithiefcians plans to loot in the coming yrs then you wouldn't be talking abt war....nobody is going to war as long as the oil keeps flowing from the creeks and hinterland of the Niger Delta.TruckPusher, nay TruthPreacher, Critical Points there. |
Pure rubbish! They must get their 'facts' right: The poor man on the street aint feeling no improvement whatsoever! |
NEPA/PHCN in recent times is another Classic Fraud! Since the last tariff change, they abitrarily charge whatever they like, esp as they know they'll soon be sacked. Unfortunately, people choose to follow em like sheep to slaughter. Imagine 600% effective PHCN Tarriff increase since last year when official gov figures suggest less than 100% hike? |

Fhemmmy: Nice one, cos the time is coming that the masses wont be able to take it anymore . . . They steal our money and use the money to oppress the masses, that is total insultTrue. But sadly enough the vast majority of Nigerians are anything but enlightened enough to improve their lot. They'd rather engage in tribal sentiments like here on NL, and get busy chasing crumbs fallen from the table than strive to awaken their leaders. Any surprise even the nonperforming leaders are constantly being showered with praises and encouraged to keep up their 'good work'. . . |
pato station: Baba Iyabo go talk up today; tomorrow e go begin talk another thing. E go drink garri today, tomorrow e go chop cassava bread. Next time e dey dance yahooooze. Which one Baba dey sef?Whether na old age? ![]() |

IYA NGBALI: they should pls stop praying, enough of this yeye things in our countryBut seriously, prayer will cause us no harm. Won't it? |
Judinho59: Yea.. Bt they are Countable! My bro, we wont use the heartlessness of wicked groups like Bokoharam to judge/ignore those peace-craving and loving muslims who pursue peace like the average christian. Will we? |
. . . I know how wicked they can be! As our soldiers prepare for Mali, for God's and devil's sake, the rogues, yes I mean the ROGUES IN GOVT should please ensure they pay the soldiers all their monies/allowances when it is time. |
@Mikeuz, bros no long thing. That's "Nigeria" for you! Massacre? Remember the historic/unequalled FG-supervised massacre, pogrom or genocide of 1966; the well-sponsored incessant Jos killings of today; the well-funded dreaded Islamic Bokoharam weekly doses of bloodbath; the post Abiola election victory protest FG-enforced mass killings; many more people are dying everyday in the hands of our police, just you name it . . . All symptoms of a progressive united 'one' Nigeria. Sometimes you cant but just wonder where exactly it is we are heading as a nation . . . Your heart may continue to bleed if your loved one has ever been directly involved. Saint Obasanjo has been talking around peace and security, of recent and nobody knows exactly what it is he is really up to. |
obi4eze: There'll be no civil war in Nigeria. There are genuine Christians that pray for this country night and day.. . .and genuine muslims I must add who genuinely mean well and pray for the good of the country as well. |
By the way, the way these top people, esp Baba Obj of recent, keep directly/indirectly refering to Nigeria breaking up, (dis)unity, another civil war and so on could it be in anyway indicative of anything fishy which they could be aware of in their circles? |
Akshow: No doubt about that wit the way things are going. If i should jand out of this country till thy kingdom come. And yeah....screw anybody that dares to oppose my stand.Bros, u wan come run comot for your papa country? Remember, home they say, is the best. |
Baba has spoken!! |
…As Uduaghan promises job opportunities to ex-servicemen FORMER President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Tuesday, cautioned Nigerian leaders against acts that could lead to anothercivil war , even as he shunned the request by Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, to lay a wreath at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abeokuta. Obasanjo who spoke on the occasion for fallen heroes at Arcade ground in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State, said Nigerians should learn from history. He urged government at all levels to remember the families of the slain soldiers. Lamenting the loss of many security personnel during civil and international wars, he said Nigerian leaders should ensure that what led to the previous wars did not reccur. According to Obasanjo, “war is not a picnic. When you engage in wars, lives are bound to be lost. That is why, as much as possible, wars should be avoided. For us in Nigeria, even when we were fighting against the colonial power, we lost Nigerians in Burma, in East Africa. But since the days of the constabulary, because that is where the Nigerian Army started from, Nigerian security forces have been losing lives either in support of civil authority or in fighting local wars. Constant reminders ”The aim of this celebration is to constantly remember the sacrifice that the fallen heroes have made. It is also to constantly remind usthat they left familiesbehind who need to be catered for” Meanwhile, there wasa mild drama at the armed forces Remembrance Day ceremony when former President Obasanjo shunned the request by governor Amosun to lay a wreath. When Obasanjo’s name was mentioned as part of the dignitaries to lay the wreath, the former President declined despite pleas by thegovernor. The programme was put on hold as many dignitaries including the Deputy governor, Segun Adesegun, the Iyalode of Egbaland, Alaba Lawson, pleaded with him to reconsider his stance. Vanguard gathered that Obasanjo’s anger was because his name was not in the brochure as partof those that would lay the wreath. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/01/obj-warns-against-another-civil-war/ |
That character Sanusi, always wanting to be in news for no sensible reason. Those who have hailed him in the past now know better. While reactions keep pouring in he should please remember to go see a qualified psychiatrist, just in case . . . . |
1121: This can happen to anybody, especially when u'r not familiar with such sound or not being preinformed of such action. Beside she is the minister of state 4 defence and not d defence minister. She is just meant to aid the main defence minister who has been sacked. GEJ now holds that potfolio of a defence minister while she aid/support him. I guess this is her first time of witnessing such occasion. This issue should not be overflogged as though is a strange matter. It would have been a big deal if it happened to chief of defence staff or if she was/is a force/military woman. A minister is just like an administrator of a ministry, who must not necesarily be well knowledgable abt the ministry's activity. Thats Y we have advisers and perm secWhichever way we look at it, from your submissions it's indicative of a big lacuna, one that is grave, unnecesary, and very much avoidable! |
thierylee: Do we really have to trust and/or use this host site,NAIRALAND?why is it that they tend to block out most of the post from good nigerian whenever they are commenting on delicate state issues from certain national news reports from their own website? Why the provision for comments when the webmaster wouldn't publish most of the minds of nigerian posting them?.what seems to be the problem? Is it that nairaland owners are hypocrits or that they are playing the same wing.Maybe they are afraid that they would incur the animosity of the government when they publish most of critical remarks from good nigerians(critics).Whatever the case maybe,i think nairaland does not deserve the trust of its subscribers(nigerians).I mean why do we waste our time to comment on a site about national issues when our voices will never be heard?Nigerians should please look into this matter because it seems that nairaland does not have the interest of nigerian at heart, but they are exclusively out to make money...that is if they'll publish this post at the first place.Noted. |
bobolekepee: Well, i'm not surprise, she is a minister not a combatantThat position was never meant for her type. Women Affairs, Youth and Culture, etc might do. |
