Politics › Re: Ooni Preaches Unity Among Yoruba Leaders For Yorubaland's Development by hercules07: 3:48pm On Nov 10, 2010
@Dapo

We had horses and had to love them because we took one hell of a beating from the fulanis on horseback. The funny thing about the fulani versus yorubas wars is that most of the intrepid generals in the fulani rank were yorubas, they were just afraid of the domination of the Alaafin, I think religion also played a role in their fighting against the Yorubas.
The Yorubas were better in close combat than when on horses, though we learnt sha, so yorubas join the infantry rather than armor corp, it is in your blood.

@tpia

Me I no understand the hmmmmnn o, do you care to explain?

As per the Omo Ibadan one, my grandfather was a staunch ally of Awolowo and ran for office under the AG in Ibadan, his children went to Ibadan Grammar school with the Wole Awolowo.

Please go and read your history, infact it is even relatively recent history (less than 200 years), the Modakekes were driving you guys into the bush because they were more experienced (having fought the fulanis) and in subsequent wars the Ibadans had their back. You guys have fought three or four times and each time they defeated you, the last one was a stalemate because the Ibadans were fighting the Ilorin hordes and the Ijebu/Egba alliance on two other fronts and you had formed an alliance with Ilorin and Ekiti Parapo dem, na God save una that the Ibadans were encumbered, you guys would have smelt pepper. I can not deny that the Ibadans were heavy handed but they had saved the whole yoruba nation from the Ilorin hordes, yet they were loyal to the Alaafin even when that one conspired against them because they were too powerful, they still respected him, let your Ooni learn from these ancient men. Please follow the link http://www.amazon.com/History-Yorubas-Samuel-Johnson/dp/978322929X buy the book, read, learn and weep. The book is by an eye witness o, infact the original author was part of the delegation that settled the Civil war.

We should do away with these traditional rulers, they are nothing but leeches on the common man jare. As per Modakeke, they were not servants, they moved to Ife when they had an Ooni that really loved them, seeing as they were subjects of his overlord, he gave them land and so many other things and they reciprocated the love, when he died, the new Ooni did not like them at all and made sure he fought them, the Modakeke dealt with him and his people (fighting fulanis no be beans na) and drove the Ifes into the bush, they later had a rethink amongst themselves saying they can not drive away the owners of the land, this happened twice more, the last war that was fought saw the coming of the white man; the Modakekes were asked by the white man who had intervened to move from where they had settled to a settlement far away in order for peace to return, they refused initially but the Ibadans prevailed on them to move (the ibadans were their defenders anyway) and they did. The present settlement of the Modakekes is not where they were initially.

Just search for a book titled the history of the yorubas, also, check out the books written by all those missionaries that came to Western Nigeria, you can also look out for the treaties signed between the yorubas and England. Ask yourself why the Fulanis destroyed the original Oyo rather than Ife. The present Ooni is dividing Osun by imposing candidates on the people, his palace is now polling center and PDP primaries collation center, the last election was rigged in Ife as Oyinlola lost in ijesha land and the oyo speaking towns like oshogbo.
Politics › Re: Ooni Preaches Unity Among Yoruba Leaders For Yorubaland's Development by hercules07: 4:58am On Nov 10, 2010
Apparently you guys do not know authentic Yoruba history, Ife was sacked three times by the Modakekes who forgave Ife people each time, the British met the Ibadans fighting the Ifes in the late 19th Century.
The Basorun of Oyo had far more primacy than the Ooni, the Alaafin was the all in all and no silly Chief Priest could raise his voice to him, who born am? The Ibadans were the ones appointing the Ooni at a time.
When you call something a nonentity, that means it is not significant, check out the name on all the treaties signed with oyinbo in the 19th century, you will see Alaafin the king of Yoruba on it.
The present Ooni is the one scattering Osun state and you ask me to respect him?

The Ooni should do what is necessary by removing himself from existence, if not for Awolowo that gave his lineage prominence, the Ooni title is a nonentity in Yorubaland, ponkious man.

I disagree with you, what we need to do is vote for solid people at the local level (State and Local Government elections) and form alliances at the Federal level, I do not care if Nigeria is ruled by a Fulani, as long as my corner of the country has access to funds for development.

They do take life easier than people down south and I do not see how we can be united down south if the country should split into two.

If the North can embrace Education, tone down on the Religious wahala, they will probably prosper more than the South.

All these billions they are quoting in the papers, na so road dey that expensive to do? I believe these roads existed, it is just to give them a new cover. One question that bothers me about our roads in naija is why dont we mix the bitumen with granite like they do in England?

The doctors getting 100K as entry level is still okay for the economic situation we find ourselves, there are many needs that the government should take care of.

Let the man tell us what he wants to do and how he is going to do it with figures, we know the revenue that accrues to Lagos, let him tell us how he will use the revenue to change Lagos, he must give us figures ooooooooooooo, we are not dull people, if he can convince us with the figures we might start to take him serious ( he should also leave PDP)
Politics › Re: Gov. Babatunde Fashola Has Failed To Save The Lives Of Innocent Patients by hercules07: 6:32pm On Nov 04, 2010
Can someone please tell me how much the doctors are earning and how much they are asking for? We need to analyse their demands viz a viz what exists in the state, if a doctor is earning up to 200K entry level, then I think they do not have a case, in case they do not know, Nigeria is a poor country, everybody has to sacrifice a little.
Politics › Re: Nigeria’s Satellite Passes Global Mandatory Test by hercules07: 6:30pm On Nov 04, 2010
The satellite stuff will not crash any prices, SAT3, GLO1 and Main1 are the ones to crash prices, what is the total bandwidth that will be carried on the satellite sef, how many transponders do we have on it. The last one that got "missing" could not do much. We actually need satellites that will aid farmers, those are practical ones not all this communications stuff. The problem of communications in Nigeria now is distribution and not transmission, most of the providers have fiber rings around Nigeria including Nitel sef.

Beaf,

Please get hold of some of Sanusi's articles, Jarus can help you in this regard, I can disagree with some of his assertions as per the Yorubas, but I will always acknowledge a brilliant piece when I see one and Sanusi writes very good articles. The thing I like about his articles is he makes you see things in a different way, he makes you ask questions, that is the hallmark of a brilliant man, I wish he will go into teaching, I will definitely sign up for his classes.

What happens if other sections of the country do not feel the way you do and decide to vote for someone else, what will Ndigbo do? You guys better learn how to approach politics, you need to convince us to vote for you, if you present a good candidate now, people will vote for him, if there is a better candidate in 2015 that is not from the East, people should vote for him.
Politics › Re: What Is Your Opinion On Capitalism? by hercules07: 9:20am On Nov 02, 2010
Capitalism in its pure form is evil jare (Nigerian capitalism is just stealing) ask Russia, it needs a dose of Socialism for it to work. The western countries are not interested in free trade, they are interested in our raw materials while they continue to protect their own industries (Agriculture for instance), try exporting agricultural produce to Japan and see if it will not rot on the high seas.
Awolowo was a socialist and he was able to achieve a lot, Canada has a mix of both socialist and capitalist policies, we need to get the mix right, a difficult thing to do in naija especially with the kind of capitalists we have in naija (ibru, akingbola et al).
Politics › Re: Lagos Threatens To Replace Striking Doctors by hercules07: 8:57am On Oct 30, 2010
Can someone get the Salaries paid to these doctors so that we can compare it to what exists in the society ( minus politicians pay), if their pay ranks high, then they should go back to work, when it comes to ones profession, it should not be about money alone.
