Crime17 Chinesemen, 9 Local Traditional Chiefs Arrested For Illegal Mining In Nigeria by Honbright(op): 8:06am On May 04, 2020
By Tunde Olorungbotemi

17 Chinesemen, 9 locals, traditional chief arrested for illegal mining in Osun state, Nigeria, VAM News has learnt.

The Osun State Joint Task Force (JTF), recently inaugurated by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has apprehended 27 illegal miners, comprising 17 Chinese nationals and 10 locals, including a local traditional chief (Baale).

They were arrested following a coordinated sting operation around Ilesa and Ife axis of the State.

Speaking on the development, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Abdullahi Binuyo, noted that no responsible government will fold its arms and watch its land being degraded by unauthorised persons.

He noted that aside the economic leakages, the illegal miners had also polluted the Osun River with poisonous metals, thereby making it unsafe for human consumption and irrigation.

Binuyo was, however, quick to add that apart from ensuring that those arrested are prosecuted, they will also be made to pay compensation.

"As part of the government's economic reforms, solid mineral is a major sector we are looking to explore . For these reforms to work, it has become imperative on the reforms to stop illegal mining and step up enforcement activities. The result is what we are witnessing today.

"The people you see here neither have genuine mining licences nor are they registered with the government. What they claim to have is Exploration Licences, which does not allow them to mine, the way they are doing. So we will be prosecuting them and make them pay damages.

"Apart from flouting government's Covid-19 Order, by refusing to stay at home, they have created environmental disaster for us, by poisoning our River which is a major public health concern for us," Binuyo added.

Earlier, one of those arrested, May Zam, who was the only one that could speak passable English among the Chinese, disclosed that she was not aware they were engaged in illegal mining.

CelebritiesN150,000 COVID-19 Giveaway Charges: A Shame On Actress Eniola Badmus (photo) by Honbright(op): 5:22am On May 04, 2020
By Busy Brain, Jos

Most of the time, we blame government for almost everything. Of course, one must hold government accountable for adequate representation, for social amenities such as good roads, well equipped health centers, quality and free education for all, good water, security and stable power supply; most importantly, during this pandemic, government must live up to the task to elevate hunger by providing foodstuff and relief packages for the poor masses. I think no one should feel guilty or be blamed for demanding for good governance. It is our eligible right.

It is an undisputable fact that we have the right to hold government officials accountable but no one has the right to hurl abusive words or cast vituperations on any other person outside the government for not doing giveaway. That is why I can not for any reason abuse any 'senseless' celebrity who doesn't want to give it back to the society that made him or her. As a matter of fact, the sensible and generous ones have been doing their best to uplift the masses out of the murky water of corona hunger. Everyone knows the economic condition of the world and anyone outside the government who prefers to render helping hands to the poor masses should be appreciated, praised and acknowledged without any charges. But reverse is the case of our big madam in Yoruba movie industry called Eniola Badmus. I have never witnessed her kind of wickedness before in my life. Eniola Badmus charged someone one hundred and fifty thousand Naira ( #150, 000) before she can help to disburse five hundred thousand naira ( #500, 000) to 100 people as giveaway. This man tasked Eniola Badmus as a celebrity with thousands of followers to help him reach 100 people with five thousand naira each (#5, 000 ).

I think a sane and sensible celebrity should appreciate this kind gesture and encourage others to do more. Disgustingly, one would be marveled to read the conversations between Eniola Badmus and this young philanthropist.

Below is their leaked chats:

Philanthropist: Hi Senator Badosky. I want to sponsor your give away to give 100 people #5, 000 each because of this period

Eniola Badmus: Hello

Philanthropist: Hi, Good evening sister me

Eniola Badmus: How are you sir? Thank you for coming on my live video

Philantropist: Yes ma

Eniola Badmus: Please, am not ma

Philanthropist: Am not sir. Sorry about that

Eniola Badmus: Just address me as Eniola Badmus. Thank you for your sponsor. The Lord will bless you more

Philanthropist: OK. I will adress you like that

Eniola Badmus: You can send the money now.

Philanthropist: Send me your account details

Eniola Badmus : 0107572939. GTB

Philanthropist: Done. 'With a display of transfer details'

Eniola Badmus: I will be charging 150k for it sir.

Philanthropist: I just felt this lockdown is affecting people negatively because I know the number of people that call daily for money to the extent of people asking for #500

Eniola Badmus: I'm telling you, it is terrible

Philanthropist: It is a way of giving to people if you can give #5, 000 each to them.

Eniola Badmus: Do you want me to put your name as sponsor or you just want to be anonymous

Philanthropist: Which one is OK

Eniola Badmus: Anonymous is better or else people will start disturbing you.

What did you think ?

Philanthropist: A friend just said you can put my name. If they disturb me, I can only do what I can do and nothing more.

Eniola Badmus: I'm yet to get the 150k

Philanthropist: I just felt away of giving to people that are going through hard time this time around and look for someone in Nigeria that I can get to them through that means. I never knew there is a charge for affecting my people. I don't have any other money for this purpose.

Philanthropist: We can stand down on it

Philanthropist: It is not necessary. Sorry

Philanthropist: You can transfer back to my account.

Meanwhile, Eniola posted a brilliant excuse to defend herself for charging the man #150k.

Read her excuse below in quotation:

"I woke up to this and I thought it will be nice to give clarity and clear the air on it"

"This particular person indicated interest to do a 500 hundred thousand naira giveaway and I felt there will be exra cost for bank charges and stamp duty which I wasn't going to bare the transfer charges for that. So I asks he bares it"

HealthOlowu Pleads For Fg's Assistance To Tackle COVID-19 In Osun by Honbright(op): 4:58pm On May 01, 2020
....As Wife distributes relief materials to Osun Residents

By Bright Olorungbotemi, Osun

A traditional ruler, Olowu of Kuta, HRH Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun iii, has expressed happiness at the commitment from President Muhammadu Buhari and the Presidential Task Force for being pro-active to curtail the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus, VAM News reports.

In a public statement made available to the press in his palace during the opening of "Olori Fatima Adeola makama Oyelude 2nd Community Empowerment Initiatives"said the effort of the federal government has paid off as the Covid-19 lockdown has really worked and now that it’s being eased.

Olowu raise concern about caution and Critical appraisal of Situations before total Resumption of Activities, lives should be Above Economic Consideration and social activity that has being in limbo in the last 40 days.

In his appreciation message to the federal government for the 1,800 bags of rice sent to Osun state, the revered monarch however urged the PTF to do more in term of financial assistance such as was rendered to Lagos, Ogun and the FCT in the wake of the pandemic.

Olowu, who had earlier sought the assistance of the federal government immediately after the index case and the Ejigbo returnees from Abidjan increased phenomenal the number of people with Coronavirus in the state, said such gesture is predicated on the fact that Osun is not financially buoyant before the COVID-19 which has further put more pressure on the lean resources of the state.

He said “I think the federal government has done so well in curtailing the COVID-19 and we must commend them. Even those who had predicted doom for Africa based on the way the rampaging COVID-19 humbled some of the developed world with better healthcare infrastructure cannot but commend the Buhari led government for its comportment which has led to the reduction in fatality recorded since February 27 when the index case was detected.

“State like Osun deserves financial assistance to augment its lean financial resources in order for the state government not to grind to a halt. The federal government can also grant debt relief or moratorium for Osun state so as to be on sound footing post COVID-19.” Olowu said.

He, however, commiserated with President Buhari over the death of his chief of staff, Malam Abba Kyari and other Nigerians who have lost loved ones to the COVID-19.

While speaking on the project, Olowu, has also announced that the 2nd Edition of Olori Fatima Adeola makama oyelude annual empowerment program is being flag off today Friday with emphasis on COVID-19 palliatives to support the government as his modest contribution to the well being of Our people during this trying time.

He further explained that vulnerable people such as widows, orphans, less privileged, and poor of poorest in Owu Kuta will be given foodstuffs and various sum of cash to augment their feeding.

“This is our little way of giving back to the society as a royal father and to support our governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola who is doing a good job towards improving the wellbeing of our people.” Olowu added.

Our correspondent gathered that the distribution of relief materials to concerned aged citizens and youths was a huge success while social distancing was highly observed.

HealthSuspected COVID-19 Patient Dies At Ondo Hospital by Honbright(op): 2:32pm On Apr 28, 2020
THE Government’s hospital, Ipe Akoko, Ondo state has recorded a suspected Coronavirus related death, VAM News has learnt.

According to SUNSHINETRUTH, the suspected COVID-19 patient was first admitted at State Specialist Hospital (SSH), Ikare before he was transferred to less equipped General Hospital, Oka and later moved to General Hospital Ipe.

Report confirmed that all efforts made by family members of the deceased in the last few days to reach authorities to conduct test for the patient failed as officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Owo allegedly claimed there were no logistics to come down to Ipe General Hospital to pick the patient for test.

The source said that some of the health workers at those hospitals couldn’t ascertain the health status of the deceased until he died this morning, this has now been causing panic among them and residents.

One of the health officials confirmed the situation thus, “our Government is not serious about the padenmic, there was a suspected COVID-19 case in GH, Ipe-Akoko yesterday night who died about 2hrs after admission.

“Px (patient) came in unconscious with fever of 40 degree celcius, cough with grunting respiration, 52cpm. PX just discovered to be RVS reactive.

“We called NCDC (officials) in Owo (FMC) who promised to come this morning to collect sample but told us later this morning that they can’t come again due to logistics and we should release the corpse to the relatives,” the health worker said on the condition of anonymity.

“Imagine that, even the relatives that brought the patient yesterday were on gloves and mask, meaning they even suspected something.

“We couldn’t ascertain travel (record of the patient) as PX was unconscious and live alone. The suspicious thing was that they brought the patient from Ikare, leaving SSHx, Ikare, GH, Iwaro, to come to a remote area here, why?

“But NCDC decided not to do anything based on logistics which we don’t knw and advised us to release the corpse.

“Well, the PX was PCV 7%, RVS, chronic cough, and can be anytin, but this is a good suspected case of COVID, so why would NCDC just waive it away, meaning they must have been waiving other good cases (of COVID-19 patients) away too, Nigeria is a mess,” the source told SUNSHINETRUTH.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahaab Adegbenro who confirmed the incident, however declared that it was not a case of Coronavirus as being rumoured.

He said the government could not disclose the ailment that killed the patient, adding that only the family has right to know his status that led to his death.

Adegbenro said the deceased died of an entirely different health condition as proper diagnosis was carried out on the patient by medical personnel while on admission in the hospital.

He enjoined the people of Ipe Akoko not to be unnecessarily apprehensive as government would not treat any coronavirus case with kids’ gloves.

The commissioner also hinted that the patient who tested positive for covid19 at the FMC Owo was now receiving treatment at the Infectious disease hospital in Akure.

Foreign AffairsHow Official Remains Silent On Kim Jong Un's Death Report by Honbright(op): 10:58am On Apr 26, 2020
By Bright Olorungbotemi

Official North Korea media is silent on reports around Kim Jong-un's health; no pictures of his public appearances have appeared lately; strangely, he was also reportedly absent from his late grandfather's birthday ceremony on April 15, VAM News report.

As rumours around North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's poor health catches fire, the country remains unusually silent, thereby fuelling speculations that something is wrong in the tightly-controlled country. Notably, social media is abuzz with speculations over Kim Jong Un's alleged death after a senior official at a Beijing-backed satellite TV channel claimed the same on Weibo.

Vice Director of Hong Kong Satellite Television Shijian Xingzou reportedly stated on her Weibo account, citing top-level sources, that the North Korean leader had died. She is a niece of a Chinese minister and has over 15 million followers on Weibo.

The guessing game is on, with world powers watching the situation in North Korea very closely. The United States has "extensive contingency plans" if the news about Kim Jong-un's death turns out to be true, Fox News quoted a US intelligence source as saying.

The Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun reported Kim Jong-un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, who's seen as his successor for a long time, was ready to assume power in the country.

The official North Korea media is, however, silent on reports around Kim Jong-un's health. No pictures on his public appearances have appeared lately.

Strangely, there were no pictures of his appearance in his late grandfather's birthday ceremony on April 15, an important holiday in North Korea to honour his grandfather and country's founder Kim Il Sung.

The only official news that has come out about the North Korean dictator is that he replied to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad who wrote to him on his grandfather's birthday.

The news, without his picture, was published in official North Korean Central News Agency on Wednesday. Several reports in the international media claimed that the 36-year-old ruler of North Korea is recovering from major heart surgery.

Reuters recently reported that China had sent a team including medical experts to advise on Kim's health. Meanwhile, Japanese weekly magazine Shukan Gendai claimed that the North Korean leader is in a "vegetative state" after a heart surgery earlier this month.

Recall that US President Donald Trump last week also called CNN reports claiming Kim Jong Un was gravely ill "incorrect" and based on "old documents".

South Korea has also rubbished reports published in the Daily NK website and other South Korean media that Kim was at death's door.

Politics2020 Governorship: Ondo Deputy Gov's Campaign Materials Surface Online by Honbright(op): 7:27pm On Apr 24, 2020
By Tunde Olorungbotemi, Akure

The race of survival in Alagbaka government house between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, has gathered more momentum of rivalry in the state, VAM News reports.

According to DAILYPOST, "the campaign messages, sponsored by Agboola Ajayi Grassroots Network, flooded social media, amidst the palpable fear and uncertainty occasioned by the wide spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There have been rumors within the political circle in the state that the Deputy Governor would be contesting against his boss, the current Governor Akeredolu, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)."

Meanwhile, reactions have been trailing the move amidst the COVID-19 concerns in the state.

Dailypost hereby confirmed that the Deputy Governor is said to be eyeing the PDP ticket with the member of the House of Representatives from Akure South/North federal constituency, Hon. Omolafe Adedayo as his deputy.

Confirming the development, a top source within the state’s political circle who craved anonymity to the Newspaper, said it was certain that the Deputy Governor had from the inception of his joint ticket with his boss, been eyeing the governorship seat.

According to the source, the deputy governor had not been loyal to his boss following series of attacks and planted stories he has been sponsoring against the governor.

“Aketi (Governor Akeredolu) trusted Agbo (Deputy Governor) so much when he choose him as his deputy. He entrusted virtually all the political machinery of the state, particularly in the southern senatorial district to the deputy but Agbo used that to his advantage to oil his governorship ambition in the state,” the source said.

While Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Mr Tope Okeowo refuted it.

He said his boss was unaware of the posters.

According to him, they were the handiwork of the deputy governor’s detractors.

“He is not aware at all. It is the work of his enemies who are trying to create further friction between the Governor and his Deputy.

“Let me say that similar videos and posters were released in the past. But the Deputy Governor does not know anything about it,” he said.

By Tunde Olorungbotemi

There was a confusion amidst the residents of Osun state as a report was released from the office of the deputy governor's aides and governor Adegboyega Oyetola's aides contradicted each other on the update on last COVID-19 patient in the state, VAM News reports.

Recall that Osun state government recently announced that eighteen out of the 19 confirmed cases had been tested negative twice, and thereby discharged from the two isolation centres in the state.

Although, controversies have continued to generate from the actual number of cases of COVID-19 in the state, while Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded down the figure at 20 cases, the aggregate of cases maintained by the state government stands at 19.

Also, the deputy governor's aides, Sunkanmi Ajiboye released the report via social media that, "currently, Osun has no Active COVID-19 case... May it remain so perpetually!"

According to WITHINNIGERIA, the controversies rather became more elaborated on Wednesday, when the Senior Adviser to the governor on Public Health, Siji Olamiju, popularly known as AKOL granted interview with a radio station at Ilesha, and disclosed that, "the state had discharged the last patient of coronavirus, thereby making it COVID-19 free."

VAM News gathered that the Commissioner for Health, Rafiu Isamotu said, ” there is no iota of truth in that story, please, discard it”.

He further disclosed to the public that there was need for the state to dialogue with NCDC in order to rectify the discrepancy in the figures of confirmed cases in the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Oyetola on Wednesday while fielding questions from journalists shortly after inspecting some health facilities in the State, reacting to insinuations that the last case had been discharged from the isolation centre, the governor simply said, “there is still one outstanding patient. He has been treated but still positive but he is receiving treatment at the health facility at Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo.”

This is a special appeal to the Federal Government of Nigeria to be humane enough to her citizens and not unduely expose the vulnerables to ravaging fraudsters, VOICE AIR Media reports.

Internet fraudsters are now taking many people unaware having heard that relieve material in form of food and money be distributed by government to people and ease the negative effects of COVID-19 pandemic. These unscrupulous elements are not left out in devising methods of deceit in the guise of the federal government. Now, SMS are being sent to mobile users asking for bank information.

I believe those using these mobile numbers for fraudulence motives can be tracked and arrested.

Allowing them to gain advantage over the 'locked' citizens at a time like this will definitely spell pestilence even when COVID-19 is conquered.

Some of them in separate interviews with the VOICE AIR Media(VAM News) in Ondo and Ekiti state, said the payment of the stipend would enable them to take care of their needs during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Gbenga Opeyemi, an N-power-teach beneficiary, said that the non-payment of their March stipend had brought untold hardship to them during this COVID-19 Lockdown.

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the payment, noting that the programme, which the president initiated had “really helped us a lot’’.

Another beneficiary of N-power-Agro, Goke Adesina, decried the delay in the payment of their monthly stipends, especially under the new Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

Adesina urged the minister in the ministry, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk to address the challenge without any further delay.

“Our stipend was not delayed when the programme was under the Office of the Vice President; so, we are calling on the minister to address the issue once and for all,’’ Adesina said.

While reacting, Mrs Foluke Adewale, a teacher at Comprehensive high school, Akure, said ”we are begging the minister to pay our March stipend to enable us to buy food.

“Asking us to stay at home without paying our March stipend is impacting negatively on us; we celebrated the Easter on empty stomach’’.

“The payment of March 2020 stipend of N30, 000 each to about 500, 000 beneficiaries would have been one of the stimulus packages for COVID-19.

“But up till now, we have not been paid,’’ she said.

Meanwhile, the minister, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk in a press statement released on Tuesday, in Abuja, encouraged the beneficiaries to exercise patience, assuring them that their March stipend would soon commenced the payment today.
