Full speech below:
BROADCAST BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF OSUN, MR. ADEGBOYEGA OYETOLA, ON THE IMPOSITION OF THE SECOND LOCKDOWN IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK ON APRIL 14, 2020

My Dear Good People of the State of Osun,

You will all recall that, following the confirmation of the first case of Coronavirus in the State of on March 25, 2020 by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, we ordered a partial lockdown on the State to contain the spread of the deadly virus. The second case was recorded three days later, while the partial lockdown was still on.

Then came the unexpected arrival of 127 returnees from Ivory Coast shortly after the second case. That sporadically shot the number of persons in isolation from two to 129, necessitating the imposition of a two-week sit-at-home order which came into effect midnight March 31, 2020 to contain the spread of the virus and keep our people safe.

The decision to impose a lockdown on the State was a painful one, but its outcomes have proven that we took the best decision as no new case was recorded during the two-week total lockdown period.

FamilyChild Marriage In Nigeria:a Reflection Of Some Contradictions In Laws-bar Odunay by Honbright(op): 7:34am On Apr 13, 2020
By Tunde Olorungbotemi

Child marriage is prevalent in societies /communities where poverty is endemic and the proceeds gotten from giving out a girl child are most used to cater for other members of the family, VOICE AIR Media reports.

Child marriage is majorly done, by the betrothal of a girl child below 18 years to a man much older or old enough to be the girl bride father.

Statutorily defined, a child is a person under the age of 14 years, while a young person is between the age of 14 and 17 years.

The convention on the right of the child, defines a child as a human being below the age of 18 years, unless under the law applicable to the minority is attained earlier.

African charter on the right and welfare of the child defines a child in articles to mean every human below the age of 18 years.

From all 8 given above it is trite that a child is below 18 years is not capable of making a lifelong decisions herself and shouldn’t be forced to make a lifelong commitment to marriage even by the parent or guardian of such person.

He said, “On the issue of reopening of schools, the ministry has not directed the reopening of any school at any level.

The purported press release by the minister to that effect is a clear forgery as it did not emanate from the minister.

“Parents, students and the general public are advised to please disregard the fake release. There is also another story making the rounds that the Federal Government has blamed the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities on vice-chancellors. Oke although was advised by the court to restrict himself to the testimony of the witness, asked the question again saying that some facts needed to be cleared up through the hearing.

The witness then said that it was not the work of the Department to exhume corpses.

As the court had already proceeded on Easter recess, the case was then adjourned till 27th April, 7th and 11th May, 2020.

By One Class

As the trial of Alfa Babatunde of Sotitobire church continued in Ondo state high court sitting in Akure on Monday , the trial became more tasky as court admitted the evidence presented by the Department of Security Service against Prophet Babatunde Alfa over the missing of one year old boy in his church, VOICEAIR MEDIA reports.

The trial resumed as journalists were barred from the proceedings due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The six defendants and other court officials were also ordered to wash their hands before entering in to the court premise as part of the process against coronavirus.

Babatunde was dragged before the Court following the disappearance of a one year old toddler, Gold Kolawole, during a church service in his church in November last year.

During the Monday’s proceeding, a Senior officer of the Department of State Service, (DSS) Yomi Olabiyi, presented before the court ,the evidence obtained from the defendants while in custody of the agency.

Also, while cross examining the DSS Director of Public Prosecution, Grace Olowoporoku, who tendered as evidence, the statements made by Babatunde and four other defendants before the court, but the Counsel to the defendant, Olusola Oke, opposed the position.

According to Oke, the Counsel who was present while the defendant was giving his statement was provided by the DSS, from the legal aid council, contrary to the claim that the counsel was engaged by the defendant.

The presiding Judge, Olusegun Olusola, however ruled that, Section 17 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, allowed a defendant to engage a counsel from the legal aid Council of Nigeria or justice of peace to represent him when security agents elicit statements from the suspects.

He ruled in favor of the adminisiblity of the statements made by the defendants as evidence for the trial on the basis that it was confirmed that a legal aid council of Nigeria was present at the time of obtaining the statement.

HealthCoronavirus: Patient Escapes Isolation In Osun State by Honbright(op): 12:51pm On Apr 04, 2020
The Truth about Ejigbo returnees - Osun Govt

Our attention has been drawn to a story purporting that six persons were missing from our Isolation centre in Ejigbo.

One of the writers quoted a non-existent statement from the government to lend some measure of credibility to the story.

Nothing can be further from the truth. As a government, we have not issued any statement to confirm or deny such story. Besides, a quick check showed that the name and number of the first person on the list of the purported missing patients, is indeed currently in our facility in Ejigbo.

Recall that  about a week ago,  we received 127 returnees from Ivory Coast and we have kept them since then to avoid community transfer of the virus.

This morning we embarked on a headcount and found out that only one person could not be accounted for by officials stationed at the Isolation centre out of the 127 persons.

The State Government is currently investigating the matter and will ensure that the missing person is brought back to the Isolation centre and we will also ensure we trace all his contacts.

We want to reiterate that any official(s) found culpable will also be dealt with accordingly.

We implore members of the public to discountenance the alarm being raised. We will continue to do everything to protect the lives of our citizens in this fight against Coronavirus.

Signed Mrs. Funke Egbemode
Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation.

Another eyewitness who could not hide his disappointment said, "what does one do when institutions entrusted with our very lives betray that trust in one's most vulnerable moment?

For many people like me, it is bad to discovered that a state owned hospital lack common paracetamol, glove and emergency or immediate care a hospital should provide when a person Is injured or ill until full medical treatment is available for accident victims, he said.

Reacting to the incident, Comrade Olorungbotemi Bright urged Governor Gboyega Oyetola to provide reactionary measure, boost and revitalize health sector in the state.

Full statement below;
TEXT OF MR. GOVERNOR’S BRIEFING ON THE UPDATE ON THE FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS IN THE STATE OF OSUN

My Dear People of The State of Osun.

You will recall that three days ago, I addressed you on the first recorded case of the novel Coronavirus in the State, which was confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

Sadly, a second person has tested positive, meaning our State now has two confirmed cases of Covid-19.

Though the first case is stable and receiving adequate medical care, it has become imperative to rev up measures to keep our citizens safe.

Following a review of our current situation, we have in addition to the subsisting measures taken in the past one week, decided to shut down all our land boundaries, effective from midnight, Sunday, March 29, 2020.

In addition, a complete lockdown of the State will come into effect from midnight, Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

We believe this is the way to go, if we must contain the spread of this virus. To this end, we urge citizens and residents to take advantage of the hours between now and Tuesday to stock up provisions that will last two weeks in the first instance.

During the lockdown, there will be no movement within the State. The closed boundaries also means there will be no inter-state movements.

However, those on essential duties such as health personnel, fire services, environmental officials, security personnel, power and water supply agencies, media and telecommunication officers will be on duty.

Also, pharmaceutical and medical outfits will be allowed to open.

We have mandated and mobilised the State’s taskforce and security operatives to enforce measures to the letter.

We, therefore, strongly advise our people to remain in their homes during the period of the lockdown.
