I just got transferred back to Lagos in October last year and met this girl who is a secretary in one of our client office.
We sort of vibed and I asked her out, so we started dating early December.

On Christmas eve, I decided to spend the day at her place and on my way in, I met a familiar face driving in,
It was a guy who lived in the same hood with me before I left Lagos. We weren't friends really, more like acquaintance who greeted each other and knew each other on first name basis but never hung out together.
Apparently, he lives in the same apartment as my gf, He upstairs and they (my gf and family) downstairs. let's call this dude X.

When I told gf about X and how we once lived in the same area, she wasn't happy.
She said X was a bad guy and not the kind of guy to relate with bla bla.
I insisted that though I wasn't close to X, my impressions of him were an easy going dude, who rarely had trouble with anyone.

Beau insisted that he had a lot of friends coming around who were unruly and irresponsible and she just didn't like them.
I didn't really give it much thought since it wasn't like X was a close pal.

Last weekend, I had gone to pick her for an evening outing, we were outside when X was driving in again, I wasn't sure he saw me since it was dark,
so I decided to walk towards where he was parking to say hi, only for her to hold me back and insist she didn't want me to even greet him or have anything or discussions with him.
I acted chill and asked her why was she so persistence, she repeated the bad boy, rubbish guy talk.

Frankly all this has made me so curious and I am considering finding away to approach this guy and talk with him.

The opinion I need from esteemed peeps on this forum is -

1. Do you think I am being 'unnecessarily' curious by wanting to talk to X about my gf
2. If I do decide to meet him, How do you advise I broach the subject with him considering I don't even have his phone number and might need to go meet him at home
3. If you were in X's shoes would you consider it clumsy or agbaya behavior, me coming to meet you to ask about my gf - I am quite older than X, by my estimate, by 5 to 7 years or would you be cool with it

My brother, I hardly comment on issues on this simply because of wrong perception but I will share my own experience.
My wife chats with her ex from time to time which I am fully aware right from the time we started dating till we married (her ex is married now). I've equally had a WhatsApp call with the guy in one or two occasions (friendly talk). I've come to build some rapour with him.

I remember a divorce case I handled some years ago.

The Respondent, the wife, blatantly refused to show up in court or engage a lawyer; and the judge wasn’t ready to proceed without her.

One day in court, the judge, again, refused to proceed with the matter without the woman. That we must meet with her and hold the statutory conference before she will hear the matter. I told the judge we have served her the petition and the hearing notice for today’s sitting and clearly she is not interested in defending the petition, so, we should proceed in the interest of justice.

The judge come vex for me o. That I should do more than that. I should get her number, call her and try to see her and hold a meeting with both of them and try to settle them. E come be like say na me wan scatter their marriage.

The judge asked the petitioner, my client, if he doesn’t want settlement, he said no. He was visibly angry, talking about how he just wants a divorce immediately and nothing else. That they are still living together and that he is just waiting for the divorce to leave the house or kick the woman out.

Judge says I should still meet with both of them. Everybody knows that this is the point you must shout “As the Court pleases” to avoid wahala.

After court I collected the Respondent’s phone number from my client and called her immediately. I requested to meet with her and invited her to come to my office. Madam said she is not coming anywhere, that if I want to meet with her, my client should bring me to their house.

I went back to the office after agreeing with my client that I will come over to his house after the close of work that same day.

I went to their house by 5pm. We sat down and starting talking about the issue. Then I got a bombshell.

She: Did your client tell you that he is serious about that divorce?

Me: Yes. We are in court already. He even told the judge so this morning in court. He is here now, he can tell you himself.

She: Serious about which divorce? Is it not that court he came back from this afternoon and came and collect one d@ggy?

I was totally flabbergasted. I didn’t expect that kind of raw bluntness from her. I turned to my client, he was silent and avoiding my eyes.
