@illusion2
Y'know the beauty about United? Versatility. Versatility that actually works.
Fergie can decide to play Rooney on the wing, Berba in MF,  Giggs and Owen up front and goals would still flow in. Now that's what we call a plan B. Defenders remain unsure who exactly to mark, who exactly to look out for.
Fergie can still remix his team in 2 more different ways without Rooney being up front and still win games.
Unpredictability.  .  .opponents don't always know what to expect.

Ronaldo's case was a foregone one. . .what gaffer in his right mind wouldn't assign 3 men to one of the world's best players?

Rafa, on the other hand, has got Torres-Gerrard. End of. Nothing else. Worse, everybody knows that. So when teams want to play Liverpool, their main worry is how to stop Torres and Gerrard. Heck, do they even bother with Gerrard? Strong teams just lock Torres down and life becomes smoother.

My point is, there should be some sorta variety in attack, not the same old plan day in, day out. Predictability is never good for any team. Look at Chelsea as well.  .  .that same versatility exists. Their players interchange roles smoothly. You can't just predict where and how exactly they plan to play. They adapt their style as the game proceeds.

Liverpool don't do that. As for the MF issue, does it mean the team will always lose when Javier doesn't play? See why I say y'all lack versatility?

As for Rantin' Rafa, na today? grin You should know your gaffer better.
You obviously don't watch Liverpool games . . . .ever heard of Kuyt,Benayounhuh

Today the tactic changed which prob led to our loss i already analysed our regular style of play here

We play Gerrard behind Torres while Benayoun & Kuyt come in on the wings, for today's game Yossi played deep,Stephen G moved to the left etc. . . .  .so Alex F isn't the only manager that moves 'things around'. . , . .neither is 'versatility' a character of only one team tongue

Do we rely a lot an those 2 (Gerrard & Torres) for our goals. .  .maybe ,but so do other teams rely on their main starts

Can we do better? . . . . .  definitely. . .all teams have room for improvement.

But don't just say. . . .because Torres was marked out . . . Liverpool can't win. . .we won the UCL in 2005,fought MANURE to the wire last season,so we are not some cheap, side. .  .ok?

How many games did MANURE win last season with a Ronaldo free kick, penalty or header? Does that mean they'll stop playing him??

It's all Rafa's fault, really. What exactly was the big idea bragging about Torres being in form, Torres going to do this and that? Dude practically laid his game plan on the ground for all to see.
Result: Four - 1,2,3,4 - four men were always on Torres. Made sure he couldn't do a damn thing. I thought they were going to break his legs at some point.
Rafa should start seriously thinking about having a backup plan for the Torres-Gerrard combo. Becoming quite predictable. And he should learn to shut his gob before games too.
Any loss in football can ultimately be traced to the team's manager, however Rafa never 'bragged' about Torres being in form (I stand to be corrected with valid refs) ,after the Hull City game he said, yes El Tor  is on fire, but still had to improve.

Back-up to Torres wasn't the issue in this Fiorentina game ,we simply didn't click today especially in mid-field, the absence of Mascherano certainly had some part in this.

Every team has its joker,. . . . . . . ,  for the past few seasons, the main difference btw MANURE (your team  tongue) and other EPL teams was Ronaldo ,it was all about Drogba+Lampard with Chelski,Messi-Xavi for Barca. . . .so nothing wrong with Torress-Gerrard.  wink

Lets face it. . . .we (Liverpool) will qualify from that group ,come what may. . . .Fiorentina have probably gotten as many points as they'll ever get from either us or Lyon.

Quite sad we didn't quite click & certainly not the kind of result you wanna take to Stamford bridge , .but as always:

Politics › And The Slow Coach Continues - No Imminent Cabinent Reshuffle-yar'adua by illusion2(op): 2:53pm On Sep 29, 2009
And Mr Go-Slow gets even slower. . . .  .

When most Nigerians expected,a change in gear & some acceleration towards pulling a potentially great country out of the doldrums, Mr Yar'Adull says all is well for now:

I weep for Nigeria:

Thisday
Presidency: No Plan to Reshuffle Cabinet Now
From George Oji in Abuja, 09.29.2009

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has no plan to embark on cabinet reshuffle at this point in time, his spokesman, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, has said.
There have been speculations of an imminent cabinet reshuffle. It was reported that between five and seven ministers may be dropped in the cabinet change.
A report in a newspaper had indicated that some of the affected ministers are allegedly being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and State Security Service (SSS).
But Presidential spokesman Adeniyi dispelled the rumour last night.
He said there is no plan by the President to either remove or replace any minister at this point in time.
Adeniyi, in a terse statement, expressed worry over the source of the rumour, describing such speculations as distractive to governance.
He said: “I don’t know where the speculations about cabinet reshuffle are coming from, but let me state for the avoidance of any doubt that there is no plan by the President to remove or replace any minister at this point in time.”
According to him, “The daily speculations in some newspapers have become a needless distraction as the public is being made to believe a lie.”
Speculations about impending cabinet reshuffle by the President have been making the rounds in some newspapers and elsewhere in the past two weeks.
The President is alleged to be uncomfortable with the performance of some of the ministers, thus fuelling rumours that he would announce a cabinet change on October 1, 2009, to coincide with the country’s independence day.
The rumour has been so rife that some of the ministers who are not sure of making the list again were reported to be demoralised thus making them to be hesitant about taking certain actions in their ministries.

I think re printing arabic on those note will go a long way in communicating to them. so stop been sentimental about this issue, the notes will be cheaper, saves money for the economy and less rough handle by nigerians and if reprinted in Arabic will communicate to all
Doesn't make sense this is 2009,most people should be able to read & write in latin(not English) characters. . . . . . . . .  ,

I'm currently on a Jason Bourne novel by Eric Van Lustbader, in it a fictional military officer comes  to the conclusion that Christianity is feminine (and weak) cos of its loving, fatherly God,forgiveness,'turning the other cheek' etc ,while Islam on the other hand comes across as been masculine-ruthless,decisive,manly and strong.

What do you think?

I don't think there should be any apprehension on the setup of an Islamic bank. We should be tolerant of ourselves as people of the same country. There is a world phenomenon called freedom of association. let's all imbibe it. It is insinuations like this that are being raised here that contributes more to our backwardness.
Right now banks operate products that are interest free ran by muslims and no one sees anything wrong with that. Banks being ran by xtians operate these products. So what's the fuss about muslims putting their money in banks that fully support their beliefs. I won't be surprised if a Pastor of a church sits on the board of the so-called Islamic bank. Please let's be objective and not be guardian of religion. It is only God that can judge. Let's all focus on our personal interaction with God and learn to respect other people's beliefs.
God bless us all

Is Nigeria a secular or Multi-religious state? Please somebody should enlighten me.
The last time I checked there is 'SO HELP ME GOD' in our National Pledge.
The US has 'In God We Trust' as well & is still regarded as secular. Secularity isn't necessarily synonyous with atheistm or agnosticsm,it simply means seperation of Religious authority from governance.

The opposite would be a theocracy (like Iran),one of the most religious countries in teh World is Italy, which even has part of its geographic territory ceded to a particular faith(Vatican). . . .but its still secular.

You can believe in God ,but not bring in your religion to governance. . . .
