I love everyone thats why i do what i do as an emergency medical specialist. We do not ask for beliefs or lack of them before rushing to the rescue and stabilizing victims of incidents and accidents. We have our fair share of atheists here and i am used to their outbursts and dodgy behaviour especially when confronted. They tend to try and turn everything into a verbal weapon against you. Say the wrong word or use the wrong term or stand the wrong way and they would focus on that like hawks but i love them regardless and all of them have one form of complex or the other so i understand their frailties.

I am loving this website and being on my week off (the longest ever) i will spend it here. i normally work 48hour shifts.
Wow! Wish I could say "Please don't go", but you have lives to save, which is more important.

Its most likely he has dreams of being a medical doctor and has been digging up and devouring online journals while aspiring to become one. I suspect he is yet to begin any medical course but thinks himself a fantasy medical doctor. He has been probably lying to everyone here that he is a doctor when i can see he isnt. If he had mentioned his medical specialty i would have ripped his lying quack fantasy medical doctor claims to shreds as i expose the charlatan and he knows this so has been avoiding giving me an answer to that question.

He is still free to prove me wrong by mentioning it. lol

Dr Quack Catfishbilly what is your medical specialty?
I really feel bad for him. It's not funny when you have your over inflated ego deflated the way you have done. Watch them gang up against you on other threads. They will even create threads specifically to discredit and mock you like they do with felixmore and KingEbukasblog. You will probably be the subject of their discussion through out today on their WhatsApp group. That's how childish these nairaland atheists are. Can't have a reasonable discussion with them without having them attack your person and your beliefs. Just remember to show them love whenever they come at you with their hate filled attacks. It will be difficult, but we have a duty to love them no matter what.
So CatfishBilly, what is your medical specialty sir? grin

The fact that we don't have a set beliefs that we all accept as true. Churches are for worship. An association is solely for networking.
So you are just a bunch if confused lads trying to find closure? Oh Good. And oh! The church is not the building. The church is the people in the building. Just so you know.

Okay, to everyone who thinks that every form of association with like-minded individuals is the same thing as forming a religion. You are mistaken.

The FFRF is an American organization that represent the religiously unaffiliated in legal cases of abuse of religious privilege. We do not have a strong institution like this in Nigeria...yet.

So, what is wrong in a grassroots social club of religiously unaffiliated people like you and me that would help us network, interact, and exchange advice with one another? Even more importantly, what's religious about developing a network to help persecuted freethinkers who are in need? Not every social group has to be religious and I highly doubt that online networking would devolve us into some sort of dogmatic cult.
I get your point. Not all associations are religious. But reading through that list, that is something I should be doing as a Christian. As for the association part, we have out own. We call it a church. So my question is, what makes atheism different?

Born2Freak:
It is easy to criticize religion and defeat religious arguments but it is another thing to create a change. Our country Nigeria needs change. Talking on nairaland is one thing but making progress in real life is another.

1) Self-improvement and leading by examples.
There is no better way to show people your core beliefs other than leading by example. If you are successful and hardworking, people will emulate you. No one listens to a poor preacher. No one cares if you're an atheist in Nigeria if you're successful. When Mark Zuckerberg came to Nigeria, no one cared that he once put "atheist" as his belief on facebook- Nigerians just wanted to talk and take selfies with him.

2) Networking with other atheists
I have met some other atheists off nairaland and I am glad that I did. Not only do you get to make friends that are on your side, there are business opportunities as well. Also, marriage opportunities, if you are looking for a partner with similar beliefs.

3) Joining foreign (European and American) Humanist/skeptic/atheist groups
One has to think globally nowadays. I hosted a german guy in Nigeria during last christmas. We met on a humanist forum and he was coming to Nigeria but didnt have much contacts in Nigeria. And now, i have a friend to visit anytime i'm in Germany. It is important to make global connections because you never know where life can take you. PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT ADVOCATING FOR YAHOO MAGA 419. Although foreign currency is powerful nowadays.

4) Getting your views out on other Nigerian media
I once heard someone criticising religion on 96.9 cool FM when listening to the radio. The guy called cool FM and blasted Nigerian pastors as he was angry that a woman died because she went to a church instead of a hospital. The guy caller stated that he does not follow any religion and also blasted the radio host for trying to mock his disbelief. Now, thousands of Nigerians would have heard the guy's complaint on the radio and agree with his logic. You never know who is listening to you. Radio and twitter are great mediums in which one can be protected by anonymity and still reach millions of people.

5) Engaging in NGOs and charities.
Last year, I joined a charity that was working with village children and giving them some education. I got to advice the older youths about watching out for themselves and protecting themselves from slave labour, STDs and superstitious nonsense. One can make little changes in people's lives through charities.
The irony of your post is that Christianity encourages all these. Except the "joining atheist groups" thingy which is equivalent to joining a church!

Seriously dropping. i just found out that wednesdays in DELSU (a state university) is a day for praise and worship. Lectures end by 12 or so on that day. A state owned university
If this is true, then its really rubbish. I am a Christian, but this is nonsense. Bible says there is time for everything. We have every time on earth to praise and worship God. We have time on Sundays. I do it in my room every single day. You don't have to stop lectures to "praise and worship" God. I condemn this action highly and whoever made that rule has little knowledge of the Bible.
Christianity EtcRe: I Really Pity Christians by ilynem(m): 1:32pm On May 18, 2017
frank317:
I really pity Christians and Muslims for wanting God to exist by all means. This is not really their fault. who wouldnt want God to exist and come to his aid in a world filled with both love and pain, sadness and happiness, tears and joy, laughter and cry. who wouldnt want a divine help from above. The thought of being alone in the universe can be depressing to a weak mind and trust me, many people are weak.

So they force God to exist. They make up ridiculous stories to fill in their awe. They create a superhero in their mind and call it God. And for this super hero to make sense, they create a villain for him. But sadly they are both this God and devil. Their head becomes a battle ground for both God and devil, and they struggle every day to stop a war that they created by themselves.

I pity them because they belief in something that they have never seen, spoken with or felt. Just an idea in their head that have taken over their sense of being. Now they see danger were their is none, they see demons and evil spirits and enemies everywhere. Is sad to see a normal smart human, call himself helpless, and sinful just because he makes mistakes in life. He condemns himself and talk to himself asking himself for forgiveness.

They become adults acting like kids in the name of a being they only see in their head. if you tell them otherwise, they say you are angry with their God. How I wish God exist, I would really be angry at him for creating such a world of uncertainties. Where you lose a loved one and never see him/her again. Where you have to work hard to earn a living always struggling and thinking hard to keep your head above the water.

I pity Christians and muslims because they cant stand thinking we are all alone, they are slaves to their wishes and desires. I pity them because they cant face reality. Its sad watching good people put all their hope in hopelessness. You look up and see nothing, yet you hold unto nothingness, wishing so strongly and badly they their is someone out there watching and willing to help them. Having comfort in falsehood and struggling each day to make sense of nothing... it just plain sad.

no wonder, they get angry when questioned. They call you names, accuse u wrongly and indirectly beg you to stop the questions. They beg with mix feelings of violence and soft plea. They want you to just stop because their world will fall apart if they find out that they are actually all alone and have no but just themselves.

I pity them because they dont have the strength to embrace reality.
Wow!
Nice article! It won't be out of place on a secondary school notice board.

He is not going to. Him and the rest of them will run into their little hole until they have something new to feed on and then they will come out in their numbers. That's how it works here. I have to give you credit though. Standing up to all of them, it was lovely to see. Thank you very much for standing up to what you believe in. Christianity EtcRe: Misconception About A Verse In The Qur'an By Those Who Claim To Be Christians by ilynem(m): 10:05am On May 18, 2017
NASTYNASOSO:
MISCONCEPTION ABOUT A VERSE IN THE QUR'AN BY THOSE WHO CLAIM TO BE CHRISTIANS.

Allah says in the Qur'an;
"If you are in doubts concerning what Allaah revealed (The QUR'AN), ask those who have been reading the book before you..."Qur'an 10:94.
According to the understanding of those who claims to be Christians, Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam was in doubts about the Qur'an that has been revealed to him so Allah was recommending him to read the Bible for clarification or ask Bible scholars.

The first thing we have to know is that, Qur'an never mention Bible. The word Bible is not mentioned even in the Bible. It was not mentioned in the Qur'an either. The mistake some Muslim scholars make is that, when Qur'an mentions injil or Torah, they translate it as Bible. That's a terrible translation. They've mutilated the verse AstaghfirulLah. First of all, let's summarises what's the Bible.

The word Bible originated from the Greek word BIBLIA/BILIOUS which means collection of books or the books. In AD325, there was a council in of necea organized by Constantine, the first Roman Emperor to accept Christianity. He combined all the Churches in his empire under one umbrella and were called the Catholic which means universal. Today, the Catholic Church is the oldest existing Church in the Christian world. Constantine also selected Bishops to compile all the Brooks that are used by the Church. They decided which books should be added and which ones should be rejected. They rejected certain books which they called it Apocrypha. Apocrypha means not inspired to be in the word of God. They finally had 73 books as inspired by God. 46 in the old testament and 27 new testament books. Martin Luther and some few people protested against the authenticity of some 7 books which were added to the Bible because they were not translated into Greek. The Bible was later reduced from 73 to 66. The 66 books of the Bible is called the Protestant Bible. It was fully translated into English in 1611 by king James. It was known as the authorized version. Authorized by king James not God Almighty. The 73 Books of the Bible was translated as the Douay version also called the Roman Catholic version. It still exist within the Catholic Church. After the compilation, they later agreed on a suitable name to be given to the book. They called it the Bible. They choose this name because the Bible consist of different books from different authors. It is accepted by all Christians that 40 different authors wrote the Bible. This is why it is called a collection of books, ie. different books.

All these efforts to compile the Bible was done by the Romans to preserve the doctrine used by the Jews and the Christian Church. The compilation was not done by prophets of God or their companions like we have in hadith but by common men like me and you. It wasn't audited by God but by Constantine, Martin Luther and other Bishops. Paul was not a prophet but he has a lot of his books recorded in the Bible.

The Bible therefore consist of words of God and words of men. Example of the word of God in the Bible is the 10 commandments in Exodus 20:1-10. Example of the words of men consist of all the letters of Paul which were added into the Bible and other people who were not prophet but their words are recorded in the Bible. There are also a lot of contradictions in the Bible which include Genesis 6:5 "God repented for making man and it pain him in his heart" AstaghfirulLah, and numbers 19:23 "God is not a man to repent or the son of man to lie". The Bible also consist of a lot of incest which include the incest of Judah who had sex with his daughter-in-law, Genesis chapter 38. It also consist of sexy words which are not advisable for children to read like Ezekiel chapter 23 and songs of songs 1:2 which says "and kiss me with the kisses of your mouth, for your love is sweeter than wine..

All these can not be called the words of God even though they are found in the Bible. And this is some of the reason why Muslims don't believe in the total authenticity of the Bible.

The Bible today has gone through series of editions and versions. There are about 100 versions of the Bible today. Each version is different from the other. As for the original version of the Bible, no one knows where is it.

The injil and Torah according to the Qur'an is not the Bible but the original words which were coming out from the mouth of Moses and Jesus. If someone is able to produce the original words of Jesus and Moses, we'll believe in it as the Qur'an wants us to believe in the words of the prophets of Israel.

Now the topic is, was Muhammad in doubt of the Qur'an? The answer is NO! What is your proof?
My proof to my fellow Christians is in Qur'an 2:285 which says "the messenger (Muhammad) believed what was revealed to him from his Lord...".
This means the verse in Qur'an 10:94 was not directly referring to Muhammad but to those who doubt that Muhammad's name was written in their book. The Qur'an was therefore recommending them to ask those who have been reading the original books of Jesus and Moses before them. Allah was informing the Prophet to tell those who doubt about the revelation to him that they can refer to their books about the prophesies of Muhammed sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the Qur'an which they've tried and removed, twisted etc from their books. It also refer to those who have been studying the Qur'an meaning if anyone doubt about the Qur'an can ask those who have been reading or studying it. Alhamdulillah.

May Allah help Christians to understand and aid us in understanding our deen. Aameen.
The Bolded. I need you to read it slowly and see the hypocrisy in that statement.

If you read the op carefully d author has already explain that and jeremiah 8:8 confirm that as well..
My simple question for you here is
Do you believe the Qur an to be word of God? If not then why then qouting and interpreting it?
You see, my point is this. If Mohammed and others were told to go to the people of the book, then the "book" should have been in existence then. But the "book" the OP was talking about, where Muhammad was mentioned by name has never been seen. Has been deleted from history. No trace of it. Nothing. So why would Allah ask us to go to a "book" that no longer exists? Simple answer. The book was in existence and it was the one used by the Jews and the Christians. The one we use now. I know you will come up with "king James translated it and added or removed from it", but that is just a very lazy argument. You know why? The sources used by king James are still in existence today (unlike the original book where Mohammed was mentioned by name). Hundreds of ancient manuscripts that if we decide re-write the entire Bible today, we can.
