PoliticsPresidential Run: Maurice Iwu, Governors’ Forum Plant New Bait For Jonathan by Imeobong(op): 5:07pm On Mar 26, 2010
AHas Maurice Iwu, the lame-duck chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman (INEC) entered into an elaborate plot with some members of the notorious “Governors Forum” to enable him to retain his position at the Commission? Impeccable sources have told Saharareporters that such a scam, driven by the desperation of the INEC boss, is in place. Hatched in phases, it includes a strong “lobby” by some of the governors to convince acting President, Goodluck Jonathan to run for office in 2011.

That bait, which the governors involved feel Jonathan will be unable to resist, would entice him to retain Iwu in office as INEC chairman and joker. It is an irresistible proposition because Jonathan will be persuaded to argue that while some electoral reforms can be put in place, time is too short to bring in a new chairman for INEC.

Jonathan is said to be seriously considering the idea of running for a second term, and is being wooed to understand that only Iwu can make that happen because of his experience, a short-hand term that refers to his antecedents in rigging elections in favor of preferred politicians in Nigeria. Iwu, who had been penciled for removal by next Tuesday, is said to be growing more confident again.

Yesterday, the INEC chairman organized a rally in support of his continuation in office for a fee of N100 million Naira. By coincidence, Dora Akunyili, the candidate that Jonathan had penciled down for his position was offered a ministerial slot the same day.

Saharareporters sources said the plot being developed between the governors and Iwu would ultimately destroy Jonathan as he is being set up primarily to appear desperate, ambitious and greedy. The actual objective is to keep Iwu in his current position as most of the politicians behind him have struck an agreement with him by which he will rig them into office in the upcoming elections in 2011.

Another PDP source told Saharareporters that should Jonathan swallow the bait he is being offered, he would be defeated during the PDP primaries no matter what he does or how he does it, because his desire to run for office will turn most northern delegates against his candidature in favor of former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida, who is believed to be the favored PDP candidate for the 2011.

The plan is to further rubbish Jonathan’s acclaimed desire to conduct free and fair elections in 2011, for, as our source questioned: “How can he conduct free and fair elections with Iwu as INEC chairman and having himself as a presidential candidate at the same time?”

I would not advice your friend to go to fiji, from what i have researched on fiji.First, therd was a milititary coup in fiji in 2006,and now the country is run by a military dictator.the economy is doing bad, infact the economy shrank by 6.6% percent in 2006.it grew by only 1% last year, and since the coup, unemployment is very high. What makes things worse is the EU has cut aid to fiji, and Australia does not have any diplomatic relations with fiji. There is no Australian consulate in fiji, and even with a fiji passport you will still be required to apply for a visa in person at the nearest Aussie co nsulate.

Your friend should think twice,a country run by a military dictator might not be the best place to be an illegal immigrant, since such leaders are known to be very ruthless with little regard to sanctity of human life.

PoliticsYar’adua’s Resumption Of Work A Hoax by Imeobong(op): 11:54am On Mar 23, 2010
Source:http://www.saharareporters.com/real-news/sr-headlines/5603-yaraduas-resumption-of-work-a-hoax.html

A medical source familiar with Umaru Yar’adua’s dire health condition has told Saharareporters that the syndicated media reports claiming that Yar’adua would resume work next week “is a complete hoax.” The reports, which were carried by Daily Trust and The Nation newspapers, painted a generous portrait of Yar’adua’s supposed recuperation and his alleged plans to return to work next week. The Daily Trust report made ridiculous claims that Yar’adua had regained strength and was walking around in the gardens surrounding the presidential villa.

“It’s bunkum,” said our source.

Other politically connected sources in Abuja told Saharareporters that Yar’adua’s condition was so bad that even members of the kitchen cabinet, including Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, have given up hopes of his return. Mr. Tanimu Kurfi, who served as Yar’adua’s chief economic advisor, spent last weekend in Kaduna. An associate who spoke to him described his mood as “downcast,” adding that Kurfi had come to terms with the fact “that his days of influence as a member of Yar’adua’s inner circle are over.”

Yar’adua’s mother and other relatives have called on his wife, Turai, to let him return to Katsina to recuperate as much as it is possible. A source close to Yar’adua’s relatives told Saharareporters that Umaru Yar’adua’s mother was furious that Turai has resisted all entreaties “to let Yar’adua make a dignified exit from power.”

A highly placed security source told Saharareporters that the latest hoax about Yar’adua’s return was part of a scheme by Turai and other die-hard loyalists of Yar’adua to force more concessions from acting President Goodluck Jonathan as he reconstitutes the federal cabinet. Mr. Jonathan dissolved the cabinet last week and is in the process of lining up a new cabinet.

“Turai and her group want to have a larger say about who gets appointed into the cabinet,” said a source. “They want to ensure that, whatever happens, their interests remain protected, if not paramount,” the source added.

As Saharareporters earlier reported, Jonathan had offered Mrs. Yar’adua the opportunity to nominate candidates for five ministerial slots as well as a special assistant position. Unsatisfied, the greedy “First Lady” has reportedly demanded that she receive 10 ministerial positions. In addition, she is also insisting that she and her group be allowed to choose who occupies some of the juiciest ministerial positions. She has also insisted that former Minister of Information, Dora Akunyili, should not be on the list of new ministers.

RomanceWould You Allow Your Daughter Become Second Wife? by Imeobong(op): 11:15pm On Mar 13, 2010
In Islam, polygamy is considered an injunction from the Almighty. It is believed that Allah approves it. Christians think otherwise saying, if God wanted it. He could have created more women for Adam to marry in the beginning. Even Christians practise polygamy. Would you give your daughter to a married man?

Whats your opinion?

Personnally, as a christian I do not like it and will not consider it and therefore can never allow my daughter (God forbid) marry a married man.

On the 24th of February 2010, I went into Bodlinks Ltd, an MTN dealer located at Ring Road in Ibadan, purchased the MTN monthly internet bundle and paid the sum of N10,000 for the service. The reference number for the transaction is 0180930475. However, to my surprise the service became erratic after two days and stopped working on the fourth day. I was on a business-related to Lagos, as such, I could not immediately report this apparent anomally personally to Bodlinks MTN.

On the 3rd of March, I went to the Bodlinks MTN Office to report the situation. I must confess that the reception I received was purely abysmal. The Office Manager, Bode Obube was not in, but one of the staff in the office, named Patience put me on the phone with him. Bode basically blamed for what happened. He said I was required to activate the service, and since I did not activate the service, I basically burned N10,000 in four days! And that there is absolutely nothing he can do about it. I now asked him a very simple question. Why would a service that requires activation work without it being activated? Another question I asked him is why I wasn’t prompted to activate the service.

I also asked him if he would pay N10,000 for four days of internet use. As usual, he could not answer these questions. All he could do was to basically blame me for what happened. What Bode Obube obviously thought is because I can afford to pay N10,000 for internet service, I could afford to forget about what happened and pay another N10,000. But, he got it wrong, I will not let anyone, not even MTN take away my hard earned money. After I got off the phone, an office staff named Patience took my name and contact phone and promised to get back to me the following day for a possible resolution. It is now over a week, and I have not heard from Bodlinks MTN. This goes a long way to show the culture at MTN.

I am going to ask MTN the same question I asked Bode Obube. Why would a service that requires activation work without being activated? Would anyone at MTN, even your Executives pay N10,000 for four days of internet use? And why would the system not prompt a customer to activate the service? The simple reason is MTN thinks Nigerians are fools. These are the Nigerians that bailed MTN out. MTN, prior to its entry into Nigeria was an unknown telecoms company. Is this how you repay Nigerians? By scamming us because MTN believes Nigerians won’t complain or we just basically don’t know our rights? I believe the NCC should take note of this, and require that for all services requiring activation, telecoms operators must insert commands into their products that would prompt customers to activate such. Anything short of this, is a scam. It is very instructive to note that I took an informal survey of close relatives and acquaintances that are or were MTN customers, and what I heard confirmed that MTN is all about noise, but very little or no customer service. Cases of customers who are still receiving bills from MTN for services they’ve discontinued, shoddy and non-responsive customer service, etc. I believe a class action law suit should be filed against MTN for all their excesses, and the process should and will start very soon.

I am by this note asking MTN to refund the N10,000 I paid for the purported monthly internet bundle that turned out to be a scam. I have being an MTN customer since 2008, and at this point no longer interested in anything MTN. The only reason I will keep my MTN phone is because it has been my only number in Nigeria since 2008.

In ending, I will want to state that I took every step possible to resolve this issue through Bodlinks MTN, but after waiting two weeks, and being denied the use of convenient internet service I paid for, I had to other option than to expose it to the whole world

PoliticsMy Fears For Nigeria-By Buhari (The Somalia Experience) by Imeobong(op): 2:35pm On Mar 07, 2010
Nigeria is witnessing an awful institutional collapse similar to the conditions that preceded the failure of Somalia, yet with all the potentials of being worse than the Somali experience.

Former Head of State, Maj-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), painted this portrait of a troubled nation on Friday in Lagos, at the launch of a book, The Oguntade Legacy, a review of major judgements written by retiring Supreme Court Justice George Oguntade.

He said: “It is the Bar and the Bench that would save Nigeria.
“We are going through a constitutional collapse in Nigeria. In my own part of the country, people no longer go to the police when they are hurt. They say, ‘God dey,’” Buhari said.

Buhari referred to his previous comments about the “Somalisation of Nigeria,” and said it “should be taken seriously by the Nigerian elite.”
He compared the political composition of the elite in Somalia – prior to the failure of the state – to the political situation in Nigeria and explained that Somalia began its slide to abyss when the elite decided to run riot with the laws of the land and the popular will. This dangerous glide that began about 18 years ago has today earned Somalia the status of a failed state, he emphasised.
“I am warning the Nigerian elite through this medium to think very seriously. We are much more vulnerable than Somalia,” Buhari cautioned.

On his presence at the book launch chaired by former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Alfa Belgore, and whose guest list looked like a Who’s Who of top Nigerian legal, political, and business luminaries, Buhari said, “I’m here to pay my respects to a person of conscience, Justice Oguntade.”

Referring to Oguntade as a thorough and fair-minded judge, the former Head of State said the judge and Justice Osifo “were giving us a lot of hope; when I say we, I mean the opposition.”
Speaking at the event, Retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, Alpha Belgore said the judiciary is the most stable arm of government in Nigeria and a means of gauging the pulse of the polity.

According to the former CJN, “Every human being has two arms. But our constitution is peculiar, it has three arms: the executive the legislature, and the judiciary. The first two really cry out to the public every time, ‘elect me, elect me’. The third one hasn’t got the mandate of the electorate at all, but it is the most stable, that is the judiciary. Because of that stability, if the country succeeds, it is because the judiciary is stable; if it is in turmoil, it is because the judiciary is unstable. Because of this, if the country should collapse, it may as well be due to the judiciary. The judiciary must be strong, resolute, honest, incorruptible and definite, in that order, I will say.

“If we have that, there will be a powerful judiciary.”
He expressed displeasure at the use of quota system to fill vacancies at the Supreme Court “That portion of belief in quota in the constitution should be expunged.

“I don’t mind where the Head of State would come from. But first and foremost, he must be honest, fearing God, and loving this country. So that if five of his ministers will come from one place, if they are the best people to run the country, so be it.”
Commenting on what he called Oguntade’s diligence on the Bench, Belgore said: “Even when you disagree with him, you will appreciate the industry he has put in his judgement.”

Top judicial officers that attended the book launch include Court of Appeal President, Justice Isa Ayo Salami; Supreme Court Justices Tabai and Ono-genn; Justice R.C. Agbo; Justice Gana Mshelia; Justice Bode Rose-Vivour; Justice P.A. Galinje; Justice Roseline Nwodo; Justice S.I. Sawawa; Justice Kekere Ekun and former Justice Minister, Chief Bola Ajibola (SAN).

PoliticsYar’adua: Ibb, Obj In Power Play by Imeobong(op): 7:09am On Mar 07, 2010
More facts have emerged over the presiden-tial crisis occasioned by the ill health of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as Sunday Tribune can authoritatively report that an intense power play is ongoing between the duo of Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo over the ways and means of resolving the political logjam.

Investigations by the Sunday Tribune revealed that the two generals are backing rival camps in the crisis with the Babangida group supporting the ailing President while the Ota caucus backs the emergence of Jonathan as substantive president after the planned impeachment of the sick president even as the issue at stake extends to the question of who emerges the Nigerian president in 2011.

It was gathered that for the past two or so years of Yar’Adua’s presiden-cy, Babangida was the strategic adviser, a situation that had edged former President Oba-sanjo out of the power equation, leading to the apparent inability of the Ota group to influence direction of governmen-tal policies and pro-grammes.

The matter was said to have gotten to a head when the Yar’Adua presidency commenced systematic trials of key figures who served in the Obasanjo presidency namely Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Mallam El-Rufai, Chief Fani Kayode among others, a development said to have angered many pro-Obasanjo forces especially when it was also noticed that the ailing president was already positioning Babangida for a leading role in the 2011 race.

This was the frosty level of relationship between the two camps when the president suddenly took ill last November, a develop-ment the Ota group allegedly saw as an opportunity to regain lost grounds and reclaim the presidency first in acting capacity and later in substantive position ahead of the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the 2011 general elections.

Reports indicated that as the anti-Yar’Adua group went on the offensive riding on the wave of public goodwill, the Yar’Adua group was said to have quickly regrouped with a direct strategy of ensuring that no legal basis was created to support any impeachment bid in case of prolonged absence of the ailing president.

The group was said to have feared that if any of the delegations sent to Saudi Arabia were able to see Yar’Adua, a sufficient ground would have been laid for the impeachment of the president by forces loyal to the Ota group.

Sunday Tribune was told that this was the immediate reason why all efforts to see the president in Saudi Arabia was aborted. The president was said to be truly in a sorry state then and that any of the dignitaries would have concluded that the president was incapa-citated.

It was learnt that the Ota group fought back by engineering the Ministers‘ trip to Saudi Arabia thereby boxing the president‘s men into a corner as failure of this group to see him and their report would have immediately triggered incapacitation motion within the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the impeachment process within the National Assembly.

The IBB caucus was said to have fought back by plotting the immediate movement of the president to Nigeria in a commando manner that outsmarted the Ota camp which was oblivious of the plan until the president arrived Nigeria, a move said to have disrupted the impeachment bid that would have followed the ministers‘ visit to Saudi Arabia.

Top sources told the Sunday Tribune that the president’s arrival in Nigeria was a top security operation that was only known to very few within the security establishment. The pro-Yar’Adua camp were reportedly afraid that the anti Yar’Adua group may “eliminate“ the president as a matter of last resort.
“The forces that want him out are powerful and entrenched. We are afraid of elimination plot. So we took extra precaution“, a top flight source involved in the power play noted.

Sunday Tribune learnt that the pro-Yar’Adua group also did not trust the acting president especially after the widely reported visit of OBJ to him soon after he was confirmed as acting president and some decisions he was noted to have taken.

Our investigations further revealed that when Yar’Adua arrived the presidential villa, his group decided to maintain restriction because of what the source called the fear of “handshake poison“,noting,“we know how this thing work and we restricted visitation until the president is fully back on his feet“

A startling revelation secured by the Sunday Tribune was that two top aides of the president allegedly proceeded to Minna few minutes after the president‘s arrival, fuelling speculations that the arrival was coordinated by the IBB caucus.

An elaborate security strategy was said to have been put in place to physically secure the president. His Loyalists, who knew his true state of health said he is out of bed and will eventually resume office in the nearest future.

The group, having secured the president was said to have proceeded to blocking any move to initiate impeachment proceedings relying on the House of Represen-tatives Speaker, Hon. Dimeji Bankole and key elements within the Senate.

The group then moved into the camp of the governors who also backed the no-impeachment strategy of the Babangida group as reflected in the resolution of the Governors‘ Forum last week.

It was learnt that the real game plan of the group is to ensure that Yar’Adua returns to preside over the PDP Convention and the 2011 general election, thereby determining who eventually secured the PDP presidential ticket.

This, it was learnt, the reason the presidential election is being proposed for January next year and the real reason why the PDP will soon roll out a timetable for the 2011 general elections.

Sunday Tribune was, however, told that Babangida would not run in next year’s general election but, would alongside the ailing president, determine who secured the PDP ticket with the governors of the PDP.

Investigations showed that the decision of the governors was a major setback for the Ota group even as the Ota camp has relaunched its offensive with the acting president being prodded to take major decisions that would weaken the IBB group and change the power equation before the president recovers.

CrimeKilled Because Of Laptop by Imeobong(op): 6:33pm On Mar 03, 2010
Culled from http://www.saharareporters.com/articles/external-contrib/5357--they-killed-him-for-a-laptop-the-charles-umogo-ogbolu-story.html

In the early hours of 25th February 2010, a 25 year old Nigerian left his home holding on to the only thing left for ordinary citizens of a country in a state of disorder and that is hope. It was another day to get to work and earn a living, he waved good bye to close family friends and a neighbour he met him around the corridor as he hurried to get out of the house and beat the early morning traffic rush. As he left, the young Nigerian waved and made what would be his last known words on earth “see you later” if only he had known he would not be seeing any of his family, friends or neighbours, he would have probably missed that day’s work. As it is with many unreported cases of armed robbery in Nigeria, the young Nigerian was accosted at the Idi Iroko bus stop whilst waiting for a bus, his assailants demanded he hand over his lap top and other belongings, not done with taken his possession, they shot him at close range for a laptop that was worth less than two hundred British Pounds, approximately fifty thousand Nigerian Naira.

This is the unfortunate story of Charles Umogo-Ogbolu. He is not a Nigerian politician or a known public figure, so the reader would be forgiven for wondering why his story and that of others like him do not make the front pages of the national media or that he did not get a mention in the evening news. Horrific deaths of ordinary citizens happen so frequently that we have come to accept them as part of the sacrifice that comes with living in a country like Nigeria. Sometimes we even comment that after all people get robbed even in civilised countries but we fail to mention that efforts are made to find the killers.

What is even more sickening, is that on the day Charles was gunned down, the noise of the gun shot sent nearby witnesses running for cover, and by the time they recovered and came back to the spot of the heinous crime, his fellow country men could do nothing but watch as he shrieked in pain, screaming for help with his life slowly ebbing away.

His last sights were the sorrowful faces of his countrymen who could not do anything knowing that they were probably going to be the next Charles. Even if they had rushed the victim to the hospital they may be asked to produce a police report and no one would dare go to the police fearing that they may be arrested for witnessing a robbery. So we are a society whose soul is snuffed out by a state of helplessness.

Absurdly the same spot where Charles was gunned down, the Idi Iroko bus stop is known to the police authorities and the Onigbongo Local Development Area as a crime hot spot. Just a few days after Charles was shot, residents claimed that several attacks though not fatal, had taken place at the same bus stop. The Anthony Village police station is less than 5 minutes away from the Idi Iroko bus stop but amazingly there is never any police presence in that neighbourhood.

The Idi Iroko incident is not an isolated one; there are many unreported crimes in Nigeria. In August 2009, more than 20 Nigerians travelling on the Sagamu-Ore-Benin expressway lost their lives when they were crushed to death during a robbery, on the same day there was another report of 12 people shot by armed robbers along Ijebu Ode – Ore road.

In the past couple of weeks the World Wide Web has been overflowing with photographs of armed robbers allegedly ordering a luxurious driver to run over passengers who are made to stretch out on the road. If the last incidents is verified to be true, then we have lost all sense of decency and the government and those entrusted with the protection of lives and properties must up their game and live up to expectation.

No citizen of Nigeria should feel insecure and live in a permanent state of fear. The ill-fated killing of Charles Umogo-Ogbolu is unwarranted and could have been avoided if those in authority do what is right, providing the police with adequate equipment, a firm gun control mechanism that will check both the legal and illegal importation of large and small scale arms into Nigeria and tackling corruption which fuels youth unemployment and a social decadence. Insecurity is a major hindrance to growth and development and the earlier those in authority see the link the better for the Nigerian society.

Culled from Vanguard of 03/03/2010

Vanguard can now confirm that ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua has been moved from the ambulance from where he was clinically isolated since his sudden arrival last Wednesday, into the Presidential Wing of Aso Villa.
Also, Acting President Goodluck Jonathan is set to see Yar’Adua this week, for the first time since he left for treatment in Saudi Arabia last November 23, Vanguard can reveal, authoritatively.

An Aso Rock source, who dropped the hint could, however, not provide much details of the expected meeting between the Acting President and the ailing President at press time. Asked whether it is true that Yar’Adua was being held for medical attention in the ambulance, the source declined to go further.

But, another competent source told our men that “Yar’Adua was eventually moved from inside the ambulance into the room.” The source said whereas he could not confirm the time of the meeting between Jonathan and Yar’Adua, he could “confirm that Yar’Adua was moved into the room.”

Reps back Akunyili’s utterances

The House of Representatives, yesterday, voted out a motion seeking to condemn recent utterances in the mass media attributed to the Minister of Information and Communication, Prof. Dora Akunyili, to indicate that it saw nothing wrong with her condemnation of a cabal, which she had kept saying, was lying about the health of President Umaru Yar’Adua.
However, after a two and half hour close-door session, the House came out with mild resolution, saying, “the House of Representatives, having reviewed the state of the nation resolved to concentrate only on those things that will encourage the peace, unity, stability and progress of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Before then, a motion by Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, PDP, Edo, which sought to condemn the deployment of troops that received President Yar’Adua, last Wednesday, was stood down, amidst protest by members.

Also, a motion by Hon. Samuel Sejoro, AC, Lagos, asking that all persons denying Nigerian officials opportunity of seeing Yar’Adua should be brought to book, was disallowed by the Speaker, also amidst protest by majority of the members.

When proceedings were stalled for about 11 minutes as a result of angry murmuring on the floor, Bankole, said: “I have no choice than to call for an executive session.” The gallery was, therefore, cleared of the Press and Assembly staff around 11.41 a.m.

Signs that yesterday’s session would not be ordinary showed when some members told the Press last Monday, that about 170 of them would move to insist that those holding Yar’Adua “captive” must be forced to free him for the Nigerians to see.

But, at the beginning of plenary, Hon. Mayor Eze, PDP, Imo, raised a point of order bothering on matter of urgent national importance from Order 8 of the House Rule. He said: “Mr. Speaker, in the past few days, the Press has been awash with unguarded, uncouth utterances by the Minister of Communication, saying that a cabal has hijacked the President. Mr Speaker, this ….” The Speaker cut him short, and asked him to “approach the chair.”

The Speaker whispered something into Eze’s ear for about a minute. Eze, nodded approvingly several times, turned and walked back to his seat. About five minutes later, the Speaker called the House to order. “Now, Hon. Eze”, said the Speaker, “you may need to proceed.”

This time, Eze was less forceful in delivery. He said: “My colleagues, I want us to know that any utterance that would heat up the polity should not be encouraged. We have passed a resolution empowering the Acting President to assume executive powers as commander-in-chief. No one has stopped him from working, and as such, for any minister to keep adding tension by her utterances, she should be condemned by the House.”

When the Speaker put the matter to vote, those against Eze, were clearly in the majority. Thus the Speaker ruled in favour of the opposition, to signal the beginning of what looked like a rebellion at yesterday’s plenary session. But, hardly had he brought down the gavel, than another member called out, “Point of order, Mr. Speaker”

Breach of privileges

When recognized, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon hinged his point of order on Rule 5 of the House Rules. Obahiagbon said his privileges as a Nigerian and as Federal Legislature were breached by what happened at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport last Wednesday night

He said: “This House passed a resolution which made the Vice President of this country Acting President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces. But, when our ailing President was brought in into the country from Saudi Arabia, there was massive deployment of troops, all with no consultation, or with the authority of the commander in chief.

“Mr Speaker, this is a breach of section 288(1) and section 8 of the Armed Forces Act. I therefore want …”
After about five minutes, the Speaker again called the House to order.

An interesting development then ensued. “Now, Hon. Patrick”, the Speaker said, “do you want to continue with your point-of-order?” he asked. “No, Mr. Speaker”, he said, “I want to defer to the Chair.”

This evoked loud exclamations from the floor. “No, you don’t have to refer to me please…”, but he was cut short by a loud shout of “point-of-order, Mr. Speaker.”

Without even getting the nod, Hon. Samuel Sejoro, AC, Lagos, started. “Mr Speaker,” he said: “last Wednesday night, the President of this country was smuggled into the country like a ghost in the night. My President, I heard, he is being detained against his wish and that of the Nigerian people.”

But, the Speaker continued to ask him to approach the chair, which he ignored, saying: “I want this House to invite Hajia Turai Yar’Adua and all those detaining the President to appear before the House and explain why they are breaching section 308 of the constitution of Nigeria.”

In a rather hilarious reply, Hon. Sejoro, said, “Mr Speaker, I am not approaching any Chair”, which led many members into laughter, as Sejoro took his seat, in what looked liked a planned rebellion against the Speaker’s stand on Yar’Adua
Several other calls on points-of-order stalled proceedings for about ten minutes. The Speaker then ordered: “I am left with no choice than to call for an executive session. Please clear the gallery.”

The Reps emerged after two and half hours to announce the resolution of the House through the Leader of the Reps, Hon. Tunde Akogun, PDP, Edo. He said: “The House of Representatives, having reviewed the state of the nation, resolved to concentrate on only those things that will encourage peace, unity, stability and progress of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Juliet and Charles got married five years ago. Both were blessed with two kids. But Charles left the country in search of greener pasture. While he was away for six months, Juliet was left in the dark as Charles did not leave any forwarding address . Without words from her man, Juliet gave up hope of seeing Charles. But Charles resurfaced five years later, a different man: Charles was mad!

What would she do? she wondered. Should she forgive him and perhaps, take him back as her repentant husband? Should she turn her back on him forever? After a deep thought, Juliet took him back after consulting with her family members who even assisted her to restore Charles’ sanity.

But few weeks after regaining sanity, Charles showed the beast in him, beating her black and blue, and sometimes, forcing his way into her at his own will. He even lost feeling for the children. Now, Juliet is confused. For love, should she continue to tolerate her man? Should she show him the way out? Should she run away with their kids? Should she stay in the marriage in compliance with the biblical injunction of for better, or worse?

If you do qualify under the "list of 38", you will be looking at anything in between 6months to 12months to get your visa. There are a few tips that can help you get your visa in 6 months, if you avoid some common pitfalls folks fall into. But this site isn't the best place to get those. There are specialist immigration forums for those, and it is absolutely free. All the info you need is on the cic.gc.ca site posted above, but there is a whole lot of info on it. You have various resources like the guides, bulletins, manuals, updates etc, and it can be overwhelming if you don't know which info is relevant for your category and could take weeks of reading for you to really understand the whole process. If you have the time to go thru all the details, you can do it yourself; if not, and funding isn't an issue - then you can engage a consultant, but pls make sure its an OISC registered one in good standing.

You will do well not to go by hearsay, but strictly by what you see on the cic site. Each visa office has its specific documentation requirements, which gets updated from time to time. Many have fallen foul by going ahead to do what their friend did 6months earlier only to get their application rejection/delayed.

Oh yes, you need to include your wife and kids on the forms, even if they will not accompany you to canada at this time. You have to disclose the fact that you are married with children, but you may elect on the forms that they would not be travelling with you, however they all need to be examined(whether travelling or not) and any of them found inadmissible automatically disqualifies you the main applicant.

You may check the sites below to see how others in your shoes are faring, and check out the threads of nigerian applicants.

You can also look at the immigration.ca site someone mentioned earlier.
Any more questions, just post,
Thanks very much, just registered with the immigration forum, but they are not allowing me to post link. Anyway, you have been of tremendous help once again thanks and God bless

Nigeria has become the laughing stock of the continent because we only preach what benefits us.
I am sure the Hausa's would have been preaching impeach, impeach since last year if it was a Yoruba/Igbo/Niger Deltan that is playing this hide and seek game.
The drama is almost coming to an end because at the end of the day either Yaradua would stand up on his feet and address Nigeria and resign honourably or he will be impeached. He can make our history better by being the first President to be impeached. Afterall, Abacha is the first Nigerian leader to die in Power.
Well said my brother, i agree with you.

Politics“Jonathan Meets Umaru Musa Yar'adua”, Shocked Yar’adua Can’t Talk Or Move by Imeobong(op): 1:16pm On Mar 01, 2010
Source:

http://www.saharareporters.com/real-news/sr-headlines/5321-jonathan-meets-umya-shocked-yaradua-cant-talk-or-move.html

Nigeria’s gravely sick ruler, Umaru Yar’Adua, can barely move or communicate, according to new revelations about his grim medical condition given to Saharareporters. Mr. Yar’Adua was smuggled back to Nigeria on Wednesday morning under cover of darkness, a move described by a diplomatic source as a desperate gamble by his wife and her cabal to hold on to power.

The latest findings buttress exclusive reports by Saharareporters as far as two years ago that Churg Strauss Syndrome, a debilitating auto–immune disease, was ravaging Yar’Adua. The syndrome has been complicated recently by Yar’Adua’s lung cancer, according to our sources.

There are signs that the game may be drawing to a close for Yar’Adua’s greedy and ambitious wife, Hajia Turai, as service chiefs in the Nigerian Armed Forces requested that “Acting President” Goodluck Jonathan be allowed to see Yar’Adua. A source knowledgeable about the happenings in the Presidential Villa, where Yar’adua is holed up, told Saharareporters that Goodluck Jonathan has finally seen Yar’adua in the company of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Sarki Mukthar. Our source said the two men were shocked to behold Yar’Adua’s wasted Yar’Adua body and dire condition. He was not only barely conscious but incapable of conversation or movement.

A different report emerged tonight denying that Jonathan has physically sighted Yar’Adua. But our presidency source asserted that Jonathan did make the "top secret" visit to Yar’Adua. The source added that Jonathan was so affected by Yar’Adua’s condition that the acting president showed symptoms of a fainting spell. He was reportedly “stabilized’ by Saudi doctors attending to Yar’Adua

On Saturday, according to our sources, Turai engaged in another gimmick by informing the aviation assistants at the presidency that she would want to take her husband out again to a foreign hospital for further medical treatment. She was politely turned down when the authorities insisted they would have to see Yar’adua first or receive his resignation letter before any application for use of the presidential jet can be considered.

However, Turai and the remainder of the kitchen cabinet have decided on an extensive manipulation of the public and the Jonathan-led federal executive. In addition to strenuous efforts to prevent any form of visitation to Yar’Adua, the cabal has embarked on a well-oiled campaign in the northern parts of the country to portray Jonathan as an anti-North president who has diverted funds meant to develop the North to his region, the Niger Delta region. As expected, that campaign is catching fire in certain parts of the north. The group has also decided to use the Nigerian media to tie Jonathan to former President Olusegun Obasanjo whose hypocrisy and corruption have earned him widespread unpopularity. Obasanjo was the one who imposed a sickly Yar’Adua as “president”.

Turai Yar’Adua and her group – including former Attorney General Michael Aondoakaa, former Governor James Ibori, economic adviser Tanimu Kurfi, and Agriculture Minister Sayyad Abba Ruma – hope their anti-Jonathan campaign would provoke an uprising in the north and a move by the Nigerian military to truncate Jonathan’s shot at the presidency for the remainder of Yar’Adua’s tenure, which ends in May 2011.

But sources close to Turai describe her as “desperate and scared in the face of national and international resistance to her sinister plans to maintain a hold on power in the name of her incapacitated husband.”

The sources said Turai has already been told that she has to let a broader team of senior officials, including the service chiefs, to see Yar’Adua in whatever form or shape he might be by Tuesday, or face the impending consequences of having him declared incapacitated by the Federal Executive Council.

British and American diplomats are known to be piling pressure on Yar’Adua’s associates and cronies by threatening to impose sanctions should they refuse to let him resign from office.  America and the United Kingdom have made a series of statements suggesting Yar’Adua’s fragile health condition will prevent him from returning to office, and by speaking anonymously to the international media.

Even today, Jonathan received a letter personally signed by the UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, asking him to stand firm.

In an interesting development, a source told Saharareporters today that Turai has admitted that Yar’Adua cannot talk yet, but that he may be able to talk by Tuesday.

That being the eve of the next FEC meeting, analysts say that may be the beginning of another strategy aimed at another BBC-style interview, in which a voice is heard which claims to belong to Yar’Adua.  This week’s FEC meeting is expected to be of great importance because last week’s was aborted by Yar’Adua’s return.

Saharareporters has been told that there are now enough votes in the council to declare Yar’Adua incapacitated. But a set of ministers, who maintain some loyalty to Turai, are reportedly working on a plan to persuade Yar’Adua’s wife to agree to his resignation instead of facing the humiliation of a declaration that he is incapacitated.

Our sources said Turai, who is highly superstitious, spends hours each day consulting with highly paid marabouts who continue to assure her that her husband would recover.

Christianity EtcHow Pastors Wooed Their Wives by Imeobong(op): 3:29pm On Feb 28, 2010
Culled from Sundat Tribune 28/02/2010

Written by Olu Osunde

As the world celebrates love today, Tribune Church looks at the love life of some pastors who spoke on how they met their wives.

I have been following her from the day I met her at fellowship - Bishop Francis Wale Oke
I met her in one of the Christian fellowships in the school. You know, God is wonderful and does His things in mysterious ways. Before God led me to her, she had already been spoken to by God concerning me. For that reason she could not turn me down.

She just said well, God had spoken to me and from the outset, I began to follow her just as a I still follow her till today (laugh).

'My daughter wooed this new wife for me' - Sadela
I was the last to marry among my peers in those days, all because I wanted to be very careful in going into it. Nevertheless, the marriage didn’t work as expected and all the seven children that were products of the marriage died mysteriously, including my wife, their mother, whom I described as a witch who killed all these children. Because of this, I was so scared of marriage that it took me another 30 years before my second marriage, this marriage was consummated when I was 65 years. But after the demise of my second wife I decided not to go into any relationship again but my daughter had to marry this new wife for me to be my companion at old age. So, this is the first time they will marry for me. A lot of women showed interest in getting married to me even at old age.

It was not love at first sight - Pastor Kayode Adekitan
THE first time I saw my wife, I said within me “I wish this sister becomes my wife!” Love at first sight you may say, but not exactly. I believe it was a result of constant seeking and praying to God for a future partner for about two years before I met her at a church programme.

As a young Christian, I believed I can marry any sister as long as she is born-again, but as I grew in the Lord and attended several marriage seminars and read books on choosing a marriage partner, I realised that God has made a specific sister (wife) for me, not just any sister and I have to seek God and let Him lead me to her (Gen. 2:18). So, I began to pray for divine connection.

The day I met my wife, I had a strange desire for her and this desire continued to grow everytime I saw her. So, I had to go back to God in prayer to know whether this feeling is from God, God confirmed my desire through the bible (Psalms 37:4-4) and other people.

It was after I was sure that God was leading me to her that I began to seek to know more about her through an elderly Christian friend who introduced me to her in one of our programmes in the church. We also got to know ourselves more through church programmes and activities in our church then — Surulere Baptist Church, especially the youth programmes.

One day, I was encouraged by this elder Christian friend (Deacon Samuel Akintola) to meet her (my wife) and let her know my desire and this I did (sometimes in 1987). I met her and just told her that I believe she’s my future partner and that she should pray and let me know her response.

After several weeks of waiting, she called me one day and said she agreed to my request. We got married two years later, 2nd September, 1989. To God be the glory.

I wooed her constantly with as little as a bottle of yoghurt, suya, etc — Pastor Afolayan AyoOluwa
I believe marriage ought to be a lifetime of companionship and frienship. It ought to have a lot of qualities like kindness, trust and benefits of doubts just to mention a few.

My wife had always been my friend. When the thought of having her as my wife came up, it wasn’t difficult communicate this to her.

I believe that the most effective tool for wooing your wife is your character as an individual. It is obvious that no one desires trash but rather treasure. Therefore as much as I had capacity to do I tried to make her life better, fuller, richer than I met it.

I never believed in cajoling a woman for love. My philosophy had always been that my wife will love me for who I am not who she or society wants me to be. Therefore all my activities to woo my wife were purely based on my natural personality and ablility to add value to anyone I come across.

I strongly believe that wooing has a bigger role to play after marriage than before marriage. The reason for this is that the tendency for marriage to become a burden is very high. The excitement is lost in the first three years. The woman easily becomes fatigued by the responsibility of marriage and while she is still in the home, her mind is fantasising about her freedom of spinsterhood.

A man has the responsibility of wooing her out of this mental enclave to have a fully functional home to which you are excited to come. Without your continuous fanning of the fire of love, your mate will become cold and uninteresting.

To ensure that this doesn’t occur from time to time I go home with surprise gifts. These are not expensive gifts. One bottle of yoghurt and a stick of suya says a lot; that I have you on my mind. I also help out with the house chores. There are times we eat out and relive our courtship.

It took a whole year of struggle and yanga to make her say yes - Dr. Solomon Ishola, General Secretary, Baptist Convention
GOD led me to her as a pastor. By the grace of God, after a year and a lot of struggle and ‘yanga around’ me, she said yes to my proposal. We met during a fellowship.

I used to woo women in a playboy-like manner — Pastor Mark Valentine
I’ve been a play boy for a long time before I gave my life to Christ. As a playboy, I was using the idea to choose a lady. There was a time I was going out with a lady, thinking she will be my wife but all of a sudden I just noticed that we could not go out anymore without any misunderstanding. But there was a time a friend of mine invited me to a church to pray and when we were praying, the pastor told me that I might lose the person that God has chosen for me, if I’m not careful. After the prayer, I planned to go out for valentine. However, I met her two days to the valentine day. Meeting her was nice, I didn’t even know she was the choice of God for me and that day I heard a voice that said “this is your heartrob.” That was the first time I will hear the voice of God and I never knew the meaning of that word. That night, I took her phone number because there was no GSM at that time, but there was land line, and I called her with the number she gave me. I just noticed something when we started going, what I noticed was that her relationship with me was increasing my faith and was getting me closer to God, that was how I got married to her.

The way God converted her for me was more spiritual — Pastor Tope Omotoye, Ukraine
I think what really was dramatic but highly spiritual was not how I met her but how God answered my prayer and suddenly turned her from being a muslim to a christian.

“She was a muslim which even means, she was a believer while I was then unbeliever” (laugh) as at the time we met, I was still living my own life.

After God called me, I was on the street one day when I heard the voice of the holy spirit. He said now, you can talk to me, such voice then was still new to me and I said, God, I am on the street and if I start talking now, people would think I am mad.

But then, I said, God, if you really called me, my wife is a muslim, if I preach to people, they would ask me to go and preach to my wife first. So I said, let my wife be born again in three months time then I will be sure you called me.

Three months later, she became born again, I did n’t even tell her anything. Today, though we are both doctors, she has taken over the job while I pastor the sheep.

I kicked off by inviting her to my house — Pastor John Odejayi
I met her in Lagos. She was in school in Ogbomosho while I was in Lagos.

When the Lord convinced me that she was made for me, I invited her to my house and that was after a month. She prayed about it and she also got convinced. Not quite long, we got married.

We got interested in each other at church — Pastor Seyi Faloju
I met my wife when we were in school, I was the president pastor of my fellowship then. She came in as a jambite into the University of Ibadan. She was a member of my church in school and I was in 400 level at that time. After I left school, I went to serve and later went for my masters. She was to serve in Lagos and I was also transfered to Lagos at that time.

It happened that where she was staying at that time was very close to where I was staying and we were also attending the same church in Lagos. It was in school we developed interest in each other. Initially, I never had the mind of having a relationship with her, along the line, after an interaction, the feelings came and I told her about it and she said she was going to pray about it. But it took some time before she agreed with me.
Christianity EtcFake Prophets: The Havoc They Cause by Imeobong(op): 2:24pm On Feb 28, 2010
Source: Sunday Tribune 28/02/2010

The office of a prophet which is one of the five fold ministry is a very sensitive one. Scripturally, prophets are called and not made and their assassignments are special. However, the havoc caused by some of today’s prophets has reached an alarming state, write OLU OSUNDE and MODUPE GEORGE.

TWO years after the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Osaigbovo, the mother-in-law apparently dissatisfied with the son’s wife’s inability to get pregnant as she long desired, Donald being her only son, she came up with mounted pressure that almost ended up the marriage.

So, while the young couple were trying hard to bear the pressure within, it turned out difficult for them to cope with the snide comments of those who lived in the neighbourhood most of which came at a slightest provocation.

To stave off the pressure, Donald during one of his visits to a white garment church where he was invited for an annual programme, got influenced by a prophecy he heard being related to a non-member of the church. The prophecy, he discovered, provoked tears from the recipient sensing that a truth must have been let out.

At home, he convinced the wife about the need to take another step of faith towards resolving the issue of the seeming barrenness. He spoke glowingly well of the church he visited suggesting that they jointly see the apostle who himself a prophet and who might find out spiritually, what the problem was.

The wife with a streak of suppressed disappointment in her face sensing it could lead to a change of their denomination reluctantly accepted to go with him – if that, she said, would reduce the tension and bring lasting joy at the end.

The Apostle, after psyching them and discovering that they were desperate, demanded to be given a certain amount of money for some spiritual materials which he said would be ready in three days for pick by the couple,

At the appointed date, a special oil was applied to the head of Donald who had been under instruction by the Apostle not to eat or drink for the three days the materials stayed in the church in Minna, Niger State.

On getting home, Donald became mentally deranged after about two weeks and the wife had to invite the Pastor.

When the problem got worse, the Apostle secretly enjoined Donald’s wife to bring him to the church with some money saying it was the handiwork of the devil who had planned either to make the wife barren or in alternative destroy Donald. But sensing that the husband may have been hypnotised by the pastor, the wife contacted the family of Donald who promptly swung into action bringing the Apostle to reverse the spell.

At the end, the Apostle prostrating, begged for forgiveness while the couple in annoyance retrieved all the musical instruments they had happily bought for the church saying they could not buy instruments for a devil’s church.

In a similar circumstance, the fear a self acclaimed Prophet of God created in the mind of a young woman Eunice, surname withheld is yet to subside as the lady now lives separately from her husband.

Mrs. Eunice had gone to seek spiritual help from the prophet for an undisclosed ailment when she was told that the husband of about seven years was after her life. Till now, she is still being haunted by that prophecy as she had to run away from the house for her dear life even when the husband really does not mean harm.

“For about eight years now, I live as if I have never had a family or home of my own said an Estate agent, Mr. Fowowe Olorunbe. I have five children and a loving wife who have for no reason than my daughter got healed in a church, abandoned me for the church. At 65, I now cook and draw water from the well myself while my children some of them in higher institution, do not know where I live. Those who have clocked marriageable age amongst them are married out by the pastor of the church who they now see as their father.”

“You can’t believe that in the process of the crisis, my wife built a house without my knowledge and only the pastor now has unrestricted access to the house.

In Nigeria today, many of these fake prophets and prophetesses abound. While many of them are stationed in their mushroom churches they mostly build at back streets most times at the outskirts of a town they live, there are those who officiate in big churches alongside the pastors.

Although one cannot rule out the fact that some of them actually churn out accurate prophecies, there still however exist practical evidence of those who have been discovered to have washed their faces with charms so they can see what ordinary eyes cannot see. “The clear difference between them and those actually empowered by God is usually their inability to pray to avert the danger they may see because the devil, the proponent of the danger uses them,” said Prophetess Agnes Ogunniyi of the Halleluya Church of Christ.

“So, because they are evil, the little gift of God they may have are also polluted. Such people always end up doing evil as they are always concerned with how to trick people to make money, she said.

Apart from the seers who merely deal with individual, there are those whose predictions cover every human life endeavour. They talk about politics, sports, entertainments, economy and some other trivial matters that one would ordinarily never expect that God would talk about. Most times, their prophetic activities do bring to question whether God really care about two football teams playing football as to inform a prophet about who should win or get bothered about two politicians both of them christians contesting for a political position. God however, could in such circumstance, if He is really interested in one of them, tell his prophet if He so desires but would ensure that what He says comes to pass. If He has any reason to change His decision, he will also tell the prophet before the conclusion of the process because, God is not flippant, says Woleader Dele Akande of the Celestial Church of Christ.

A situation where a prophet pronounced God’s intention to the world and later seeks to justify why what he said never happened is usually not of God. In fact, that is how to identify false prophet, he explained.

A false prophet is one who believes that the precise timing of a prophesy can change after previously putting a date on it. They often say that the event will still happen but of course, it never does. In such circumstance, the prophecy could be said to be false says an anonymous commentator on the Christian site on the internet.

Speaking further, the commentator wondered why Christians accept these false teachings as presented, never questioning the prophets they rely on for truth about their lives. “We see Christians opening up schools to teach people how to become prophets” adding that, the founders of these schools and their students claim that prophetic gifts are learned from self efforts and practice. Usually what you hear from these self proclaimed church prophets is flowering speech that speak to the fleshy desires of those who love to hear such.

The scripture says, “by their fruits ye shall know them.” Again 2 Peter 2 : 1 says, but there were also fake prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who brought them, bringing swift distraction on themselves.

Prophets are often thought of as those who predict the future. They are primarily sent to proclaim God’s message and this is often to denounce sins. They also warn against the coming judgment of God with their messages. Jonah was one of the prophets sent by God to the people of Nineveh, to warn them against unrighteous living and weakness. The message resulted into a hundred per cent success because the people repented from their sins.

God sent prophets with warnings because of His love and mercy and He always seeks to provide a way of escaping evil. However, despite the fact that prophets are sent from God and are God’s special vessels, He warned His people in Matt. 7:15 and I John 4 verse 1—6 to beware of false prophets who come in sheep clothings but inwardly are wolves , Behold, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone into the world. By this you know the spirit of God; every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.

The truth is, if God Himself came to earth and men accepted Him as such, then there would be no need for faith. God would have proved Himself to exist. We learn by faith and not by sight that God exists. Therefore, prophets are placed on earth so that they can testify of God and His son Jesus Christ. We are supposed to strengthen our faith by their words and by the testimony of the Holy Ghost.

According to Pastor Seyi Faloju, of Grace Point International; from the beginning there was a warning about false prophets. God warned His people to beware of fake prophets who come in sheep clothings while they are wolves inwardly. They are all over the places. Most of these prophets didn’t start out as fake prophets but because of what to eat and the hanker for fame they started invoking and consulting wrong spirits.

Today, most christians are no more spiritual, they are looking for prophets to tell them what the future hold for them. They believe just anything and in anybody.

Moreover, the economic situation in the country has affected many prophets. They are hungry and they need food and money to keep body and soul together, so, they go to any length to decieve people with visions and prophesies that are not true.”
