Career / Re: Subsea, Mud, Reservoir, Pipeline, Petroleum, Drilling Engineers & Supervisors Zone by Insanity(m): 5:10pm On Dec 03, 2012
leki2: I need sincere advise on these decisions I am about to take. I intend to study Msc in Subsea Engineering in a Uk university, although the money involve is huge, i'm stil trusting that funds will be made available.

To further enhance my desire to study this course, i bought the Subsea engineering handbook which I've been reading and it has been quite a read. Almost like I'm in school already. Alright the question I want to ask engineers who are already practicing in the field is this?

1. Can I have a career as a ROV pilot technician without having to study msc? Although the training fee is high and i stil have to travel abroad for the training but it's less expensive than a full masters program.

2. To have better understanding of ROV's, do I have to study Subsea engineering? Will my depth of knowledge in Subsea systems give a better grasp of ROV's?

In the Subsea Engineering handbook I'm reading, Rov's systems are covered but not like the way the training company promised their superior training that I'll undergo in 3weeks.

And from training company's email, i am told that i'd be highly sought after and that my wage from a month job would still cover the expenses from the training. The training would cost close to $14362 which includes BOSIET certification and another oversea medical certification.

What should I do? Do this course and forget the higher cost consuming Msc or trust God for the finance for both? I really need a mentor in the subsea industry.

Thanks.

Which training school are you talking of? Is it IBC academy? 'Cuz i'll like to know more about their certificate courses.

Israelmossaic: Banquet hall causing uproar. But let's be objective about this. Who wouldn't give Villa a facelift if elected as president? All facilities in the Villa must reflect new realities. Let's be fair, N2b isn't too much for us to be fighting over. Case closed

The only OPEC country with no full capacity working refinery and you are here saying ,'N2b isn't too much for us to be fighting over'. N2b to construct a new hall when the old one is still functional, why don't they renovate the old one to meet their so called international standard. Direct the funds to the construction of a refinery that will have a major impact in our economy and still employ >20000 people. Well, (in GEJ's voice),"i don't give a damn". Absolute Rubbish.

Colour ME: One more thing, autocad is only good for drafting 2D. The 3D modeling in autocad is NOT flexible and can be chunky. Can't deform curves to higher degrees.

Though, people consider it first stop for any engineer or draftman. The 2011 version came with mesh modeling of 3D which can come handy but still several years behind other packages with B-spline or free form designing tools.

The 2013 is improved upon greatly. one thing you have to give to autocad is universality and general acceptability across most industries.

Another advantage of starting 3D in autocad is the tools are interchangeable with other higher Autodesk software.

E.g thesame icon in autocad is replicated in inventor, so you will have less concern with acquaintance with newer icons. The UI is similar with other Autodesk packages like Autodesk 3D civil, Autodesk inventor, Autodesk 3D plant, Autocad detailing.

i got youя email id. You'll get a mail frm me soonest. i just visited ya blog, quite interesting and awesome i have to say. i was already looking forward to meeting you till i got the info that you are not based in Lagos. Sad news. Youя designs are very diverse and dynamic, I have a lot to learn. Most firms request for proficiency in StaadPro, that's why i was leaning towards that earlier. What are youя views on that?

Secondly, am a Civil Engr that want to venture into FEED (front end engineering design) in the oil and gas industry viz subsea, pipeline, platform designs. Which design programs would you advise me to learn?

How did you start? i mean, youя blog is just soo interesting with all those designs, modeling with , if not, all the design softwares i've heard of + soo many that i didn't know existed. The building designs is what i'll love to learn personally for the freelance project i've been planning to start.
Let me stop here with the questions 'cuz i can go on and on...will ask more via email.
Thanks a million.

Colour ME: You made a wise choice by choosing Autodesk Robot. Your ability to design and analyze structures must be enhanced within few weeks. thank me later.

You should get a crack version in Lagos, computer village or get the license if you are capable of doing that.

About learning, I suggest you watch many YouTube videos you can or buy online training tutorials. You should be able learn it yourself as a trained civil engineer( Just an extension of what you already have in your brain)

I can still help you out if you want a physical contact( with payments) or start a thread here if you want FREE online training supports from me( I'm willing to teach you here from A to Z for FREE)

I'm a CAD tutor and very versed with them. I use tons of software at professional level cutting across several engineering field of architecture, civil, production, mechanical and construction. I write and run scripts, cos no single application out there is perfect. when designing houses, I literally build them in computer 3D with all dimensions of as-built. when designing structural members I teleport myself into the world of CAD. I use 3D MAX for most rendering and animation with mental ray cos Vray normally drain computer resources. I use inventor or solidworks for mechanical design.

Here is my blog,
www.bashirm13..com
Figure it out yourself.

THANKS.

Okay. i need youя email to contact you. Am in lagos right now for my auotcad 2D 3D, p&id, PDMS training.

Colour ME: Go for Autodesk Robot or Tekla structures. I never fancy StaadPro.

Autodesk Robot is very flexible and comes with a plug in that enables a direct interfacing with Autodesk Inventor, Revit and AutoCad structural Detailing.

I used StaadPro and Tekla 14 but dumped them when I discovered Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis software.

My verdict? Autodesk Robot structural analysis all the way.

Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis it is then. Can i deal with the software on my own? Or should i get a tutor for the basics? U have a link for me to download it? Or i should just buy n install via PC software dealers? just give me ya views. Thanks a lot for the info.

You can do a lot more by using one of the various structural analysis software out there. e.g.

Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis(very flexible)

Autodesk software and StaadPRO, which one is more flexible for a beginner to use? 'Cuz i want to learn any of the structural analysis softwares.

ajayioluwatobi: God bless u

Can you enlighten me on Doubly reinforced beam : 1-y2003+2-y1604, 2*25-R1005-240mm c/c - Double

It means you should place 1 high tensile 'Y' steel bar, 20mm, with the serial no '05' (refer to the structural drawing for the serial no) + 2 'Y' steel bars, 16mm, with the serial no '04' and bind for shear reinforcement with 25, 2 to 1, 10mm mild steel bar, spacing 240mm center to center.

Wrong, a draw will place jeve at 10 points same as chelsea after defeating Nordsjælland, but issue here is the goals difference. And besides it will be so obvious they settled for a draw, and that same uefa rules will give way for investigations.

That's a wrong analysis, bro. If Juve draw with sharktar, you are on level points, that's if you win ya match with d other team, 10 each abi? UEFA no b fifa world cup o, nothing like goal difference, they check youя head to head record, chelsea drew with juve @ stamford bridge and lost @ juve, so chelse out! Nothing is on chelsea at this moment, it all depends on juve - shaktar scoreline.
Career / Re: Civil Engrs In D House by Insanity(m): 7:03am On Nov 21, 2012
ajayioluwatobi: thanks. How will you calculate and know the numbers of bars needed for a slab

It depends on the slab span, that's if its a one way or two way slab, one way means you will be designing the bars in one direction ( bottom reinforcements) and two ways slab, you will be designing for both the top and bottom reinforcements ie x and y direction. You have to determine the type of slab for you to know the formular standards to use in youя design. What's the span of the slab you want to design? Length and width? If the sum of the dimensions divided by two is <4.5m (one way slab) you design for only the bottom reinforcements but if its >4.5m (two way slab) you design for both the top and bottom reinforcements. There are so many other factors to consider in structural designs, so you need to be extra careful with the number and spacing, c/c, of bars you use, it must be from youя design that you get the figures, not by guessing.

ajayioluwatobi: Nice. I dont know may be am permited to post in this thread, am a building tech student @ unilag presently in 300l, i will like to know more of reading rebars from the plan and placing of each specified bars at it passions. Asap.

Am guessing 'reinforcement steel bars' is wht you meant by 'rebars', in building structural design drawings, the members are categorized grid like, where you have eg column B2, this means column on the intersept of grid B and grid 2. This is how i illustrate the members on my structure for easy interpretation. So, you should refer to the structural drawing not the building plan for better understanding and interpretation.

Ezeufi: Just look at other species and you will get your answer why we will always cheat. Ang if your man doesn't cheat its only because you are the only option he can do.

Bro, mind how you think, it has a lot to do with who you are...with youя thinking going in that direction, imagine how dysfunctional ya fanily will be. i know that's a bit harsh, direct and blunt but is that the mentality you would like to implant in ya kids?
This argument swings in both direction, i don't think any gender is the victim here, the only victim is the spouse cheated on. I see rich dudes shagging gurls every where and undergrad gurls shagging numerous married men. i've seen gurls dating 3 men just to keep their options open and shagging their boyfriends till the wedding day, very sad , some even get pregnant and push it on the hubby that he's the father. i've seen men shagging 2 sisters and their mom, smoothly and they never found out, his gf is not among the 3. Its really sad but no gender particularly is the victim. Just pray you я never a victim, married or not.

Hahaha! Very funny!! But you can allow youя brother to be making millions through scams abi? Well, what have you to say if stri.pping is the job that gets her through college? The former is illegal while the later isn't. Mind you, there is a big difference btw stri.pping and prostitution.
You under-rate the power of a paradigm shift. Look at it this way, assuming a man, let's call him 'Mr A' is a serial rapist that gets charged to court for raping youя sister (forgive my assumed victim, its just based on youя context), mr A hires a very good lawyer 'lawyer A'. Mr A gets acquitted on grounds of no solid evidence against him, not guilty, that's the question you would love to ask Lawyer A, 'what if that was youя sister that got raped?', meaning, he shouldn't be defending a rapist. But Lawyer A was just doing his job, his work is to defend the rapist.

Ever heard of the offence of corrupting public morals? Ofcourse, no one would have cared if the act takes place in a private residence. This is a business outfit that is open to the general public. The Governor has said its a hideout for criminals too. He has a duty to prevent the growth of social miscreants and perverts. Any government that shuts its eyes at that is a disaster waiting to happen.

Hideout for criminals? Really? So, you are saying in essence that if ceasars palace @las vegas happens to be regularly visited by criminals, they should close it down? Wow! Your inability to do youя job as a police officer should not be to my own detriment, in this case, the club owner. The only thing the club owner can do as a good citizen is to assist the police which ever way he can, not by you closing down his business. FYI, stri.p clubs are visited by all, bankers, lawyers, doctors, pastors, even priests, and you are here making it seem as if the only customers are criminals.

NAIRALANDAKPU: Stop this ranting!! What is wrong is wrong don't you have an iota of morality in you? Its morally wrong to sit and watch ladies prance about naked all in the name of making a living! Most of them have been in that business for yrs! Don't you think they could have made enough money to go do something respectable or less degrading? its just greed to make money the easy way that's keeping this girls there not because they can't find something decent to do aside stripping, its a good move from the governor I must say.

What are you saying? Wow! U need a paradigm shift. Those stri.p clubs n hotels employed @least 25 workers. In an era that other countries are trying soo hard to boost their employment rate, a country like nigeria with no known data of the unemployment rate in their country due to lack of facilities, infrastructure and corruption is closing down businesses on the base of immorality. Very sad.
Okorocha should enact policies that will boost employment rate not scoring cheap politics and massaging your 'moral' minds. Bunch of hypocrites!

FYI, those strippers are just working, they are trying to make an honesst living. They are not prostitutes, you don't touch them, they might even be living a more decent life than you outside thier work place.

We have a very long way to go with leaders that think like this.
