I don't think you are right on that.

This guy was the one that first came out in 2009 to declare the insolvent state of NNPC. He was castigated by the high and mighty of GEJ's administration for opening the government's yansh. He was moved to Ministry of Special Duties from Minister of State for Finance. He honourably resigned and left GEJ's Government. If you don't know he was a Director in First Bank.

The former President GEJ became famous ever since he made an attempt to differentiate between corruption and stealing. In trying to find excuse and cover for the public criticism of his Govt and majority of his officials, he made a statement that will define the last general election. The Nigerian public were angry and mad at a man whose goodwill had dried up over a long period of non-performance and lack of will for better governance.

However, putting sentiments aside I have decided to look at the denotative and connotative meaning of both words: CORRUPTION and STEALING, if there is any difference or not. To ascertain if the former President was right or wrong on his assertion.

A. CORRUPTION (noun) according to google:
1. means dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery.
2. the process by which a word or expression is changed from its original state to one regarded as erroneous or debased.
3. is the misuse of public power (by elected politician or appointed civil servant) for private gain.

According to Transparency International, Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It can be classified as grand, petty and political, depending on the amounts of money lost and the sector where it occurs.

SYNONYMS OF CORRUPTION ARE: Dishonesty, falsification, deceit, double-dealing, fraud, falsification, alteration etc.

While B. STEALING(verb):

1. to take (another person's property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it.
2.move somewhere quietly or surreptitiously
According to Criminal Code 1899 section 399 : Stealing refers to a person who fraudulently takes anything capable of being stolen, or fraudulently converts to the person's own use or to the use of any other person anything capable of being stolen, is said to steal that thing.

SYNONYMS are: thieve, take, purloin, abstract, loot, pilfer.............

Denotatively (dictionary) do you really think there is a difference between the two?
Connotatively (literarily) do you think they can be used interchangeably?
Was PGEJ taken up based on his track record of cluelessness or fact based?

The former President still maintains that there is a difference between the two and that he was right on his assertion.

WHAT do you think?

Mine happened some years back....my cousin from US came visiting for the first time in Nigeria.

We are this moderate family like that, where you have to fetch water to flush closet. It doesn't flush on its own.

After three weeks in Nigeria my Cousin was preparing to return to US for resumption and while we were playing she uttered what startled me

she said "I'll teel my friends I saw a water closet that doesn't flush on its own"...........I was startled.

You got it all wrong guy, the subject of discussion was leaving out business men on Presidential tours. You went ahead to copy a vacation tour made by President Obama.... the simple reason people fail exams. Obviously you didn't check the subject I responded to, you just jumped to attack my comments. Listen, there is a difference btw vacation tours and official tours. official tours are made strictly for official reasons. It is an opportunity to take advantage of identified opportunities in the other country. Heads of Government travel with individuals that can assist in grabbing the opportunities. One major reason for African Leaders is convincing foreign multinationals to have a presence in your country through establishment of companies; which will translate to job creation, empowerment and SKILLS & TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSFER. I can go on and on to enumerate reasons for official tours and roles of business men. The first trip President Obama made in 2008 was to India, not to mesmerize but expand their business interest which was necessary to further cushion the effect 2008 economic crisis.

First and for most if Nigeria is to divide, how many entities are we gonna divide into? We have 256 ethnic groups, what stops us from dividing into 256 different countries, what's the assurance we would divide into just 3?
Lets take Biafra first, why should the 5 eastern states agree to divide together to form one Baifra, why not do divide into 5 different countries
Arewa republic is not achievable, there are over 150 ethnic groups in the north, for one, the huasas and fulanjs would never form a country together if giving a choice, we still have the Nupe, Gwari, Gwagi and other ethnic groups....
Oduduwa repulblic is already having issues where the Ijebus are fighting for their states, the Offas want out of Kwar...
Secondly Division is not as simple has it sounds especially in less developed regions like Africa, we would fight for many unending years with a death toll rising in millions and that might not even ensure that the divisions would be achieved. Look at sudan, they fought for years, even after the south successfully gained independence they turned the guns on each other and started fighting themselves in the south.
Economics...If Nigeria is to Divide into N, SW, SS, SE, ...The only region to benefit would be the SW and the Se due to the availability of a readily extractable mineral resources in the SS and sea ports, The SW would enjoy with it's population and seaports....The N and SE would be totally landlocked surrounded by other countries and this is not a good recipie for economic development.

Nigeria is better has one , which ever faction feels marginalize should table it's grieviences to it's senators, Hor and GOVS....Each state in the republic receives it's monthly allocation, Because of Federal system, your state Govement is in charge of your development..Its time we start singing the right song of holding our leaders accountable and stop the song of separation.
