So, it will not be out of normal to cheer him on. And don't be the one left out when everyone else is clapping because that is not a noble thing
to do. In other words...GEJ, take your incompetent and retard.ed behind back to Otueke. He ruined Nigeria for 6 years.

The people bearing the brunt of her misguided economic policies will beg to differ. But then Africans always cherish awards shoved down their throats especially when it comes from the West. Politics › Re: Yale Honours Okonjo-iweala For Fighting Corruption, Fiscal Transparency by InvertedHammer: 4:07pm On May 19, 2015 |
Whynotthetruth: The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has received an honorary Doctorate degree from Yale University one of the United State of America’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning.
The Minister was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters at Yale’s 2015 Commencement Ceremony in New Haven, Connecticut Monday. She is the second Nigerian in the university’s 314-year history to receive its highest honour after Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka who received an honorary Doctor of Letters in 1980.
Giving out the award, the President of the University Professor Peter Salovey described Okonjo-Iweala as “a brilliant reformer and dedicated public servant.” He said that Minister “has spearheaded efforts to stabilize and grow Nigeria’s economy, battling widespread government corruption and creating greater fiscal transparency and discipline.”
Yale’s honorary doctorate degree is seen globally as a very important honour. According to the institution “those who have received honorary degree are scholars, public servants, Nobel Prize winners and heads of states.
“Collectively, they represent the aspirations of this institution. Yale honorary degree recipients serve as models of excellence and service to our students, to our graduates, to our community and to the world,” the institution says.
As Finance Minister in 2004, Okonjo-Iweala and the economic team that she led helped Nigeria obtain debt relief, wiping out $30 billion of Paris club debt, leading to a tripling of the growth rates.
The second time around as Finance Minister in 2011, Okonjo-Iweala has focused on building solid foundations and institutions critical for the survival and sustenance of the economy. She bravely fought corruption in governance with fierce dedication and unflagging energy.
Okonjo-Iweala was honored alongside the Chair of the Board of Governors of US Federal Reserve System Janet Yellen, world renowned Beninoise Singer and songwriter Angelique Kidjo, University Professor and founding member of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University Gayatari Chakravorty Spivak, Professor and Director of the Starr Center for Human Genetics at Rockefeller University Jeffrey Michael Friedman, Inventors and Entrepreneurs Elon Musk and Dean Kamen, etc.
Yale had in the past honored a handful of other Africans such as Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Politics › Re: Nigerian Citizenship Eligibility With Regard To Elected Offices by InvertedHammer: 5:28pm On May 18, 2015 |
CFCfan: The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) defines the three ways in which an individual can obtain Nigerian citizenship - namely by birth, registration, and naturalization. Specifically, Chapter 3 sections 25 though 28 lay out in some detail the various situations in which each form of citizenship is attained.
For the purposes of this piece, I'll main focus on the provisions that deal with citizenship by birth, and those which govern the qualifications for president, governors, National Assembly members, and House of Assembly members)
Section 25 (1) states: "The following persons are citizens of Nigeria by birth-namely- (a) every person born in Nigeria before the date of independence, either of whose parents or any of whose grandparents belongs or belonged to a community indigenous to Nigeria; provided that a person shall not become a citizen of Nigeria by virtue of this section if neither of his parents nor any of his grandparents was born in Nigeria.
(b) every person born in Nigeria after the date of independence either of whose parents or any of whose grandparents is a citizen of Nigeria; and
(c) every person born outside Nigeria either of whose parents is a citizen of Nigeria."
Thus, going by the aforementioned section, even a kid born outside Nigeria to at least one Nigerian parent, is a Nigerian citizen by birth.
With regard to citizenship eligibility to run for both legislative (National Assembly and state HOAs) and executive offices (President and governors), sections 28, 66 (1a), 131, and 177 (a) provide guidance.
Section 28 says: "Subject to the other provisions of this section, a person shall forfeit forthwith his Nigerian citizenship if, not being a citizen of Nigeria by birth, he acquires or retains the citizenship or nationality of a country, other than Nigeria, of which he is not a citizen by birth.
With regard to eligibility for election into the House of Representatives and/or the Senate, Section 66 (1a) states: "No person shall be qualified for election to the Senate or the House of Representatives if: (a) subject to the provisions of section 28 of this Constitution, he has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a country other than Nigeria or, except in such cases as may be prescribed by the National Assembly, has made a declaration of allegiance to such a country; "
With regards to presidential contenders, Section 131 says: "A person shall be qualified for election to the office of the President if - (a) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth..."
Citizenship eligibility for the office of governor is contained in Section 177 (a) which states that: "A person shall be qualified for election to the office of Governor of a State if (a) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth;"
Therefore, a Nigerian citizen by birth, who has become a naturalized citizen of another country or who holds dual citizenship by birth, fulfills the constitutional citizenship requirement to seek and hold elected office in Nigeria. /* Very informative. Thanks */ |

Just to add some...
1. Electricity: A roll of cable for wiring supposed to be 100m but they cut out about 20m and repackage it to look like a full roll (very difficult to detect if you don't know about wires). Instead of 10 rolls, you end up using 13 rolls. And don't forget the few yards usually stolen by site electricians when the owner is not watching.
2. Workers: Stealing! Stealing!! Stealing!!! From electricians to plumbers. They steal materials. And in some case, with the collusion of suppliers, they "overquote" the materials and round trip the extra materials back to the supplier at highly discounted prices. Both supplier and the artisan gain at the expense of the owner. You may think your electrician/plumber is very reasonable with their charges, but they already know that they will make up the difference with the materials they will steal from the site.
3. SUPPLIES: Trips of sand or stone would come in less than full load sometimes. Usually the lorry driver will hurriedly tip the sand/stone before it could be inspected.
4. CEMENT: I don't know if it still exists, but the vendors by cement dust and bag it themselves. The bags will come in different weights. The common denominator is that none of the bags is anywhere close to 50kg. This is why delegating construction jobs supervision to a third party is a big gamble. The count may look right, but is the quantity right? I believe this is also partially responsible for the spate of collapsing buildings being witnessed in Nigeria in recent times. |

/ I have never heard that ladies take money from their men under gun point. If you cannot afford what she is into, then find someone whose taste is affordable. If what she is doing is intolerable, time will catch up with her. Otherwise, guys should hang their coats where they can reach them. A guy is only cute and "happening" when he is in the university living off of his parents. Once he graduates, all those shallow attributes go out of the window if he has no positive cash flow. That's when the reality of life sets in. The problem is that some guys do not know when and how to do the much needed transition to manhood. They live under their parents after graduation and spend most of their time on social media blaming ladies for their own laziness. A well rounded girl will not settle for a loser. Such guys keep hoping they get wealthy in-laws who will give them easy ride. Surprisingly, they will never agree to their sisters marrying losers like themselves.

omenka: I don't know... Although I see a lot of folks using the line - what did he do for his people?- I don't quite subscribe to that argument.
Mr Jonathan was voted as the president of Nigeria, his people are Nigerians, and his domain encapsulates the entire landmass of Nigeria and her maritime boundary and not a particular section of the country. If he failed "his people", then it is Nigerians he failed, and if he does well to his people, it is still the generality of Nigerians that would enjoy the goodies.
My dad told me something once. He said "power rotation is rotation of corruption", and he is so damn right. Think about it, should all zones receive equal treatment and attention from whoever it is that occupies the center, who would have time or care a hoot agitation for power?? That is why ironically, I sort of say it is rather commendable for a guy in Nigerian polity if he is being vilified by people that "he did nothing for his people. It somewhat shows he's not ethnocentric.
Only problem is when everybody complains he did nothing for them. It simply means all he did, he did for himself and himself only. / Good observation. But he had money to build almajiri schools in the North, but none to deliver common electricity to his town or to build federal roads in the SS. People cry against marginalization because they feel that their interests are not being protected at the center. When a son-of-the-soil holds all the aces and couldn't protect the interests of his constituency to bridge many years of lopsided development, then it becomes height of carelessness and naivety. \ \ |
