Notice for a yearly tenant is 6 months!

When it should start from is what I am not sure of embarassed
Is that the position of Lagos state law?

If that is the case, then the OP's issue is not really about threats.
Perhaps she expected to enjoy 4 months free post rental quit notice.

I believe she would have paid her yearly rent if the Landlady did not die.
A person with no financial muscle trying to enforce their rights against
desperate landlord is taking a huge risk.

Assuming she gets free legal service and all and got a favorable judgment, she will
still be eventually evicted after a few months.
PropertiesRe: Landlord Threatening Me:pls Help Me Lagos State Governor &well Meaning Nigerians by ivolt: 8:56am On Sep 13, 2021
they came and gave me 2 months quit notice in August 2021 which will coincide with the month of October 2021 when my rent will expire. Despite I'm a yearly tenant.
Since your rent and quit notice expires in October, what exactly do you want?
Do you want to stay in the house beyond your rent expiry against the owners' wish?

If what you have described above is the correct state of things, then the house is not
safe for you. You should already be out there looking for another apartment.

If they are still threatening you despite quit notice, you should assure them that you are
not staying beyond your rent expiry and also report the case at the nearest police station.

BTW, you should have included the professor's full name and his place of employment
since he can't be the only professor whose name is popoola..

In the US, government do provide money for hedge fund managers to invest in startups.
Government absolutely do not dabble in hedge funds neither do they select startups to fund, it is private
pockets that does that.

You are probably confusing government support to certain established cutting edge industry players
for strategic and security reasons.
Nigeria does that too.

But no sensible government will fund the next Amazon competitor.

Same issue with almost every innovative Nigerian start up: funding wahala !

To take on market leaders like DSTV...one needs a very deep pocket.

And here in Nigeria, you are your own. Banks won't give you money, government doesn't care and we don't have the kinda organized Silicon Valley investors here.

So our innovative young people are easily fvcked by their big competitors.
Could you explain what is innovative about TSTV that makes them deserving of funding?

Its really not about the interest rate but the promised consistency.
I know someone who went into farming and made profit in the first season but lost about 80% of his
investment on his second trial.
Imagine if he had collected money and promised people sure profit based on his first experience?

There is nothing wrong with farm investments, but investment schemers often hide important information
about risks involved from their subscribers.

What could they have done to deprive them of their fundamental human right
First, electricity is not a fundamental right.
If you don't pay, you don't get it.

Here is an idea of what they did:
Kelvin30286063:
Hmmm
Op, don't say anything about what you know nothing about. I'm from Okitipupa. That's my home town. Our people caused what they are facing with electricity now. Back in the days, Okitipupa has the best electricity services in ondo state. They refused to pay for power. Then had a major issue with the then NEPA which forced the federal government to disconnect the entire town.
Fast forward to 6 months later, they had a major riot about the issue and thugs burnt all the transformers in the town, burnt all the NEPA offices in the town and even killed some staffs that year. After that, they were totally ignored.
Even now that electricity have been privatized. BEDC who is in charge of power in ondo state asked the people of the town to pay 50% of what they owe and they will help restore power to the town but they refused. Claiming they must see power before they pay any money. Now the town has no hope of ever having power cuz BEDC vowed not to spend millions of naira to restore all the damages if there is no guarantee that they will get their money back.
The governor cannot even intervene since electricity is now in private hands.

But the electricity issue in Ondo South started in 2014 after transition of to private ownership. The Benin Electricity Distribution Company BEDC put 5 out of the six local government in the South senatorial districtict into blackout, starting from Ore. Attempt to make BEDC respore supply met a brickwall as the discos insist the area is indebted to the tune of billions. The question is how can a new company claim to be owed such amount. Did the PHCN transferred debt to them after the takeover bid. This was the question people were asking. After a long while, Power was restored to Ore in Odigbo local government leaving the remaining four in darkness. This has been the situation since 2014. Several protest has been held. Consultation has been made. Article has been written. On one of the protest led by a group, National revolutionary Vanguard, Mimiko himself sent forces to thwart the agitation. The governor saw through his second term without bringing solution to the protracted crisis. Akeredolu is on his second term, yet no solution has been profered. The deputy president, Osinbajo has visited the region and the issue was a topic. Talk about iresponsible leadership, that's the case here.
No.
This is not a case of irresponsible leadership.
The blame lies squarely with the people.
Electricity is not free that is a fact but the people think they can get it for free by introducing
elements of violence.
Since BEDC is a private company, the only reason they wouldn't supply electricity if they know
they can't get paid or safety issues.

Do you know the number of transformers, cables and subsations that were vandalized by so-called
protesters?

Some of these "protesters" even sometimes destroy NEPA infrastructure out of envy of neighboring towns
with electricity to spread misery.

If the town leaders traditional and political can hold a meeting and guarantee the safety of NEPA equipment and staff as
well as pay for the damages that was caused by "angry youths", electricity will be restored asap.

Which houses are you talking about? Mansions in Maitama, Lekki or Ikoyi? Lmao!!!
Housing prices are skyrocketing everywhere.

You're living in a bubble. For every 1 mansion in Lekki, there are hundreds of run down houses in the city centres or outskirts, where Nigerians are living. Go and look at the population of the highbrow areas and compare with the rundown parts of the city providing cheaper alternatives, so it is still an extremely negligible amount.
Nobody is talking about highbrow areas.
Speak to an estate agent about the cost of a decent self-contain, two-bedroom and three-bed room flat
in any area that is not crime-infested and come back with your report.
Do you think it is the elites that are living in the type of houses I listed above?

Inflation, poverty, increased cost of living is hitting Nigerians hard and many are moving to cheaper alternatives. Don't be fooled by a handful of criminals or fraudsters buying out houses in Lekki,
You are funny, who told you I am talking about Lekki?
I talked about rent, not purchase.
I mentioned state capitals and your mind immediately goes to Lekki.
How does that follow?
FYI, poor and middle class also reside in your magical Lekki.
If your claims are correct, then Lagos could not exist as a city.

there are millions more living in squalor in Ikotun , Alimosho, Ikorodu etc.
It is always entertaining when people pull random numbers to make a point.

Even if you come to rent, it's the same thing. The average American can pay his rent of $1000 from his salary and still have enough money to feed for the rest of the month. The average Nigerian, on the other hand, we need to save up all of his 6 months salary to pay for his rent

No matter how you look at it, it's just 6oo expensive in Nigeria
It seems you are deliberately distorting numbers to make a point.
Who are the average Nigerian that use their 6 months salary to pay rent?
I bet you they don't exist.

There are millionaires everywhere, even in war torn Afghanistan. There is a strong correlation between having less or more than 1000 people earning 5.2 million and being the poverty capital of the world because that figure is negligible. The disparity in income, wages & living standards, which puts over 80 million Nigerians in excruciating poverty, the other lower millions are those above the povertyline and the almost non existent middle class, means that the elite is a negligible minority.
The elite are a negligible minority, yet, housing value continue to skyrocket in most Nigerian capitals.
I suppose, it is ghosts, those in excruciating poverty or non-existent middle class that are renting those houses.

30k is not Nigeria's minimum wage. Its the average wage. Most SMEs pay around 30k to 40k. Only few 5op organisations pay more. And only the FG and some states have been paying this to workers in the public sector.

But even if I agree with you and use your own figures, it still doesn't take away from the point as it only makes it a little bit better. Nigeria still ends up on the high side
You did not address the fact that you made an invalid comparison when no

How is it cheap if it cost me all my salary to browse the Internet in a month?

I don't think you understand the meaning of cheap
I don't think you understand the meaning of salary, its value, or economic choice.
Suppose you choose to spend all your salary on alcohol, that doesn't make alcohol expensive
for its relative use.
You just happen to value alcohol more than anything else.
Same goes for data.

No sane person will decide to double their data spending because their salary just got doubled.
People use the data they need.
PhonesRe: Cost Of Data In Nigeria Is Very High. Not Cheap by ivolt:
This is statistical abuse.

First, OP mischieviously compared US "average wage" to Nigeria's minimum wage.
In reality, the US minimum wage is about $1260 per month.

Secondly, it is illogical to compare total data that a minimum wage can buy when the two
countries do not have similar data consumption habit.

A better comparison would be common items such as tax, transport and housing.

If you do the math, you will see that Nigeria comes up on top.

The first thread remains true to its message that Nigeria's data is much cheaper for the
simple reason that no rational person spends their entire salary on data. They make economic
choices by buying what they need.
