Family › Re: How Can You Tell Your Adopted Child That You Are Not His Biological Parents? by Ivynwa(f): 12:20am On Feb 19, 2011
The same way you will like to be told if you were in his/her position. It is true that the adopted parents may have the fear of losing the child to the birth parents when they are revealed but adopted parents should not be so selfish as to hide that from such. I think that the worst thing a human can do to another is to separate them from their root. It is not a kind thing to do.

@Poster
You definietly can't be asking us what your wife should answer him, you already know the answer, don't you? She should respectfully turn him down, avoid him and keep him at arm's length. She should also wrap up his money and return it to his wife or aide or children with a made-up story that for example sounds like it is a payment from you her husband concerning a contract or land he was trying to help you get. When he receives the money he will understand the gesture for sure. You two should keep it to yourselves and watch his reaction, if he makes further effort to make trouble for your wife, the elders of the extended family should be intimated to protect your wife.

What is preventing yor wife and kids from being with you there in the UK? this should act as a wake-up call for you to have your family by your side and not leave them at the mercy of such men. Spouses living in different continents for such length of time does not augur well as it tears families apart. It's not fair on women especially the goodly faithful ones that will wait for their husband even if it takes him 10 years to return to her while some of these men they have sworn their fidelity to are out there being with other women.

A certain Nigerian man who live outside Nigeria recently opened up to his friends that he is real and honest to his wife and has given her the freedom to have a sexual partner(but not to bring home pregnancy), this he said is because he himself frolicks with other women in the country he resides. This man is being honest but such liberties exposes such couples to things like diseases etc.
Methinks two people that are married should be together not apart and should do everything possible to bridge any distance gap when it arises.

Oh dear! I feel for you concerning your sister's ill health. It definitely won't be easy on the family.
The little I know about that is that it has to do with some brain nerves etc but I ain't no doctor so you need to hear from doctors. More violent over the years?? meaning that it needs serious attention. You can ask around to see whether there are doctors that are very knowledgeable at that, research intensively in the internet, you may get helpful info from write-ups or health forums.
Do take good care of her the best you can, she should avoid standing on heights(elevated places) especially open ones, she mustn't drive (okay she is a kid as you said). She needs good attention, I pray she recovers from it very soon.

FKseun:
You won't get the support you want on nairaland. if you are tired of your marriage go ahead and QUIT! You make it sound like you are a perfect human being yourself. From experience, people start complaining bout their marriages when they start having toasters or illicit affairs. How long has he being like his? You knew him before you married him or was he forced on you. If you have made a mistake in life live with it or move on. Stop being a bad role model unto others!
Mr FK,
Do cut the lady a slack, don't be hard on her dear. We are no perfect humans, we all have our sad and happy times and when unhappy ones come here to lean on others we should at least give them a little sympathy and warmth. I know that ours is a society that has streamlined us all into covering up nicely and acting like all is sweet and nice and if you dare open up a little may get booed and all, we humans are no machines with 100% efficiency. It's no bad thing to seek strength or shoulders to lean on.

Our dear Aby seems to be tensed up right now. I really wish such super women like you can be getting the support and appreciation they deserve from their spouses. I agree with Mr. Genius that you should let him know what you are feeling, the same way communication paved the way the last time it can still work here.
He may be depressed (his ego may be suffering from from having no job) and needing your encouragement too, talking to him may let him know what you expect from him. Some men were brought up in an atmosphere where a lady does all the domestic work which makes them hands off all the domestic work when their wife is around. I can't assimilate that part about some men schooling and a wife that should be taken care of is working all that hard, education at adult level can be combined with part time job please. Working a job will also do his ego good and he will stop feeling moody. Two jobs and you take care of a baby too, you are a superwoman dear!

Your friend is her own problem, her fears are making her take wrong decisions. The fact that her sister went through that does not mean that her case with her husband will be the same when he comes over. He can arrive canada and become a huge success. Her assumptions here are the source of the problem. A family is supposed to be together, many marriages have been destroyed by the spouses having to live in different continents etc.
It isn't only people that went to school to get certificate that succeed in Life, I know a skilled person that is somewhere outside Nigeria earning more than the doctors who are among the most well paid. Success begins in the mind of a person, a person that is determined to succeed will succeed in spite of odds.

Poor impressionable girl, I feel for her family that will definitely be heartbroken right now. Why will a human being want to be cut up just to impress others? God knows I ain't cutting any part of my body for anybody or anything. Look at me worrying that I have no time to gym out and shed off some pounds off lil-bit-bootilicious-me as I detest big booties and some body was somewhere worrying about adding it on. Did they ever think of having to sit down on some definitely discomforting booties all the days of their lives? It sure must be very discomforting to sit on. Biggups to baba God o, who gave us those pillows to sit on, while will some of us think of inconveniencing themselves so.

Our girlfriend here sure have a thing for booties, what with all these pictures brazenly flashing the thing to whoever cares to look at it. The pictures alone testifies that she is too taken with that.
Let's not judge you Baby, Ain't we all taken with one thing or the other? Let's avoid being overtaken with such and love up ourselves. It's such a pity a beautiful Naija girl that would have been repping us real good somewhere isn't alive anymore. Poor dear!

A woman is a builder not a destroyer. Don't help him destroy what you've got until it's all gone. Haven't you heard? The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. If you find yourself with a very disrespectful/violent child will you stop rocking his cradle/taking care of him and allow him waste away and die? No Baby, sure it hurts but love has the greater power to make him repent than revenge.
You are the woman/wife here yet indirectly you is the boss(do bear with my slang) as you run that home, you can control the mood in the home. What great powers we women have but sometimes underuse.
You shouldn't have gone into the marriage knowing how randy he is, try hard and see whether you can find strength (the strength to make him better) from whatever it is that made you get into the marriage in the first place. Don't let him make you stoop Baby!

This indeed is a very interesting thread. The beautiful thing about our nairaland is that it can still enable one feel the crannies and pulse of some misplaced norms in our society wherever in the world you are.
Poster with all these confusions weighing you down I am of the opinion just like TheCongo and Ninapha that you take time out of it all and pray. It won't be wise to go ahead now and marry whichever of them your mind tells you to pick out, the confusions needs to be allayed to avoid regrets. Don't let yourself be rushed into tying the knot with the fella that is in a hurry to marry you because he doesn't want to lose you to another man. Be honest to him and ask for time to be clear headed enough. Some men are competitive in nature, watch that male driver taking his time and driving slowly on the road, the moment another vehicle passes him with high speed the competition begins! It's your future at stake not some ego-fight not that I am blaming the men in your lives for having you arrive here neither am I blaming you. It's all rooted down to the many things that are going wrong in our Nigerian society. Yes I said it!

Let us see the fact as it is, the Nigerian society is too disrespectful and hard on unmarried ladies which has led many women into all kinds of desperate measures, manipulations and counter manipulations ALL IN A BID TO GET MARRIED! Some weeks back, I read in a thread here about a newly wedded gloom lamenting that he just realized after his wedding that his new wife who deceived him into thinking that she is younger than he is (with a forged cetificate), is actually 3 years older than him and I went "What more extremes can our society push the ladies to??" I mean it's real serious if women now go to that extent.

Some kind of reparation, eeh? But our leaders are taking more and more of our monies back to oyinbo with ease.
Oga Redsun your views are great but do help me work out this equation please.
How many scamming, deceiving innocent people off their money, ruining the lives of lonely women will make such legal and good.

If you know the answer to that question do let me know, why do you keep justifying such acts of wickedness dear. I don't understand that.

I am presently trying to convince a non-nigerian lonely woman that a Nigerian man she seems to be falling for who I'm sure is a scammer is only trying to scam her and she is busy asking me whether I am warning her off from the man because I broke up with the man. What man? A man I never even dated or had any thing romantic to do with. People should wisen up and be using their brains really, I detest what these scammers are doing to us all. Imagine such wasted intelligence that would have been put into good use to make billions and he is satisfied with ruining lonely women and collecting their life savings from them.

Hi IloveFred,
It's nice that you have recovered and that things are going great for you. No we may not know how long it takes to process such at the embassy but he will get through for sure. Just know that we all here in this forum were very concerned about you which was why many people spoke like that, do be careful whatever you do . You are already married so there isn't much we can say but for you to work on your marriage and make it work to fulfill you and your new husband.
Do be careful and not stress yourself to the point of borrowing more and more, Mrs. Eve did have a good point in stressing that you shouldn't be borrowing like that when you have kids. I wish you happiness there.

This man probably inspired a lot of yahoo-yahoo boys. No one can compete with him in his sheer genius. The way he laundered his money. And how he was able to work under the radar, was truly something to behold.
That article reminds me of a movie script
Has our society moved to the level that people who take away life-long savings of others and render families hungry are now respected as sources of inspiration and cheered on as Genius. What's wrong with this our generation?? Materialism (that are gotten from whichever sources) have been enthroned even if it means stealing from the world, organizing to get your relatives kidnapped, killing your friend to own his car etc
