Some Nigerians never get morale to sit like that on a bike. Some will sit the normal way and still hold that iron behind. Yet this woman is sitting comfortably in that position?

How do we do honour this woman for taking such risk on behalf of Nigeria?
grin

The only people I've seen sitting in that position are Reverend sisters.

I wonder why she couldnt sit the usual way.

Who knows what the Hexagon on Bolt mean?
It's means there are more riders and less drivers in that area. It's what we usually call SURGE

if you find yourself in that hexagon, any request that you will have something like 1.1X, 1.2X...till 2.0X and more depending on how RED the hexagon means. This means that the rider's fee will be multiplied by 1.1 or 1.2 or others, as the case may be

Also, if you find yourself in a location different from the surge, don't chase it. It's most likely to disappear, and besides, Bolt cannot be trusted, unlike Uber

Work is fine jare. Don't mind me, I can be obstinate like that.

If you are free one of these days, just PM me, we can hook up. Office is around Adekunle, Yaba. I always hang out at E-Center after work so I don't have to drive in traffic.

At least both of us will have a chance to eat suya and drink beer and laugh at my foolishness.
You aren't foolish sir. We just see the issue differently

Not currently in Lagos. Once I show, I'll buzz you. I think i still have your contact

Why should I drive 5km to a rider knowing the trip is less than 2km?

Some people cannot understand it is important to ask for destinations at times.

I didn't used to ask for destinations esp in the morning/afternoon except at night most times until I took a trip to Ikorodu early morning, very bad road, more like a village in Ikorodu. Drove almost 8km there. Return trips no fit happen. I just drove back home as trips (are scare in Ikorodu on a normal day), after I drove a long distance to best areas to get trips in Ikorodu.

Experiences shape people differently, just do what works for you and think about the other fellow (rider or driver in any case). As long as your conscience is clear, good for you.
Your comment is just core experience on the job. This job is much more than driving

Well, different people and different opinions

What is your definition of a bad road?
And which roads in Lagos are good?

I never told any of my riders, not one single one, that "the road is bad, so I'm cancelling."

Our roads aren't wonderful, but any driver can navigate them with sense and still deliver the service he or she signed up on the platform for.

It is an attitude thing.
Nitrigriti, sincerely, you and I reason differently.

And I wouldn't want to ruin this peaceful friendship with this matter. Let's let this issue rest. We may never find a common ground

How's work sir?

Izzou, let me put this statement in other words for you.

It is not right for a driver to cherry-pick trips. It affects the reliability of the service.

Cherry-picking trips is wrong; cancelling trips for whatever reason (e.g. driver wants to go and poo or driver doesn't like the face of the rider) is neither wrong nor right.

Hope you get this now?
If the roads are bad, and you(nitrigriti) asks me to cancel, isn't that cherry-picking?

As long as the roads are bad, and we have a distorted traffic structure, drivers will continue to cherry pick and the service will continue to be unreliable

When I'm in Festac, I can never accept a trip to Satellite town which is less that 10km even if the surge is 3X. But I'll accept a trip to Lakowe, or even Bogije(areas without request).

I'll rather save my investment or that of my partner than please a system. It's neither my fault or uber that the roads are bad

I did ehailing for 2 years. And yes, I did offline trips. But I never initiated them on my own or tried to convert an online trip to an offline one. A few examples:
1) A couple booked me offline for their wedding Saturday, Sunday and Monday; AFTER I carried them around Lagos for four hours plus as they did their shopping ONLINE without complaining;
2) There's a rider who works at Coca Cola, Agidingbi. He booked me online for a trip in Lagos, he enjoyed the trip and requested that I take him and his colleagues offline to Ibadan.
3) I remember picking up four Yahoo guys from my estate (gowon) on Uber. Their destination was Otta, around Covenant University. I explained to them that Uber trip will stop reading once I leave Lagos area and so I won't go. One of them offered that we should do the trip offline. I said no, let's do it online till toll gate, then I will end the trip; we will do #1,500 offline from toll gate to Covenant University and then you will give me #1,000 for fuel back to Egbeda, Lagos. The total is your bill; which was fair enough.

Ornicus's point is you don't cheat the platform that brings you and a rider together. I completely agree. I remember I once stated here it wasn't right to select trips and reject others; that it makes the service unreliable for riders and every driver suffers for it in the end.

The platform will bring its own opportunities; by all means, use those opportunities well. But don't cheat the platform. This is Ornicus's point.

Rejecting rides dilutes the quality of the platform. This reduces users and reduces revenue.

On this thread, there are already complaints that oride is taking over, not so?

In the end, if uber does, who suffers, me? Or the drivers?
Dont compare Oride

They use bikes. Because of traffic, people are settling for bikes

Take it. You win some, you lose some. Not every project is going to be sweet. Not every job is going to be fantastic. The way you handle the difficult jobs is what makes you. You will not be doing uber forever. You will work somewhere or even have your own business. And you will sometimes find you have to take bad of low profit jobs. It is what it is. Will you reject a fantastic trip if offered? So why do you want to cherry pick the jobs that come your way?

Do you think your fledgling business would flourish with that attitude?
You only use the line "YOU WIN SOME AND LOSE SOME" when an unexpected result happens. Not when you deliberately give something a shot even when you know you'll lose

At your place of work, do you guys deliberately enter into a business that you are very sure you'll lose?

A driver decides to go to Agbara online. The estimate is #2500 to #2900. He buys fuel of 3k.
Enters traffic and spent hours between Abule Ado to Iyanaoba. Let's not talk about the damage inflicted on the car. And in the end, he gets #4k. Is there any sense in this?

Ornicus, please just be realistic. Uber and Bolt did not design their app and fare rates to accommodate bad roads and floods. That's the honest truth.

But anyway, everyone is entitled to his opinion
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by izzou(m): 11:01am On Oct 24, 2019

No, Izzou. The driver should not damage his car because of the customer.

He should take his car off the platform — Uber or Taxify; since he is not okay with the services the platform is providing for him.

So long as he keeps his car on the platform, he is obligated to provide service according to the terms and conditions of the platform.

#StrictlyBusiness #NoSentiments
Nitigriti, I'm sorry but I think you are contradicting yourself

You said its unprofessional to reject trips

You are saying the driver should leave the platform if he doesn't want to damage his car

So if I get a request from you to a location with bad roads, what do I do?
Are you saying I damage my car because I want to be professional?
Or I should cancel the trip?
Or I should cancel and leave the platform totally?

I will say what my boss said once, if this job was easy, you would not be doing it. Every job has great days and horrible days. My commute to work used to be Orile. I have been robbed there once, once on Xmas eve, they came close but I had already sighted them and taken evasive action, several times boys tried intimidation and I showed craze. Can you tell them at work I can't make it because road is bad? I have slept over night at sites. I have used my own money on projects.

I am simply saying you have to go the extra mile. And it has to be an attitude.

We had a project years ago in Ijora. A real mess. Towards the end we were in crunch and it was hell. The contractor had one guy who had been disturbing all of us to assist him with employment. The guy just vanished as the going got tough. I cannot kill myself. Meanwhile there was a youth corper who was working overnight, dropping his own money to make things move. After the project we had a vacancy and I called him without him calling me. I told him all he needed to know and we engaged him. This was five years ago and he has been on the system since in one way or another.

He could also have said not my problem, I am not paid enough for this, they are cheating me. He would have been right and he would have missed the opportunity that materialised.

You do not always know who your ride is.

And you do not always know when opportunity is knocking
Ornicus, no vex... Let me ask you a question

If you were a driver, and you get a request to a lqocation with very bad roads, what do you do?

Remember:
1) It will be unprofessional for you to cancel the trip.

2) It will be fraud if you ask for offline after you realize the fee will not be worth the damage on both the car, and traffic

Please, what will you do?

That could happen on any trip. If you're not prepared for those hazards then you shouldn't be in the business. Everything comes with a risk. E.g. right now I have a customer who brought a car that I can't fix because my specialist is sick. Does the customer want to hear it? No. If you want to have the luxury of picking and choosing trips, then you should do it on your own platform. As someone pointed out, drivers accepted the terms and conditions when they signed on.
So you are saying a driver should damage his car because of the customer? He should drive through bad and terrible roads just for how much?

I think Ornicus has made brilliant arguments here;

Drivers might feel shortchanged on the platforms, I agree with ornicus that instead of cutting corners, drivers should forward their complaints through official channel and press for reviews, after all, drivers are partners. Uber/taxify might not bring positive and favourable reforms on the platform if drivers keep cutting corners rather than letting their parent partners know their challenges and adjust accordingly.
You think drivers don't FORWARD THEIR COMPLAINTS THROUGH OFFICIAL CHANNELS AND PRESS FOR REVIEWS?

You really think so?

in that case, I don't think you should be able to reject trips. My family and I were stranded in Rome from 11:02pm tIill 2am, new Jersey till 3:45am and almost missed a flight in NJ because of exactly this. Drivers would be on the way then cancel without a word and then we would have to start over. One even showed up (Rome), saw we were black and cancelled. In NJ, he wanted more to carry us when he arrived. He refused, drove off, started the trip and we were charged! Filed a dispute and got money back.

Other professions don't pick and choose. Imagine if doctor accepts your appointment and then you show up and doctors says he doesn't want your case but you can afford to pay.
I'm sorry ma, but have you always worked on all the cars that was brought to your workshop?

Haven't you ever rejected a repair because of reasons other than finance?

If yes, I might just conclude that's it's unprofessional.

I love these questions!

1) I will accept Festac to Agbara online on a dry day so long as I can be back in Lagos (Egbeda) before 4:00pm. If I check Google maps to and fro and I see that I can't make it back before 4:00pm, I will reject and cancel the trip and let the rider know my reason.
As it is raining now, I cannot take the trip from Festac to Agbara.

2) I always did my trips online. If I feel a trip request will not pay me, I reject outright. I never try to convert an online trip to an offline one.
Thank you sir.

At least, you can agree with me that while it isn't professional to reject trips, it is necessary because of the working conditions associated with it

Like I said, ornicus is right, but he may not understand the challenges involved

If you read about a driver fighting a rider because the rider refuses to pay, of course it will be unprofessional. But every driver knows that Bolt will NEVER REFUND OR PAY and driver that was defrauded by a rider

Many things are better left unsaid. I hope to see you someday sef.

Cancelling after accepting

When you make a request, the driver can not know your destination. Even when he accepts, he cannot know

It's until he starts the trip, or you tell him

I quite agree with Ornicus to some point, but let me ask you, sir, two questions

1) Since it's wrong to reject trips, can you accept a trip from Festac to Agbara in this rainy season?

2) A trip from Festac to Agbara is roughly #3000. As a driver (which I know you once was), will you accept to do it online, since you don't see it professional to reject trips?
