It doesn't mean Ogidi is not Igbo, but we don't consider ourselves Igbo in front of other Igbos. We call ourselves Ogidi and call them Igbos.
This is repeated all over Igboland. If I'm in Obosi, the Obosi man would ask me, I bu onye Obosi ka I bu onye Igbo. Are you from Obosi or an Igbo. My answer would be, I am an Igbo. It doesn't mean Obosi is not Igbo. It's just the way the concept of Igbo nationalism works. You cannot be Igbo in your hometown. You are only Igbo when you leave your hometown.

You Ikwerres are just a timid and poorly travelled and hence ignorant people.

Ohaji people are industrious and we'll travelled. You see them in Onitsha, Enugu, Lagos, PH ,etc hustling like other Igbos, so they understand the concept of Igbo very well much among Igbos.

Let us not be bringing upland and riverine dichotomy in rivers politics but rather like AK Horsefall said once, for riverine or kalabari to get governorship, they should seek for senatorial districts rotation. Governorship in rivers state should be based on serious handshake across senatorial districts. If the riverine want to bring that sentiments, I bet you the ikwerre and ogonis will not let them see the government house.

Instability has made P.H to remain stunted over the years, despite having a headstart, being a port city, being the capital of the oil region and a state with massive budget.

In the 1960's, the difference between Lagos and P.H was negligible in terms of development, but you can't compare the two now in any way. While Lagos has continued to develop massively, P.H on the hand remained stunted.

Make Port Harcourt the capital of Nigeria and move all federal agencies, parastatals and equally move embassies and foreign missions. Then Check back after 10yrs.

No one can say for sure where Ikwerres come from.
But putting together their recent Oral history together and trying to arrive at a near rational conclusion as possible as to who Ikwerre and indeed all Igboid-Bini groups are. The below is what I arrived at.




"A group of Bini people on their way to the place called Ikwerre today , suffered permanent brain damage and lost their Bini language and culture. Every single memory of it was wiped clean from their brain memory. This was unprecedented in history.

When they arrived at Ikwerre land, they had no option but to borrow the Igbo language and culture of their Igbo neighbours. Very interesting interview. Apart from emphatically declaring that he’s not Igbo, I like the part where he claimed that the head of ipob is one small boy whose name he can’t remember . I’m also glad he acknowledged the cosmopolitan nature of Rivers state and rubbished the claim by ipob that they made him governor.

At least, those always doing attache by force can now give it a rest. Ikwerres are not Igbos and so be it. They are a distinct ethnic group in Nigeria. We should all respect who they are instead of forcing another identity on them.

The Ikwerres are recognized in 1970 Nigerian constitution as a distinct ethnic group. I don't understand Igbos at all.
