This here is a classic. Christian "purists" vs the world. So much falsehood based on the OP one doesnt know where to start from. Oga Frosbel, I hail you oh. I may vote for you as religious poster of the year 2012 ![]() |
Martian:You know, I wrote paragraphs after your previous post, buttressing you. However at the last minute, I wiped it all off. I dont want to give Ola a soft landing. Either he proves the impossible or he watches his mouth next time around. Martian:god never changes is a mantra. However god was sufficiently scared of its creation to destroy the tower of Babel. Today god has recovered from its inferiority complex to endure missions to mars, the moon et al. it is so cool with it, it even lets us build space stations. Too bad it doesnt exist ![]() |
OLAADEGBU:Not at all. I'm simply saying there are more interesting things for me to deal with in your post. Its a non issue for me that he mentioned "god" for reasons given previously. Its also immaterial for me that he momentarily forgot a title of 21 words. What I m interested in, is seeing how you will prove to me that I believe in your god. OLAADEGBU:Here I'll assume you have nothing new to contribute. Lets move on. OLAADEGBU:Stop running away from the issue. Dont you want to save my "soul" ? Prove to me that I know god exists. OLAADEGBU:So your "god" did it ? Why not Allah ? Or anyone of the other "gods" ? How about a combination of gods ? On what basis do you conclude your god is the one and others are false. Since you have taken it upon yourself to define terms, let me tell you what the dictionary calls information. 1Even gibberish can hold information. Information does not always like you have stated, require an intelligent sender. I hope that this is not your way of proving god because if it is, you would have failed from the onset. OLAADEGBU:I program. I know about iterations I'm not even sure your definition supports what you say. Try another term (though I understand what you are trying to say, and your god belief fits quite nicely there).re·it·er·ateYou still havent answered my question. You are simply assuming. OLAADEGBU:One god, all gods. They are all the same. I keep telling you your god is outnumbered. Be afraid! Be very afraid!! |

OLAADEGBU:There are more interesting things. OLAADEGBU:I think I've heard just about all the "evidence" there is. Unless you have something new, I'll pass. OLAADEGBU:Now this is interesting. How do you prove the above ? I'd like to see you try. Thinking about it, it should be far easier for me to prove that you are a humbug. OLAADEGBU:Your writing the above does not make it so. I'd like to know how you know this. EDIT: How can I know of the existence of a being who created me and not believe in that being ? I hope you are not going to try to make the argument that knowing about a story is the same thing as believing that the story really happened.OLAADEGBU:Well here, you are in the minority. Its your one god against the others. The odds are that he will be the one to meet his waterloo. And please dont bring up your "one with god is a majority" or anything similar. Its rubbish. |
OLAADEGBU:I disagree. He eventually was able to recall the full title. Its a small point compared to the rest of what you wrote. OLAADEGBU:I wonder who is engaging in self deception here and who the "Intellectual Schizophrenic" is. You pretending to believe in a being that you have scanty evidence for, or the one who does not believe. Allah, Ogun, Sango and the rest are angry with you because of your treason. In any case, your statement above is mere wishful thinking. Feel free to cherish your illusions. OLAADEGBU:My dear charlatan, I still don't believe in your God. |
ghostofsparta:In the strictest sense I am an a-theist since I do not believe in any of the gods available to mankind. However, I personally do not like labels. I am myself. Labels are a cheap way for people to attack you without adhering to considerations like objectivity, logic or even truth. They do that a lot on nairaland. |
ghostofsparta:That they are aware that the tale is made up. |
OLAADEGBU:Dawkins is 70 years old I believe. At your young age, tell me you have never had a memory failure. In the end, he was able to recall the 21 word title. Its stated there in the link you posted. As for the "oh god" you rejoice in, you amaze me. What does that mean. Christians say things like "Ogun kill your papa". Does that mean they believe in Ogun ? If you have kids, you will probably tell them about Santa Claus. Does that make him real ? Im no believer in god or Allah, yet I say Insha Allah, god bless you, god punish you, etc. Sometimes someone asks me a question as to well being and to keep things short and simple, I gesture with my hands and say "thank god". Some of the less perceptive of my friends try to make a point out of this and say "which god ? Shebi you dont believe in god ?". Its simple really; its a habit of speech. I do not plan on looking for substitutes for those phrases as they serve me well and get my point across. If I say "god punish you" for instance, I have no illusions about what I'm saying. So Ola, there really is nothing to celebrate in the fact that an atheist said "oh god" ghostofsparta:True. ghostofsparta:They also yell out "oh my f.uck.ing god". Maybe Ola worships a f.uck.ing god. ![]() |
imhotep:Poor logic. imhotep:More poor logic. Open another thread to discuss this. Do not worry that the thread will be empty. Open it first and responses will come. imhotep: imhotep:The so called "tight corner" is only imaginary. If someone says he does not believe in the supernatural and you proclaim some occurrence as supernatural, one cannot disprove claims of being supernatural by being quiet. Rather, careful inquiry may show the supposed occurrence to be completely natural indeed. In making your above argument, you are assuming that which you argue. Its a form of circular reasoning. Just because people call it supernatural does not mean it is. Ironically, it is in your best interest to have a supposedly supernatural occurrence investigated by the so called rational mind. |
DeepSight, what have you done to Uyi ![]() |
ekwah:Which God would you advocate and why that particular one instead of the many thousands of other Gods ? |
diluminati: dare2think:Hehehe You beat me to it. ![]() |
Damalex4luv:That the relationship is not heading anywhere does not automatically render it a loveless relationship. |
uniqueren:Good for you. |
Others have caught on, so all I'll say is ; Cool Story !!! |
Absolute genius !!! Who would have "thunk" it. Pictures of words speaking louder than words. crossman9:I dont know why people still say this. Lets compare with John the Baptist. An angel met Z and told him the name of his son was to be John. Z dissented on traditional grounds and was promptly struck dumb. It wasnt until Z upheld the "divine" name, that his tongue was loosened. Bear in mind we are talking of John the "baptist" here, and not the "savior". In the saviors case as they want us to believe, it was "prophesied" that he would be called "Emmanuel" but lo and behold he wasnt. He was called Jesus. To fulfill the "prophecy", Christians decided to call him Emmanuel. Utter balderdash! The prophecy didnt even refer to Jesus. This "cut and join" attitude is prevalent within Christianity. Sadly so. |
Ay Carumba. I can no longer count to ten. |
frosbel:If you say Joseph is not his father and Mary was pregnant out of wedlock, he was an illegitimate child. You dont need your BHI for that. In fact the BHI version is even better (for the legitimacy of Jesus). |
OLAADEGBU:I admire the bravery of some Christians, relentlessly dashing their heads against the cold hard rocks of logic and common sense. |
dekung:Not really. They just make up stuff and revise as the occasion demands. Christianity has evolved and will keep evolving. |
Why cant we apply our minds to intellectual pursuits rather than waste them on superstitious crap ? |
frosbel:Assuming what you have said is correct, does that in any way invalidate the quote? You seek to discredit him not by advancing coherent arguments, but by attacking the man. Typical ! |
I've been threatened with juju before. I was told I would die that night. The woman even called me with the extra cool package to threaten me some more (maybe to find out also if I had croaked). I'm still here. I've sworn an oath that was to be punished by death if broken (and I'm not talking about something frivolous here). I broke it barely an hour after I took it by telling my friend. Of course if I had slept and not woken up that next morning, it would be credited to whatever juju that was said to be at work. Nobody would say its a coincidence. Bottom line, these things dont work. When they appear to work, its either a coincidence or else its brought on by the person (victim) him/herself. Theres a term for that in psychology I think, but it escapes me now. |
What kind of death ? If it is a violent death you are talking about then the question is this. If the atheist accepts the religion to avoid death at the hands of his aggressor, is he really accepting it in the true spirit of whatever religion his attacker adheres to ? If you mean however a peaceful death, the type where you feel your life is ebbing away and you know there is no more time left, then the answer is an open one. I personally would not even consider it. I can speak for myself only. I do have to point out that you used a very wide term ie "cross your mind". I am answering you within a narrow context because I dont think you mean the word in its fullest sense. I think the term "consider" would be much better. |
Joagbaje:(((((((GBAM))))))) Possibly Frosbel is not a Christian. The reasons he quotes the Quran are valid to him, the reasons Muslims quote the Bible are invalid to him. Typical reasoning. Cheers ! |
MyJoe:You are too kind. I thought DeepSight deserved a mention too. Congratulations to Joagbaje, Frosbel and Enigma. |
Deep Sight:I'm not exactly sure about that but then again, I live in the South and I am more aware of what goes on there than in other parts. So maybe, maybe not. |
Its the end of the year and Christmas is fast approaching. Its a time when friends and family who have been separated all or most of the year come together to celebrate and rest. There is meat and drink in abundance and gifts might be exchanged. Little kids look forward to seeing their Uncles, Aunts, Grandparents, and elder siblings while the old folks look forward to seeing their kids who are "doing well". All this - the travels, the merriment and gifts - comes at a huge financial price. Its a big annual event and most people plan for it. They save for it, cut costs in the months leading up to Christmas and will even take extra jobs just to earn extra income that they can blow on Christmas expenditure. The previous paragraph brings us to the inherent irony. Crime and illegal activities increase significantly during the Christmas Season. One of the very first things you will notice as the season draws closer is the exponential increase in Police Checkpoints. All they are interested in is extortion of money from car and public transport owners. Okada riders are not spared either. This of course is nothing unusual. It happens every time Christmas draws near. One day you wake up and find that the Police are everywhere. You also have Vehicle Inspection Officers everywhere as well, looking for a reason to impound your car (or bribe your way out as they prefer). Even if your car is in order, you will usually have to put up with unnecessary time wasting, an inconvenience no doubt. These agents are out to make some money for Christmas. Woe to anyone that gets arrested by the police or ends up in their hands on any pretext whatsoever. Whereas this is supposed to be the season for goodwill to all men, here the true colors will come out (and I'm not even talking about the black). Crime as mentioned earlier is also on the increase too. The number of robberies I hear about almost every day is amazing. These robbers are also hustling for Christmas. Thats a big irony I think. Now where I live, petty stealing has flourished. It was on Monday, 7th of November 2011, that I discovered that my car stereo was no longer a part of my car. Thieves had broken into the car and removed it. They didnt break the glass or anything, they simply opened the door (and yes, the car was locked) removed the stereo and locked the car back again (which part I found quite funny to be honest). Over the next days and up until now, they have been breaking into cars and compounds. Items removed include gas cylinders, clothes hanging outside, a generator, and if you don't have a car stereo they will manage your car battery (if its new or relatively new, as a few people have painfully discovered). The fact that incidents like this reoccur every Christmas season is food for thought. While it cannot be said that all these people are Christians, it is a certainty that Christians are a part of the group. |
debosky:and then frosbel:Typical Christian reply. All sins are equal (possibly with the exception of blasphemy). What does it matter if you go to hell for adultery or for stealing a biro or telling a lie ? You're still going to bake anyway, anyhow. ![]() |
Evil Brain and fellow Pastafarian, you beat me to it. ![]() |
