@Gamine, you are missed sister smiley. How are all my neighbors doing these days?

kobikwelu:
@jesoul
yep

the film has george clooney, matt damon, christopher plummer starring in it

clooney won an academy award for his role as supporting actor

the film is about oil money and how the US kills the first born/heir of an oil rich state (he wanted to cede the OPL to the chinese) and installs the silly, frivolous younger brother who they control, the US called it national security.

the film is an independent,

you know i love independents, cos they actually dont do the fireworks, instead they do the real acting

IMHO (LOLLLLLL tongue tongue tongue)

the film has a fresh tale
makes your mind work

and most importantly, it is not a big budget movie
This is actually a cool review (when did we close the illusionist? oh yeah that's right, since when JK decided to disappear again).

My overall impression was that the movie was just out to indict all the usual foreign policy suspects . . . the US is the big bad wolf . . . etc etc etc. So I dunno about how "fresh the tale" was. For some reason I cannot stand Clooney so that didn't help. The whole thing just seemed disjointed and forced in a way. The only thing I remember was the end . . . and I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way. The suicide dudes driving the speedboat straight to the ship . . . that was a nice touch. But. A boring watch jor. Carry go cheesy

MyJoe:
You will recall the first century Christians did submit to the council in Jerusalem. I suppose your disagreement then is not whether there should be submission per se, but the manner this authority to receive is exercised - whether autocratically or democratically.
MyJoe the bible tells christians to submit to one another out of love - submission in itself is not the problem and has never been the problem and I don't think I've stated otherwise when my post is taken in its entirety.

The problem is the latest remix of this otherwise noble call, which has been modified to mean "submit to the pastor" "obey whatever he says" "he is in authority over you" "you're not a legitimate christian if there's no pastor over you". The leadership submits to the flock just as much as the flock submits to the leadership - this is the body of Christ - and God is the authority over them all.
Christianity EtcRe: Christians On Nairaland by JeSoul(f): 7:12pm On Sep 13, 2010
^Nice try again MyJoe.

Look at the verse you quoted - "Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority"

Submission in this context (and in the context of the entire chapter) is being obedient to the laws of the land. Indeed, doesn't it say submit to "every authority insituted among men"? And while among the body of believers (emphasizing the word body, which immediately indicates as Paul taught, that there should be union and equal honor among members) there is a collective leadership made up of deacons, elders, pastors, apostles etc. the final authority is God alone - not an alpha-male-I-call-all-the-shots-and-have-a-collection-of-christians-I'm-in-authority-over mog.
Christianity EtcRe: Christians On Nairaland by JeSoul(f): 6:32pm On Sep 13, 2010
^^Nice shot MyJoe. I see respect, I see love, I see listen to, I see cherish . . . those in leadership - not just pastors by the way. But none of those describe submission(and all that it entails) of christians to pastors according to the popular persuation practised today of "being under the authority" of pastor x, and this submission is one of the critical criteria which certifies you as a legitimate christian.
TV/MoviesRe: The Movie Club by JeSoul(f): 5:44pm On Sep 13, 2010
I like you so I won't rate it. It had it moments but certainly not worthy of the 90th percentile esteem you bestow on it imho (those 4 letters that seem to be very popular recently).

Vesc, 300 is worthy of 90s and more . . . not for the cinematography, plot, acting, dialogue, costumes . . . but simply for those 12 packs everyone, including the old men and 6yr old boys seemed to have.

equate

"Castro Admits Communist Economics A Failure"?

For all we know he could've meant the current Cuban model needs to tighten its Communist policies for it to begin working again.
I don't know how some people here manage to equate building a recreational center with burning Korans (a book with significance to over a billion people on the planet).

False equivalence
Not quite omo, think about it.

Firstly, the Imam Rauf has himself called it a mosque - not a recreational center.

Secondly, the comparison is absolutely legitimate for these reasons:

1 - both have constitutional rights to proceed with their actions, the problem is the 'sensitivity' or 'wisdom' of proceeding with the said action.

2 - Obama is basing his argument on "not hurting the sensitivities of others". That's all well and good. But he's demanding 'sensitivity' from the pastor in FL, but hasn't demanded the same 'sensitivity' from the ground zero mosque proponents - when it is apparent the harm its done/doing to the victims families. This is a double standard and hypocritical of the president and is just one of the many reasons he's falling out of favor with majority of americans.

when the whole koran burning story first broke, I criticized the pastor sotay, this is not christian and will accomplish nothing . . . but seeing the hypocritical, 2-step, dispproportional response - from muslims and the president, I hope the pastor goes ahead with his plan. I heard one guy call in on the radio saying he was going to barbeque some korans he bought yesterday. I wish him plenty of fire on his grill. Why should one group of people be held to a different standard from others?

^^ Dayokanu, please quote that thing well well let them see.

I am still trying to figure out why threats to Burning the Koran will generate such global revebrations of outrage. I mean WTF!!! angry, you burn American Flags like every other day you are not scratching sand out ya but.t, despoil and kill non-muslims in Darfur. I mean WTF!!!

Let me guess, radical, fundamentalist (extremists) muslims can intimidate, threaten and actually commits acts of defilement and violence against non-muslim religions, holy books and religions but no one can dare Touch Allah or his prophet. i mean WTF!!!.

The only thing this event will prove is that ,  when Muslims react to this, it will be in typical (as has become known of majority of muslim societies) babaric, violent and totally sadistic retaliations The whole world will know exactly the Face of Islam and its true intentions.

Man I hate putrid religionists who cannot see true value of a message and rather concern themselves with self-made laws founded by crude, barely literate sand-mites centuries ago  angry WTF!!
Lager, stop it oh  angry islam is a religion of peace

That makes two of us glad at a Viking loss. I hope they crash and burn - along with the Jets and Steelers. I got major beef against those teams this yr. I would actually root for a Saint SB repeat (uhm apart from the Pats of course smiley ) I can't think of a nicer, hardworking team that deserves double honor.

OLAADEGBU:
Obama has dug himself into a hole, he intervened by saying that Muslims have a constitutional right to build a mosque near ground zero but was silent on the wisdom of it. When Pastor Terry Jones threatened to burn copies of the qur'an he quickly voiced out the reasons why it would not be wise to do so. Why didn't he say that Terry Jones had the constitutional right to burn them? undecided
Lol. The existential question of the day. I hope you get a decent attempt at an answer from someone here.

ogoamaka99:
Moreover a true christian has an overseer or pastor over his/her head, prove to us that you have an overseer or pastor over your head or that you are an overseer yourself.
Few things tick me off more than this.

When I'd go to different churches to do music/poetry, I'd get asked all the time by mostly elderly folks (Godbless them) "who's your pastor?" "who's spiritual headship are you under?". The question always annoys me. It insinuated 2 things:
1- that if a christian is not "under the authority" of some pastor somewhere they are somehow illegitimate christians. And
2- that I must've acquired the scriptural knowledge that I displayed from a pastor. As if it were impossible to learn by studying the bible for oneself.

Please where is the scriptural directive that demands the submission of christians to pastors?

It's about that time again people.

Rikkygenerator and Binna, una fit come out from crying hibernation since losing the SB. Sorry to re-open some unhealed wounds

Bawo's last prediction was that we should all watch out for the Diva Prima Donna Jay Cutler . . . any chance you wanna retract that?

And I hope Moonstone, Jaguar and other Saint-ers have landed from the honeymoon because statistics say most defending SB champions do not even make the playoffs in the following season. My NE patriots are of course the exception to the rule

Brittney Favre un-retired for the 10th time. I hope this Viking season sucks to the high heavens.

A-40's Steelers have a despoiler at the helm. I hope they win no more than 2 games. I can't believe Roger Godell suspended him for only 4 games? when Pacman got 15 to life for hitting a couple strip clubs? it's times like these the R-word may be appropriate.

So NFL fans on NL, where all of una dey?
