I have naticed how Abuzola have emerged as a big source of frustration to some nairaland christians with his constant ridiculing of Bible and christianity in general,
[s]
1, Cold ( Isolation,Silence & Ignore him)
What you nairaland christians are to do here is, not to view, copy or reply what ever thread he authors, no matter what he wrote,

2, Go to Islamic section and Blow VERY,VERY,VERY HOT (Be highly exagarative and defamative) Show no mercy or willingness to stop,

3, Make Combined Use of Strategy 1&2,
Here you have double aims, one is  to Isolate and ignore him and force him to stop making negative post agianst  God,Jesus Christ,Bible, christianity, pastors, churches and anything that has to do with christianity [/s]
Thank you for the suggestion brotha but there's a famous quote amongst us christians that simply goes:
"People may refuse our love or reject our message, but they are defenseless against our prayers"

The one weapon that many of us use in dealing with muslims, atheists and any other hostiles towards the gospel of Jesus Christ is to simply pray for them. I have undertaken that mission with many of my atheist & muslim friends on NL that one day the eyes of their hearts will be opened and the glorious light of the gospel will shine on it.

Christianity EtcRe: Is It A Sin To Bet On Sports by JeSoul(f): 2:27am On Jul 20, 2009
Many christians disagree on whether betting/gambling is a sin. I general rule to use in trying to decide whether or not something is a sin is to simply ask yourself this: Will this glorify God?

Here's an excellent article that I think does good justice in attacking the issue. Hope it helps!
http://www.gotquestions.org/gambling-sin.html

Question: "Is gambling a sin? What does the Bible say about gambling?"

The Bible does not specifically condemn gambling, betting, or the lottery. The Bible does warn us, however, to stay away from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5). Scripture also encourages us to stay away from attempts to “get rich quick” (Proverbs 13:11; 23:5; Ecclesiastes 5:10). Gambling most definitely is focused on the love of money and undeniably tempts people with the promise of quick and easy riches.

What is wrong with gambling? Gambling is a difficult issue because if it is done in moderation and only on occasion, it is a waste of money, but it is not necessarily evil. People waste money on all sorts of activities. Gambling is no more or less of a waste of money than seeing a movie (in many cases), eating an unnecessarily expensive meal, or purchasing a worthless item. At the same time, the fact that money is wasted on other things does not justify gambling. Money should not be wasted. Excess money should be saved for future needs or given to the Lord's work, not gambled away.

While the Bible does not explicitly mention gambling, it does mention games of “luck” or “chance.” As an example, casting lots is used in Leviticus to choose between the sacrificial goat and the scapegoat. Joshua cast lots to determine the allotment of land to the various tribes. Nehemiah cast lots to determine who would live inside the walls of Jerusalem. The apostles cast lots to determine the replacement for Judas. Proverbs 16:33 says, “The lot is cast in the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.”

What would the Bible say about casinos and lotteries? Casinos use all sorts of marketing schemes to entice gamblers to risk as much money as possible. They often offer inexpensive or even free alcohol, which encourages drunkenness, and thereby a decreased ability to make wise decisions. Everything in a casino is perfectly rigged for taking money in large sums and giving nothing in return, except for fleeting and empty pleasures. Lotteries attempt to portray themselves as a way to fund education and/or social programs. However, studies show that lottery participants are usually those who can least afford to be spending money on lottery tickets. The allure of “getting rich quick” is too great a temptation to resist for those who are desperate. The chances of winning are infinitesimal, which results in many peoples’ lives being ruined.

Can lotto/lottery proceeds please God? Many people claim to be playing the lottery or gambling so that they can give the money to the church or to some other good cause. While this may be a good motive, reality is that few use gambling winnings for godly purposes. Studies show that the vast majority of lottery winners are in an even worse financial situation a few years after winning a jackpot than they were before. Few, if any, truly give the money to a good cause. Further, God does not need our money to fund His mission in the world. Proverbs 13:11 says, “Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.” God is sovereign and will provide for the needs of the church through honest means. Would God be honored by receiving donated drug money or money stolen in a bank robbery? Of course not. Neither does God need or want money that was “stolen” from the poor in the temptation for riches.

First Timothy 6:10 tells us, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” Hebrews 13:5 declares, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” Matthew 6:24 proclaims, “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

buda atum:
Personally, I am glad there is one more thread on the subject, as I haven't had the opportunity to contribute to al those that exist and can't seem to find my way into the discussion. Let me state for the record that for me, God does not exist - and this is not a belief, it is what I know, though I am not here to bother to convince anyone as it is not a thing that can be proven.
buda atum:
I blame the atheists though, really. Some of us have made atheism into a religion in its own right, so we cannot claim to be any better than a Christian or a Muslim - we all seem to have something we decide to believe over something else.

I totally agree, Christians need a new sub-forum as well, before I registered I loved reading posts from Jesoul and the likes, now the religion forum is all about attacks by some certain set of people. The Christian forum should be about discussing the word of God.
aww thank you sweetie kiss

AIO & Gen2,
I believe I raised this issue months back. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-256119.0.html
There are many times I'd like to start a topic for christian discussion but becos I know it'll be hijacked and overrun by militant fanatic atheists I refrain from doing so. And I am positive this is the case for many of the christians who no longer frequent this section.

I do kinda like the way the forum is now with everyone as we get exposed to all kinds of different topics but I would love our own space targeted specifically for christian discussion where we can grow and encourage and debate other christians without disruption and insults from our friends of the other side. Breaking it down into 3 - christian section, muslim section and atheist section should suffice.

@All,
I'm sure you don't know but BudaAtum is an atheist. He just approaches the subject of religion from an angle I've never seen come from an atheist. It is quite refreshing to behold as he is honest, modest and graceful. I hope I (& we all) can learn something of these excellent qualities he has exhibited in his very limited appearance on NL.

Yeah Azoo the movie had several issues. I like Nicholas Cage so I didn't hate it as much as I should have  smiley

1. Somebody should have informed potential viewers that this is infact a scary movie, lol. I usually have moderate tolerance but this movie freaked me out in more ways than I'm accustomed to.

2. The plot was tight and did have potential to end creatively but you're right it didn't - new planet, new begining, the whole "adam & eve in the garden of eden" start a new race etc cliche. But I did kind of like the way the earth was destroyed   lipsrsealed cool

3. The little kid that played his son is a terrible actor. sorry kid, find a different profession before its too late. The other characters didn't even do so well themselves anyways.

4. The disaster scenes were very well executed & portrayed, maybe too well. The plane crash and subway shocked I felt like I was there too

  . . . I'll add more if I remember anything else

iice, have you heard about Von Tier's The AntiChrist? Coming out in a few weeks. Sounds VERY disturbing. A couple loses their kid to a balcony accident and during the time of grieving, things start getting VERY WEIRD

Part of me wants to see it, part doesnt. Apparently alot of gore, mutilation and quite a number of rape scenes  undecided. Rumor is that the rapes are real. The whole inclusion of rape and such is already turning me off. I guess since Dogville was his last hit, he's desperately looking for attention now.

People ARE praising it somewhat (supposedly brilliant story blah blah), while others are calling it torture porn.

Wouldnt surprise me if it's like the french movie, Irreversible which is only famous for the violent fire extinguisher scene and the 7 min rape scene (fake but very disturbing from what I hear cos it lingers) and Im so not into directors using things like this just to get attention and be all controversial. It's one thing if it goes with the plot but most times it doesnt.

Christianity EtcRe: For How Long Is The "last Days"? by JeSoul(f): 2:23pm On Jul 15, 2009
The "last days" begun right after the ascension of Jesus and arrival of the HolySpirit and will continue until the return of Christ.

Acts 2:
14Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17" 'In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people
.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
      and they will prophesy.
19I will show wonders in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20The sun will be turned to darkness
      and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

Are you suggesting that the word of God can be illogical and misguided? (and I am not just talking about christians but the mohammedans too.)
Of course not. Which is why I added the riff raff and scrubs will always be among us - and I believe God uses even them in His plan. Many here twist & misunderstand scripture - but its not exclusive to NL, it happens everywhere my brother. I don't speak for muslims as I'm not one, but even then I've seen some pretty cool and levelheaded muslims on NL.

I'm not bothered about other people thinking that Christians are logical or not. I'm bothered about 'christians' being rude, illogical and outright nasty.
You're right and I'm not making any excuses for them as there will always be the less mature among us. I just wish to remind that though the majority exhibit this unfortunate behavior, there are also a good number that are just wonderful here in this section, I don't want that fact to go unnoticed.
Christianity EtcRe: Do Muslims And 'christians' On This Forum Contribute To Atheist Cause? by JeSoul(f): 3:54pm On Jul 14, 2009
Pastor AIO:
I argued tirelessly against Huxley that being religious does not mean lacking logical faculties. I argued and argued only to see the religious members of this forum demonstrate his case over and over again. How embarassing!!

The point is not whether atheists can agree with each other, or whether religious people can agree with each other. The point is whether people can articulate their arguments intelligently, and debate with civility.
You make a good point but don't you think you're throwing all the christians in the same sorry boat? There are brilliant, articulate posts from christians in this section, its just unfortunate the others overshadow them.

And permit me to also add this. Isaiah 55 says:
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Whether or not the 'voice of God' is coming thru one of our resident well educated christians or from the lowest who didn't graduate middle school and can't put together an intelligent argument, or even from the misguided and often illogical christian - it is still the word of God, and will accomplish the purpose for which it was spoken. I do not excuse the poor behavior of us christians sometimes at all, the riffraffs and scrubs will always be among us, and even they serve a purpose in God's great design.

and I wouldn't concern myself so much with whether an atheist thinks christians are illogical or not - oftentimes regardless of what you say their mind is already made up. Put forth your truth and leave them to accept it or not. Christianity does not need validation or affirmation from anyone that it is sound and has 'logical' followers.
