Ibime:Is this scenario a purely hypothetical one or fondly reminisced one? ![]() |
ThiefOfHearts:lol . . . it looks unlikely I'll be able to get to it this weekend. More likely next week. JK did say he was going to see it. ThiefOfHearts:We should and we will. Its just that the religion section is sucha mess its hard to open and control relevant topics. |
Opinion paraded as fact is right. There was a segement where Judas was being touted as something other than the greedy, lying,back-stabbing ass he was. That the kiss was one of affection or something; He had no idea they were going to kill Christ, he didn't mean for it to go that far, ect. Right. What did he think they were going to do; give him a parking ticket? They sit in their offices, assume a professorial air, and say what was going on in Judas's mind two thousand years ago. Evidence? None. I found the history of the church far more intesting; the power struggles between Mary Madgalene and Peter after the death of their master.
lol, I've heard those too . . . I think those 'scholars' should be given awards for some of the conspiracy theories they drum up. Many times I just sit and laugh at how the make these assertions and declare them to be fact - without an ounce of proof or evidence. The bible already told us they are stuck "in the futility in their thinking". I'm reading accounts, right now, of the witch-burning trials conducted by the Inquisition. You will weep. The history of Roman Catholic Church shows it to be the very embodiment of evil and utter darkness in times past, of the worst aspects of human nature wielding manufactured 'divine' authority. I'll never get how adherents aren't embarrassed to be associated with it, but that's childhood religious conditioning for you.Heavy stuff sister. The very dark history of the catholic church is a matter of public record, history does not lie. I don't think most followers know of its history. No to Emily Rose. No means No!Perhaps I can convince you, a Roman Catholic priest is the main 'star' in the movie ![]() GEW, hold your horses now & don't worry we will revert back to movie speak, this isn't the religion section afterall. Max oya back to the regularly scheduled topic before we start katakata ![]() |
Oh no. I haven't seen a movie in ages. I'm not up to date. Last thing I saw was Craig's Casino Royale days ago. The only movies I'm going to see in the coming weeks are Harry Potter, Inglorious Basterds and Avatar.
So was it the movie you saw or was it Craig? tell the truth and let the devil be ashamed . . . JK, have you seen "Up"? |
I'm not watching that creepfest.
Oh common gurl, don't be sucha wuss ![]() Archeology? I saw a documentary where archeologists and other experts not only reconstructed village life when Christ lived, they recreated the likely scenarios of his birth and the games he likely played with other kids growing up. I finally understood what the famous manger might actually be, since there were no inns in existence in those times, and travellers depended exclusively on people's hospitality. They even showed how traders selling grain would cheat the scales and rip off the dumb. The political tensionss, religious and cultural norms, etc. Recently watched the discovery, long ago, of one of the most elusive objects in the field; the tomb of an Egyptian child-pharaoh. Found by an Englishman obssessed from his youth with finding it, though the search had been on for centuries with no luck. He stumbled upon it accidentally, while digging for something else. Imagine how he must have felt. They tomb was crammed full of vast treasures in gold, lapis lazuli, ornaments in precious stones, including chariots, all for the king's comfort in his afterlife. Fascinating. You're so speaking my language. I live on the history/discovery channel - right after espn, travel and foodnetwork . There have been all kinds of documentaries on the Life of Jesus and the times, really really fascinating stuff - sometimes misguided opinions paraded as facts - but nevertheless fascinating . I follow archeology, though not as keenly or madly as I follow say, quantum mechanics or cosmology. Any luck finding that 'lost' continent yet?Nah no luck just yet, but I will keep you posted ![]() |
duduspace:I know, I know and I'm sorry Yep the same way I understand those misguided souls killing people in the North and almost killed me in Kaduna in 2002 and before you go all Hezbollah on me again my point is that while you might not descend to killing people, the influences that motivate your actions are basically the same. But my dear dudu the influences that motivate me are soooo light years away and universes different from what motivates religious fanatics. I am motivated not just because I love God, but because I love my fellow men & women and want the best for them. I believe the world will end someday and those who haven't believed in Jesus will be cast away forever - I care enough to warn and tell as many people as I am able to so that they believe and are saved too. You have no idea how much my heart hurts for my unbelieving friends, and how I pray and wish their eyes would be opened and their hearts be enlightened to the truth. And as much as I care, God cares a billion times more - and this is my motivation. |
Mark my words, Odom will revert to his typical lazy, thuggish, underacheiving self. Most players go into stink-mode once they sign that contract and then return to top form in the final yr of the contract. Bawo, The football season hasn't started yet and your boys are already fighting? I could not stop laughing yesterday when I heard Urlacher called Jay Cutler "a pussycat without the cat" ROTFLOL I almost died of laughter I cannot wait to see how this turns out this season. |
I think that is fair to say that you have not yet found evidence that prayer works but it is unfair to say that prayer does not work at all. To say that prayer does not work at all implies that you have objectively looked at all the evidence. I just hope that you keep searching for the evidence or lack of it.
Worthy of being quoted. |
Btw, you people are talking smack about iice's husband ![]() |
Have you been led to this one yet, JS? Na so-so horror film ya own curiosity dey carry you dey go look. Seriously though, what's the attraction? And don't say its the 'story' o, since there's mostly none to speak of. I think the last horror movie I saw was The Ring, but the kid in it irritated me too much for any real scares. How can you endure it?
lol . . . seriously, I'm not even sure I am curious about a lot of things & I love to think - from archeology, to golf, to music, to science. I enjoy fiction (scary or otherwise) a lot cos it enables my mind to run wild and loose and imagine and get some bit of an insight into how other peoples minds work. I loved X-Files so much cos it unleashed my imagination with almost every episode - it was strange, different, unusual, complex, supernatural etc. To put it short - I am a think-freak if its going to entertain/challenge my brain, count me in!Got the Emily Rose thing on DVD, but the atmosphere in the movie was so terrible I got the blue blazes out of there.lol, well let us know if & when you get around to watching it. Watch it with someone, in the afternoon, with all the doors locked ![]() |
Bobby, I think most threads on islam posted here get moved to the islamic section - especially the 'hotly debated' ones. |
Chrisbenogor:And none here either. And don't be so shocked the next time you see me with a whip aight? Don't let the calm facade fool you sweetie, I gets fierce too.toneyb:In this instance yes. I will be so bold as to declare I do speak for all bible-believing christians on that statement. You're not a christian so I hold you wouldn't know much about what was the right or wrong interpretation/application of a biblical principle. Have your forgotten the contest that took place between prophet elijah and the prophets of baal according to the bible? Why was the test organised? Was it not to prove to the "infidel" baal worshippers that yahweh is greater and more powerful than their god? The bible talks only about faith. Jesus in the bible says that if you believe in him you will be able to perform magic, belief is the ONLY requirement and the bible doesn't say all the things you guys are telling yourself so that you will be able to sleep at night after praying and realizing that your prayers are nothing but you guys wishing and talking to yourselfs.Yet again, I reiterate, Elijah was the one praying to God for a sign - not the prophets of Baal. God answered Elijah, the prophets of Baal were never calling on God but on their own gods. @ Everything else you and Bindex said, Your unfortunate opinions of the scripture and you're certainly entitled to them. Cheers. |
Adrenaline:Gbam, gbam and gbam!!! |
Lol, Jesoul gets a lil tough and it hits hard. Well, at least the thread is here for all to see, read and determine on their own. Jesus sometimes approached with gentleness, other times He approached with a whip. I simply felt it an occasion for the latter. duduspace:You must have missed the scripture verse that says "The Kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force" Humble n meek does not equal helpless and weak. People forget its the same loving Jesus that unleashed fury in the temple. Chris, becos I like you & yes dudu too, I'm sorry I could not carry on in this thread with the usual geniality you're both used to from me. You must understand as precious and dear as God is to me, I cannot always approach with levity in these matters. Especially when the other side has been known to berate and ridicule Him and therefore me. |
duduspace: duduspace:Again it is very simple, but if it doesn't make sense to you, it is not your fault. 1 Cor 2:13-15. Gideon is a 'christian' and the others are not. When a christian approaches God as Gideon did, it is for direction and reassurance that it is indeed God speaking/leading. I pray and ask God for strength and reassurance everyday, the NT teaches this principle many a time. When a non-christian 'approaches' God as the researchers did, it is for 'proof' of His existence and omnipotence and God does not honor those types of pretentious, superficial advances. He is not a bored, poorly paid magician waiting on humans to demand He show His power at their beck and call - and one day you will find this out with undeniable finality. |
Chrisbenogor:Yes, and Creflo Dollar, Paula White, TB Joshua, Oyakhilome and co are all christians too. The mere fact that they put on a study to see if prayer "works" is a mountain of evidence that this so-called christian foundation do not even know the faith they proclaim to profess. |
Chrisbenogor:I was never trying to. Do atheists think christians are going about trying to convince them of God's existence? and His absolute power? well maybe some 'christians' are. But I repeat as I said to Dudu, the gospel is not meant to be proven or thrust hard enough upon someone so that they become convinced enough to believe it. It is meant to be preached and you either believe it or not. I testify that prayer and faith in God is 'real-er' to me than you are - do you have to believe me? of course not, but understand that I never was or ever will try to 'sell' my faith or experiences to you. Each person must walk their own path and find their own evidence - or as in the atheists case - a lack of it. |
duduspace:None of the above. My original statement was that "God is not in the business of proving Himself to anyone" was in the context of replying to Chris' scenario of the research that was done purporting to see if "God really answers prayers". As to your examples of Gideon and Elijah, the answer is very simple. Were Elijah and Gideon believers in God? yes. They weren't secular, atheist, researchers who aren't genuinely looking for God but moreso another reason to mock God & His believers. God does not go about looking to prove Himself to people like that. and the bible could not be clearer Rm 1:28 "Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind |
bawomolo: I am consoled by the fact that every championship team for the last 20-25 years won with at least 1 cheat on the roster. They should just go ahead and release all the 103 names on that black list and put the devil to shame. All this trickling out is rubbish. Expose all the cheats once and for all. ![]() |
Haaa.Don't mind me jare y'all where M.I.A now and NL has been kinda boring jare Moonstone is good she's chillin! I would send her your love
Please do ![]() He's a decent shooter and he has playoff experience there are very few starter quality players who would settle for bench roles e.g A.IThe poor dude, rumor has it he's headed for all-nba rejects Clippers or Memphis. Your Celts should be scared of Orlando ooh!! Carter was a steal they would not miss Turkoglu that muchAbegi, Carter is over the hill. Orlando had no answer for our sitffling defense if not for they shot that ridiculous 3pt %. |
A-40! looks like you've taken a short break from the "lounging" to holla @ us insignificants BTW, where's Moonstone? let her come out occasionally now . . .
Los Mavs sign Tim Thomas. . .Basketball is a funny sport i can remember 06 western conference finals when Dirk and Tim squared off and Tim mockingly made a kissing gesture at Dirk only for Dirk to go ahead and dump 50pts that night on the Suns lets see how they co-exist for the Mavs he is a decent player sha 8pts and 3 boards in 19mins aint shabby at all he would aid bench scoring for sure
I'm not sure what Tim Thomas has left in the tank and if he can significantly help the Mavs. You need 'starter quality' bench players if you're serious about being a title contender. Bawo you guys had better watch your backs for the Raptors and even the Wizards Luol Deng might not be 100percent and even if he is Ben Gordon produces more on the offensive endLeave him and let the up n' coming Wizzies bite them in the butt ![]()
As for Starbury it only shows that talent can only take you so far can remember back in them days when he and Steve Francis used to run things first in the West for the T.Wolves and Rockets respectively and briefly for the Knicks
What the heck even happened to Steve Francis? |
Chrisbenogor:Your opinion. My life and experiences and supernatural occurences in impossible circumstances prove beyond all doubt to me that the God I serve and love and will lay my life down for is real. duduspace:Your opinion. A quick search of bible commentaries will quickly show why millions of christians view and understand those verses you're refering to quite differently. |
Is it the "Islam" thread? it was moved to the Islamic section. |
May God's favor go before and after you and may He bless everything you put your hands to do and glorify His name through your life and testimony. It is well! In Jesus name. Amen. |
manmustwac:Would you be suprised to learn that the bible has the same position as you do? with one addition in that God can & will sometimes supernaturally act to prevent an accident. The bible teaches to pray AND act, not just pray alone and I challenge you or anyone else to show me otherwise from the bible. This is the real problem: Nigerians have completely abused & misunderstood the purpose of prayer. I'll keep saying it, turn to the bible and read what it teaches NOT what people are saying and 'doing' what it is errorneously purported to teach. |
Chrisbenogor:Two things jumped out at me from that summary: 1. They spent $2.4 million dollars on a "prayer study" 2. That any bible-believing church with the most rudimentary of knowledge of God and how He works would have agreed to such an undertaking I'm not suprised at the results. God is not in the business of "proving" Himself to anyone. He chooses to answer prayers when He wants and how He wants. And no amount of human coaxing - especially for the wrong reasons - will persuade Him otherwise. |
For real. I heard he said he doesn't want to go to Europe and no nba teams are expressing intrest besides the Celtics who offered to bring him back for a 1yr contract. Poor Starbury, he has fallen so so low since his celebrated arrival in NY as the savior. |
banom:ROTFLOL are you serious? |
I didn't go to the theatre to see it, now that I could never do. Saw it on one of those free movie websites. |
naliakar:See this boy, ring ke? lol did you just skip the whole dating and courtship section? Is that how you folks do it in Cambridge? ![]() QuoteWell they & massachusetts may boast to hosting the homes of "world intellectuals" but the benefit and effect of having these intellectuals around is distinctly missing. Exhibit A: Failed Healthcare Exhibit B: Failed Big Dig Exhibit C: Corruption in Beacon Hill Exhibit D: Increase in state tax by 25% going into effect in 2 days Exhibit E: Deval Patrick I rest my case ![]() |
Does anyone still take this lost, confused soul seriously? there is no voting going on anywhere. Insinuating Seun actually considered making him a mod is an insult to Seun's intellect. |
naliakar:hehe okay I hate Cambridgers except for Naliakar My 2 year stint in cambridge was very forgettable jare . Why are you cambridge residents/politicians always trying to dictate to the rest of us how we should live, what we can eat, what we can say . . . etc? |
