Such a waste angry angry angry
A waste it is indeed . . . that's the most drama we will see on the womens side. The rest of the field is a bore.

It is inevitable - a Federer vs. Nadal final.
Unfortunately for him it backfired. The disgruntled women are strong feminists, this woman does not stand for them.
But she is still a woman. Those same strong feminists would love to see a woman in such a position of power. Besides some of Hillary's die-hard supporters hate Obama and will not be voting for him anyways. This is a very logical alternative.

Plus don't forget that an Obama loss is a Hillary victory. It means she will be able to run again as the Dem nominee in 4 short years and I bet you her supporters will be taking this into account come november.

Kobojunkie:
Mind you, if you take a look at Palin, you will understand that she is not just a fresher ( with over 8 years of politics under her belt, which includes 2 years as governor) , she, like McCain have taken on the republican party ( their own base) in the fight against wasteful spending. Hence the reason why I say they are a good match there. Like I mentioned earlier, I was rooting for Mitt Romney, but he might be in McCain Cabinet in some office that he can better serve in.
IMHO, that is one of the most desirable qualities in a politician. She will steal the hearts of the blue-collar voters Obama was hoping to convince last night.

Not true o - these people cart the money back to the foreign land - they don't pump it into the economy - just like the indians, chinese, south africans do - South Africans are the worst culprits - they milk our country and take the money back to their country.
sad in that case you're talking about a different brand of people than I assumed. But is this phenomenon just unique to the foreign nationals? If such a business is not profiting the local community in Nigeria while enriching the owner then sir your beef is def legitimate.
Only when such a venture was profiting the local people with jobs and a service would it be nice, but if it were just to take and leave, in that case I'm with you. Isn't this kind of whats happening with our oil? the local people don't see any of the money, just the suits and that's not right.

I'm genuinely suprised.

I thot for sure he would pick Mitt Romney who literally owns the conservative base.

McCain musta thought: I'm tied with Obama in the polls even without Romney, how about picking a woman who can steal the remaining undecided, bitter, Hillary female voters? smiley

This election just got more intresting . . .

Seeing top seeds in the womens game making early exits is not a new thing jare. They don't have those one-of-a-kind dominating figures on top like the men do (Federer, Nadal).

It'll be one of the Williams sisters hoisting the trophy next weekend, not enuff competition in the field this yr. That yeye Justin Henin should not have retired, things woulda been much more intresting and with Sharapova sidelined with injury . . . just no real drama on the womens side.

I would first think of the hundreds, maybe thousands of unemployed graduates that will now have a job becos of these businesses, or the overall positive effect the establishment of new businesses have in growing the nigerian economy, or the previously untapped resources that they're now taking advantage of or the previously unavailable products/services that they're now providing etc . . .

nOT TRUE -

PEOPLE PUT THIS FEAR INTO THEM UN NECESSARILY - MY ENTIRE FAMILY GOT FED UP OF LIVING OUTSIDE NAIJA AND WENT BACK HOME ONE BY ONE - NOT A HAIR ON THEIR HEAD HAVE BEEN TOUCHED SINCE THEN. AND JUST LIKE MANY OF MY FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES.
Perhaps your family might be in the minority? Anyways we can argue either way. The bottomline is in general you're probably better off running your business from outside Nigeria than inside.

But you still did not answer this
"why you think its such a bad thing for nigerians living outside to make money from naija?
To me it is just plain good business sense; see a need and take advantage. Long as it is legal and profitable, where's the beef?"

Angry at what? Why is it generally mis contrued that anyone who speaks or write anything about or against people living outside Nigeria, generally is angry against them - some will even conjure in their minds that you have been denied visas thats why you are annoyed.
my bad, no vex I thot you were angry from your tone of writing :-)

I live in Britain - so - I am not angry at anyone who lives outside Naija - .
So why do you think its such a bad thing for nigerians living outside to make money from naija?
To me it is just plain good business sense; see a need and take advantage. Long as it is legal and profitable, where's the beef?

But your Uncles' case is one out of a million cases - sure banker.
uh uh *shaking my head* I'm not so sure that this is rare. If you take a look at past threads on this issue people are always wary of returning to naija because they fear for their lives and safety as it is common knowledge that people coming from yankee have huge target signs on their backs.
Don't get me wrong I love nigeria, it is where I was born. But you just gats to be real, it is not a safe place to live for those returning from extended exile.

They ran away when Nigeria was supposed to be bad - but now - they are coming home in droves - establishing businesses - in the same country they deserted when "it was bad".

If they are not back - they are doing business from where they are - and re partriating the money back to where they live -

What are they? opportunists or patriots?

Discussion time.
and whats so wrong with that? Nobody, I repeat Nobody will willingly want to live in a bad and corrupt society. Why are you angry at someone for wanting to live a nice secure life elsewhere? whether or not they still make money through naija why does it bother you? Opportunists or not, they are being smart! and many should follow their example jare.

When my uncle decided he wanted to go back n live in Naija, he wanted to run for office of the local govt and help, but what did the reigning politician do? they sent thugs and robbers to his house to beat him up and threatened him to leave and never return. I have seen that example and will never return to say I want to settle in naija, visit yes, but relocate? hell-to-tha no! too many people with bad belle and jealousy, I love nigeria, but my love is from a distance.

Anyway i guess you are right it is actually very difficult for the average Nigerian to discern who is genuine and who is not (even the devil knows the word of God very well) And some of them are really smooth talkers very convincing and charismatic. Even if a genuine man of God talks against them they would probably react and drag his name in the mud (God help us) Anyway as christians i believe we should be a lot more discerning and learn to depend more on the word of God by reading our bibles ourselves rather than waiting for a pastor to interprete the word of God to us.
Like you aptly noted that too many people are chasing God and religion for all the wrong reasons and hence why they get burned. Fact is these people chasing after pastors probably never had their foundation in the bible, the word of God. I guess I wouldn't expect them to suddenly turn back to the scriptures and let the scales fall off their eyes.

But it is sad though. The way these charlatans exploit people using the name of God . . . from centuries ago the european Crusaders all the way to the local pastors of today. My only comfort is that God will hand out fitting justice to all on that day.

Since there are a lot of munguns who are seeking God for the wrong reasons, how won't these evil pastors take advantage of them. the annoying thing is that even the genuine Pastors are keeping an unholy silence and allowing all this evil to go on unchecked
But Kunle what do you expect the 'genuine' pastors to do? Even if they have spoken up against it, you & I will probably never hear about it - that does not make the news. How are they "allowing all this evil to go on"? they are not responsible for the wolves in sheeps clothing parading as men of God all over the country.

Well think about it for a sec gurl. Is it about voting according to a party? or according to the person running? I don't care about a person's party affiliation (though I'm not blind to the fact that it is important) but I care about that person's philosophy and policies and whether or not they are sensible/reasonable. how so? McCain is full of suprises and has slowly chipped away at Obama's previous double-digit lead at the polls. Who's to say this trend will not continue up till november?

Also, those polls, from what I know, are based on previously registered voters. There are lots of first time voters, especially young people, who are registering just because of Obama. So that would help push him up a bit.
Perhaps. But I don't see this small minority of young 1st time voters significantly affecting anything . . . maybe a little push like you said, but I don't think its enough to make it significant. I guess we'll find out in a few months. smiley
