Christianity EtcRe: Is Dejavu The Evidence Of A Parallel Universe? by JeSoul(f): 5:40pm On May 02, 2012
logicboy: Watching fringe shows the endless possibilities of science and the randomness of life. If you notice, many innocent people just die like fowls on fringe, a psychopath can kill hundreds of people with airborne viruses, you could have a wormhole to the next universe that destroys a whole city etc.
100% on point -plus more and that is part of the allure. You'll note that Walter is frequently seen as nuts by the other people around him who don't know about Fringe division and he even still amazes those who know him. The very definition of "Fringe" itself denotes a departure and deviation from orthodox theories & means of conducting research - which includes the considerationg & embracing of even the most ludicrous and seemingly impossible alternatives. Just like a tv would've been considered outrageous at one point, some of what is 'fringe' today will not be at another point. What we know is constantly evolving...

Also, an alternate universe would have jesus christ not denied by peter or betrayed by Judas and therefore not crucified. Which means that Jesus or christianity can be a failure in an alternate universe that comprises of forgone alternatives.
Haha...well, there would be an infinite amount of possibilities all around.

Remember that cortexifan makes people god-like
Do you think there are people right now with abilities that defy explanation? There was a thread on unexplained events/occurences, lemmme see if I can find it.

logicboy: Can you believe that I have no connection to logic mind? It's quite weird that we are both atheists with logic in our names.

I created my username and logged into Nairaland in march/feb and lo and behold, I find some other atheist called logic mind
Lol. I kept confusing the two of you at first because you both showed up around the same time with the launch of NL2. You sure you're not related? cheesy

^^lol. I'm sure he'll be here to defend himself against the intolerant & hateful jesoul when his ban is up on friday I believe. I don't think he's a bad dude, just needs to develop some patience that's all. And I could've probably been a bit more patient with him...but this is also not a lawless section.

logicboy: 100% agree. Then why arent u agnostic/atheist?
Why so? do you think those views are incompatible with christianity?
Christianity EtcRe: Is Dejavu The Evidence Of A Parallel Universe? by JeSoul(f): 4:16pm On May 02, 2012
logicboy: I stopped watching because it became so increasingly and uncessarily complex. An alterbate universe in America would be Japanese/german (losing ww2). So many loopholes
Lol. No such thing as a perfect story without loopholes. But I do agree they went on a tangent that wasn't necessary, but still, there's no other show quite like it on TV.

Jenwitemi lives in a fantasy land.
Hmm... personal experiences are a tricky thing. You can't prove it to anyone but at the same time you're so sure of it. I don't think we should discount peoples experiences. Like I mentioned to diluminati, someone talking about a screen with moving images of people from across the globe shown live would have seemed utterly ridiculous to someone from the stone-age. I'm sure there are many utterly ridiculous things today that won't be in the future.
Christianity EtcRe: ISLAM Section Becomes A No Go For Christians And Atheists , WHY ? by JeSoul(f): 4:11pm On May 02, 2012
Snowwy: @Jesoul,
I have no issues with anyone being on the forum, however, to be fair, the yardstick used on the muslim section should be used on the general religion board.
Oga, I'll be the first to tell you the yardsticks used across various sections on NL are not equal lol. If you spend anytime in the politics section you'll see bans are (and have to be) dished out daily to numerous posters, as its a popular board and gets a ton of traffic. Here bans are rare as its a smaller family and people generally ease up when adviced. I don't want us (religion section) to be a "tight" and "rigid" as the islam section, it'll take all the fun away.

However, you have proven two salient points:

1. Aethism is a religion afterall
grin na you talk am oh! lol.

2. Islam is not tolerant esp. With what we have seen in the world and Nigeria.
Well, the people who threatened and forced Seun into making a seperate section certainly weren't.

I just needed the clarity.
Thanks and weldone.
Oga you're welcome.
Christianity EtcRe: ISLAM Section Becomes A No Go For Christians And Atheists , WHY ? by JeSoul(f): 3:44pm On May 02, 2012
Snowwy: @Jesoul, your response to Frosbel shows that atheist should not be welcomed on the religious board as well as it is a place to 'share our belief in God...or any higher powers'. These atheists claim not to believe in God or any higher power. Therefore it is one of two things:

1. The MODs are allowing this slip
2. The atheists actually believe in God but use the cloak of the privacy of the internet names to masquerade as atheists.

I chose the latter though.
Pls see my reply to Italo. The religion section is an umbrella section for all things related to religion - and atheism obviously is. Are we only to be tolerant of views and opinions that we agree with? is that how we will make a difference?
Christianity EtcRe: ISLAM Section Becomes A No Go For Christians And Atheists , WHY ? by JeSoul(f): 3:42pm On May 02, 2012
italo: and what does the title or the religion section say?

"Religion: Share your faith and belief in God or higher powers here."

are the mods religious people or people of faith? if not, why not?

if they are, why do they allow contents that are contrary or even insulting to faith and general belief in God or deities?

do we have to threaten Seun's life first?
Dude, you're preaching to the choir. I don't make the rules around here. The religion section is for any and all things religion-related apart from Islam - Pro-religion, anti-religion, don't-know religion.

As a christian myself, I expect a higher threshold of tolerance & patience from christians towards others - or else our faith is worthless.

frosbel: Indeed, Indeed !!

A volatile lot grin
You no answer my kweshion, will you protect Seun if they go after him? cheesy

Because I do not correspond with posters off NL, here's a correspondence for the public record:
A msg (the last of several) from LM thru NL to my email acct
from: Logic Mind / Nairaland <private-message@nairaland.com>
Subject: I won
To: "jesoul / Nairaland" <deleted>
Date: Sunday, April 29, 2012, 8:31 AM

you can't ban me legally so i made you draw bad card.
which rule did i break? none.
but your hatred can't resist.
great christian!
light is always shinning despite your "this post has been hidded" and secret bans.
haha
tried and tested but never worked.
My response:
Lol. Secret ban? don't flatter yourself. I posted it on the mod thread for all to see that I banned you and I will post this as well because I do not correspond with posters off NL so you can't come back and say otherwise. What offence did you commit? you came right back to the same thread and reposted the same thing that got you banned in the first place - should I also mention the expletive filled msg you sent me via NL? So you were banned again - this time for a week since 24hrs did not seem to help the last time.

I pleaded with you to take it easy - your response was you will continue do whatever you want. You're the only atheist in the section who refuses to follow common rules of decency - and I don't have the time to babysit. If you have a problem, you can report to Seun.

Cheers.
Christianity EtcRe: ISLAM Section Becomes A No Go For Christians And Atheists , WHY ? by JeSoul(f): 3:03pm On May 02, 2012
frosbel: Muslims can raise new topics in this general section which is all well and good.

But I raised a new topic in the ISLAM section which was deleted, a very inoffensive article if I may add.

Why do we now have a situation on this forum where one rule is made for only one particular sect and others can go 'hang'.

I understand radical Muslims are instilling fear into all and sundry worldwide , but this is an anonymous forum where freedom of speech should be of paramount importance, or is it huh

Atheists have turned the general section into a rude, bible bashing, Christian insulting and childish kindergarten-like place , but you never ever expect their posts to be deleted or comments for that matter.

I await further deletion of this article from the politically correct moderators.
The title of their forum does say "Islam for muslims. Muslims only please". So my guess is any non-muslims would be allowed at the discretion of their mods, and of course 'discretion' is subjective. Are muslims being treated differently? yes, they have a seperate section, Seun's perogative and we have to deal with it as we're on his forum. Don't forget he was threatened with a fatwa...Frosbel will you protect him when they go after him? lol.
Christianity EtcRe: Jesus And/or Paul by JeSoul(f): 8:04pm On May 01, 2012
I've come across this write-up before online and was terribly disappointed at the quality of the 'discrepancies' the author asserts. There is scholarship out there that academically shows issues with Paul vs Jesus' teachings (see this thread https://www.nairaland.com/442151/strangers-allies-paul-knowledge-jesus) but this, even without reading the NT, any average student of english can readily chuck up an overwhelming percentage of the 101 to mere semantics. The rest can be attributed to contextual manipulation, juvenile misinterpretation of Paul's words and outright twisting of otherwise simple statements. Maybe only a couple are actually worthy of being discussed. I honestly can't take this author seriously, there is far better scholarship on this issue out there than this.

I mean see these:
(2) Jesus warns that not everyone who calls him Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven (Mt 7:21); but Paul says everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rm 10:13).

(9) Jesus says we should pray in private and not on street-corners (Mt 6:5-6); but Paul says we should pray everywhere (1 Tim 2

(59) Jesus says the heavenly Father gives us "good things" (Mt 7:11); but Paul says the heavenly Father gives us "all things" (Rm 8:32).
Seriously??

@Muskeeto,
pick one or two from this list to focus on, the vast majority are really disgraceful attempts at discrediting Paul.

Muskeeto whut up?

There are so so many flavors of 'christianity' in our world today, so many different kinds of 'followers' of Christ, each complete with their own tailored rules & doctrines that they use to declare people 'saved' or 'lost'. What it takes is really a constant stripping away of all the garb, religious pomp & ceremonial circumstance and return to the heart of what Jesus Himself really taught as seen in the gospels.

As soon as I saw the title, my mind went straight to Fringe, only to then see you mention the show in your post smiley. I love that series! So many mind-bending concepts and theories, radical brain entertainment.

Is there a 'parallel universe'? complete with alternate versions of ourselves? What we know now says no. Personally, my shelving unit of things/ideas labelled 'impossible' is very thin. In the very quest itself of considering these things - without necessarily getting an answer either way - is where I find the most value.

Sorry I didn't/can't exactly 'comment' on the issue smiley

Logicboy,
sorry for the late response, I'm not usually online over the weekends. I just checked, and no you weren't banned by the mods, it was the the spambot. It deletes posts it deems to be spam and bans the user for exactly an hour, after which you'll be able to post again. That's what happened. Like I mentioned before, 'banning' is generally not my style unless in extreme cases and the poster will be cautioned well ahead before it gets to that. I was even defending and commending you and the way you've adjusted and interact with other posters recently.

So no nothing to worry about from me. You're doing alright as far as I'm concerned. Cheers.

and oh as for that other thread, I've locked it. You showed good spirit taking it in stride and playing along. Kudos.

Lol. Substitute with any other fruit you like blueberries, kiwi, banana etc. Avoid oranges though...those seeds are quite unpleasant when ground up, unless you like a bitter crunchy tart that'll get stuck in ur teeth with your drink cheesy and oh I forgot to add a bit of ice in the recipe to give it a full body and maintain that chilly temp.

Christianity EtcRe: Is The Adam And Eve Creation Story Real? by JeSoul(f): 6:59pm On Apr 26, 2012
Deep Sight: Could it be that the legend related in Genesis regarding the fall of man in Eden is not a reference to an event that occured in this world, but rather describes the departure of the spirit of mankind from the eternal spiritual realm into the world of matter?

This would tally with many things. A forbidden fruit would be the world of matter. Entering into it would bring about knowledge of good and evil, as presumably there is no evil in the realm from which the spirit came. Or there is just pure neutrality. Casting out man from the garden would be sending the spirit out of the spiritual realm into the world of matter. Wearing animal skins is a clear indicator of the physical bodies that man must wear to live in the physical world. Such bodies bear close resemblances to animal bodies. It is instructive that the fruit is given by the woman, since it is by women that we are born into the world of matter. On top of all that God promises that if man eats the fruit he shall die. It is certain that death is only known to man once he has entered the world of matter. Above all the reference to the Lord God strolling in the Garden and communing daily with man there on a one to one basis indicates that this was a spiritual realm where God's presence was.

Most instructively however, the TREE OF LIFE was said to reside in the garden. Crucially, it is said to be guarded by cherubs and a flaming sword after the fall of man. That says it all; it could not have been this earth. It was another realm. The ultimate realm.
Interesting take. Various interpretations abound. From my understanding of the above, it would appear the 'location' of the event matters little to the moral of the story. Or you see it otherwise? Much like my approach to evolution - the process matters little to the moral - that God created all.

logicboy: Thank you for your input. I disagree but it is nice to understand others' perspectives
You're most welcome.
Christianity EtcRe: Is The Adam And Eve Creation Story Real? by JeSoul(f): 6:06pm On Apr 26, 2012
logicboy: Please, I want to know if people really believe in the Adam and Eve story.

I also want to know if people think that this is a better alternative to evolution.

I support evolution but I am not here to argue, I just want to see people's beliefs. There are other threads for evolution vs creationism arguments.

Please state your beliefs and why;
I'm glad you opened this thread...I was going to reply your comment on that other one. Personally, I believe in the story of Adam & Eve 100%. However, we must also understand that there are several interpretations of the story of creation in Genesis. I do believe humanity began with them and God created us all.
A very wise NLder named Justcool once said and I quote:
Creationism does not oppose evolution; neither does evolution oppose creationism and God. They simply approach the matter from different perspectives.
The theory of evolution has many flaws, inconsistencies, gaps and glaring issues that are yet to be explained, so perhaps the theory as is right now could/probably is wrong in some regards. However, it is the best explanation science has right now and I have no problem with that. In spite of the many issues, I don't think it should be dismissed as a total 'myth'. Where the wahala begins, is when proponents of evolution who have an anti-God agenda begin to hijack it and assert that the theory excludes the possibility of an intelligent designer.

Evolution merely attempts to address the 'process' of how we got here, it does not comment the existence of a God in the midst of that process. The bible is NOT a scientific book and religious folks who attempt to introduce it as evidence in scientific discussions are making a grave mistake. They're both addressing the subject from different perspectives. And when placed side by side, they are not necessarily incompatible with each other - though I admit it takes some subjective interpretations of both to see that.

^my own two kobo. Cheers.

Logicboy,
quick question. Do you conceed that despite the fact its the 'closest' explanation science has, there are some real issues with the theory of evolution? I think that may be all that David is saying.

As a side point, there should probably be clear definition of what a 'creationist' is, because not all christians believe alike in the very basic interpretation of Genesis. I for one do not subscribe to the view of a 6000yr old earth, that's obviously not correct. Cheers.

Christianity EtcRe: Nairaland Theological Forum:- Is It A Forum Or A Pulpit by JeSoul(f): 7:13pm On Apr 24, 2012
Jenwitemi: I understand fully well that there will be folks who love to discuss or debate, while there are others who just want to preach their own versions of what they think is the truth and have no wish to debate anything. May i, therefore, suggest that the administrator changes the present forum to be called "Theological Forum" in order to include wider audience of different beliefs (or lack of it) and not just those of christian beliefs, and open a sub forum for the Christian preachers. This way preaching threads won't be mixed with real discussion threads.
I'm not sure I understand this bit. The section is already a giant umbrella that includes deists, theists, nativists, atheists, agnostics and co (only the muslims are seperate), it is by no means the 'christian section'.

This separation, i think, is very necessary because there are folks here who are not interested in listening to preachings but, rather, are here for the discussions and debates. What does Seun and the mods think?
Haba Jenwitemi, they are not forced to click on those threads now are they? huh Simply skip over threads/titles that one has no interest in and participate in the debate ones.

Please my friend, your immigration status is not nearly as important as your health status. Go and get tested. Early detection can make a world of difference and whether it is HIV or some other ailment, you can begin treating and managing the disease. You will eventually have to confirm it, better to do so sooner than later and possibly save your life. Goodluck.
