Christianity EtcRe: Where Did Cain Got His Wife? by JeSoul(f): 7:22pm On May 21, 2012
LilMizzGood: ok would like to tell me which race coloured was Adam and Eve if they were one coloured shouldn't we all be that same coloured as are the children of Adam and Eve.
Generous scientific estimates have human beings existing for ~a quarter of a million yrs and above (pls note that it is only one interpretation of the bible that some say we've been around for only 6000yrs). Take into account variation, drift, environment and so many other factors over such a long period of time and you have what you call "races". Color is merely skin-deep, on the genetic level we are all very similar.

When I go on vacation to a warmer climate and spend ample time in the sun, my skin gets darker. When I return home, over the winter months with little sun, I revert back to my lighter color. People living under intense sunny, dry, humid conditions will have a different look from those living in Alaska - imagine something like this happening over millions of years - along with other factors.

Where did Cain get his wife?

(Gen. 4:16-17) - "Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17And Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son," (NASB).

We see in the Bible in Genesis 3 where Adam and Eve were cursed and sent out of the Garden of Eden. In Genesis 4, Cain kills Abel. In Genesis 4:17 above we see that Cain had relations with his wife. Where did he get his wife? The answer is simple. Cain married one of his sisters **(or niece or other female relative).

Genesis 5:4 says, "Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters.""‘No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD," (Lev. 18:6). We see that Adam and Eve had many sons and daughters. The genetic lineage of Adam and Eve was perfect so marrying a sister wasn't going to cause birth defects. It wasn't until much later, during the time of Moses, that incest was forbidden as the genetic pool became less and less able to stand interbreeding.
Welcome to the Lagos Consevative Center, My name is Sisi and I will be your guide.

What you see here ladies and gentlemen is the start of the mating call of higher primate. Confined to the wilds of the conservation center, the male primate knows he has limited choices, so he must do everything in his power to get his female mate before she lost to him forever. So he mounts her on a plank, uses his sturdy legs and some other big part of his anatummy to hold her captive. The puckering of the lips shows his willingness to swap spit with her, for the higher primate there no greater show of commitment than this.

It is now up to the female primate to show if she willing to take on what he is offering. . .from the way her hands are firmly planted on the plank, instead of touching him. . .it doesn't seem like it's good news for the male primate. Hope is not lost though, the female primate is well known for her fickle mind, so don't be surprised if by the time you come back to the conservation center. . .you are greeted with a sight of mini- primates.

Next stop. . .The Mating Calls for the Pepeyes.
SISI KILL . . . you are insane!!!! cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy Lol. Abeg take us to the pepeye section cheesy

omoola007: I am putting this place on my list of things to do on dry weekend day. This and NIKE's Art Gallery. the Gallery is a must see. its the best in Logos if not Nigeria. I love the place.
That I completely second you on. I went wild in that place Lol. So much beautiful art crammed into 4 (or was it 5 floors? now) stories. It is definitely one of the best art galleries I've personally been to in terms of the quality of the art, just wonderful. Pricey, but hey good quality stuff does not come cheap. Mama Nike herself was there that day, she was just absolutely pleasant to talk to and oozing with wisdom. It was wonderful to meet her.

^lol.

I was there in January 2012. The pictures are about right - the only thing we saw were peacocks, tortoises & monkeys, butterfly self we no even see that one. They said the alligators were 'out of season' so no show there either.

I hate to be a damper on the positive comments but I was terribly disappointed and I love stuff doing stuff like that. I definitely praise the effort to preserve and promote areas like these within the mad jungle that is lagos but they have a very very long way to go in my opinion. We should encourage & support projects like these if they are to really step up their game.
If I'm not too lazy I'll upload some pictures when I get home.

^even if one has 'never left nigeria', it has no reflection on how learned the mind is.
logicboy: Were my two examples of the big church and Nigerian christian brothers not a clue to the daylight robberies that go unpunished in the name of christianity?
No not really dude.
Many incredible edifices remain all over the world as remnants from eras gone by, many of them from times humans did terrible things. But this isn't limited to just religion so what's the point?

The 'nigerian christian brothers' part is a reflection of the overall corrupt nature of the average nigerian who travels abroad in search for golden eggs - the fact they chose 'church business' to be their hustle...again this has no bearing on the validity of religion itself.
btw dont expect any such topic to come to the front-page. Nairaland is controlled by christians who wont let that happen. such topics will never come on the front. .
This isn't true.

Seun the owner and head admin is an atheist and Mukina the second in command is a muslim. They pick the topics that go on the FP. And if you pay any attention to FP topics, they are mostly controversial towards christianity because it gets more attention & drives more traffic. So on the contrary your topic would be a good candidate.

Pastor Kun: Yes the fans are being foolish but i don't agree with you the pastors are being foolish in this case they are actually making money from it so it can't be a case of foolishness. maybe another word would describe them better.
Abi oh, you are quite right. The pastors are 'entrepreneuers' for seeing a business (money making) opportunity & taking advantage of it.

Christianity is mostly a tithing scam. End of story.

I second Muskeeto.

Where's the rest of the story & what's the point? I've been to many parts of the world and almost everytime I ran into a Nigerian they were up to no good. What does the fact these ones were into 'church business' have to do with religion & atheism? huh

pdudy: I want to know with immediate effect, why I was suddenly banned from using the forum.

I followed all the laid down rules accordingly, only to find out I was banned for no reason.

A speedy explanation would be needed.

My banned ID is pDude.
Hi Pdude, the spambot got you. It tags & deletes posts it deems to be spam and bans the user for exactly an hour, after which you'll be able to post again. I just untagged the post it banned you for. There's definitely nothing in it that should've triggered the spambot...the spambot is frequently wrong and can be a pain in the rear.

Due to a glitch in NL2 I can't unban you right away, but the spambot ban will expire in about 30mins so sit tight. The mods will never ban you outright without several notices, next time you can be sure its just the spambot and the ban will last for only 1 hr. Cheers dude smiley.

Christianity EtcRe: Saving Islam & Christianity From Atheists Bashing by JeSoul(f): 3:54pm On May 11, 2012
This is a thoroughly fantastic article.

I'm not entirely with him on the aspect of completely 're-defining' and 're-interpreting' scripture to fit our modern times. Just because a belief is 'old' doesn't mean it should be thrown away. But I understand the point behind it - to evolve, and to let our beliefs and behaviors evolve to be more loving towards people who don't believe as we do.

But conversely, we cannot underestimate what the four horsemen of New Atheism – Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens – have done to widen the divide between religious believers and non-religious believers. Their articulate presentation of their views and deeply convincing writings shouldn’t blind us to the essence of religion and our need to reinterpret and redefine religious texts. If these leading atheists are really in search for cosmic or absolute truth, instead of incessantly thumping religion, they should encourage religious erudition, contextualisation and reasoning, as some of the answers they may be looking for may be buried deep in these ancient texts.

We often condemn religion as something simple and backward but we treat philosophy and science as pursuits of rigorous and profound study. Perhaps the reason why Dawkins et al. fail to see the profundity in religion is because, as Plato said, an individual can only master one art. The four horsemen are all leading experts in their respective fields, and indeed know more about religion than the masses – but, ultimately, they are pseudo-experts on religious texts.
Spot on!

HealthRe: Causes Of Yellow, smelly Stone-like Lump In The Mouth. by JeSoul(f): 5:56pm On May 08, 2012
Yomieluv: I have
Always had this smelly stone-like lump come out of my•mouth, please,I want to know the• Cause,&any possible solution.please help
Sounds like you have Tonsil stones. According to docs its not harmful but can be a nuisance. If I'm not mistake the only solution is to have your tonsils taken out by a doctor. But see one first to determine what's best for you. Goodluck!

http://www.everydayhealth.com/ear-nose-throat/tonsil-stones.aspx
Have you ever discovered a white or yellow lump of material that seems to be attached to your tonsils? It may have been a tonsil stone.

Tonsil stones are thought to occur when bacteria, dead skin cells, and other debris collect and calcify on the surface of your tonsils. In most cases, tonsil stones do not cause problems, but they sometimes lead to bad breath, discomfort, and other worrisome symptoms.

How Do Tonsil Stones Develop?

Tonsil stones are still somewhat of a mystery to doctors and researchers, but researchers suspect that people who have had frequent episodes of tonsillitis are at increased risk of developing tonsil stones. This is because frequent infections of your tonsils make them more likely to have developed areas of excess fibrous tissue. This excess tissue on the surface of your tonsils can lead to the development of pockets and crevices on your tonsils.

Dead skin cells, bacteria, and other substances can collect within these pockets and crevices, forming a mass of debris. The salts in your saliva can cause the mass of debris to calcify, and form a "stone" of material that stays lodged in your tonsils. Tonsil stones tend to gradually get larger as bacteria grow and more debris is deposited and calcified.

How Do Your Know if You Have Tonsil Stones?

It is often hard to tell if you have tonsil stones, because they can be very small and easily hidden in the pockets and crevices of your tonsils. But when they can be seen or when they are removed, tonsil stones tend to be whitish or yellowish in color, and usually relatively small. The consistency of tonsil stones can range from soft and pliable to hard as a rock.

Most of the time, tonsil stones do not cause any symptoms at all. But when they do, symptoms may include:

Bad breath
Enlarged, swollen tonsils or tonsil
Sore throat Pain with swallowing
Difficulty swallowing The sensation that something foreign is lodged in your throat
Anyone can get tonsil stones, but they are most common in young adults who have a history of recurrent throat infections.

Diagnosing and Treating Tonsil Stones

Your doctor can usually diagnose tonsil stones by examining your throat or manually removing the stone. In some cases, an imaging study (for example, an X-ray or CT scan) may be required to confirm the diagnosis and better visualize the tonsil stones.

If your tonsil stones do not cause any symptoms or problems, no treatment will be required. But if you have a stone that is very large or is associated with worrisome symptoms (such as pain, swollen tonsils, or problems swallowing), you may need treatment. Tonsil stones are sometimes removed surgically, or if the stone is large and impacted within your tonsil, you may need to have a tonsillectomy (the surgical removal of your tonsils).

Preventing Tonsil Stones

The best way to prevent tonsil stones is to avoid developing pockets and crevices in your tonsils in the first place. The following steps can help you do just that, by reducing your risk of recurrent episodes of tonsillitis:

Wash your hands frequently.
Avoid sharing dishes, utensils, and toothbrushes with, and kissing people who have tonsillitis.
If you have tonsillitis frequently, ask your doctor if he or she recommends a tonsillectomy.

Christianity EtcRe: Logicboy Was A Christian For 22 Years by JeSoul(f): 3:14pm On May 08, 2012
logicboy: I was a catholic but have always been a bit secular. I grew up watching MTV and Cartoons. I also made fun of protestant churches with their fake miracles and speaking in tongues.

When I moved to the UK, I became more secular. I found it a waste of time to go to church during winter. Freezing my azz off to go to church on sunday when I can watch premiership football.

However I was still a christian then. As someone that likes to get facts and argue, I started reading about the major wars and civilization. I read about slavery, Roman empire, medieval Britain etc.

The fateful day came when I was racially abused by an atheist white man, who said that "blacks are stupid because they are accept a religion that enslaved their people and they still like the image of a white Jesus; It is a curse to be black". Normally, as a London black boy, there are two ways of dealing with racists; beating sense into the racist or logically exposing the fallacious argument supporting racism. However, I was rooted to the spot. The part about slavery was right. The racist was mostly wrong but there was an element of truth. We had statues of a white Jesus in the 3 biggest catholic churches in Lagos.

I went home and started reading on "christianity and slavery".....that was the beginning of my alter-ego; logicboy. Logic became my Master.

Christianity is a foriegn religion to Nigeria and is no less of a fairytale than Shango or Ogun or thor.
Thanks for sharing this. I think we all have moments like that that force us to look inwards and evaluate our beliefs. Muskeeto is right in saying this "better a self-aware ATHEIST than a zombie CHRISTIAN".

Going by our story, and not meaning to make any declarations about you, but it seems you were never really a christian. You merely practiced a religion you were born into - this is quite different from reaching an age of accountability and then making a purposed and conscious decision to walk a certain path.

On a final note, does the fact an "idea" or "teaching" or "philosophy" or "technology" etc etc was "imported" make it wrong? or useless? or racist?

@Logicboy, I read the post.

On Jesus being God - you'll find that many christians do not even fully agree on that.

On being a follower of Christ - perfect answer.

Might I ask what you personally think about the life of Jesus Christ? Not whether you belive it, but what you think about the morals of the stories recorded in the gospels. Cheers.
