If you are don't have other motives behind your assertions, you wouldn't have said he is licking boots because he didn't.
Even the billionaire Otedola prostrates for his mother and those older than him.
Wizkid prostrates for those older than him despite his ruggedness, wealth and what not..
It is the culture of the Yorubas, and it is a beautiful thing to behold.
Regardless of your wealth and position in life, age automatically bequeaths you honor.
They are only giving honor to the rags and experiences that come with age. When you prostrate for an elder in Yorubaland, they acknowledge your greeting with a prayer and blessings. That is the expected thing, you can say amen to the prayers too.
So dont think it's just done for the sake of doing it.

You can show respect to an elder without having to prostrate. I don't have any motive for my assertion, just that I don't like that culture of prostrating. It's not only degrading but awkward at the same time

So those in England who curtsy and bow to their princes and other royalty are also slaves?
Just bowing one's head in greeting is different from prostrating and licking boots

Some aspects of culture should be jettisoned including this one

What is humiliating about one's culture? It is only those with low self esteem who will be embarrassed about greeting their elders in their culture or language.
It is indeed a thing of pride for any parent to see their child demonstrate the home training they have given such a child. The self confidence of children raised to know who they are and their identity is usually very high up there.
Not every aspect of our culture should be promoted! Some ought to be done away with including this barbaric act of prostrating like a slave to another human being.

All these rubbish acts we call respect have got to stop! Why make a child go through such humiliation and degradation in the name of respecthuh I'm ashamed of this Ambode of a man! Anything just to be in the good book of the Buhari government. Tufiakwa!!!!

As an elder, I'll never allow any child prostrate to me for whatever reason!

This is too bad and dangerous for the healthcare system of this country!

These pharmacists in academia work hard to train not only quality pharmacists for the country but also other healthcare professionals like medical doctors, dentists, nurses etc. Why are they being treated differently by the management of UNIBENhuh Why has Faraday Orumwense refused blatantly to pay them their professional allowanceshuh This is not fair at all!

And UNIBEN faculty of pharmacy has some of the best brains in the country! Why has UNIBEN decided to treat them like they are not importanthuh I understand that the federal government releases the money to the university management on a regular basis but the VC and his cohorts are the ones who refused to pay the money to these lecturers! What a shame on a university like UNIBEN that should be among the best in the country!

The federal government should urgently look into this matter and save these students from frustration! EFCC
and ICPC should beam their searchlights into UNIBEN. Orumwense should be arrested and made to account for all his mismanagement of funds since assumption of office as VC.

Nonsense!!!

This is one of the reasons why the north will continue to be politically at advantage than the south. They marry early when their bodies are very fresh and ready for child bearing.

Down south, we keep chasing money and flirting away our youthful energy until 40-45yrs of age. At that time, a 45yrs old man would now go and marry a 40yrs old lady and afterwards, they start TTC. If luck is on their sides, they end up birthing at most 3 kids while some end up with less or even none at all. This trend has continued unchecked and is even getting worse.
Tell me why the north will not control our political affairs as a nation under such condition! Politics is a game of number and those with the highest number will always carry the day.

Honestly, the south needs to brace up with reality and unite to ask for restructuring this nation so that the different regions can have autonomy and develop at their own paces.
If this not done, then I pity the political future of southern Nigeria.

I think some of them do it out of selfishness. After spending many years in school, a lady should know better not to hold on to some backward orientation gotten from home.

Many men cannot handle it because money is their way of controlling their wives. They wield power because they are the ones with the money.

So it is hard for such men to relinquish that power by letting the wife have more money. They can no longer be the god they want to be.

The best way is to live without competition or lording over each other with money. It is just a terrible orientation and mindset that has been fed overtime.
Nigerian women love to be controlled with money!

I only suggested the right way to follow. Human being varies with different way of thinking. What meant be small mistake to students may be blunder to some lecturers. You need to study your supervisor by asking questions. This is what you see in many public universities in Nigeria that is why my kid will never attend such university.
I don't support that lecturer one bit but students should be careful when they do things
Honestly, the system is too messed up!

What you did was wrong hence I wouldn't blame your project supervisor. The first person you acknowledge after you creator ( if you choose to) is your supervisor. Even if he is too strict or a devil ,you should follow this protocol. To those reading this please do likewise
So because of that error the lecturer was right to have delayed himhuh Not that he deliberately chose to disrespect him o, just an ignorant mistake!

MariaLavina:
By self esteem you mean ego right?

Many Nigerian men have nothing to offer in a relationship aside Money. You want to make a Nigerian man feel worthless, then don't ask him for anything , spend your own money. He either accuse you of cheating, not loving, not being submissive and then breaks up with you for a depending leech. These ladies they can easily control to do their will by restraining financial flows.

Most Nigerian men feel threatened by independent /successful women because they have their own money to spend. You can't tell them what to do you can only admonish. A typical Nigerian Man is a power drunk egoistic fool.
Having a good self esteem is different from being egoistic.

If women can be richer in peace and not see their men as less a man for being poorer, then no problems. But the issue is that many Nigerian ladies would see the man as a weakling and less a man the moment they start earning more money than the man.
The result is usually an unhappy wife who is always angry and bitter at whatever the man does or says.
That time they'll start wishing they were that dependent housewife next door who stays at home gossiping while their husband goes to work.
In fact, some of such ladies would even start cheating on the man with other men whom they consider richer and alpha males.
No man wants to put up with all those drama, hence they kuku go for a fulltime housewife with whom they can manage the much they earn.
It'll continue that way until Nigerian ladies understand that they are not being sent to schools and given high paying jobs only for them to become a liability to a man.
Until that time when they'll not only love to work and earn money for themselves and families, but would not wish otherwise.

Lol, this is funny but true because the more the dumb man force himself to be richer than his wife, the more the cash flow. The woman does little but enjoy more.

But the thing is, no one is pushing the man, it's just his ego playing a fast one on him.
Many Nigerian ladies treat their men with so much scorn and disrespect if he isn't richer than them. That is why men would rather go for ladies who ain't richer so as to preserve their sanity and self esteem.
