Maybe they are yet to realise that the world economy only strives on corruption. That is why the world powers are always soft on financial crimes. If not, the Swiss govt should have shut down companies in possession of Abacha's loot.

Adminisher: That's MAN was not fit for office. I know for a fact that more than half of Nigeria's revenues were stolen before entering the budget. When they budget they steal another one-third and the remaining two-thirds of that budgeted money they keep in banks before TSA came. Yet some minister was reporting fantastic GDP growth figures when we all knew infrastructure and power development did not support that figure. The failure of GEJ was his self acceptance that he was not in government to correct any I'll or change anything. If OBJ was corrupt he would be corrupt, if oil companies were stealing crude oil money , who was he to stop that.
So we had a situation that old warriors like OBJ and Buhari were more radical and change orientated than a 56 year young man. Brother we have never had a leader in Nigeria. You will only be living in self denial thinking worst deals never happened under Obj and Co. If you go back in history then you will find out that the father of corruption was obj. Fela knew all along. There is no need beating back and forth. This issue of uncounted crude oil is not peculiar to Nigeria and it doesn't matter who is in power. Those multinationals will always have their way because they are backed by the world powers. A President with balls at this point will implement a policy that will make this business tycoons to part away with a portion of their wealth they got from reaping off the nation. Putin, Fidel Castro, Gaddafi all comes to mind. We need a dictator with a conscience. Not every four years we run to the polls thinking we have a voice only to vote in pawns. |

sheyguy: Stop supporting half smart people dude. Nigeria's debt is mostly in dollars. It makes sense that once the Naira depreciates against the dollar ( it did by almost 50% ), the equivalent in Naira will increase accordingly. In my view it is wrong to translate the debt value to Naira when it will be paid with dollar. Remember OBJ debt payment, it was in dollar and the press didn't need to translate it to Naira because the money used to offset it didn't come from tax or Naira account. People politicize thing blindly alot. Who said am supporting anybody? The summary of the whole thing is that the past administrations messed up and Buhari is not doing any better. In fact, if care is not taken Buhari will leave bigger mess than he met. A serious government of a country in recession would have taken proactive steps in reducing cost of governance. But, what do we have? Almost #15billion already spent on the presidential fleet in one year. Over #3billion spent on a baseless #changebeginswithme campaign. While the same government is considering selling our gas company; the most profitable federal government asset. It's only a deluded Buhari's supporter that will be hoping for a miraculous turnaround. |

Whynotthetruth: 1)I saw you insulting a guy yesterday while arguing with rozaxy or something like that...about your high IQ...and unfortunately you wrote this...smh
2)Read again and plead with someone to explain to you before you type plzzz...
3)Which exchange rate do we convert our domestic currency to again biko...? Domestic debt is in our local currency bro...so Buhari has almost borrowed Nigeria into the ground in a year...
4)This thread is about Buhari not Jonathan ; your hated scapegoat and whipping bag...Btw Nigeria earned more from oil under Jonathan...who Coincidentally paid MORE salaries than any of his predecessors(19500-NYSC & 18000 for civil servants)...and had MORE empowerment program than any of his predecessors and even immediate successor Buhari... Yes, Buhari has stopped YOUWIN, PRESSID etc which were all active and took lots of fund under Jonathan...Facts on ground as confirmed by APC Fashola(Minister of Works); also showed that Jonathan did almost 5times as much as his predecessors in road construction etc...so why are you convulsing here?
5)If you think Soludo, Utomi etc maybe for political reasons lied in blaming Buhari as the reason why Nigeria is in recession...what about Bloomberg writers and other world economists ? They all agreed that Buhari's wrong and archaic policies forced Nigeria into recession...A fit he achieved in 1984 as well but bigotry has blinded you to the truth...
6)Why didn't reply me on the Anambra thread so that we do a comparative analysis of our respective states? Those who have your kind of men need no poison again ... In addition to the above, many Nigerians are not are aware or ignorant of the fact that from 2007 to 2015, that the Nigerian population actually increased by as much as 30million people. Many European countries don't have a population of 30million people, we have an unproductive population as a result of bad governance. No doubt, the past administrations made a mess from 1960 to till date Which Buhari and Co happens to be part of. I hope the next time Drabeey, sheyguy, AntiWailer, obailala and Co come up with their usual analysis of the last administration's mismanagement of public funds, they should endeavor to factor in the above realities in other to have a more balanced perspective on the Nigerian problem. A single administration should not take the fall. |

davodyguy: so?
This is just semntics by Damola.
The exploration has begun and crude oil is being extracted and exported, with income being generated.
I'm not sure Lagos borders any of the NG states that would make them wants to lay claim to the other part of the water ways, where the oil can be explored.
All waters ways still belong to the FG.
Some people might misinterpret this, as if there was no discovery.
Get it. There was discovery in the water close to Lagos and as of now, Lagos State has be allocated ownership status of 4 oil wells.
Whether the 200 isobath was fraudulently introduced by OBJ or not, Lagos is now controlled by the party at the centre. With Fashola, Tinubu and Ambode, its only a matter of time, before the 2004 pact is reviewed for the benefit of all.
May be this is the only opportunity for that restructuring to take place. This means more money to the oil producing states. However, the negative part of this possible review is that the governors would probably still cheat the indigenes of the states. Even with 2004 pact, Lucky Igbenedon, James Ibori and Peter Odili, still stole billions from their states. Giving more money to their cronies in government now may spell doom for the people. With the FG having the money, you are guaranteed a good spread. What has the federal government done with it's share of the proceed from oil aside from feeding itself and taking care of our fraudulent National Assembly? |

But you can quote me very well on this, 'corruption and looting reached a devilishly disastrous peak during the time of GEJ.' That's the reason why even though he enjoyed the highest uninterrupted oil income boom, he happens to be about one of the only Nigerian leaders who instead of growing our reserves commensurately, he depleted it disastrously. Just for your info, the amount of income Nigeria made within the 5 years of GEJ was well more than the total oil income Nigeria has made under every other president since 1958 till 2016 put together. If only a lot of people who defend this sleaze know the true extent of the destruction, I doubt even his children would want to defend him. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/08/jonathan-nigeria-earned-n51trillion-crude-oil/ You made your point and it's been well noted. Nobody is defending anybody and mind you, this is not the first time the media is coming up with bogus figures. SLS once came up with three different figures. No past leader inherited a working Nigeria if we want to go back to history. Every leader had it's challenge. The call for restructuring is possibly the only way out of this mess. The federal government is the cabal that is strangling everyone of us. The local government should be empowered because more than 90% of Nigerians live in a Local government and as such power should rest there. |

These ones have no clue about the effect of oil price, or probably like many others, they've been told that the drop in oil price isn't a weighty issue but that buhari is the one swallowing forex. It's even particularly sad that even educated folks also say this. And am very sure you're among those that honestly believe corruption started during GEJ's administration. Nigerians have a very short memory and that is why politicians sway us with propaganda. Nigerians have forgotten how corrupt Shagari, IBB, OBJ, Abacha government were, and even the self proclaimed saint Buhari served under Abacha's administration. sledjama: It is not very hard to understand that we need to focus more on exports. This is what grows the economy.
By now, i will expect that Nigeria will have a Cleveland clinic grade hospital in the country where Nigerian doctors in diasporas can come help grow the economy. That way, we can expect massive patronage from around the world. This will quickly put the country on the global map as a place to visit when you need serious healthcare.
How about all those vast land mass you see when travelling to ibadan, what happened to empowering the youth to mechanixed farming? yam, rice, bean, potatoes, etc can be produced in every region of the country. That will help curb the hunger in the land. instead, we are still exploring oil in the north, looking for something with no guarantee of finding it. I beg to differ on the issue of exporting in order to grow our economy. I believe emphasis should be on satisfying the Nigerian market. This will drastically reduce our trade deficit. We shouldn't focus on exporting raw materials that we can't control the price. Else same thing that happened with oil will repeat it self. Ever wondered why OPEC can't control price of oil but, American government can control the price of military hardware? It's all about value. The currency of today's economy is creativity and Innovation. We must focus on adding value to our raw minerals before exporting. We should be exporting chocolate, beverages etc instead of exporting just cocoa and have the West determine the price of our cocoa, oil etc |

This measures will ensure availability of the product and employment for the teeming Nigerian youths. Now, instead of looking for a way to add value by refining our crude the clueless govt is spending same scare resource to look for crude in the north.

GEJ was a failure, he's like a skunk and his stench is still still being perceived all over the nation

How will you restore this nation's economy whose main means of survival is crude oil the price of which is declining in world market and the production has been cut by more than 75% my GEJ's mercenaries?
Oh and rice maize, beans, wheat, sorghum takes at least 4 months and the real cash crops like cocoa, rubber, timber et al takes at least 6 years?
Im sure they will run away from this question Ain't you tired of this same line? I guess you are not aware that the 2016 appropriation act entails less than 40% expected revenue from oil. Now, if that is not the case then the budget is a bigger fraud than we thought. To the issue of militancy, Buhari provoked the region with both his divisive statement and action. Since he had the gut to refer to the region that feeds the nation as 5% it's only fair that the region only contributes 5% to the national confers. Has he bothered to visit the region that lays the golden egg since he was elected? No. He created the problem then he should deal with it. |
