mekussa: E shock you ba? I think they even wrote OSINT instead of the full meaning to confuse some poor desk pusher in charge of appropriations.
A LOT OF THESE OPEN SOURCE INTELLIGENCE SOFTWARE/PROGRAMMES(OSINT) ARE ACTUALLY FREE.
MALTEGO is one of the few available where you have to pay and like you said its ONLY 40K for the server version PLUS TRAINING.
Someone in DIA has made a hit. DIA won't be stup!d to use open source OSINT, but the amount they budgeted is criminally outrageous, to believe a group of over paid comedians called Senators reviewed that budget is Satanic to say the least. |

And only in Nigeria would passengers in vehicle involved in an accident be arrested and prosecuted, they weren't in control of the motor vehicle, only one person was driving that car, and only him is responsible for this, not all 3. They are held as prime witnesses, the court will free them eventually but the driver without license is surely gonna do time for involuntary manslaughter, |

LtRussell: Honestly the "repentant" terries project is one of the dumbest I have come across. Terries ambush, kidnap, kill and maim without batting an eyelid. They stick to their demands and justify their actions.
Terries don't have "repentant" captives or hostages. But for some silly reason, the proponents of the project believe that you can de-radicalize a hardened terry within a year, in an ongoing conflict fuelled by religious ideology.
The solution to this war is simple and straightforward. But the sad reality is that the political ruling class and some elements in the military are not ready and willing to do the needful.
Politics, corruption and nepotism has crippled the war effort.
Respect to every GI in the field, under the scorching sun, wielding that old AK-47 with 3 magazines. Taking orders from high command knowing that you will might not return alive. Leaving your loved one's behind not sure if you will see them again. Going on patrols without adequate comms and mobile protection, on ops without intel. You are dispensable. But your sacrifice remains long after you are gone. We arent doing it because we want to, but global counter terror initiative we are expected to abide by to give COIN a human face, we need their arms & intl support so not doing it has dire consequences, do you really know how Jonathan ended up in an arms embargo, besides', the rule of engagement is clear on a surrendered forced conscripted combatant, not all terrorists qualify for rehabilitation. You must be abducted, forced to fight, willfully surrender, give substantial info against the insurgents before you qualify, they supply most of the info that take out insurgent leaders you hear in the news, their current asset value far out weighs their crime in the past, furthermore such vital information form the skeleton of actionable intelligence in dismantling the sect from inside saving countless lives, sometimes you take a hand shake from the devil to cross a river, Have you heard of the US institute of peace? what do you think they do? Jimi24: The man made a very intelligent, security savvy suggestion about buying up weapon stashes (for cheap) in what was then a government-less country and you did not even think thro it before dropping "secure borders" cliche. What is the special meaning of "secure borders"? . Every government has been trying to secure borders since xxxx BC and every government fails.
If Nigerians would just stop dropping generic buzzwords all over the place and get creative about solutions maybe things would be better. Have you thought of the international consequences of providing funds in exchange for arms to a group of terrorists at a time Libya hadnt a working government? Ghaddafi's arms weren't the only arms threatening the Sahel region at the time, the fall of Mali by the defunct Anzawad republic put more arms in the hands of Fulani militia more than Ghadaffi''s cause of their connection with the Tuareg rebels, besides, Alqaeda in the Islamic Mahreb the father of Boko haram never had problems transferring arms to Boko's sister in East Africa Al-shabab, why will west Africa be a problem with or without Ghadafi's arms? Lets go to the evidence we have seen from battle, how many Ghaddafi arms do you see in OPS Lafiya dole? what I see are Niger, Chadian & Nigerian technical taken from us, should we buy those ones too? to be honest, most Ghaddafi arms were reused in several waves of Libyan conflicts while those that flew out ended up in Mali and other Sahel regions, Nigeria didn't get up to 10% of it, what difference will it make mopping it up in a clandestine operation at the risk of being branded a state sponsor of terror? when you put good money in the hands of terrorists, what do you think they will use it for? buy Candy? they will buy more arms, expand their operations, pay more experts & reign more terror. It sounds smart but its counter productive in the real world, if he said Nigeria & other Sahel countries to put pressure on France and the US to mop up Ghaddafi's arms immediately after the Benghazi incident, that would have more positive impact than going solo, always know that Nigeria doesn't have intl friends because of our foreign policy of neutrality outside the west African bloc. |

ugo4u: One of the mistake Nigerian military and in extension FG did was not buying up the stash of weapons in Post Ghadafi's Libya. The NIA, NSA should have played an active role in this, we would have killed 2 or more birds with one stone i.e getting sophisticated weapons at giveaway prices & to a reasonable extent controlled the illegal proliferation of arms in the west African sub-region, but we let that golden opportunity pass us. The then gov't of the day together with the service Chiefs were more interested in stashing their soakaways and Geepee tanks with hard currencies, the status quo still remains the same. We are always reactive, being proactive is not our thing. Everyone leverages on any opportunity they get to enrich themselves, no sense of Patriotism whatsoever. That money will be better off spent securing our borders, do you know how many arms Ghadafi amassed? |

Mugiwaraluffy: Having special forces operating behind enemy lines is risky, but might work out. If they can blend well with the terrain and supposedly there are no saboteurs that'll give intel to the enemies, this might work. The idea behind this is just gathering Intel and reducing rate of ambush. My theory is that BHT send maybe a 2-3 man to set out these IED before converging to execute an attack. They use several bunkers as sleeper cell hence the reason why they're quick to disperse whenever they're on pursuit. If it's a 2-5 man team planting the IED, the soldiers should be able to take care of them without stress. They'll need to be discreet about it using supressors, NVG (if required especially at night), scope etc. We can also have a dedicated air support on standby 24/7 close to base should in case they'll need help Note: this is just a short term fix pending when we can have eyes in the sky 24/7 Life is not a movie!! |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by jpphilips(m): 2:29pm On Jul 18, 2020 |
Mugiwaraluffy: I have an idea, but it might be wrong so I need your inputs. Recently our troops have faced ambush whenever they're on patrol or coming back from a mission. I think the risk can be reduced by setting out a 5 man cell with a sniper fixed at strategic points along the road. This guys blend in well with the terrain and can get real time info on movement of hostile and also reduce ambush to a considerable amount. This guys are also in charge or getting real time info on movement of BHT hence FOBs would be notified before they come close to town. These guys can be rotated let's say daily. I don't know Borno, but let's say Maid-Damboa is 50km, we can get a cell positioned at strategic locations every 10km or 5km. Since we don't have drone that can loiter 24/7 and even if we do, that'll be loads of info to go through daily, we can use this method. This would require some kits let's say NVG, scope and some basic stuffs like that. We can manage this pending when we can get enough drones and good mraps. NB: sometimes IED still take out MRAPs Done severally, scout team ended up being ambushed themselves, without the troop behind them, its a suicide mission, except when they have the training to operate behind enemy lines, in that case you are requesting a special forces deployment on a road like Maiduguri-Monguno or Maiduguri-Damboa? do you have any idea how long they are? how many men it will take? That's like a WW1 strategy, modern warfare requires eyes in the sky then a quick reaction force to neutralize. Your suggestion will return more body bags. |

Faithful007: what of foreign assistance. I don't think any other country is fighting terrorism alone like we seem to be. Foreign assistance always fulfils a particular interest built on previous military support or treaty, The agreement that got Russia involved in Syria is older than Assad, Iran in Syria dates decades back, US moves with NATO, Saudi Arabia once invited us to join Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, Nigerians don't want to hear Islam or anything that sounds like it so which foreign help are you gonna get? Mercenaries? MNJTF is the best foreign help we can get sadly, its a coalition of countries that are in trouble already. Nigeria is strictly OYO in this war, the earlier we figure out a way forward, the lower our chances of becoming refugees!! |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by jpphilips(m): 4:29pm On Jul 17, 2020 |
Faithful007: The only option for Nigeria to move forward is to employ foreign actors in this war before it turns to something overboard. Though that has some disadvantages, it should reduce the bht and iswap before they reach the stage of the houthi's and the likes PMS's consume over $370b of the US military $780b defense budget, they dont come cheap at all. That money well spent on Nigerian army will produce the same results, dont think PMC's do any magic, they just get all the support they need while regular armies struggle to get good food, did you hear STTEP never left for any mission without the big foot MRAPS? Should all out troops move in big foot MRAPS dont you think the story will be different? not to mention their dedicated Quick response air support, no battalion can dream of what STTEP enjoyed so their output cant be compared. I will understand if we hire PMS's as advisors and strategists then have a war chest to spend to implement them, definitely not as foot soldiers. |

hunter21: This is very hot in my mind and I am going to drop it here.
The problem we have with this war is that we don't have an "army", what we have is a "cult" . In a population of about 230,000,000 people the army is only 250,000 the ratio is too large and because of this there is a disconnect between the military and the populace
Nigeria fought a civil war with 250,000 (possibly more than) troops, what was our population then and what is our population now?
Boko Haram, bandits, 1 million boys, what ever name they give themselves, they are all the same thing, terrorists and the police has no business with them. we need Army national guard and army reserves . We need a land force not less than 750,000 men in active and reserve then we can start talking about secuirity/defence
We can stay here and continue posting endless pictures of war weary soldiers fighting Modern Warfare with 20 rounds per man
Or we can start stoning the hard truth like Lance corporal Martins idanpkin
I swear I don't even want to see 1 more fvcking picture again
are we winning or not? Where will you get the money to service that size of armed forces or you think armed forces are Npower recruits. |

Who lead these troops and how come they couldn't be smarter in how they carry out their operation? The fact that they failed to adapt and neutralize a trouble spot shows poor leadership at the ground level, Buratai isn't gonna tell these soldiers how to invade ambush or how to drive their convoy, space them etc, or use scout, especially since this wasn't the first incident . You can remove Buratai today, and another ambush will happen with similar result. Clueless commanders on the ground is the problem here. Burantai can provide MRAP at least right? |

ugo4u: If I am the President before or upon appointing a service Chief, target(Performace evaluation) will be given to such a person for e.g 1 year if he/she doesn't meet up he will be shown the way out but before then such a person will be made to submit a proposal of what is needed to meet the said target. It's high time the political class apply business model especially wrt appointing service chiefs everyone should be made to justify the amount of money spent on them with commesurate result. For instance, I'll call my service Chiefs in a high powered security meeting, I'll allow them speak their mind and each of them should come up with a proposal to end the insurgency within a given time frame or atleast make significant gain say capturing a Bokoharam stronghold like Lake Chad, or Sambisa and not allowing the terrorists to ever get access to that area again, it will be my responsibility as CinC to mobilize funds or whatever is needed to make such operations run smoothly, I'll expect nothing short of results after a stipulated timeframe otherwise such a service Chief should voluntarily handover his resignation letter. That way I believe the position will not be seen as a mere political appointment and the need to lobby/jostle for the position will be watered down, anyone that aspires to be in that office should know his Onion and be amongst the very best of his peers cos he knows he will be shown the way out if he doesn't pass the performing evaluation after a given time frame. Service Chiefs did just that in 2015, the FG couldn't provide a quarter of what they asked for due to lack of funds, Tucano & MRAP for all SF battalion was part of their demand. It was the government that failed the chiefs not the other way round. |

komekn: Lengthy they may be but far from the facts I disagree.
You have a narrative and you look for the rhetoric to support it, not a substantive deduction but an emotive one.
With regards to the A29 my view is underpinned with the question of " best value and most effective use of scarce resources." $600 million for 12 turboprop aircraft that will take 3 years for the first aircraft to be delivered and 6 years to complete the contract. When we are fighting a existential insurgency is IRRESPONSIBLE at best.
On the contrary you have made completely delusional misguided deductions. You and other claim this aircraft is the best COIN attack aircraft. But that's opinionated balderdash.
But you don't substantiate your position opinion with anything beyond very weak conjecture and assumptive emotive led opinions.
But back to you tell me one item that is UNTRUE and not Factual .
You must appreciate that opinions are not facts but they should be underpinned with some knowledge and or substantive rational. You haven't spoken truth in months so if you wanna see your lies? read your penultimate post, again I have noticed you dont capitulate to superior arguments, it means you are impervious to new learning, when you cant learn, who are you typing a thousand words for? |
