Politics › Re: Currency Redesign: To Extend The Deadline Will Defeat The Aim by JuanDeDios: 9:06am On Jan 29, 2023 |
kingsways: Countries don't just wake up redesign their currency because it involves a significant cost
Whilst reasons for redesign are numerous; in the case of Nigeria, Corruption is pandemic and a big problem. Corrupt and wicked Nigerians have stocked large amounts of cash outside the official financial system
One of aims of the current redesign exercise in Nigeria is obviously to tackle the issue of corruption by corrupt people who settle their corruption activities in cash
To extend the deadline will give these rogues more time to come up with ways to circumvent the redesign and therefore defeat the aim of the exercise. Oh, they've had enough time to circumvent it. One of the reasons the new notes are scarce is because politicians have moped them up for election in connivance with CORRUPT bank officials. Of course, the CBN also didn't print enough. The victims of this are mainly ordinary Nigerians and traders from Awomama to Kaura Namoda. |

He didn't know for a job as sensitive as CBN gov, you have to vet. That's how we roll. I'm surprised that Buhari, who will have to deal with the riots that will ensue, is saying nothing. But, again, it's Buhari. |

faceland: CBN said (on paper) they have given all the notes nd yet some banks would not come to collect the new note (so much so that they imposed aa 1 million naira a day penalty on banks for refusing to collet the new notes)... Those at the top are desperate to sabotage the new policy while those of us that are regular citizens suffer the most. I don't believe the CBN. This is not the first time we've changed money in Nigeria. |

God1000: Maybe politicians are hoarding the new naira notes for vote buying in the forthcoming elections, the reason for the scarcity I believe so. But Emefiele also clearly did not print enough. That's why he's insisting there will be no extension - because he has no notes to supply. Emefiele has to be be most irresponsible human being ever. I hope they're preparing their police to deal with riots though. |
Politics › Re: New Naira Notes: Senate Asks CBN To Extend January 31 Deadline; Emefiele Refuses by JuanDeDios: 2:41pm On Jan 24, 2023 |
Ddokie: If meffy will do one good thing, it should be to ensure that the deadline remains. Even if he is to extend it, it shouldn't be more than a 2 week extension I.e. Feb 14 there about.
Under no circumstance should the present naira notes be available during the General elections.
If anyone thinks the senate is asking for an extension because they love Nigerians, that person must be joking. Their one and only reason for whining is because it will 'cut their ticket' which is vote buying.
Every well meaning Nigerian should support meffy. Take your old naira notes to the bank and lodge it in.
It would be tough to transact initially, but we will adjust in a month or two. Meanwhile vote buying would reduce significantly, which will ensure that BAT and his band of urchins would have been dealt a heavy blow on election day, and sent to the rubbish bin of infamous history. Now I believe Meffy has political motives. You should note that Yahoo boys and partygoers have the new notes. It's market women and ordinary Nigerians who don't have them. If you really think politicians have any problems getting the new notes, you should think again. |

wirinet: What you type there is absolutely rubbish. Are you insinuating that if Tinubu becomes president, he will only allow NTA, TVC and friendly media houses to cover his activates? You mean he will make himself scarce, worthy and priceless to Nigerians?
Tinubu's value arise from the fact that he is seeking for votes to become president. When he was simply Jagaban the king maker, how many media houses went to Bourdillon Road to look for Tinubu?
If you guys accuse TVC of bias, that that's why they were not allowed to cover Tinubu's activities live, what then about other media house? Why can't TVC be covering Tinubus campaigns live and relay to others who are interested in covering his campaign? That's what I don't get. Onanuga, a veteran journalist, is a disgrace coming up with this. These people will do anything once they see food. Shame. |
