Why are you generating wrinkles over this matter..

You can't just sit in you house and completely under-estimate the powers possessed by all Nigerian King(small and big) as long as the state laws recognized them..

You can't with the wave of hand, throw away their powers..

No one is forcing you to obey them but, if can't obey them stay away from them and endeavour to be far away anything they come around.. Even your spirit would be moved at their sight..

I am more stubborn than you on issue of who respect is due..

But kings are HARMLESS and there is this certain INNER peace you feel when you are around one..

No, not necessarily. Men fantaisize about big butts and big breasts, not big hands. You people don't get it at all. In fact, there is a lot of ignorance in this thread.

She's not.

Please what can I do, my husband seems to be addicted to porn and masturbation. He does it at every opportunity he has, even on our matrimonial bed and it's quite disgusting.
There's a 90% chance he was lonely in his teens or even twenties and he got ADDICTED to masturbation. His problem is switching from getting satisfaction from his hands to getting it from a woman. What to do.

1. Let him know in clear terms you don't like it.
2. You may have to consider professional help. Convincing him he has a PROBLEM that needs to be fixed might be your greatest challenge.

come to think of it..the Oba may not even be aware of the action of his over zealous palace chief....the heading of the article makes it sound like the new Oba personally meted out the said punishment on his subjects..

Oga easy,

I am not trying to defend the OBA but it must be clear that Nigeria kings also possess some powers that guide their authority as customary leaders..

You also need to understand that, if the family must sue him, it has to be through the customary court and you can imagine the outcome..

His decree are coded and recognized by Nigeria constitution through the provisions of the customary laws..
Customary court my foot! They are to bring an action for the enforcement of their fundamental human rights and that is done in the high court. And, no, the oba's "decrees" are not laws. You can choose to obey them in recognition of the oba or disobey them.

Romance › Re: Different Ages Of Unmarried Guys And The Way They See Romance. by JuanDeDios: 11:16pm On Oct 22, 2016
Toks2008:
Romantic relationship is a major developmental milestone in our lives. It comes with all the other changes going on in our lives from our adolescent stages to adulthood in relation to physical, social and emotional factors and are linked to growing interest in our body image, looks, independence and responsibilities.

As one who had gone through teenage years to adulthood,I can confidently say I have a clue as to how guys see romance from the teenage years to adulthood and while this may not apply to every guy,it holds true in most cases so I present to you the different ages of guys and the way they see romance.

18 to 23: I call this stage the clueless stage
Guys at this stage don't even know what it means to be in a romantic affair other than the trills of sex and unfortunately guys in this stage are highly irrational emotionally and will not think twice before taking any action.Ladies dating guys in this category should be ready to have their emotions toyed with because nothing good usually comes out of it.

24 to 29: This is the unserious stage.
Guys at this stage tend to be very unserious and can be very indecisive because they are too young for commitment A guy at this stage usually have many ladies clamoring for his attention. Any lady who becomes sexually careless with this set of guys should brace up to be a baby mama because settling down is not in their plan as many of them are still trying to find their bearing.. Most guys who marry at this stage are forced to do that probably after putting a lady in the family way and she proves hard to discard. Ladies looking for a real romance have a slim chance with this set of guys.

30 to 35:This is the decisive stage for guys.
At this stage even if they are still willing to play around, the family will be drumming it into their ears the need to start a family.Any lady regardless of her age who wants to have a purposeful romance have a good chance with this set of guys and any lady who is lucky to be with this set from their 20s may count herself lucky. Many guys in this set are focused and have come to realize that there is more to life than chasing skirts around and the reality of becoming a man will Inadvertently force them to be responsible and while many of them could still have few ladies lurking around them, they would have singled out that special lady that will be his wife.

36 to 40:This is the overdue stage for guys.
At this stage many of their friends are fathers or happily married and every single lady they meet becomes a potential wife as they can't help thinking about settling down...It becomes a shame for this set to mention that "girl friend" word without getting ridiculed and attending family meeting will be a herculean task due to the stigma of being single at that age. If this set of guys woo a lady then she can consider it a marriage proposal. If you know you are not ready to be his wife please tell him quickly because this set of guys really need a wife.

41 to 49:This is the desperate stage.
Most guys who are single at this stage better have a good reason to be else the world will see them as strange. For this set it is very easy for any serious lady to have them because most of the guys in this set are very vulnerable and do not have that strong push to woo ladies about but will be glad to have any serious minded lady to come into his life. Many guys in this set are either widowers, divorcees except few who have other reasons. If any single guy in this category woos you just answer by saying "I do" because the next thing is marriage.

50 and above:
I honestly don't know what to write here but it is believed in Nigeria that if you are still single at this age and you are neither a divorcee,a priest or a widower then you are on your own.

I will stop here.
Hilarious!

Africa should get rid of all these things..where was our so called tradition when the white man took us all as slaves.. These things help set us back many thousand years..that is why most of our big strides in development came when we where under our colonial masters.

We keep dwelling on tradition that adds no tangible meaning or advancement to our society at large.

modified

All of you mentioning me have refused to tell me how most of our traditions have added value to our society.

I dont know of any Oba where i live till they need 7 heads to bury him.. Is this the type of traditions we should hold onto?

Or traditions where we marry out 12 year olds and deny them the right to basic education ?? I can go on and on....
You're right. It's okay to preserve culture but culture that adds nothing should be subtracted.

GurlFriend:
Yesterday, Oba Ewuare ll N'Ogidigan ascended the revered throne of his ancestors to become the 40th Oba of Benin, succeeding his late father, Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolopkolo, Oba Erediauwa.

The photo below of the newly coronated Oba puzzled many people.

Why was the Oba covering his mouth? It was obviously a cultural act but what was the significance? Even his wives covered their mouths.

I did some investigation and found out the following:

The Oba usually covers his mouth because when he talks he is the supreme authority. Whatever he says is final.

People talk on his behalf most of the time and whatever they proclaim becomes the Law with immediate effect.

A friend of mine who is a painter said he did a painting of the old Oba and it was rejected because it depicted him smiling. According to tradition, people are not supposed to see the Oba's teeth so he doesn't smile.

His wives covered their mouths as a sign of submission.

Don't you just love our culture? So rich and varied!

If I have any fact wrong, please clarify.

Oba atokpei, iseeeeeee!!! cheesy

Please explain what's lovable and rich about covering your mouth to smile.

Currently, I am trying out the "calm" approach. People have been complaining of my unavailability. A friend had to personally ask that I slow down. In the end, why rush so fast and put yourself under so much pressure and lose the people you care about? So, calm and collected it is for me these days.

I am honestly trying to get myself to read literary fiction. I have even read a couple of Nigerian literally fiction, but nothing compares to the thrill of genre fiction. Honestly. But, I will challenge myself to try harder. Any suggestions?1

I am very intrigued by the job that involves reading from morning to evening. I already do that and not get paid!!!
Facebook ranting is normal. I have a badass Facebook ranting clique. Though I prefer to read and laugh and comment and occasionally be aggressive.

Again, what do you do? Maybe I can PM you yeah?2 I have said more than I should publicly. My inner introvert is cringing. Lolz.
1. Absolutely!
a. Fyodor Dostoyevsky
b. Leo Tolstoy
c. Isabelle Ayende

I also like Umbeco Eco, VS Napaul, Adichie and Sefi Attah.

I can email you digital versions of the classics I mentioned, if you want.

2. Do that already. I was going to ask your permission to do it.

I agree about the thrill of genre fiction. I couldn't get enough of James Hadley Chase, Frederick Forsyth, etc, when I was in my teens and even twenties. In my 30's, it's hard to find the time and when I do I have to spend it on literary fic and the visual arts.

It's impressive that you already recognise the possible danger of being hyper always. The key is not changing who you are; it's recognising what things are really important and striking a balance.

I'm into copyediting. That's how I get paid to read. Nigerians don't pay you to read, so it's Oyinbo clients all the way. smiley

I don't tribe play the tribe card. I am only encouraging people out there to see above hate and tribalism.

Enjoy your Friday.
It's good to encourage people. But you should encourage young people as young people and young Nigerians as young Nigerians. When you go out of your way to single out Igbos for praise, you're giving vent to the tribalism latent inside of you without knowing it. You're better than those Yorubas who abuse Igbos all day and those Igbos who abuse Yorubas all day on this forum because you're making an effort to get out of tribalism. What I'm saying is, singling out Igbos for praise or being extra-nice to Igbos depicts your inate ethnic consciousness. The final stage is when a topic like this is brought up and the first you see is innovation and not tribe, when you people instead of their tribe. This is the stage you should now work towards. Maybe you still don't get it, but I have tried.

Enjoy your day too.

Igbos are the business heart of Nigeria and Africa at large.

No one is boasting here.
I got your post right and I said stop seeing tribe instead of innovation. Whenever a thread in opened in NL, the first thing you see is someone of your ilk mentioning ethnicity. Don't you people get tired?

As for not boasting, there is something you're missing. If you know anything about psychology you will realise that you picked up your "China of Africa" from someone who was boasting, someone who thinks tribe tribe like you do. You sound matured, so I believe you get the message, if not now, later.

The secret is this: I have this app that tells me my exact age down to the nanosecond. I will attach a pic of my current age to this post. Anytime I open this app and see time literally trickle down before my eyes, I sit up. That app makes my mortality real.

I read fiction!!! I don't read nonfiction. I can't fathom the thought that these things could be real. I'd rather it be imaginary.

BTW, Quora needs you!!
That's some app. I think that is one good approach. Although I think the approach of taking things calmly also works - you'd be surprised what some calm ("easygoing"wink folks achieve at the end of the day!

When you said you read motivational and young adult books and co, I thought you meant non-fic. Since you mentioned Harry Potter, I should guess you prefer genre fiction to literary fiction. Or perhaps you read both? Any favourite authors?

I hope to find time to participate more in quora. Maybe in the coming year. For now, I limit myself to Facebook ranting. My job involves reading from morning till evening anyway, so when I want to "take it easy" I tend to stay with the radio, take a walk, go over to chat with boys, or get into the kitchen to cook up something.

As per quora, quora folks can get too real and serious even for non fiction. You need to see what they have concocted out of the simple Harry Potter by JK Rowling.

And motivational messages are just basically to charge you up for that moment, their effects don't really last that long. Plus, I have found a way to be constantly revved up, nothing to do with motivational books at all.
Want to share the secret? smiley

Interesting what you said about Quora. I noticed the seriousness too although I wish I had more time to participate.

So you don't read much fiction - literary or bestsellers?
