APContherun:We both seem to know the meaning of the word, so I guess a definition of it is not really what you're after. I understand that some people will not agree that Mr Jonathan is incompetent either because the toxins Nigeria puts into people's mind prevent them from having a genuine idea of how governance is done or because they genuinely like Jonathan and believe that his achievements outweigh his failures. In any case, I can give you a long list itemising, by way of restating, the particulars of manifest incompetence against the Jonathan administration, but I'm not up to the task right now. Besides, there is hardly anything that hasn't been said. |
Rexphobia:That is the question. And that is what makes me sad. In March 2015 Nigerians will be asked to choose between a continuation of the incompetent and monumentally corrupt administration of Goodluck Jonathan and either the notoriously corrupt, business-as-usual Abubakar Atiku or the 70-something year old retired ethnocentrist Muhammadu Buhari whose only mission in politics is to right the "wrong" done to him August 27 1985. Sad. |
Whether our government is lying or has had its legitimate arms deals blocked unfairly by South Africa is beside the point as far as these threats go. It is extremely foolish for our government to issue this threat and I regret being ruled by these kinds of people who can't even think properly. The issue of MTN and other PRIVATE South African businesses is purely unrelated to this and by threatening them this government is behaving like children - it's the sort of thing that makes Putin a fellow you can't really take seriously. It will hurt our long term economic interests because investors will be wary of investing in Nigeria. If you read reports detailing responses to our current drive to get an auto industry to seriously take off, you will notice that the auto giants consistently cite fear of government policy as a major issue. We are fueling that sort of mindset by this latest tomfoolery. Shame! |
First hint of 'life after death' in biggest ever scientific study Southampton University scientists have found evidence that awareness can continue for at least several minutes after clinical death which was previously thought impossible By Sarah Knapton, Science Correspondent Death is a depressingly inevitable consequence of life, but now scientists believe they may have found some light at the end of the tunnel. The largest ever medical study into near-death and out-of-body experiences has discovered that some awareness may continue even after the brain has shut down completely. It is a controversial subject which has, until recently, been treated with widespread scepticism. But scientists at the University of Southampton have spent four years examining more than 2,000 people who suffered cardiac arrests at 15 hospitals in the UK, US and Austria. And they found that nearly 40 per cent of people who survived described some kind of ‘awareness’ during the time when they were clinically dead before their hearts were restarted. One man even recalled leaving his body entirely and watching his resuscitation from the corner of the room. Despite being unconscious and ‘dead’ for three minutes, the 57-year-old social worker from Southampton, recounted the actions of the nursing staff in detail and described the sound of the machines. “We know the brain can’t function when the heart has stopped beating,” said Dr Sam Parnia, a former research fellow at Southampton University, now at the State University of New York, who led the study. “But in this case, conscious awareness appears to have continued for up to three minutes into the period when the heart wasn’t beating, even though the brain typically shuts down within 20-30 seconds after the heart has stopped. “The man described everything that had happened in the room, but importantly, he heard two bleeps from a machine that makes a noise at three minute intervals. So we could time how long the experienced lasted for. “He seemed very credible and everything that he said had happened to him had actually happened.” Of 2060 cardiac arrest patients studied, 330 survived and 140 said they had experienced some kind of awareness while being resuscitated. Although many could not recall specific details, some themes emerged. One in five said they had felt an unusual sense of peacefulness while nearly one third said time had slowed down or speeded up. Some recalled seeing a bright light; a golden flash or the Sun shining. Others recounted feelings of fear or drowning or being dragged through deep water. 13 per cent said they had felt separated from their bodies and the same number said their sensed had been heightened. Dr Parnia believes many more people may have experiences when they are close to death but drugs or sedatives used in the process of rescuitation may stop them remembering. “Estimates have suggested that millions of people have had vivid experiences in relation to death but the scientific evidence has been ambiguous at best. “Many people have assumed that these were hallucinations or illusions but they do seem to corresponded to actual events. “And a higher proportion of people may have vivid death experiences, but do not recall them due to the effects of brain injury or sedative drugs on memory circuits. “These experiences warrant further investigation. “ Dr David Wilde, a research psychologist and Nottingham Trent University, is currently compiling data on out-of-body experiences in an attempt to discover a pattern which links each episode. He hopes the latest research will encourage new studies into the controversial topic. “Most studies look retrospectively, 10 or 20 years ago, but the researchers went out looking for examples and used a really large sample size, so this gives the work a lot of validity. “There is some very good evidence here that these experiences are actually happening after people have medically died. “We just don’t know what is going on. We are still very much in the dark about what happens when you die and hopefully this study will help shine a scientific lens onto that.” The study was published in the journal Resuscitation. Dr Jerry Nolan, Editor-in-Chief at Resuscitation said: “Dr Parnia and his colleagues are to be congratulated on the completion of a fascinating study that will open the door to more extensive research into what happens when we die.” Source: The Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/11144442/First-hint-of-life-after-death-in-biggest-ever-scientific-study.html

dridowu:I did share my own view. It's on page 6 - just a few posts above your comment. |
Tbliss12:It's the simple laws of economics. The government needs to encourage doctors to go to the rural area where people don't have access to health care. No matter how you may want to spin it, there isn't a similar need for a large number of engineering graduates. If you find telecom engineers setting up masts in the rural areas they are employees of private companies and they are well paid. Another factor is their years of study - engineers, 5 years; lawyers 6 years; doctors 7 years. But maybe the difference between what medical graduates and others earn is too much but you can take it up with the authorities. |
dridowu:I don't buy the OP's position but your rants don't make sense. So only doctors get to study hard and spend their own money and do night calls? |
QMark:It certainly does look like some deal has been done. |
MilitaryMinded:Good question. If this report is true, the NSA and the diplomats concerned need to answer serious questions. |
DivideUs:Lol. Whichever way you look at it, mistakes were made. Even if the deal was legitimate it is clear that certain people who ought to be in the know were not. The Southies may not have been fair to us by not giving us the benefit of doubt and treating it more as a diplomatic issue than a law enforcement issue as they did, but all that would have been avoided if the ONSA had liaised properly with its counterpart over there. Sometimes having documents is not enoughh |
So they let men and women intermingle there? Interesting. |
Raiders:Seconded. Nigeria a shit hole because there is no punishment for wrongdoing. |
oderemo:You dey mind some pipul? |
koboko69: omenka:I feel you guys. But however you look at it, they're still Nigerians - the president himself has repeatedly said so. Sad they've turned themselves into enemies of God and humanity. |
Adminisher:Here is our country at the risk of losing money from SALES of gas and people are jubilating because of some imaginary competition with Ghana! I recall how billions were spent when that pipeline was being built, with our government forking out most of the money when some of the other West African countries could not come up with funds on time and some dumb folks were complaining in their usual knee-jerk failure to see the benefit of that gas pipeline to our economy and our environment. I don't know what is wrong with many young Nigerians - must be the education system. |
DEGREE2466:Wetin consign me? I always politely ask anyone disturbing my peace with the loudness of his or her prayers to tone it down. Let the person attempt tag me and I will stop being polite and tell him exactly what I think of him, and then inundate him with the Bible verses he's going against by being inconsiderate. Nansense. |
Elantracey:Ha what kind of kweshun is this? He doesn't need to naa. Shebi you have not met all men but you have some general opinions about men which you know don't apply to all men. |
I love bikes. I can kill for that Kawasaki Ninja. |
A blind school principal in Port Harcourt just boasted on TV that he has never had problems approaching women or getting them to date him. He says all it takes is: 1. Sweet mouth 2. Some money 3. Plenty of lies Lol. Do you agree with him? |
texanomaly:Thank you. |
texanomaly:How about lines/syllables? I often wonder if counting your syllables and matching one line with another is important. |
poseidon12:Been saying it. Make military service compulsory for male members of the scheme and voluntary for the females. |
SAVEDBABA:I don't think any such thing. I know it. A soldier can't tell a civilian to lie down or arrest a civilian in the US or any country that functions properly that is not under some state of emergency. But since Nigeria has been a dysfunctional state for a long time I can sympathise wIth people like you who don't understand civil-military relations. |
Princecalm:Yeah. In a dysfunctional state like Nigeria. |
Sincere9gerian:If what ugo4u write is true I'm surprised that a whole Nigerian Army would descend into the arena and refuse to defend Nigerians to "teach them a lesson". That's treasonable! For God's sakes, there's a war going on and these Boko demons could have used anything to cow those poor villagers into submission! If they were as chummy with Boko Haram as you say, why did they wipe out the community? And you people are here praising this. Anyway, I hope it's not true. I also hope they take ugo4u's "enough weapons to flatten Lagos" elsewhere all over Borno State. |
Just read about the military's denial of the story. Well, I hope the military is right. |
olapluto:This is deeply saddening. May Chimda Hedima find happiness in eternity. |
Raiders:A taya o! When did Siasia become a coach? |
omicron: HowRight. This list belongs to the Instagram generation. |
This is classical Cristina de Kirchner. That wily old lady has been using Argentines' heads since forever. Since hurriedly divorcing her husband so she can meet a constitutional requirement for the presidency and winning the elections, she has never got a grip on the economy. Yet, whenever she smells dissent brewing she quickly looks for a scapegoat. Last time she took on the British, flogging the dead horse of the Falklands. Now, it's the Americans trying to kill her! Anyway, I'm sure like most countries Argentina has enough conspiracy theorists and gullible folks to sustain this new bogeyman. Well done ma'am. |
adioolayi: There are courses...I will pick Pastore and Range managementWe have this in Nigeria? Which school(s) please? |
omenka: Shekau is dead, we have no doubts about that. What we would like to know is when Boko Haram sponsors are gonna be exposed and brought to justiceThank you. |
