Politics › Re: Nairaland Poll On February Presidential Election Between Jonathan And Buhari by JuanDeDios: 7:57am On Jan 31, 2015
saintandsinnerz:
Nigerians and their poor sense of history! Do you folks here shouting sai buhari really believe elections are won in Nigeria based on some opinion polls and online popularity of candidates? If you believe so, then I'm sorry for you because you have failed to understand how elections are conducted here. In 2007, Nigerians were really tired of PDP govt. Led by obasanjo because of massive corruption and plundering of our national treasures. People were ready and determined (just as now to vote out pdp) But what happened after the election? The same "evil" pdp won the election. Do you know why? It is just because it is difficult to oust an incumbent govt that virtually controls all the state resources and institutions of power. With massive resources at their care, it becomes almost impossible to defeat them. One of the reasons it is difficult to beat an incumbent in Nigeria is because of the electoral law. The Nigeria electoral law is a sham. It was purposely drafted to perpetuate the ruling party in power. And until the provisions that make the sitting president to contest while still in power is expunged, elections in Nigeria (especially at the presidential level) will remain a mere formality. The party in power will always win it! Don't be deceived with the noise you are hearing among the opposition parties, they will not win the election. They will as usual ask you to defend your vote after voting, but how will you defend the votes in your area which is probably in an urban setting, what of the millions of votes in those remote areas where poverty is the second name of the inhabitants? That is where the real action takes place. In those places, people sell their votes for as low as 200 to 500 naira as the case maybe. Now this is where the manipulations take place. Some opposition party agents even partake in these manipulations because they have been settled "handsomely by the ruling party who always has an endless resources to perpetuate this subversion. So to all of you who are having wet dreams about a mere opinion poll or online popularity of some candidates, I say to you, "you are building your castles in the air. If you believe that PDP will handover power to APC or any other opposition party come may 29, 2015, then you can believe anything!
So what's your point? That everyone should not say they will vote for the opposition or bother voting for them because the incumbent will win already?

Can't they allow them to stay on humanitarian and compassionate ground huh.......l thought there was a provision in the asylum law that allows such to scale through if an asylum seeker is refused....
What is "humanitarian" here? Nigerians better start getting used to the mess they've made of their country and stop running to other people's countries. Besides citing Boko Haram and kidnapping doesn't wash. These people think oyinbos are babies.

“The Lord took me in the spirit to the seat of power in Aso Rock and showed me a bold inscription on the Presidential seat with a heavenly seal on it ‘No vacancy here’. Thus said the Lord to President Jonathan: “I appointed you for another period of five years to lead Nigeria to greatness”. Within these five years which symbolizes grace, no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper.”
@bolded
So Jona will get another five years. Interesting.

Thanks for putting that alarmist in her place. The likes of OBY have done more damage to Nigeria in the fight against terrorism than boko haram.
This makes no sense. I agree Olukolade didn't intend to insult her with his first response but raising the alarm once you have information that Nigerians are being murdered is not alarmist. It's the right thing to do.

Trust me this article is just as dümb and untrue.

akinsadeez:
The man might not necessarily be poor. There are some lawyers who have money but all in a bid to show that they are elders at the bar and have spent many years as lawyers wear old wigs and faded gowns to court despite being rich enough to buy replacements. Many old lawyers hate wearing new wigs. Some judges also equate shiny new wigs to mean the lawyer has recently or just been called to the bar. In fact in legal parlance new lawyers are actually known by the term 'new wigs'. Maybe the man is one of those who love to show their seniority by any means possible.
They should do away with the damn thing already.

SW RONU
It's about the SW now, not FG handing railways to LGs. Keep counselling them, you hear? In fact, you are too much.

Well you are not worth a fight

Aurevoir

cool
Well, it was great watching you twist and twerk on your own - as you rapidly morphed from FG should leave the railways for LGs and others to LGs should build trams to FG should build railways while LGs and others compliment [sic]. It recalls your transition from production to development and then offering lectures on the difference - when I hadn't mounted any argument against your funny ideas.

Anyway, some free tips: stop seeing the world in terms of us (Igbo) and them (Yoruba); whenever you get a brain wave, stop and consider its practicability before presenting it to the world; stop taking yourself too seriously - everything isn't a fight and it's okay to admit the error in one's argument sometimes.

As I said you are an OLODO

Development is not production

Development = Design Fabrication and Testing

Concerning Rail service

If your amala brain could comprehend

You will know that since LGAs can build roads they can also be encouraged to build light rails for light trains= tram

Please watch the documentary

The men who built America

It will expose you to rich guys like Vanderbilt who built thousands of km of railways

So as FG is building , States LGAS and Private Sector will be complimenting

Finally

Keep your amala one side and learn again cool
Lol. Didn't I say your ideas were interesting? But you're getting excited and doing insults because you think it makes you smart. See, someone even liked your yeye post. They think your tiny-minded ethnocentrism is quaint and that your ideas of using universities to produce, no, develop weapons and asking FG to quit railways for others like LGs, no FG building while the others compliment [sic] are sparks of genius.

Olodo

Weapons development is different from Weapons production

Amala brain

Watch the documentary

The men who built America

You will realise that most railways were built by rich Americans

So nothing is wrong if LGAs build light rails to connect each community

Finally

Be open minded and learn new things

Life goes beyond Amala cool
Lol. Involve universities in arms production, no, devlopment; FG should leave railways for others like LGs. You're a hoot, I swear!

Instead of you to ask the National Assembly to make laws that put the development of Railways in the hands of FG LGAs and Private Sector, your myopic mind keeps expecting change from an all powerful FG
Lol. This guy, ehn! So after flying the kite of universities abi higher institutions should be producing arms you now want LGs to go into railways. Interesting.

my life is just in a big mess right now and I just can't find a reason to continue living. After my Nysc , life was so miserable for me due to my jobless state. Out of the love my parents have for me , they sacrificed all their life savings to help me start a business, they believed so much in me that was why they sacrificed all their savings despite the fact that I still have sibbling who also need money. They were hoping that I will be successful in the business and so help my younger ones. I just can't believe that am bankrupt in just 6 months of starting my business. since I started my business it has always been from one misfortune to the other. finally i got duped by some fraudsters who I believe used some charms on me to collect everything I have , they made me sell my shop and all my few properties. Before I could come back to my senses, they were no were to be found. I deeply depressed , right now, am homeless but the worst part is that my family is not, aware of this situation. They still think am doing fine in business and I just can't face them when I go home this Xmas. I have been thinking of a way out of this situation but still, I can't come up with anything, I have offered my kidney for sale butup till now no buyer has indicated his /her interest. Right now am in serious debt and my debtors are just on my neck everyday..The shame is just too much for me to bear. I have already made up my mind to commit suicide if I don't get a buyer for my kidney before the 27th of December. I just pray my parents will find a place in dia heart to forgive me.
I'm sorry. I really am.

I too have considered suicide - long story. You have to face up to it. Tell your parents - they are your parents and they will let it go. Then think deeply about how to start again. I suggest learning a skill/trade and taking it from there.

chukwudi44:
On three previous occasions 2003,2007 and 2011 Buhari contested for the presidency of these country and was rejected by the southern electorates including our SW brothers. Most noteworthy was the number of votes he got in 2003 in the sw when he contested against obasanjo. My question now is why did the sw people reject Buhari in 2003 when the had the very opportunity of 'ending' corruption in 2003?If they know Buhari had all the qualities they now ascribe to him why then did they reject him for a corruption personified obasanjo?
Buhari is not particularly "electable" - given a choice. I blame the APC for fielding him. But since the outcome of the continuation of Jonathan can be foreseen and it is not good, many have decided to vote Buhari in the hope he can at least halt the wastefulness and unbridled looting going on.

It is an evidence of the freedom of speech we enjoy under GEJ

Do some research on what Buhari did to those who criticised his Government when he was head of state

Don't think the freedom we enjoy is by default because we have democracy. Its not. There is democracy in Russia and Zimbabwe but if you insult the Presidents of this country you will surely hear from someone

I think we are taking our freedom for granted.
Scare mongering, I'm afraid. Jonathan is not the guarantor of Nigerians' freedom!

Russia has a culture of Tsar worship. Zimbabwe has never had freedom - from Ian Smith to Mugabe. Nigeria, on the other hand, has had a culture of free speech since independence. Even before independence we always had a vocal press. We even had more freedom of speech under Abacha than they have in Russia and Zimbabwe. The Buhari era was just an interregnum which he dare not and cannot repeat under democracy. Besides, times have changed.
