kunlewoye: @Justwise, sorry you did not understand my previous post. If u pay 3000 to the school for accomodation, the maximum UKBA will deduct from the money you wld need to show for maintenance is 1000 Pounds, not 3000, and dats even IF you choose school accommodation o. If you choose to arrange your accomodation privately then they will deduct NOTHING from your 9k or 7200 maintenance that you need to show regardless of how much u paid

Where did you read the part i highlighted about the private landlords?

kunlewoye: @jUSTWISE, SORRY i FAILED TO REFERENCE...HERE IT IS

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/pbs/Tier4migrantguidance.pdf

tier4 guidance from ukba

page 37 article 163

If the Tier 4 (General) student can show that he/she has already paid all or some of his/
her accommodation fees to his/her Tier 4 sponsor before making his/her application, this
amount will also be taken away from the total amount of money he/she will need to show for
living costs up. The amount taken away cannot exceed a maximum of £1,000, even if the
student has paid more than £1,000 in advance for accommodation.
For example, a Tier 4 (General) Student is studying inside Inner London, is on a course of
more than 12 months, has paid their course fees in full and has an established presence.
The amount of maintenance they would need to show would be £2,000 (£1,000 for 2
months), however, as they have already paid £1,000 to their University as a contribution
towards their accommodation, the amount they need to show is reduced to £1,000:
Amount of Maintenance - £2,000
Amount paid to Sponsor for accommodation - £1,000
Total maintenance they are required to show - £1,000.
This only applies if the Tier 4 (General) student will be staying in university or college
arranged accommodation.
Yes i have seen this but there was no where private rented accommodation issue was mentioned.

The person that posted that video has a different version of the story. He appeared to be a victim of some Nigerian/Thai gangs operating in Thailand. Watch the video and the comments made by the owner in his or her channel in youtube.

So sad though.

Travel › Re: What Motivates Diasporans To Relocate Back To Nigeria? by justwise(mod): 3:26pm On Jun 16, 2012
bobbyjabo: You are missing some points here! let me explain it to you..relocating from Village to City, you are still in the same country where you have equal RIGHT with the rest of the people in the city you relocate to. You can never have the same right with these white people coz its not your country and if you eventually become a citizen of that country theres still gonna be some kind of discrimination against you because of your skin colour and you will always be second citizen FACT!

And the point of this topic is ''What Motivates Diasporans To Relocate Back To Nigeria'' and part of the answer in my own opinion is EXPOSURE coz you are more expose to alot of things your mates back home are not expose to (thats if you have brain anywayz) no offense tho, just saying. let me give you a couple of Examples...

(1) James Ibori(Ex Governor of Delta State)...he took that bold step and relocate back to NIgeria coz he feels his brainy and expose enough to maneuver his way to riches in Nigeria which he couldnt do while he was living in UK and guess what eventually he did but overdo it(greediness) which landed him where he is today

(2) Michael Sata(President of Zambia)...He was a railway sweeper in london,he took that bold step and relocate back to his country and becomes the president of his fatherland

Bottomline is if you got brain and exposed, theres a better chance of you making it big in your fatherland than washing pots and sweeping the street in oversea SIMPLE.
Ok now i understand what some of you called 'making it in Nigeria' so a criminal (James Ibori) who has criminal record in the UK, not just one but two criminal records is somebody you are using as an example? Him and his wife were convicted for stealing in a supper market in the UK, Ibori was convicted for credit card fraud and he ran back to Nigeria to continue his crime career.

Where is he now? Are you not embarrassed that this is the kind of people you look up to?

bobbyjabo: Yea you right..I guess you have a pretty good job you doing wherever in oversea you are...speak for yourself brof, but you know there alot of people in oversea that wake up at 6.00am in that cold weather to go and wash toilet or resume in kitchen or carer house.Would you say there lifes is better of if they were in Nigeria?
You really need to get a grip, how many people in Nigeria are holding their dream jobs? People selling pure-water and recharge cards in dangerous traffic in many cities in Nigeria are doing it to survive just as those Nigerians abroad 'washing plate and doing care jobs'

What is wrong with leaving the house at 6am if that is what your work requires? UK/US have cold weather just as Nigeria is boiling hot in certain time of the year.

bobbyjabo: This comment makes alot of sense.the only Achievement majority of Nigerians in diaspora can boast of is EXPOSURE...in my opinion, only the wise ones makes that bold step to relocate back home.
This is a narrow minded view, not everybody that relocated were happy with the move, some went back to the west after some times.

Many Nigerians have made other countries their 'home' and still visit Nigeria to invest and for other reasons, refusing to move permanently does not make them unwise, rather does it mean that they are unpatriotic.

Nigeria is my home by default, that does not mean that i will live and die there, wherever i found myself and happy is where i call 'home'.

drzed: In my opinion, many of the responses here are missing the point.

Many of us in Nigeria grew up and live in cities today because our parents (father/mother) took the bold step to seek greener pastures away from the villages and towns where they were born in the 30s 40s and 50s. Why didnt they stay in the village and 'make it' there? And why would'nt YOU return to your village today? Its all about opportunities. The same reason why people leave Nigeria and relocate abroad: OPPORTUNITIES.

Now, a lot of our parents tend to relocate back to the villages and towns in their older years, not because they were pursued from the city but because it was 'time' to go back home . Some simply retired due to old age. Others went into some farming or related businesses suited to the quiet life of villages.

As for those of us still young, if our villages of today were to suddenly provide better infrastructure (power, water, communications) as well as improved security and business climate, many of us city dwellers would not mind going back. Not because we were pursued from P/Harcourt, Lagos or Abuja.

So, it is not always a matter of being tired of dish washing or taking cr-ap from oyibo people. Most Nigerians I know abroad are well-educated and holding decent jobs. A survey some months ago showed that Nigerians are the most educated ethnic immigrant group in the whole of the US, with the highest ratio of Masters/PhD degrees. Read more: http://www.bet.com/news/national/2012/03/20/survey-nigerians-most-educated-in-the-u-s.html. Majority of these Nigerians are certainly NOT washing dishes or driving taxis. They are in highly skilled jobs, with above average salaries.

Regardless of where it is, people will move to find opportunities. That is why inspite of our insecurity, lack of power and corruption, a lot of expatriates STILL come to Nigeria. When they decide to leave, as some will inevitably do, it will NOT be because we deported them or because they were tired of 'washing our toilets'. It will because they have decided to move.

It is all about opportunities. If you can find such 'opporchos' in your fatherland, all the better.

dappyboy: Hi everyone, please i need your urgent advice and suggestion, am a Serving Captain in the Nigerian Army, and a breadwinner in a family of 5, my immediate younger brother who has been a graduate for yrs but has got no job in Nigeria came to me sometimes last yr and told me he wants to travel out of Nigeria, i did try to persuade him not to as i know the grass is not green on the other side, He convinced me by saying due to the nature of my job if anything happens to me, then the family has no hope and i tell you that same day i was posted to special taskforce maiduguri for Boko Haram issues; and for real i thought about how life would be for them if i die and what would be the fate of my parents.
Well to the main issue he was able to secure a 6months tourist visa through one agent who assured him when he gets to the UK he would be able to change his status, this i never believed due to the nature of my profession but my brother was desperate and i just had to let him go, he left on september 7, 2011, on getting there he saw things were not easy the agent told him to pay about 8k pounds but when i saw the process he outlined i told him that would not work, mind you my bro said he was just going to spend 2weeks, i told him to come back but he told me he would struggle to survive since he has got no hope whatsoever in Nigeria. His visa expired in February 2012.
I was posted back to warri recently, and through a man i met i was able to secure a job for him in absentia, which is going to pay him well and they even said he would go for training in the UK b4 the end of this year, now he is an overstayer already cuz he has overstayed for about 4months, this would affect his chances of going back for training if he comes back home as an overstayer, He doesnt know what to do now he said he could get a travel certificate to come back! and that he could hide his passport and stamp it to the date he was meant to return when he gets to Nigeria Is that possible?.... JUST WISE,VIC JUSTICE AND ALL please am confused about the whole thing, how can he help the situationhuh?? What is it like when you are leaving heathrow, do they check your visa and how long you have stayed?
Your brother will only be banned for one yr from entry the UK if he goes back voluntarily, there is nothing to be afraid of at Heathrow airport.

redsun: The need to be real and authentic makes one genuinely wants to establish in his or her father,s land. The need to be a contributor, instead of a boy forever.

African children born and bred in the west are lost to the west, which invariably means the end of an african line for the one that decide to lick oyinbo yansh forever for the simple fact that they have a society where the basic amenities functions.

This in turn leads to the gradual dwindling of a culture and subsequent demise of a people that cannot function rationally on their own.
You are obviously got no clue what you are talking about.

How does coming back to Nigeria makes one genuine and authentic? Your views are still some 70yrs behind.

nakedall: The reasonable one will come back home, b/c they have houses and properties at home, at the senior age live in naija, collect the white-pension and enjoy good life rather than senior home in Yankee. but idiots that wasted their life buying property in Yankee will find it difficult to come back since they have nothing at home, they always say naija no good. you know what, most of them will still lost the property they own to foreclosure or property tax at old age.

In London, one can always find them at pool house.
There is no need for insult here. Is not your business if somebody chooses to live and die abroad.

You don't need to show any other money apart from the £7200 and your remaining fees.

I have a conditional offer (IELTS & £3,000 minimum deposit) from RGU. I have my minimum deposit with me & will be writing the IELTS month's end. Apart from the £7,200 for maintenance, do I need to show BHC any money for airfares?
How about the remaining school fees? £3000 is just the deposit.

esere826: Yes Justwise, UK is shooting itself on the foot. But I'm happy for Nigerian students that are seeking to relocate to Canada presently. I hear its much easier to get your papers there. I mean in UK, the system seems to be designed to suck imigrants dry and spit them out when there's only bones left. I'm even thinking of doing my PhD in Canada. Keep up the good job
I have my fear though, i really hope that Nigerians and other foreign students will not start abusing the Canadian 'generous' system, you remember 6-8 yrs ago UK used to be a soft-touch for student visa, maintenance money not required, fee upfront not needed, you will be given 3yrs for visa extension and allowed to stay back and work after graduation, all that is gone now because of the abuse of the system.
