philipin7: vicjustice in case you are not aware
New immigration rule for spouse visa states that a sponsor of a spouse must have a minimum of 18,600pounds as gross annual income My husbands annual income is 15,600 so we dont qualify. Thats why we are applying for 6 months. He has just 6,000pounds available for a 6 months visa That law got nothing to do with family visiting visa, only when you are moving to the UK to settle with your family then the £18,600 issue comes into play. |

FutureDon: Please any Nairalander in Sheffield? I would like to know more about the following;
* Student life * Accommodation * Student jobs * ..... and so on
Thank you. Sheffield and Leeds are similar, both have two universities, fantastic student community, great social life, biggest train stations and about 45mins away from each other. Sheffield is in south of Yorkshire while Leeds is in west. Just like in Leeds, the accommodation and job situations are similar. |

lighternote: Please any Nairalander in Leeds? I would like to know more about the following; * Student life * Accommodation * Student jobs *how good is Leeds University in terms of employer ratings? * ..... and so on Thank you. Student life in Leeds is great, the best in Yorkshire, vibrant city with two universities and plenty plenty colleges, a lot of student accommodations scatters around Leeds city centre and beyond. Leeds transport system is good, has the best train station in west Yorkshire, 45mins away from Manchester but about 3-4hrs away from London by train. The accommodations close to university and the city centre are pricey, but if you can afford it then you are in for a good time because its a lively place to be. There are student jobs in Leeds but you have to search well to get one because things are hard thesedays and jobs are not as available as it used to be. I don't know much about employment rating for Leeds university but considering the fact that its a good university and in a great city, the job rating will be high. |

You don't need to attach the hotel booking receipt but its a good idea to book for a place to stay for few days then use that time to view accommodations. |

Travel › Re: Step-by-step Guide To Relocating To South Africa by justwise(mod): 3:33pm On Jun 20, 2012 |
johntosin: This is a detail email, a step by step guide, on procedures to follow if you will like to relocate to South Africa either temporarily or permanently. If you are a graphic artist (of course like me!) you can make lots of money here, unlike every other parts of Africa, there are opportunities everywhere here! But just like any other business, you have gotta have a startup capital and at least a skill.
-1- Get your international passport; you are not good to go until you have it! This is the starting point.
-2- Get a reliable travel agent (contact me for referrals) to prepare your travel documents. At least a month visiting visa will do the job. Travel agents fee ranges from 60,000 – 80,000 Nigerian naira, visa processing takes only two weeks. Business/study visas take more time and money (of course you don’t need that)
-3- If you are below 30 years of age, you may be contacted by the consular where your visa application was submitted to pay a repatriation fee (N110, 000), just before granting of Visa. However, if you are above this age (well, am not as old, am fairly new!) this fee may not be necessary. This fee, if paid is refundable within a few business days (before visa expiration) as soon as you are back to Nigeria (Of course that’s if you are coming back!)
-4- Congratulations on your visa! Next, book a flight (price ranges = N85,000 – N120,000 (return ticket/person) it varies) and approach the next airport (if any in your village, good! But I took a flight from Lagos, Nigeria and its called ARIK because it sounds very cheap!).
-5- Prepare your BTA (Basic travelling Allowance); it ranges between five hundred to a thousand dollars. You will also need to reserve a Hotel (at least for the sake of documentation) if you are on a visiting visa.
-6- Beware of corruption at the Lagos airport! (am still gonna write a petition on them). DO NOT change all your money to dollars! Reserve some naira notes with you because you will need to “shake hands” with almost all the airport officials (from custom officials, immigration, NDLEA, to almost every fool wearing a uniform at the airport) even if you are a VIP and all your documents are “ultra” complete.
-7- Come on board! Note that no powdery substances are allowed on this flight ( Elubo, ata gigun, ata gbigbe, you had better keep it in your pants,…else…)
-8- Welcome to jo’burg! If you are lucky to arrange for someone to pick you up at the airport prior to your arrival, then you are very lucky! Life starts from there. If not, get a taxi and enter the street.
-9- Basically, you don’t necessarily need to know a body here before coming to South Africa. There are “Omo Naija” on every street and every corner! Infact, their head full everywhere. But be careful, they can make you use your return ticket before you really wanna do!
-10- Accommodation is very expensive here! It’s no joke at all. And NOBODY will accommodate you (am sorry) because occupants in each flat are well monitored by the authorities, limits must not be exceeded. Infact, an average South African work majorly to pay their rent! Food and clothing are minors. Infact, food is everywhere and very cheap! Therefore, try and get a small hotel to lodge for a couple of your first 2/3/few days (Price ranges between 120-150 S/A Rands) before getting to figure out renting an Accommodation. An apartment ranges from 45,000 – 250,000 naira equivalents per month! (You sef shout…lol). But the good news, no crime in sharing!
-11- Get a job, start a business with your little money left (if any) or start hustling. But am sorry there are no jobs here!...na security jobs full everywhere (in the cold winter). If you are a graphic artist like me, you can start talking to other colleagues/companies for free lance jobs and start a life from there. If you are a beautician/stylist (very good you are on your way to gold) you can thrive very well here because Nigerians run most beauty salons here! For other disciplines, If you are so proud of your certificate, then am sorry its of no use here! Certificates from Nigerian institutions are nothing to write home about, NO company is gonna give you a job with that “pali”, infact, forget it! You will need to do at least a diploma or certificate short course to compliment what you have before you can get a very good paying job (companies pay very good money here!). However, you will need a work permit to this effect. Work permits ranges from 7,000 Rands – 12,000 Rands (N140, 000 – N240, 000) depending on how genuine. South Africa in a man-eat-man dog-eat-dog kindda place and you are solely on your own. NOBODY borrows out money, not even a cent, nobody is ready to help, everybody is hustling and minding their business. LIFE start afresh for you On Your Own, keep fit!
-12- Here is the golden rule; never stay outta status! Your documents must always be valid! Police, cameras, CCTV are everywhere and on every street! If you are on a visiting visa, you will need to either convert your status to get a WORK PERMIT, BUSINESS PERMIT, STUDY PERMIT or get a LIFE….partner (you know whattamean, southy ladies are always ready for sex and marriage!). If you are still single and fresh from the oven (like me…lol), then you will “sell” fast here, southy ladies will be all over you! Anyways, just marry one and get a LIFE! (it’s always a contract). However, if you are not fast on your decision, then you will need to keep extending your stay till you are able to make up your mind and of course, more money from ya pocket.
-13- From a bit of research, it takes an average of 3 years to settle down here (i.e get a good job, home and other stuffs we all run after in life. However this can be faster if you have your magic wand with you – money!...and if not, Goodluck is not enough!) and find your feet! After this, you can now go back home to bring down your family if any.
-14- South Africa is a beautiful country – most developed part of Africa, four seasons, quality life style, all things WHITE or BLACK, beautiful city life, skyscrapers everywhere, beautiful ladies/women (if you do run after booties), sex right on the street (if you are into that trade), no generators, no DEMON called NEPA (lol), water running outta “healthy” pipes, life is beautiful, quality education, standard of living very o.k, make your money fast if you still have your head with you, Life expectancy very high, Crime rate = High!(of course like Nigeria, but I mean crime not corruption or a combination of both!), Boko Haram = Zero!, plane crash = not yet!, every other thing still very intact!
-15- In summary, this is what should be in your account before you think of coming here, if not don’t bother to come because you may be here to suffer. International Passport= 15k-20k, Visa Processing =60k-80k, repatriation fee (if applicable) = 110k, Flight Ticket = 95k-105k , BTA = 150k, Accommodation (at least 3 months) = 75k, Work permit = 140k-240k, other Savings = 100k. Good luck!...em,sorry All the best.

Fogman: @ OP, dont be discourage, you can make it. Keep the fire burning! Other before you have suceeded, you too can. There are thousands of young nigerians players scattered all over Europe? UK, engaged in football programs. You only get to hear their names when they comes to limeligth.
@Justwise, did all Nigerian youngsters playing in UK, Europe played in a local team in nigeria? Eg Sodje brothers, Ameobi brothers, etc where did Sodje or Ameobi grew up? At what age did they move to the UK with their family? |
Travel › Re: Please Advice;going To Europe Search For A Football Team. by justwise(mod): 10:50am On Jun 20, 2012 |
Fogman: I dont subscribe to the ideal of discouraging people. He might be naive in his post, but if he contact some scouts, academies or football schools, etc he might be lucky to be invited for their events. And who knows, he might attracts the interest of coaches, low division clubs, etc while participating in the events. And i don't subscribe in deceiving people and giving them false hope, tell how he will be invited by any European club when they know nothing about him, no record of him playing in any club in Nigeria or stuff. Since you have helped some boys in the pass why not help him then? |
Travel › Re: Please Advice;going To Europe Search For A Football Team. by justwise(mod): 10:23am On Jun 20, 2012 |
Fogman: I disagree with your view. There are lots of young Nigerian footballer in football clubs, academies, schools, etc all over Europe. If you have a genuine reason to travel to europe for a football program with an invitation letter you might get a visa. Though the chances is slim, but some do get visas. I m speaking from experience, cos i have in the past assisted some boys for football program in UK. Which football club in the UK is that? Talking about invitation letter, does the op mention anywhere in his post that he has been invited by any club? So without any invitation letter from any club please can you explain to us that 'genuine' reason he has to get a visa? |

raphrinco: @vicjustice,to go to europe to search for a football club and get a local football team ,atleast one should thank God for that. I will startthereif I see one,and within 2years i must have played about 50 matches with a lot of players ,different teams,a lot of exposure and contacts.Even the fifa agents will like TO have a deal with me because of the experience and by the Grace of God make to a top team,Amen! Please face the reality, no embassy will give you a visa to travel to Europe to look for football team. You need more than miracle to get that happen. If you are a talented player then start from local Nigerian team and get spotted from there, whoever told you that you can get a visa to Europe to look for football team is just lying to you. |

kunlewoye: @Justwise: I feel u, bruv. You know at times these people withhold info so they can refuse u ur Visa and still be able to xplain to you using those quoted articles and it'd still make sense (not that they care to make sense all the time, tho..lol) but it's better to be on the safe side, moreover, this guidance document was released a few months back and no recommendations we make now can be definitive except someone comes on here to cry foul after being refused based on this ambiguity. There is no ambiguity in that guidance or the UK visa rule, its straight forward, some people make it difficult for themselves by either mis-interpreting the rules or submitting forged/fake documents. |

But last month i found my old lost one.what should i do.is the old one still valid for trips abroad.
My question is what are the risk keeping the 2 and is the old still machine readable.
I need multiple opinion.
awaits all your addvice. Since you declared it missing and got another one, the old one should have been cancelled, so stick to the new one to avoid getting yourself in trouble at the airport. |

badboy: @ Op, Pls kindly analyze my case. I was refused Visa way back mid 2007, while working with Diamond Bank. Then, there was this system in place where you could pay fees at GtBank, send all relevant docs and reccomendation from HR and wait for result; plus you could re-apply immediately if refused.
I was refused on the grounds that I did not send originals of my docs & that they did not understand why I was going to spend so much, 1/4 of my yearly pay on a 2 weeks holiday, infact the response was like they felt I wanted to bail.
I re-applied immediately sending originals of all my docs, ID card inclusive and an explanation on why I was spending the amount they thought was so much(less than 5000 pounds). Lo and behold I was refused the second time with the same previous reasons given -exactly,no change,as if if they did copy & paste. The situation looked messy to me. Here they were asking me for originals of docs, all of which were sent to them and returned to me, ID card inclusive. Another interesting dimension to the episode was that when my docs were returned,I found among them additional documents and ID card belonging to someone else in my package. I expected the embassy to contact me but they didnt...I wonder what they told the owner of the items.....
I have not applied again since then.Do you think It's ok if I re-apply at this time, assuming I have all relevant requirements covered? Has your condition changed since your last refusal? Better salary, improved financially, Married, own property, business? |
