If you want to be an average Joe you can relocate to Canada but if you want a chance to impact your generation positively then Nigeria offers this much more than Canada does You mean the list of business men using church as their offices? |

Let's take the creative industry as a case study: the likes of Tuface Idibia, King Sunny Ade,(late)Fela Anikulakpo Kuti, Tiwa Savage, Joke Sylvia, Kaffy and others all leveraged on their Nigerianess lol which Canadian/Nigerian abroad is in their league in the creative industry? Wiseoldman: No sense of pride at all with the way we are arguing so passionately about a foreign country. Its true these countries are more developed, but Nigeria will get there. There is soo much untapped resources here. It is really a question of ones vision anyway. If you want to live a comfortable average civilized life you have a greater chance doing that in Canada. If you on the other hand want to take a chance to be great with the one life you have. Then you have greater chance at this in NAIJA.
For those of you using children as excuses. A Canadian Professor at the U of Manitoba I believe said the main reason why we would all fail to have a great career/life is that we have all cleverly found a way to use poor children as the reason for being mediocre. Some of you would say in 50 years time "Kid I would have built the largest rice mill in Nigeria which was still developing then, but I had to give you a comfortable life"... Even God himself should be angry with you right now |

Eastner: Hello Justwise, trust you are good...So,i just filled and paid for the visa application. Here's my question, there was no breakdown of cost of flight and living expenses on the form. Rather,it was,'how much money are you planning to spend on your visit?'. So,i'll like to know if i still need to include the breakdown (cost of Flight for son & I, Cost of Living Expenses for Son & I) in my covering letter or leave it as it is. Thank you. Breaking down your cost of the trip helps a lot since you are not going to be there to explain things to the ECO. Typical examples are the case of hotel and flight cost..if you just stated how much you budgeted for hotel or flight how will the ECO know whether that amount is for budget hotel or 5star hotel? Whether the flight is economy or first class? |

Pidgin2: I wonder why you guys keep acting like Europeans and Americans are exempted from "who know who syndrome" when George Bush senior and junior have both ruled America before and another Bush from the same family has been governor. The Kennedy dynasty, Clintons, just to name a few. Many people get jobs without knowing anyone in the top rank (especially in the corporate world) here
Middle class Nigeria =lower class in most countries? How did you arrive at this conclusion. How many middle class Western citizens can boast of actually owing property (fully paid for)? I know middle class families here who own about 3 and above with lands and thriving businesses (not to talk of the rich who own estates and conglomerates) How many lower class citizens abroad can afford vacations abroad etc.
Despite all the advancement in technology, cancer still kills people over there too: David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Terry Wogan, Barry Howard, Caroline Aherne, Victoria Wood, Howard Marks, Paul Daniels, AA Gill, John Cruyff, just to name a few among the rich stars who lost their lives to it in 2016. Even children still die, people still die of dementia, Parkinson, heart disease. With all the state of the art medicines available doctors still send people home to die. Alzheimers-disease, cancer, kidney disease and many more are still killing people.
Are you sure you are paid to reproduce or rather the government pays to cater for your child if you are a citizen and a low income earner? Only the poor rely on benefits na.
By your reliance on government benevolence even to acquire a house am I right to assume that you are a low income earner, is that something to be proud of? FYI as the government is contributing towards your home so are they taxing others heavily to make it a reality (a classic case of robbing Peter to pay Paul ) I suggest you start a church in Nigeria you make so much money because you have the ability to lie with straight face. Lower class Nigerians taking holiday abroad? Where? Niger republic? I have been in this section since 2009 and i know those lower class taking holiday abroad. Pidgin2? They are running away from hardship and not holiday!! You talk about Nigeria here as if you are talking to foreigners |

How can you dismiss your heritage, your children's cultural roots, how can you look them in the eye and say you abandoned your fatherland and co-opted the whiteman's. This nothing but parasitism, selfishness, spinelessness and it is reprehensible. You bring dishonor to your african names. Yes. |

Pidgin2: But you know the African system is structured a bit differently, e. g. Instead of sending the elderly to old people's homes, children and relatives are actually expected to take care of the aged, also you can't see your relative desperate for survival and not assist him or her. It helps and takes the place of government assistance which you enjoy there (I'm sure you have heard of some husband's sending their spouse to live with her parents or with his own parents when he finds things difficult. While growing up, we assisted my uncle, his wife, kid and house help for years when he was unemployed).
I'm not too sure about the prevalence of crime in US compared to Nigeria but I know both experience it often. Gun laws over there is not even helping as any mentally disturbed person with a license can gun down innocent children and citizens at any time
Of course access to basic amenities is better there but let's not forget that OP's prospect look good for financial stability and growth here Most of that are coming from relatives living abroad, because we live abroad doesn't mean that we don't maintain the culture of helping family members I send money home frequently, i mean every two months to family members to solve one or two problems There is nothing about Nigeria you can lecture me about because i lived there and still in touch with people there and will be visiting in few days time. |

Schwartz: Thank you. I am being misunderstood. I have not said abroad is bad. I also do not advice anyone from travelling. Most people have this mindset that once they touch here they will start picking money and turn millionaires over night. After some years of toiling some people actually begin to do well but many struggle and live from pay cheque to cheque. Some living on government benefits. I have personally met a Nigerian woman who came to my office to beg for money to feed hereself and her child. And for people like this their friends and relatives would feel that they are abroad enjoying not knowing that their daughter is in Germany begging! But I have met so many Nigerians living abroad and there are struggling. There are many people here who would gladly relocate to Nigeria if they can be paid 4000,000 naira monthly. For someone has worked in Nigeria before I am very sure that in addition to the salary the guy is paid allowances as well. He is clearly a millionaire and single. Also from the first post we are told that he has the prospect of growing on the job hence even more pay. Why would anyone give up all that and start life afresh abroad? It beats me. He can apply for visa and comfortably spend his leave abroad. I have relatives who work in Nigeria yet they bought holiday homes abroad. Are there not Nigerians working right there in Nigeria and sending their kids abroad to school paying thousands of pounds and dollars? I have no problem with your view and i know what happened in German thread hence my intervention here. I can understand why somebody wants to leave Nigeria but many do it with wrong impression and over inflated expectation. |

Pidgin2: We have the option of using ACs or fans and there is no utility bill attached to using them, cable is not necessary here too (it is free to watch many channels without cable)
Just like no one wants to be out of work and dependent on the government for sustainance I find our culture especially the one where relatives and even friends helping out during such trying times as a welcome substitute to what the government does for you. Even as a grown man or woman if one becomes financially desperate here you can actually fall back on relations and friends just like the government does for you over there
Like I have said several times the quality of life abroad is better but do they even have good cultures there, Lol I thought they also have rapists, paedophiles and serial killers there na? Govt help here because people who work paid into the system to help those who are not working, the disabled and the elderly ones. Not many relatives in Nigeria will sustain you while you are jobless infact they depend on people living abroad to help out. We probably have more rapist and paedophiles in Nigeria than UK, US and Canada because the law against such crime in Nigeria is not strict enough and of course you can pay your way out of the crime if arrested. |

Pidgin2: I don't need to pay for heating here so that's free. I find most utility bills are a lot cheaper here compared to living abroad. For example, if I chose to supply my own water(on a permanent basis) I won't need to ever pay for water bill also bills like cable cost from $3 upwards, data for most networks is like $3 per month, I think because we earn less compared to America, UK, Canada, etc we pay less too. Imagine minimum wage here is a meagre N18,000/month. Good but i don't need to buy air condition, i don't need to struggle with NEPA, my water bill is about £60 a year, and if i want to bring it down i get a smart meter installed, cable is a matter of choice its not a necessity. If i'm out of work today i will still enjoy free medical treatment, my rent paid and still get paid to help me look for job. If i'm living in Nigeria and earning 400K a month i wouldn't leave that job to any part of the world to live illegally doing factory job, but with work permit like Canadian work program visa? Definitely i will be in next available flight to Canada. You enjoy quality of life, relatively safe place compare to Nigeria, less likely to be kidnapped because of your wealth. quality medical treatment and most importantly less corrupt. |

Pidgin2: Well done brother, you earn $2000 and you pay $1000/month to share rent. My brother such low rent sef I am sure you live far from the city center. If you convert your rent it is N500,000 to share room per month
You pay light, water, cable, Internet, phone bill, tax, food, you buy fuel etc too. I know it is not easy but in your initial post you quickly converted your earnings into naira knowing fully well that there are a lot of people who are very naive and once they see such figures they will not mind taking the risk of dying in order to earn such amount as an illegal immigrant(even crossing the Mediterranean Sea), please consider these folks before you try to give certain impressions about your life there Maybe I'm missing something here..I have been reading this and people keep saying you pay this and that abroad...I mean don't you also pay those in Nigeria? Do you get them free? |

250k salary If you applied for 6months visa you will be issued 6months visa and nothing above it. There are 6months, 2yrs, 5yrs and 10yrs visa categories. If you are not a student, the seminar not related to your current job and your company not sponsoring the trip then the task you have now is to convince the ECO why this seminar is important to you. Your salary rang is good and if the trip takes 2months worth of your salary then financial wise you are good to go. |

and then when you are about to give birth , you travel again . this issue has been treated countless times on this thread...at least every 3 or 4 pages, if you read earlier posts, you would have seen where this issue has been treated severally ..and i have removed the section that talked about letter of intent from the first page because people have abused it. |

The first to come in was the Jamaican guy, he worked as a plumber. He said ‘’hi, nice to meet ya, my name is Peter.’’
I said ‘’hello, my name is Chichi, nice to meet you too. I asked him what he does for a living and he said, ‘’I am a ‘plummer.’
For like five seconds, I didn’t get what he had just said, I went ‘’sorry, what did you say?’’ he said, ‘’I work as a ‘plummer’
That was when I realized he meant ‘plumber’ but was pronounced as ‘plummer,’ I learned the correct pronunciation right there and then! Chichi please stick with plumber and not 'plummer'..you really don't want to know what that means..very cruel street slag |
