A police officer who took the place of a hostage during a terror attack at a French supermarket married his partner while on his death bed.

Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame voluntarily swapped himself for a female store worker during Friday's siege.

The 44-year-old officer died in hospital from his injuries after being shot three times by radical Islamist Redouane Lakdim in Trebes, southwest France.

A mass is being held, paying tribute to the victims of the attack.

It has emerged that hours before his death Lt Col Beltrame married his partner Marielle in a ceremony at a hospital in Carcassonne.

According to reports, the couple had been planning a church wedding in June after they met during a tour of an abbey in France in 2016.

Father Jean-Baptiste said the couple had spent some 30 hours preparing for their marriage ceremony.

He said: "I gave him the sacrament of marriage, and the sacrament of the sick."

Ladkim, 25, was shot dead by police after Lt Col Beltrame left his mobile phone on so colleagues could hear what was happening inside the supermarket.

A national tribute is to take place at a later date for Lt Col Beltrane, who President Emmanuel Macron said had "died a hero" and deserved "the respect and admiration of the whole nation".

The officer's brother, Cedric, said he had given his life "for strangers" and knew he had "almost no chance" of surviving. "he did not hesitate one second," Mr Beltrame told RTL radio.

"He did what needed to be done and thanks to him, many lives were saved and yes, I think the word hero is very appropriate."

The officer's mother, who has not been named, said she was "not surprised" by her son's actions, saying: "He's always been like that."

Too cut the long story, My relative called me some days ago to tell me that he will soon be evicted from his house because he is owing 3 months rent and that he is scheduled for Appendectomy surgery, though I can't verify this information as I am not resident in his location, and I don't really have anybody to confirm his story.

Anyway, I refused to help him, he should go and beg Buhari and his supporters, I warned him, I told him clearly that Buhari is the worst thing that could happen in this generation, as usual, he called me names and said I support corruption.

I don't care if he is evicted from his house, but my problem is the Appendectomy surgery, he does not have money for it (so he told me), I hope he doesn't die or get really sick, but if he does, 1 down, ..

I have started warning some other people I know about voting Buhari again in 2019, they have been abusing me, Buhari will probably win again in 2019, and Nigeria will finally be doomed, they will come begging, and I will say NO

PS, I am not wealthy or Rich in any way, but due to my occupation and location, I am not really affected by Buhari's Government, I am just managing myself.

I never dreamt of being a soldier when I was growing up. My dream was going into showbiz ;majoring in acting. At the age of 12 I was already writing scripts to be acted in our secondary school drama club of which I was always being casted as the lead role because of my level of talent and my ability to improvise when acting on stage. On the long run, I was only able to finish my secondary education and things went south.

I ended up in the army 2012. Initially I thought I would be able to come to the Army and sponsor my education but loo and behold what I met was something different. I came to realize that the Army is only enjoyed by the commission officers. The other ranks are just labourers in military uniform.

Frustration set in. All my plans and dreams are just vanishing before my eyes. I have attempted suicide for close to four times. And the thought is still overwhelming. I feel like run away from the Army and follow my dreams because being the Army is doing more harm than good. Pls advice me.

Bro it is easy to say she is fucking her so called brother. But I can tell you something you must take serious.
