My point exactly. They are both guilty and no one is really innocent in this matter. J111333: |
Judging who is more racist is actually subjective. I'll take you through memory lane a bit for better context. A brief and simplified view of US political history. Originally, the Democratic party were the party of the south, the party of white supremacy and the KKK whilst the Republican party were the party that believed in some level of fairness and good old fashioned American values as defined in the US constitution. All of that changed when Lyndon B Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Bills into law in the 60s. The roles were reversed and the Republican party under Nixon (read about the Southern Strategy) became the party of white supremacy. But to a large extent both parties generally did not care much for the affliction of black people in the USA. The main difference is the Democrats pretend they do, the Republicans do not pretend at all. Biden is racist because during his time in the Senate he introduced legislation that impacted blacks negatively. He has also been caught saying some racist things. Also, understand this Biden is a conservative democrat who shares the same beliefs and values as a conservative Republican. Both parties have conservatives, moderates and liberals. These groups have more in common than most people care to think and tend to support similar policies regardless of party differences. On the other hand, Trump's family has a track record dating back from his father being a member of the KKK and his father (and also later Trump himself) denying black tenants the ability to rent/buy their real estate on the basis of their skin colour. This is well documented. But did Trump stop there, No. He was the Chief Commander of the Birther movement (Obama was born in the US, if you believe he was not, then no need to read further). His disagreements with Obama did not stem from policy differences or his love for America, out of hatred he just could not stand a black guy in the White House. I am in no way defending Obama, while I think he was decent president, I did not agree with alot of his policies. However, blacks have much of a claim to America as much as whites do hence Obama can be president as much as anyone who is a natural born citizen of the USA. This is clearly spelt out in the US constitution. But then, most Trump supporters do not understand this despite claiming to love the USA and be about the constitution. On the other hand, Trump is quite a racist, I mean he is a racist's racist. But in addition, he is a consistent liar, very corrupt and he does not care about the average american. He may well be caught clothed in full Klan regalia lynching a n***a and his supporters will say he was trying to rescue him from suicide. I do not like both men, I identify more with Republican principles than I do with Democrat ones but Trump cannot be the new normal, he cannot be the way forward. I am more than certain republicans will win in 2024 but I see 2020 as a lost cause. Republicans just need to find a way to present and back the right candidates that can appeal to most Americans regardless of ethnicity. It is sad that ever since Nixon, they have had to appeal to their white supremacist base alot of whom also happen to be evangelical christians (I call them fake christians anyway, no where in the bible does it state that one colour is more superior than the other). The party must understand that America is changing, whites will not continue to be a majority in years to come and they need to start changing their strategy and abandoning their racist philosophies. For example, alot of immigrants from South America, Africa and Asia actually identify with Republican values but most of them vote Democrat, why do you think that is? It is pretty simple, they look at the party and what their message is and nothing seems to resonate with them so they are forced to vote the other party. Trump is bound to lose this election because he not a good leader period. He can talk about the economy and a host of other things he did or did not do but facts are facts and people have watched as he has dithered and danced over the last 4 years. Elections have consequences and it is what it is. LadyExcellency: |
Ofcourse APC has not abandoned restructuring, they have just postponed it till another party is in control, just as some within the PDP are promising they will restructure Nigeria when they ascend to power but they never did such when they were in power. Nigerian politicians are just a bunch of hypocrites, playing Nigerians like a game of draught. Nigerians are the only ones that can force restructuring, anything else is and will continue to be a sham. |
"Restructuring is not feasible at the moment." "Everyone must come together and agree to change." "Pastors should not get involved in political discussions." The above is the type of thinking that the average Nigerian has that has held us back for far too long. Imagine a human being with a brain and I assume some level of literacy suggesting the above. In my view, Nigeria must be restructured or split there are no other solutions beyond this. The status quo is not sustainable and I fear if we do not address things now, what is coming will come for us all. Nigerians have never had a say in this coming togetherness that we call a country, Nigeria. Trying to superimpose western style of governance on a people who have a different set of ideals and way of life was never going to be the answer. The average northerner has a totally different outlook than the average southerner. The southerners, even within themselves, are too strong and too smart to give in to themselves. You can never have a semblance of a country if the people within the geographical entity don't agree to work together. This is why I believe this failed project, this horror reality show called Nigeria has to ended and the various regions must determine the best course of action for themselves as is consistent with their ideals, customs and way of life. Now, do I really think restructuring or splitting is the solution to ALL our problems, NO! Corrupt politicians and the stupid imbeciles that support them will continue to exist but atleast the hope is since they will be closer to home they can be dealt with without the distractions and diversionary tactics of tribe and religion. Also, regional management of resources will curb this free access to money the entire country has gotten used to and will reduce corruption (hopefully). I know for certain the Southwest I am have our work cut out for us however I am positive that we can build and lead a viable nation. |
Do you think the outcome of the first debate matters to people who support or sympathize with Trump? I have long concluded that anyone who really does support Trump, the politician, is not really worthy of my time and effort. There is no convincing such people because they live in an alternative universe where facts don't exist and nothing else matters except that which comes forth from their night king. solmus: |
If true then this has to be funniest thing I have read all week. In the words of Tyrell Lannister but vice versa "a lion does not concern itself with the opinions of a sheep. Nuclear powered nations do not concern themselves with the opinion of a so-called country. Only when we have a seat at the table in the league of nations can we have a say. Those who are at that table have earned it by sweat and blood over centuries, not by prayer and fasting and surely not by accident. All of this wishful thinking needs to stop and Nigeria needs to know its place. |
Bro abeg calm down. Hahahahahahaha. I wish him well and want him to recover fully. I believe he will recover fully. But you are right to feel this way seeing all the damage his inaction caused to several ordinary Americans. I think it is better he suffers the humiliation of defeat at the polls than for him to die now. If he dies, in the hearts of many, he is a hero they will immortalize him. In all honesty, I do like republican principles of small government, self responsibility and entrepreneurship but even the republicans in the republican party do not practice these principles. They are for corporations more than they are for the little guy and no one represents the stamp better than DJT. But I wish him no harm and I hope you would the same too. Jakumo: |
To the contrary my man, I hate him because of the sort of politics he promotes and mainly because he is a racist. I actually like and identify more with republican principles than democrats but Trump is a different animal, he represents the worst of the worst there is and I fear he may have inspired some people who are even worse off. I have relatives who are citizens of the US and I know what the average black has been through and goes through in the USA. Agreed it is much better than it was before but systemic racism may well forever persist. Trump promotes these things like any other politician the US has seen since Woodrow Wilson (who openly supported the KKK). Justiceibeikenn: |
This man is the master of double speak. Ever since he became a Federal Minister it's been one stupid thing or another coming out of the hole he calls a mouth. Now Mr Fashola wants us to seek results from LGs, please help ask him which LG? Is it the same LG whose chairmen are mere stooges of sitting governors, whose budgets are determined by the state government, whose accounts are merged with the state government, is it that same LG? The constitution is clear on what the role of the various tiers of government is, and people are not out of touch with reality when they demand that there be security, constant power supply, good roads, good hospitals, good education institutions and overall a thriving economy that enables job creation. With the way Nigeria is structured today, no one in their right minds would think these things can be done by the local and state government alone when the federal government controls just about everything. Agreed the local and state government have their roles to play and have failed as well but if we look at the Federal Government (not just this one, everyone we have had since the 70s) and judge them by comparing the resources they have had at their disposal to the results on ground, they have failed woefully and they keep failing to this day. Now the government is made up of people, both the people at leadership and the ones who voted them in, so by extension we have all failed one way or another but the main blame must goto leadership. And I am sure if we decide to ask Mr Fashola what he thinks about restructuring which is in my view the real solution out of this mess, he will come up with some bull dung excuse about how water don hang for him teeth. Let us keep postponing the inevitable and keep lying on everything else rather than taking responsibility for ourselves. |
Karma knows everybody's house address really. Trump has done every single thing within his power to downplay the effects of the Coronavirus. From tearing up and ignoring the pandemic response plan left for him by the previous administration to blaming the virus on China. All he had to do was lead, no one expected a miracle from him just lead by example by wearing a mask and preaching preventive measures and then let the experts do their thing. But No, the man was busy playing politics because he knew it was more popular to do so with his electoral base. Not to wear masks, not to social distance but to downplay the whole pandemic in order not to get people panicked and spread conspiracy theories about the virus, that was Trump's response plan to the virus (he is on record saying this himself). Statistics have shown very clearly that countries such as Germany, Spain and Italy, where masks were worn and preventive measures were taken have seen infection numbers decline. This man wanted to open schools and send children, wanted to deport international students in the middle of a pandemic and he even suspended the H1-B program (what the hell does this have to do with finding a solution to what is on ground) and was doing all sorts but lead. Meanwhile people were dying like flies, mostly low income people who could not afford access to good healthcare. And now he has the same virus. I know his supporters do not care because they are not people who like being told the truth, they have their own truths a.k.a alternate facts. I hope he recovers and I believe he will get trounced in the elections not because I love the democrats but because he is just that bad. Always remember that an incompetent person in a position of power is as dangerous as playing russian roulette with a fully loaded weapon. lastpage: |
Exactly. I do not like the man or his politics but I do not wish ill on him. I want to see him healthy as he gets defeated at the polls. Some lunatic Trump supporters are already spreading useless lies about how he was infected at the recent debate. Just imagine. azikiweironsi:

I am 100 percent certain DJT and his wife will not be using hydroxylchloroquine to treat themselves. |
Why are you trying so hard to derail the discussion? First you make a comparison between Trump and I and now you are a Nigerian-American who happens to know everyone who has gotten a visa to the USA from those who have not. You must see your US citizenship (assuming you really have one) as some kind of holy grail that no one has ever accomplished. I do not begrudge you, I wish you well, whatever makes you happy and sleep well at night. However, it still does not subtract from the facts I made earlier so I'll just conclude you really don't have anything of substance to say. Judging from your words, it is really no wonder you are a Trump supporter. Goodbye. okuta007: |

Don't know where you get your statistics from but Ogun has never been nor will it ever be a muslim majority state. If we sieve the Yorubas out in Lagos, I am sure it will be an even split, Oyo asides ibadan is not a muslim majority, only in Osun do you have such. And FYI, Yoruba land will not be split on the basis of religion. I know this is what you and your master in MURIC want but it will never happen. flyingpig: |
If true, good. However, no need to stop at praising ourselves on what is a long needed and overdue project. If we are to dig ourselves from the mess we are in, we need atleast 50 of such project spread across the country connecting key hubs to places that matter. |
Don't derail the conversation, I did not and will never compare myself to him. Life is transient my friend, today he is the President of the US, tomorrow he is a private citizen. I guess that is something you cannot wrap your head around as a Nigerian, you think he will be in that position for life. okuta007: |
Thanks mate, better to be a pig in mud than to be a DJT supporter and Breitbart, Alex Jones and Fox News consumer. Ekemeze: |
You are such an idiot. I hope you won't come and say Democrats infected him and some gullible followers will believe. The story is about DJT yet you find a way to insert Democrats into the narrative. Here is a man who subscribed to the idea that the Covid-19 pandemic was a hoax, then he refused to wear a mask, then he encouraged people not to wear masks, organising rallies saying masks were not necessary and was generally slow to intervening and preventing the disease from spreading in the USA, blaming China, withdrawing from the WHO, pulling all kind of stunts not needed at this very point in time. There is a time for politicking and there is a time to behave like human beings. But no, it is Demoncrats. Like Trump your leader, you are a problem unto yourself. I wish him a speedy recovery. Ekemeze: |
I don't understand what makes Saudi Arabia smarter than Iran as you have posited. Despite the many western imposed sanctions, Iran has been and continues to be highly ranked in key metrics of science and technology productivity and growth ahead of Saudi Arabia. Let us not forget they produce most of their military equipment unlike Saudi Arabia that depends solely on US and Western Europe. I am certain that if they had access to the resources Saudi Arabia has, they would be further along. Agreed there are other areas where they can do better such as human rights but even in this area they are better than Saudi Arabia or atleast as worse. Iran is also somewhat a democracy whilst Saudi Arabia remains a monarchy. What people fail to realise is that the modern day Iranians are the Persians of old. They have a storied history and are a proud and resolute people. Their disagreement with the USA is primarily because of USAs consistent interference in Iran's domestic affairs dating back to the 50s when the CIA and MI6 kicked out their democratically elected leader Mossadegh. This was because the man wanted to nationalise his country's oil for the benefit of his people, I guess it did not sit well with the powers that be. And that single action by the US led to a series of events that ushered in the modern day Ayatollah led Iranian regime. Now I know we in this part of the world are used to taking insults and remaining subservient but the Iranians are a different people, they were once a world power conquering many nations (and they were conquered too), and it is why they have stood and continue to stand against the USA. If they stop developing military weapons today, the US will invade them tomorrow. Infact the only reason this has not happened is because Iran has missiles that can strike US military bases and key US allies across that region. It is not like in an all out war the US would not win, but the damage sustained will be too much for the USA. This is why you won't see the US attack Iran, they prefer to use economic sanctions. Quite sad, may his soul rest in peace. I guess the moral to the learnt here is to seek happiness above all else not money. Money is good, money does alot of things but in the darkest of nights and coldest of days, money is money, just an ordinary means of exchange. Money cannot buy happiness. |
4th Mainland Bridge initially valued at $2.2billion, most likely will exceed that because I am sure as hell the project, overpriced as it already is, will never be delivered on time. Judging by the magic tricks this administration (by this admin I refer to the real hand behind the scenes not the specifically the present figure head) has pulled with the Lekki-Epe and the Badagry-Mile2 Expressways, it is safe to say this project will probably be completed in 10 years (at the very minimum) with the very slow pace of work. So the much needed project will probably arrive at a time when more cars (than present) are on Lagos roads meaning it would have arrived late (in addition to being overpriced). It may even probably be tolled (who knows, this is the strategy of this administration, taxation without representation). It is well! |
This joke of a country needs to be split fast. Anything less is just adding salt to wound. |
Mumu, I am a Yoruba man (Check all my previous posts for clarification). Some SW politicians are on record to have supported such a bill, do your research. And I have never wished ill on my fellow man, even those I do not necessarily agree with politically however my dear friend be reminded that stupidity and ignorance kills faster than anything else. MENELIIK: |
You will be shocked to know that some South western politicians support this useless bill. yoruba1914: |

Brother, your comments come from a very insightful place and I agree with all you have said. Our fate has indeed being sealed albeit in a rather unfortunate and sad way. But you see, I personally would rather fight to ensure that my future generations have a home to call their own, that keep quiet, arms folded. It is better to have a conflict now than to look back, 100 years from now and wish we had a conflict. Things keep getting worse by the day, what it means to be a human being in Nigeria keeps getting redefined, never mind defining what it means to be a citizen. If we do not nip this thing in the bud, it will be what consumes us all. DexterousOne: |
I unapologetically announce that we are not reforming our way out of this one bro, ours is a lost cause and it is too late to speak or think of implementing reform. My suggestion is we restructure this country back to the way it was pre-independence with an agreement to go our separate ways after a fixed time period, say 25 years. Either the above or we call it quits and split into four. While I admit it is not as easy as I have put it (it should actually be that easy but the powers that be will not have it and the people are too weak to fathom), the alternative which is what we are presently living through is akin to us watching ourselves die slow and I do not mean us alone, no, even our two to three generations to come literally have no semblance of a future. NB Now some may call me a prophet of doom, others may look at themselves and say afterall it is not that bad, this write-up is not directed to such feeble minded folk. See we often feel like since "I" can afford a car or two, a house or two, to send my children to good schools and afford to pay my bills, things are not as bad as they seem. We are so carried away with ourselves in our individual lives, tucked away in the safety of our neighbourhoods that we fail to see just how bad things are the minute we step into the chaos that typifies the actual country. We need a country that will work for anyone who is hardworking enough and willing enough, Nigeria as it is presently is not such a place and will never be such a place. DexterousOne: |
