Leaderdeji:
Dear All,

Top of the day to you.

My spouse had recently applied for Canadian student visa. Myself and our two children are planning to submit our own application as dependents. Equally to be included as dependent is a 22 years old distance relative who recently completed her national diploma course. She is to assist in taking care of the two kids while my spouse is vigorously pursuing her studies while in Canada. On my own part, I am to remain in Nigeria to continue with my paid employment job and other sundry businesses. Occasionally therefore, I will need to visit the family during the duration of my spouse’s studies.

I am worried however if the embassy will consider an application where a distant relative is included. Better still, I will appreciate if the forum can advise on how best to go ahead with such as application.

Looking forward to read all your educating guidance.

Regards,
Leaderdeji
Any one above21 years is not a dependent.

A friend of mine ask me a serious question dat I alone couldn't answer, He said and I quote " How could studying abroad change your life? Can it give u a better job? A better pay? He said further I have seen graduate from Canada and Dubai who are jet to get jobs since they left school 2 years ago"

I couldn't answer him well cuz I don't have all the answer, plz shower me with thy WORDS of Wisdom so I can prove to Him why he should tire his BSC certificate from DELSU.
I think you are the one asking this question and may not really be your friend. Be straight forward and you will get support.

Am confused ooh huh huh, what will I do?

I just realized that i can't use just my WAEC result to apply for undergraduate programe that it doesn't meet German University requirements.
I have google searched and saw that i have to attend Studienkolleg preparatory course....Where and how can i do this preparatory course?

i thought all that was required was my WAEC and TOFEL results.

wat are the alternatives for me to get admitted, is it Cambridge A level or wat?

wat are my options?

plz tell me wat do i do? plz
Yes because here you spend only 3 or maximum of 3 and half years to earn your Bachelor degree unlike Canada or other places where you spend 4 to 5 years.

giftwalter: Tanks plz I need to learn german...I live in warri and the only german school is in Lagos...I hear der is a long distance learning program..plz how can I register? And how much does it cost?
There are language schools in Warri. Try to find out. You don't need to go to Lagos since you don't have accommodation there in the first place. Warri has lots of language schools which you have not found out. Though the language is not necessary for your studies here since you will be studying in English but it is necessary if you intend to work and it will help you integrate into their system. Most schools here teaches German language for free. I do take German courses to improve my language skills. (though it is optional)

Eke40seven: Oga Kelly4top I have been watching your positive inputs for a while. you are highly
welcome. We appreciate your time here and the
good will of everyone here will surely guide you.
I want to put you on the spot light. It has become a tradition here to at least put one Oga in Germany on the show. Oga Kelly4top, this is your turn to shine.
As a way of sharing your experience, I
will like to pose this questions to you. We would
appreciate it if you answered it in your own way as
we have had some guest ogas too who had given
their accounts too.
Let me seize this opportunity to conduct this
interview on this forum
1. Please, introduce yourself, name (optional),
course, level, school, city, your school in
Nigeria (optional)
2. How does German educational system differ
from the system you were used to?
3. What academic challenge(s) did you face or are
you facing currently and how are/did you tackling/
tackle them?
3. What is your (academic) advise to prospective
Nigerian student coming over to study?
(summarised)
4. Do your school have a sizeable number of
international students and what is the state of
interaction like with them?
5. Did you find it difficult integrating into the
society and how were you able to overcome it if
you had?
6. In your opinion, do you think a hard working
Nigerian student with a particular result can
maintain his/her academic performance in
Germany with the same efforts? A scale will be
appreciated, I know time is not the only or the
best measure of hard work but For instance,
A spends 6 hours of study everyday in Nigeria,
GPA=4
". ". ". ". ". ". ". in Germany GPA=?
7. Like in any society, there are distractions or
factors that reduces performance, what are the
major culprits in Germany for an unenlightened
Nigerian JJC?
8. Most of the male or even females at one time or
the other would have fantasized having a German
Prince or princess, what are their chances? Do the
shy Germans gals take to Nigerians? Can
ebele17(f), get her prince charming easily?
9. List 5 most important items an intending new
comer should bring along to Germany.
10. Give 5 most important tip to surviving in Germany, jobs and all.
11. Just give your opinion on these claims below by indicating with an Agree (A), Neutral (N) or Disagree (D)
a. Germans are cold
b. They hate late coming
c. They are racist
D. They don't have time for chitchat
E. They are introverts
F. They love beer
G. they don't know how to queue
P.s. I understand that these questions may be too
much to answer at a go, you can answer them bit
by bit at your convenience if its gonna take its toll
on you. Thank you and God bless.
1. My name is Kelly4top (Electrical Engr with IT ) studied computer science in naija for one year.

2. German education system different from our naija system system cos in naija they teach us and spoon fed us starting from basics but here thet lecture you starting from advanced critarias. They assume you know it before. I remember the first assignment a professor gave us after 2 weeks of landing to use c-programming to calculate and solve some coefficients in maths as if i had done it before. O'boy we do research and learning here not depending on professors cos they wont teach you any thing. They will only lecture you.

3. Going back to the basics for those who have left school for long was the academic challenge i faced and that was how I tackled it. Spend more time in reading to meet up so that you dont get lost in class as if the professors are speaking Swahili.

3b.i advise them to buckle up and be brave when they first receive the shock of how low our education system, foundation and quality has gone cos they will find out in their first week of lecture here that o'boy...na school i go for naija soo.. abi na only the simple things them dey teach us for there. You answer all question here in 90 minutes maximum. nobody will set like 10 que and tell u to answer 5 or define this or that. Everything here is calculation.

4. yeah they do and we support each other especially on job infos and academics.

5. Yea difficult cos of language barrier. To overcome it, you need to learn the language cos imagine trying to speak with your flat mate and he or she said ich spreche nicht English....i don't speak English. so matter don end be that cos u too don't speak deustch. though some speaks English but few while some speak but wont want to speak it with you cos they are not confident enough.

6. Hard work always pay everywhere.

7. Face your study but all work and no play makes jack a dull boy so try to get fun too. Remove fear from your mind and believe you can do it. Fear alone can deter performance.

8. hhmmm it depends ohhh. it's love matter.

9. clipper. pepper, and what you think you need.

10 Some are friendly. I cant say they are racist cos close to 2 years now, i have no experience on racism but before i came here i head they were but have not seen any. They love bear as igbo man will love palm wine. They are introvert. They queue but most time their system is efficient so you might not see need to queue. They are always punctual. Punctuality is one thing you will first notice here when you come

Conclusion: You can do it. Nothing good comes easy. Just study and you will excel like those who had. At least Tope is writing his thesis now even though he faced the challenges. So challenges are meant to be faced and not to shy away from. Life goes on.

researchQ: My uncle's friend living in Germany for over 20 years told me that right now if your visa expires in Germany you are tagged illegal. If you are illegal you cannot work because you need a work permit. If a company hires you without the permit, the company will be fined. The UK is better with that. To be legal its either you marry a citizen or you apply for asylum. if you marry a citizen you still cannot work until after you have married with the person for minimum of 3 years and passed a language test. Dont think you can pay for fake marriage there. its very tough for you to see someone to take money expect you have from 16 euro upwards. You must be able to speak fluently before they give you paper. For asylum aka aduro you would have to give a very convincing story why you should be allowed to stay. These processes are very tough unless the easiest way out na to give citizen belle. she born German pikin for you na the one way ticket be that o.
I wonder why people will want to turn to aduro, run away after their short language program, marry who they don't love or give citizen belle all in the name of paper. What is so special about the paper if the person knows his self worth. The only paper one should focus now is the BSc or Msc paper you came to collect here. Every other paper might come if God wills.

xij38580: Please pardon my lengthy post

I graduated 2011 basically studying something I had a zero interest in. Since graduating, I've worked in the IT field. I currently work as a developer. I want to go back to school and learn some basics, some advanced concepts and as well get a degree not just for now but for the future too. Some people say in IT it doesn't matter what you study but I've seen a case firsthand of what stopped someone from assuming a director position was his lack of formal education in an IT related field.

I've tried applying for Master's programs but the requirement is usually an issue, in terms of undergraduate degree requirement. I was in the social sciences. So I've settled that I'd spend 3 years to bag an Undergraduate degree. I plan to resume next year September or January. This sounds crazy and unfortunately, its a crazy that has estranged me to some people.

I've seen some schools in Germany that I would like to apply to. However, I do have some questions that I would appreciate your inputs on. Thanks.

1)For a 3 year program do I have to show proof that I have the funds for my upkeep for the entire 3 years i.e. 650*36 = €23400 ?

2)I earn a modest salary and currently save most of my salary in my Mutual fund account. I do some freelancing and this also helps a lot. As it stands my current savings by March 2015 should be sufficient to show proof of funds for 1 year plus. I currently don't plan on using a sponsor, but if need be can I use a maternal cousin as my sponsor ? He shares and understands my aspirations and he's willing to help fund some part. We however bear different surnames , and he also lives in Europe. Is this a potential red flag ?

3) I would also like to gain a permanent residency status without cutting corners. The requirement is 5 years continuous stay in Germany legally. Is it possible for me to remain in Germany after my program to work ? I believe that opportunity abounds and with God and preparations I should be able to land a job or create a start up. Is this possible ?

Thanks for your patience.
You write so much. Are you sure you dont wanna be a journalist? hahaha just kidding. I support your IT dream cos that's what am studying here too.

You only need to show 8k euro for one year to get your visa. 8k times current euro rate in naira is about 1.8m plus flight ticket lets say 150k. so with 2m you are ok for one year. Keep saving cos it's worth it to invest in your future.

Yes you can get permanent residence here in Germany in 5 years but the 5 ears does not include when you are studying. It starts counting when you start working after graduation and paying tax. Though i heard is now reduced to 3 years but have not conformed it.

dolpaz: Broses,
I once read somewhere that your account needs to be funded with 8040 each year before your local authority can renew your documents.
Anyway, i may be wrong.. Eke40seven, I will chat with you shortly
Regards !
You are not wrong. You are absolutely correct.
TravelRe: German Embassy And Visa by kelly4top: 5:47pm On Sep 21, 2014
tayoslayer: I strongly disagree with with @dolpaz response for no. 1 If it was that way then everybody going for undergrad studies would be lamenting, that's almost 6million naira at once for blocked account for 3 years undecided. Then people going for 2years program (M.Sc) will also have to pay twice the 8040 Euro...lol this will be really devastating for most people because getting the getting 1.8m was quiet tough. I once read somewhere, (although I can't remember where) that only the money for a particular year 1.8m will be requested and the rest for subsequent years will be settled in Germo. Other bosses in Germo can shed more light on this.
Mein zwei Loffel
You need the 8k euro in blocked account to get visa. Here in Germany, you get only 1 year visa every year and has to renew it by showing another 8k in your account.

I have an HND (higher national diploma) please do I need to attach the HND statement of result issued to me by my former school? Or do I need to attach transcript? If transcript, should it cover both OND and HND or only HND? Is statement of result okay ? Or do I need to attach my HND certificate as well? Finally is it acceptable to combine two secondary school certificates?
Thank you as I await your response.
Your OND Certificate or statement of result and HND transcript must be sent together. Though one seating is better according to Lucia Mengis but 2 seating are also ok depending on the stiff competition. Please note that my school waive Toefl for Nigerian applicants if you have at least C4 in your English Waec or Neco.

It is likely to keep going up sef cos the reason is becoming high is that Sanusi CBN has banned the importation of foreign currencies including Dollar. So the demand now is too high therefore hike in price.

The amount stated in one of the link relating to change of requirements posted here within d week is 7908 euros but someone that applied like 2yrs nnow said he deposited 8040 euros. For those that did recently, how much did you deposit? And do I need to book appointment to open d block account at the Embassy.
Not less than 7,908 euro but you can make it round figure 8,040 euro so that every month, you can collect 670 here. Also know that you need to show 8,000 euro in your account here to renew your residence permit every year. I didn't know that until I came here.

Also be aware of monthly expenses...

Accommodation ranges from 200-350 euros monthly
AOK health insurance - 80 euros monthly
Feeding - depends on you.

Special information for applicants from Nigeria

Applicants from Nigeria can only obtain direct admission to a study course in Germany if they can provide either a Higher (National) Diploma or, together with their school leaving certificate, proof of a successfully completed year of Bachelor’s degree study at a recognised and accredited university.

Applicants who only have a secondary school leaving certificate must visit a Studienkolleg preparatory course and pass the final examination before they can study. More detailed information about the Studienkolleg can be found at the following website: http://www.studienkollegs.de/en/.

I got this information above from Uni-assist, for those applying for Bachelor Degree.
