We Africans are always hyperactive on issues we tend not to understand properly.

Human trial of vaccines are based on volunteering. At the last count, there have been up to 5 different vaccines on coro that have started human trial all over the world and guess what? the humans are not Africans. Nobody will ever force anyone to take a trial vaccine, people volunteer for it anywhere in the world. In fact, a US drug maker, some weeks ago got about 1500 volunteers for human trial under 24 hours of announcing a vaccine trial in the US.
The human trial for a vaccine in the UK was given to volunteers in the UK.

Vaccines are tested where the problem exists and that is why they are not coming to Africa to test coro vaccines because coro is everywhere. You cannot test vaccines where they problem does not exist otherwise how would you know it works?. If the problem was localized in Africa, the only place to test the vaccine would have been Africa. For example, as at the time ebola was happening in some countries in Africa, how would a vaccine developer test a vaccine in Europe where there is no ebola? If Africans start developing their own vaccines, there would not be any need for the white man to come test their vaccines in Africa because we will do the trials on ourselves with our own drugs.

When we migrated abroad, the school board checked the vaccine record for our children and told us to get our children to get 2 additional vaccines. These new vaccines they told us to get was not given to children in Nigeria because the disease they were meant to protect against does not exist in Nigeria. Do you think they came to Africa to test this particular vaccine?

We need to open our minds in Africa and develop our own solutions instead of thinking about people trying to kill us

For the benefit of people who did not understand what they read.

As per this news, India is not producing any new vaccine rather they are producing the same Oxford university vaccine that just passed the first trial on monkeys as reported yesterday. Any successful vaccine from any country in the world will likely need India to scale up the production because India has the world's highest drug production capacity in the world.

Putting it in context, they way foreign companies design a product and send to China to produce is the way drug makers will develop a vaccine and send to India to produce because India has the largest capacity in that regards more than any other country in the world. This is not to say that India does not develop their own vaccines like China develop their own products too.

Normally. vaccine production will start when the last clinical trial is passed but this Indian manufacturers partnering with oxford university vaccine developer has taken a bet and risk to start mass producing it gradually now pending when the final clinical trial and result will be available and certified.

So what it means is that if by September, this vaccine has been proven to work after all the clinical trials, they would have had some millions of dosses already produced and available immediately to begin giving people in September rather than starting the production by that time. If it fails final clinical trial, it will become a loss. They have just put their money on the line to start producing before a trial is concluded and we hope the gamble will pay off, it would be an advantage to the world

My greatest worry about Nigeria is that our institutions seem to be producing and army of educated illiterates whose views and thought process are not different from an uneducated okada man who spends his evening in the beer parlor. If these category of people who should be the nation's hope of developing solutions from within are no different from illiterates, how then are we going to ever develop in this part of the world? Your comment would have been sweet if you had an option that is made for Africa by Africans. As we speak, out of about 100 vaccines in development, none is coming from the whole of African labs. The question is what is the exit strategy for Africans as regards this pandemic? Is it that the virus will disappear on its own? What if it doesn't? How do we come out of it without vaccine?

You don't have to worry yourself about Africans getting the vaccine because with they way things are at the moment, countries with money and technology will hoard any working vaccine for their population first before remembering if Africa exists. So naturally, it is expected that Africa will be the last to get any working vaccine.

China is 1.4 billion people and this means they would have to secure 1.4 billion dosses and reserve of any working vaccine for their people first before selling to highest bidders if they are first to get a vaccine. The US is 350m people, Europe is more than 350m people. Whoever gets the vaccine first will have to take care of their country first and their continent so at the end, there is a possibility that the vaccine no go reach Africa sef. So this fear you guys are showing for White man vaccine is not even necessary.

China's presence in Africa is because they are gaining massively from it not because they are your friends or they love you. Is China helping Africa or helping themselves? Both. In fact, in a way they gain more. They give you loan for a project, they use their companies, their raw materials and more than half of their labor to execute it. By doing so, the bulk of the money remains in China while you become indebted to them plus the interest on the loans. So who gains more? Since they built it, they will build it in such a way that you will always rely on them for maintenance, more money for them.

It would have been good if Africans get these Chinese loans and use it on local contractors, they money would have had multiplier effect on the economy but this is not the case. This is why all the loans Africa has been getting from China has not had any effect in local economies because the bulk of the money goes back to China indirectly. Yes, you could argue that the Chinese model is better after all the loans Africans collected from the west ended up in the politicians private accounts without the infrastructures. LOL .

Development is not just about being railways and roads by foreigners, it is about developing a local capacity to solve problems and this is the only time loans will make sense in Africa. This is the only way to maximize the loans, else others like the Chinese will be using us to enrich themselves in the guise of helping us

I don't think it is a big deal. They just have more confidence in their system which is understandable so they will prefer to stay home in worst case scenario. Besides, if you look at how this issue has been escalating in all countries, everyone would love to be home in this trying times.

It is the same way why Nigerians in Canada will prefer to return home because they would have more confidence in the Nigerian health care system which is one of the best in the world.

What's the problem with Nigeria? Is it the people, is it our culture, or is it government? There are many thoughts on this but then I'd like to know how you see it as a recent arrival. Obviously you are seeing the problems that we all here have gotten use to and don't see as necessarily a problem... We bribe to make way, pee on the road..etc.

Those who say the people are the problem point to the fact that the government is made by the people; and I don't mean election here. Those that make up the leadership are the people. They are not from Venus or Mars. The police units that kill indiscremently are the people. The people fill the roads and drainages with plastic bags and thrash and wail when government fails to its duty. Is the problem the people?

Or is it the culture? A belief that some magical being (juju) will make you rich and powerful and have a life if you sacrifice life to it rather than hard work. Hypocrisy is rife. The bigwigs would rather make "audio " donation: 1.5 billion, 1 Billion; but if you look closely that clinic or general hospital not far from them does not have a functioning incubator, not to mention ventilator.

Or is the failed leadership? The failure of leadership is everywhere. They'd rather buy luxury cars for themselves than buy ventilators for the sick. See them begging online for it than buy it

Your post reminds me of sometime in 1999 Nigeria just returned to democracy. I was having a drink with 2 of my friends somewhere in Surulere and as young guys we were exited and hopeful for the future of Nigeria. I said to my friends that by 2020, Nigeria will have its own version of US lottery as people all over the world will be trying to live in Nigeria. I was confident that Nigeria will get it right but I was wrong, I WAS WRONG **Shakes my head**

At any point you look at Nigeria, Nigeria seems to be a country where her past is always looking better than her present. However as my oga Egun has said, Nigeria problem is the people. There is no how a country can make progress where more than 90% of the people in my own estimation are irresponsible and without conscience plus an anti development mentality. It is not possible.

It is this 90% of the people that produce the leadership of the country. It is in this 90%, you are likely to pick the police, army, civil servants, pastors,governors, lecturers, policy makers,bankers, presidents, hailers, wailers,voters, lie mohammeds, FFKs etc. Even if you chase the current Nigerian leadership today and pick random people on nairaland or on the street to replace them, the probability of picking the right people is mere 1/10. Even those who curse the current leaders everyday will do worse when given the chance. There are also some percentage of irresponsible
and bad people with wrong mentality abroad but the only luck those countries have is that those set of people are in the minority while our case is reverse. So the probability of picking the right people in leadership is far higher than picking the wrong ones in those places.

Another scenario: Give a Nigerian and an Asian and a white man 1 billion naira to develop their own communities
Among all these people, who is likely going to use 80% of that money to buy houses, cars and stuff his account and then use 20% of the money to construct roads without walkways and other sub standard things that would fall apart after 1 year?

It is the people that make any society function. For instance, Dem no born Trump or Trudeau or other western leaders not to conduct almost daily live press briefings to update their people on the pandemic and answer live questions from the press. Imagine Trump is hiding in the white house and sending pictures and videos to Americans in this pandemic, even his own fox news people will roast him alive not to talk of opposition. But he can comfortably do that in Nigeria and there would be no big deal, why? the people. Statistically speaking, there is a high correlation between the caliber of people in a country and how the country functions.

Nigeria has been struggling to fight BH for decade, US has
never shown any genuine support, infact, at a time they're

several billions of dollars even all over islands in Africa. In

continent struggling to provide as basic thing as clean

On the other hand, China is building projects across Africa
from electricity to train to Airport, roads, scholarships to
Africans, etc even with their own money. Let's say we can't
pay and they take over them, who would still be using

infrastructure, Chinese? At least they brought them here, so
if we can't pay back and they take over them these things
would still be in use by Africans and improve quality of life,
just like every private business.
US/Trump that everyone is supporting call Africans all kinds
to unprintable names, visa ban, reporting weak sides of
African nations and continuously ridiculing everything we
do.
The list is long. China hasnt done any of these yet, western
media still find their ways into the hearts of Africans to

Look at China, how many times have they tumbled African
govt? How many nations have China invaded in Africa?

many times has Chinese embassy criticize our local affairs?

technology they have to us, that have improved our lives;

What concerns what you are saying with the topic on ground? How is it related? Why are you making it about China?
Is 5G now a Chinese thing? Did the conspiracy theorist mention China or opposing 5G because of China or because of the technology itself?

Please not that the Chinese company Hauwei is just one of the vendors of 5G, there are other vendors from different countries even in the west.
Other 5G vendors include Sweden's Ericsson, Finland's Nokia, Japan's Samsung etc. The only reason why you hear about China in 5G is because Huawei offers the cheapest package and is being said to be more advanced even though this is debatable. This has made a lot of countries to favor it over other vendors. However, the US led West is trying to prevent allies from using it citing potential spying by the Chinese state in future.

It is possible that countries can get 5G without China by using other vendors. Not all 5G mast come from China. In fact, Australia and the US among other countries are using other vendors.

A lot of common men children are working there just that the competition is high. I remember when i did one entry level mobil test, i was competing with lots of 2.1s and first class from all over Nigeria and abroad. On seeing the caliber of people that came for the test, i lost hope even before writing the test. Best graduating students of different universities. I just weak. Lol but thank God for everything at the end.

BY the time this whole thing is over, the world will no longer be as it used to be. A lot of things will change and globalization may likely start disintegrating.
