Are there more muslims amongst the igala's than among the idomas and Tivs. I noticed all the Governors in Kogi State have being Muslims just an observation. It would appear if any state would like to come out of the yoke of Northern Nigeria, Benue State more than qualifies, both Kogi and Kwara has a Muslim majority, in fact Kwara is an emirate with a fulani King ![]() |

while the Nigerian Navy will deploy 700 officersWhat the fuccck is Navy doing 1600 km from the sea. I cannot remember Nigeria Navy having a " Seals Unit" na wa oh!!! ![]() |
All over the world we have career public servants and politcal appointment like commissioners et al. The difference is that commissioners are there to implement the vision of the governor/president. The DG of the ministry is to execute the th eimplentation plans of the policies. These are two different roles. DGs are used to a particular way of doing things and it is fresh hands, fresh thoughts, fresh ideas that can bring the best out of them. That is not the bone of contention. Someone said the Governor is perpetuating an illegality, and I refuse to believe such, since the constitution has not wholesomely declare how governments must be run, and secondly the Feds have no ministers at the moment, what is the time-line to this temperancy. ![]() |
There is nothing wrong in any private concern as long as the Bank is not bank-rolled from public purse no ‘wahala’. If we want we can have “ Ifa Bank” “Sango Bank” or even “Mammy Water Bank”, the wheat would be separated from the chaff at the end of the day. |
Kudos to Katsina governor for his prudent management of the people's resources.Lagos is owing $1 BILLION DOLLARS. ![]() |
@Mikeansy ( 1) There shall be such offices of Commissioners of the Government of a State as may be established by the Governor of the StateThe constitution states equivocally that “there should be such office of commissioner of a state” but the same constitution is silent on the whether such office is compulsory or not. The constitution did not say and I quote “ there ‘must’ and must is the key word here be such office of commissioners of the Government of a state” the obvious interpretation of this section if looked at holistically and rationally would mean the Governors of a state can empower or use resources at hand and that includes DG’s(Director Generals) or PS(Permanent Secs) in the pursuance of administrative task if need be this assumption is just a referral considering the ambiguity and overtly silence or clarity in the constitution. For a final submittal declaration as to the ‘true wordings’ of this section in the constitution there would need to be a princely declaration by the Supreme Court for conciseness clearing all forms of ambiguity and potential bottle-necks. In the absence of such lording over from the final court of arbiter the intransigence within the law would I am afraid just continue hobnobbing to anyone’s whim and caprice. As it stands the Governor has done no wrong. We must also remember that the Feds at this point in time do not have Ministers and PS are filling in for the Ministers. This scenario conjures up another ambiguity in the Commissionership/Ministerial appointments, how long can the DG’s and PS deputise for the Commissioners and Ministers, 1 month, 10 months, or 4 years, that would also need an understandable declaration devoid of any duplicity if not multiplicities. ![]() |
We can't be playing politics of the blind leading the blind. Politicking involves compromising, subservancy, patience and collaboration. The nation was caught napping in 2011 because some salient reproach were rebuffed and not followed through hence the terrible riots that ensured. We need to be prepared for the battle in 2015, we must have a strategy, intellectuals always have a way out, "caucuses is the key" |
^^ ^ On the bolded: nothing is changing anytime soon in that regard, as i don't think the President has the balls to correct such an injustice (as well as many other examples that currently exist in other spheres of our 'nationhood'). If he tries to, the core northern elite will kick up a fuss, point to this as proof of Jonathans' anti-north agenda and threaten a renewed wave of bombings. Though i feel Jonathan is trying to make things a bit fairer.Mr Man Shut-up instead of you to give this Governor credit, you open your ye-ye mouth talking non-sense, Mr Proudly Igbo do you know the Igbo Governors so far are SOME of the worse Governors we have tailing the roguish Governors we had in the SW nobody voted for who have all been kicked out and swept away for Good. Let us just pray Rochas perform. Instead of you to Give Governor Yerima credit you are talking of resource control. Apart from the 6 or 7 states that have oil, and probably Lagos state tell me one state which does not depend on the allocation from the FG. ![]() |
Presidential caucuses would make the electorate of the caucus state grow exponentially; the electorates would be on the look out of one and another and finally break away from the sour yoke of regionalist politics and other parochial affiliates of this disdain system |
Political systems and electioneering strategy evolves over time and as we are still in that nascent and developing stage we should try different modes and apparatus until we get to that holy grail of a formidable, versatile and credible electioneering template that would be both indisputable and commendable. |
I'm not Pro-PDP neither Anti-ACN, but to be sincere I've not seen anything really spectacular that this man has done since he was sworn in (apart from his OYES). The man said Osun is so damaged that they have to really sit down and think on how to "repair" it, maybe they are still thinking, or maybe somebody can help call my attention to something special he has done, it might be that I'm not that current with happenings in the state am residing in.If he has save your state N200 million in 8 months that is 10% of the 2 billion Oshun averagely gets EVERY month then kudos to him. Is Education and health care not free or am I missing something here ![]() |
sounds niceIt is simple any state that is broke, what the authorities should do just strip the past Governors of all his or her asset leaving just one house and one car for them and auction every other thing. Before long all those states in the red would be in the green or is it blue or whatever the colour that denotes a healthy account. |
If the caucuses have been established before the last election someone like Goodluck Jonathan and Tinubu would not renegade on their responsibility. For one Goodluck Jonathan would have known that Lagos, Kano, Oyo and Sokoto states are a “ no go area for him” and Tinubu on his part would have known that his loyalty to the caucus is unshaken and cannot be wavered once the caucuses have made their choice which obviously would have taken place one whole year b4 the Presidential election. If for instance Buhari was chosen in the caucuses without a shadow of doubt the caucuses would have won the last concluded election. Hopefully those in power would see the sense in this proposal and move it forward against 2015. |
Lets not forget commissioners are at the call and beckon of a Governor, they can sacked, changed, promoted, transfer at the Governor’s whim. You cannot sack a career civil servant, we should move away from commissionership to empowering the Director-Generals of the various ministries at no cost to the state, since their salaries have already been covered and caught by the budget. Commissionership is one those historical relics from the military regime that we need to get rid off. At most, most states do no need more than 5 or 6 commissioners for strategic ministry; the DG’s can take care of the rest. |
Have you people thought of the financial implication of not appointing commissioners? He could have saved the state close to N100 million Naira by not appointing commissioners whom in most cases are only interested in “Egunje” chop I chop anyway. At least if you have 12 commissioners, each of these men would probably cost the state a minimum of N1 million a month. If you have to take the wages of the commissioners aides, drivers, special assistants into consideration then we are looking at a conservative bill of N2 Million a month. Over 8 months that would be a saving of N194 million enough to fund the states free education and free health care for under 5’s. |
One of the reasons why Abiola’s June 12 election is adjudged the best in Nigeria is because Kano state despite having a Kano indigene in that race backed Abiola. If we want to have proper free and fair elections in Nigeria “ the caucuses” would be way forward |
It is no more news that Lagos State and Kano State are the most populated states in Nigeria. Going forward a Presidential caucus should be inaugurated at the 3rd year of any president’s term to determine who would be the next President. The caucuses would be powerful blocs who determine where the country goes; it would be the calm before the storm that means the endorsement exercise would generate the same enthusiasm and intrest as any Presidential elections. It would appear in Nigeria of today in our haste to quickly establish and embrace multi party democracy we hurriedly abandon one of the main tenents, ingriendents and exponent of electioneering this is something which from time memorial oils the American democratic experience, what I call and term the doyen of American democracy, “The Presidential Caucuses” it is a situation where like minded men and women come together and endorse a candidate for the Presidency( although in America it is done within party lines in Nigeria due to our multi tribal, multi lingual and multi-religious incorporation, I would suggest it is done across party lines) The states in the caucus irrespective of the tribe, religion or political affinity of the person endorsed would follow suit and back the candidate chosen to the logical end, it would be an irrevocable, stern, and solid endorsement. I must emphasise that the caucus would only be relevant to the Presidential elections, all other elections would go through the current system. Kwankwaso’s recent visit to Lagos made me start thinking that 2, 3 or 4 highly populated states should come together in a caucus arrangement every 4 years and determine how votes would be dispensed in a Presidential election irrespective of how the other 32 states vote in the election. My initial Caucus Brokerage State would be Lagos, Kano, Oyo and Sokoto States, they would be the arrow head for such endorsement exercise. These 4 states in most times would more than likely be in command +/- 17 million votes each election cycle and they can determine and swing Presidential election result not necessary win it outright but give any eventual winner outside the caucus a run for their money |
Stuuupid Nigerians would absorb and accept any lie hook, line and sinker, a building is worthN70 Billion and you want someone to believe that. Do you people know how much N70 Billion is to start with, we are talking of £210 million Pounds or $280 million Dollars. (how much be correct building in downtown London or NYC sef) ![]() “If you get that kind money you go spend am on that wreck” ? Let us use our brains, the proponents of this fallacy even went as far insulting our intelligence, insisting and telling us UBA funded the whole transaction, UBA whose share value is less than N10.00 which equals to $0.06 dollar per share or £0.04 pounds per share. Our Banks have ‘kaput’ long time don’t let anyone deceive you people, “make UBA fund their own survival first”. |
We saved 16.7bn in Katsina State without borrowing a kobo How were you able to do the things you claimed to have done without borrowing and yet the state has about N16 billion in its account?http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/06/we-saved-16-7bn-in-katsina-state-without-borrowing-a-kobo/ |
you sound like someone with more information on this bankole issue than most of us here. please make your stand clear. are you saying ban ole is innocent of all charges or are you saying the figure(s) is(are) wrong? efcc is accusing him so it is left for him and his lawyers to say i am innocent of all or that the figure(s) is(are) not correct. if this speaker of the house responsible for making law can break the law, then tell me the hope of the ungodly nation. his father has all of a sudden become so successful in his business that he bought the necom house for N4b. in your days in uk, tell us how the situation in this country is similar to that country. yarima a senator openly told us that he has right to marry a 13 yrs old girl claiming that he obeys only islamic laws and at the same time making different laws for nigerians to work with. in a very plain language, i will pray that they will release bankole like u said and then arrest your generation both born and unborn over the unending sufferings of the poor and helpless masses of nigeria.I find the idea of holding court for criminals unpalatable those who know me well know I am against and without mincing words and also at the slightest irritation would undoubtedly show my displeasure at any kind of criminality or dishonesty perpetuated in our society, so realistically and in the interest of common-sense I am not in anyway supporting or condoning Bankole’s misdemeanour. Lets call a spade a spade are they trying him sensationally for the making N200,000 per TV sets and some few more bucks from some photocopy machines or are they trying him for $1 Billion dollars, that is my beef and my bone of contention, if they are charging him for paying over the odds for some items then surely ask him to pay the difference. I am sure a man on N100 million a quarter would not have a problem refunding the excesses. Already the N10 Billion Naira loan has been explained obviously due process was not followed when obtaining the loan, for Christ sake and for crying out loud it is a loan, when did obtaining a loan become a criminal offence. ![]() I thought loans were something you collect now and pay later with interest I don’t think and I may be wrong the loan has matured for full payment to commence warranting all these commotion and hullabaloo. ![]() |
@ Ajo Mmno Has d last 3 Northern Ministers been Phd holders, why are we raising d bar when it comes to an Awolowo. I have always said it that name has brought more harm than good to d Gentleman in question, imagine d threshold some people are laying for poor boy, na wa ho ![]() |
Well done OGD! Generations would remember you as the yeye leader who bought Ogun to its knees. Oloshi lasa-lasanGood points thus. But why are the banks that are already broke themselves and probably on a life support machine still borrowing the states money. Common sense would suffice that you get rid of some of the workers in other to pay the other stranded workers or better still you apprenhend the culprit or thief that stole the peoples money. All Nigeria need to do to Daniel is ask for his extradition. If his brought back to Nigeria, his houses, holdings and any other intrest world-wide should be confisticated and sold off, I am sure after such an exercise the State's balance sheet would look good and healthy. We need to deal with issues firmly rather than going on an un-neccessary merry go round. |
Segun is a Pari Is'he master aka chop clean mouf pesin oooo, no dash am FCT post ooo. 4 starters his role @ the FCT is nothing but a title , dats all,e be like say I go soon begin charge consultancy fee. I have said times without number I don't know the guy from Adam in the same vain I have spoken eloquently of other Nigerian Politicians in the past without any monetary gain or incentives. I just enjoy stiring the cup a little creating a storm, issues like this test our democratic values and strenght pushing it to the limit. |
We must not be seen to promote illegality. Why ask such a silly question. A man carries a gun he is meant to defend the state and now turns that weapon on the people grasping power by force and yet we are asking whom amongst these brigands is the best are we for real. ![]() If the poster answers this simple question of whom was Nigeria’s greatest armed robber, then I would be able to give him or her an insight of who the greatest mutineer was. ![]() |
Bankole has just been bailed.I think common sense has prevailed after all, shall we say common sense is truly common. ![]() |
The poster of this thread is obviously an i-d-i-o-t. So we should be appointing people into administrative offices based on what their daddy did 40 years ago and not merit? The thought espoused here on this thread are an independent thought of a free thinker. I would suggest those who feel uncomfortable with the content and material of the post should shoo of to other threads, throwing tantrums at the poster would not hinder and stop this poster from delving into controversial issues which if you like it or louth is part of my genetic make-up. I would not stoop low to loanwolf ‘s level trading in insults and popularity contest so as to score some cheap points in what are my private thought, my thoughts are my thoughts and they are non-negotiable if you like go and hit your head on a brick. ![]() |
what a mo-ronic suggestion.99.9% of your 24,000 postings is full of shiiit, always look for someone to spare with, I AINT Got ya time woman!!! ![]() |
You are campaigning for somebody you have not met or seen before? in Nigeria and you want people to believe you? Why not go to aso rock or NASS. or is nairaland now a place to solicit for ministerial appointments?I am not campaigning for anyone I am only saying if Mr President is thinking of injecting new bloods into the system somebody who has ample experience in a particular Government department would be a starting point , that would be a good asset worth considering. And secondly it looks like you are new on NL, if you know me well(I enjoy writing, and also enjoy controversy). I wrote on why Saraki would be a good President for Nigeria, 2 weeks later he threw his cap in the ring, I wrote nice things on the virtue of Buhari, 3 weeks later “ BB” wild-fire gained momentum and became a “catch phrase” I wrote on how Tura Yardua was holding the nation to ransom and how we are being Governed by a Dead man, 4 weeks after the National Assembly woke up from their slumber, I wrote on some other controversial individuals that many people do not like, like Akala, OGD, General Dambaza, Dangote for Governor and so many Nigerian heavy weights if I collect money from these people I would probably be a billionaire by now, but I am still in England doing my own shiiit. The bottom-line is I am independent thinker, and thinkers with their pens can change and chart new courses for nations, that alone would give me enough gratification than collecting money from people to write like our now famous Mr Omatsheye. ![]() |
I think I also should be compensated after all I'm a Nigerian too, N1billon will be fine.I am not saying they should make him a minister if he is an humpty-dumpty, but if he knows his job, why not, don’t you think he is a victim of his popular name. I am sure he has a degree and he has worked with the FCTA for some considerable time, which makes him more qualified for now than say someone who is an outsider, it then goes without saying if he aspires and wishes to move to the next step up and become a Minister, why not? ![]() And Secondly people are generally envious of their friends; you are saying you know him personally I am sure you would view any appointment he gets as a perversion of justice and not the right decision just because he is an Awolowo, we need to look beyond parochialism and into the content of one’s character. You would need to re-appraise what u wrote, because it is dotted with envy and jealousy an unenviable trend I have noticed by most of the contributors to this thread. ![]() Let the poor boy be, we have had worse people as ministers, everything is “ asiko” – “time”. |
But the US have enough land, they can grow whatever they fancy or are they after the natural resources on those land. ![]() |
Are we saying this gentleman is not qualified or what? Is this not persecution because his name is Awolowo? What are even the qualification of the last 3 Ministers of the FCT. ![]() The door should be open to 150 million Nigerians including Abacha's son, IBB's son and any down and trodden kid, just because a person have a well known surname that person has become Monarchy, haba the sins of the father must not be re-visited on the sons and daughters for crying out loud . Moreso the person we are talking about here has worked in the same place for 6 years so he has the required minimum standard experience and expertise to rule the roost in that department. |
