It would be foolhardy to compare a former national capital city with Akwa Ibom state but with d little d chap is doing in Ak, sooner rather than later it would be an " investors delight" because d start up capital in such places would be 100 times better than Lagos and if all economic & infrastrutral challenges have been met one would make money without spending mind blowing & obsene amount. So d future is looking good for d state.

Abuja & Lagos is a no go area to most investors whose looking at starting something small.

Epe Town still have narrow street just like any Yoruba Town of d 60's. To think Lagos State is 45 years old & her provincial towns still look like when they were governed by Western State, it is shame to all who have being at d helms of affairs of the  state most especially the cartel of " Tinubu/ Fashola" I thought this guys were suppose to be enlightened.

Same cannot be said of Akwa Ibom state whether it is Attah or Akapbio d state has definately moved on leaps & bounds from a backward backwater to one of d front runner states. If this stride continues unabated especially d promise of 24 hours electricity, I as a Yoruba man would invest there, I would put my money where my mouth is, If Nigerians can open Night Clubs & eatries in London, Canada, dublin & SA why not Ak Ibom State if all d ingredients of growth have been sorted out.

To link all LG's within 30 minutes of d capital is commendable, that would stem rural - urban migration. Dualising roads other than d capital is also a welcome development so is his one industry per LG. I hope over-hype Fashola can borrow a leaf from this gentleman about rural development. I caught a glimpse of Epe Town on NTA News yesterday & to say I am disappointed would be an understatement. Epe, Ikorodu & Badagry should be used as a springboard to stall d over-population in Lagos.

Putting infrastructures in these towns and building housing units would justify d demolishing of eye-sores like Makoko which have become a butt of jokes and a photo-journalist delight of portraying " a Nigerian street scene".

Kudos to Apkabio, I criticised him in d past but it seems d guy is focus. I just hope he would be tolerant of opposition. He strikes me as someone who cannot fathom why anyone in d state would dear oppose his development stride, what else does he have to do to appease d opposition. What he should not forget is democracy has a way of throwing up " suprises " Winston Churchill d British war time Prime Minister lost d election in 1946 after winning d war for Britain.

Lagos need a "human misery derivative" from the FG just like the oil derivative the oil producing state are getting. This money would be spent on alleviating and improving the LIVES and living conditions of poor Nigerians, 98% of whom are citizens of other state. Jonathan' s people " boku-plenty" for Ajegunle unless if they have started moving home to Bayelsa since the creation of Bayelsa state.

Politics › Re: Bankole For Ministerial Appointment ! by KnowAll(m): 1:28pm On May 23, 2011
Thanks my brother. I will read it and respond.

As per the topic of the thread , assuming Bankole and other recycled crooks become Ministers, all I can say is "we told you so" . I remember that many of us , including yourself, stated tirelessly that GEJ is "more of the same" . We argued that the most ruinous hands in Nigeria are not behind GEJ for nothing. Jonathan , of all the Presidential candidates, is the least likely to deliver the type of bold, dont-care-whose-ox-is-gored, rigorous and sincere reforms that will set Nigeria on the path of rapid development .

Already we are seeing hints of the deciet and lack of political will many of us accused GEJ of repeatedly . We are told he has directed the NNPC to ensure Refineries are working optimally within 2 years. Moribund NNPC? Madness IMO . This is GEJ simply pandering to his "owners of Nigeria" friends who want an inefficient status quo to remain in place !!! Whatever happened to what is very obviously needed? I.e the transparent concessioning of the refinery into competent Private hands that will always be pro-performance because of the incentive of profit?

As for the power sector , I can only advice Nigerians not to dream of selling their generator. I raised the alarm about how odd it was , a few months back, that the FEC were approving a raft of Power contract when all spendings on the sector had previously been halted till a holistic privatisation plan was in place !!!!

We are quickly receiving signals that we may be in for another 4 years of profligacy, inefficiency, sheer indolence and callous corruption. Already Mr. President , knowing how fundamental the issue of recurrent versus capital spending is, has stated that a leaner Government not possible for now when he did not have the sincerity to make the same argument before the election !!!!

My brother, Nigerians have chosen "fresh air" for the next 4 years. Lets hope many won't choke on "fresh air" .
Bankole is not meant to accept it, clearly it is a demotion, from number 4th person in the nation to been the "errand boy of a full minister" I suppose by being the juniour minister he can still be draw "Ministerial estaco" to travel abroad and  give his beautiful girl-friend "Gbemi" some treats that is better than been un-employed. No woman likes an un-employed man even if you have all the money in the world.

Afikuyomi didn't buy any boat and the state didn't either, Diamond bank bought and is the owner of the boat. Stay with the facts and stop spewing rumors
Interesting to note how our tight fisted Nigerian Banks who would not give you a dime for a genuine project,  if you are not a "somebody" would embark on a spurious and fairy buy of a broken ferry from Britain.  I beg try another line of defence, that one would not hold water, the whole scam was an avenue to launder money out of the state and it was cleverly done to the letter. Christianity Etc › Re: This Is Not Another Pastor Bashing Thread! by KnowAll(m): 3:36pm On May 21, 2011
My personal Pastor is a bosom friend who I went to Uni with so many moons ago. He is not a wealthy man by any standard, has not worked for 20 years after leaving school but the Good Lord takes care of him. He does not have to be Adeboye or Oyedepo b4 I believe in the tenets of the " principles of heaven".

Once I have seen this gentleman give the last $100 dollar note on himself to a poor illiterate Yoruba woman when the spirit of the lord in him spoke to his spirit-man to give out the money, I must not forget to mention he had just being blessed by someone less than 1/2 hour ago and considering that was his last " Claro" or " Dime" but  he gave it out to this lady without hesitation or the slightest hint of disobeying.

She told the lady afterwards that this money is worth N15,000.00 Nigeria money and that the lady should handle the money with care. The moral of the story is there is seed time and harvest time, the day when we put seed on the ground and it would not grow,  would be the day I shall not honour the lord again but as long as seed continue to grow so also would tithes, offering and blessings.

But what happens within two weeks of given such a difficult gift by this gentleman, he was blessed with a tear rubber Toyota Land Cruiser 2010 model by a very wealthy man, the man even told him, he wants him to use his courtyard as a church service if my friend does not mind and that was what he does now but I think he is a blessed man despite the fact he has not got a church he can call his own.

Politics › Re: Lagos Is Owing N124b by KnowAll(m): 12:10pm On May 21, 2011
Interesting to note that the speakership in Lagos is embroiled in a 7  billion scandal. Whilst the Federal Republic's  Speaker is embroiled in a 10 billion scandal. it would appear Lagos State is a Republic within a Republic, they seem to generate the headlines with jaw breaking figures associated with the centre, looks like being a commissioner in today's Lagos would soon be a lot better than being a minister in Nigeria.

Lagos is generating some jaw dropping and envious amount of money, it is a shame the cap in hand and ardent clamourer for more funds  igbo Governors of the East  and the born to rule Hausa/Fulani of northern Nigeria cannot share in the booty of Lagos they would have to contend themselves with the meagre Federal allocation from Abuja or die trying to rid themselves of poverty and deprivation.

Lagos carry go jare, but those in power should remember to carry the poor along. No wonder Afikuyomi is enjoying his commissionaire in Lagos State from what one would have thought was a higher position in the Senate. Some of the spoils of his new job amongst others was  buying an abandoned ferry in London with the intention of making it into a 5  star hotel, we all know what happened to that dilapidated ship,  it is presently marooned on one of the numerous creeks of Lagos without any future use in sight but you bet it some people have made a killing and are smiling all the way to the Bank, and did I hear someone say the God Father(Tinubu) is not a beneficiary of this scam that person must be on Kai Kai or Ogogoro

Politics › Re: Nice Time Magazine Piece On Lagos by KnowAll(m): 8:53am On May 21, 2011
De Soto is bringing to the fore some salient economic theories if painstakingly followed through would bring economic prosperity to many down and trodden in the slums of Lagos. The $50 billion black economy lying dormant in Lagos is only a tip of the ice-berg. Brownfield development in Nigeria and in Lagos in particular is something that has been neglected for ages and needs to be addressed.

Take for example all those shanties when you are on the 3rd mainland bridge heading towards Lagos from Oworonsoki, on your right you would see Unilag foreshore and after that you come to some real rotten shanties by Bariga and Ebutte-Metta waterside, in any economy these are prime land for waterside development. What De soto is saying if you compensate this so called or supposedly landlord by recognising their deeds on the land considering the potential of that land, these down and trodden Nigerians can effectively be empowered by accepting a relative huge sum they would get from such transaction and move somewhere else, probably their own states where things would be a lot cheaper and the purchasing power of the compensation money given to them would go far.

If this can be done, urban renewal of cities would be achievable and  luxurious flats that are in a dire need in Lagos would come on stream. The reason why lagos has one of the highest rental income especially on the Island and exorbitant hotel rates when compared with many cities in the world is because of the scarcity of desirable property.

Afterall it was the slum known as Marako that became Lekki Today, discerning investors should be able to embark on a radical quest to acquire prime lands in Lagos that are currently at the hands of the down and trodden.

So De Soto makes sense.

This could be the Man for 2015 APGA  Nigeria, only if he can perform. Heaven, Please let him perform heaven.
You people are in a haste, a Good Governor would need at least 8 years or two terms to have fundermental impact in any state. We must not forget most states in Nigeria has suffered serious dis-investment by past rogue administrators, it would take more than 4 years to clear the rot.

Rochas should concentrate on Imo State for the next 8 years, if he performs well, by the time he leaves office by 2019, not only Easterners would be baying for his blood to come and take over the reins at the centre many SWesterners and Northerners would back him too, for many years now and since this new democratic dispensation the SE has never had any credible candidate for the presidency. He has a duty to perform, performers at not quitters, while would a man performing at state level want to leave after 4 years when he has an indelible right to be there for two terms.

That is why you see Fashola and maybe Amechi to some extent turn down any overtures for jobs at the centre during last election rather they concentrated on their second term mandates. After 8 years people can judge them. People like Gbenga Daniel and other Governors that had two terms does not have any business in contributing to Nigeria's future, to call them abymissal failure would be an under-statement.

What is wrong with all these Igbo boys complaining about how develop Lagos is, have they forgotten the FG had wash their hands off Lagos when IBB ran away to " Abuja" after Orkar's coup.  when you had a chance of voting a reformist and capitalist in the East someone like Souldo as Governor of Anambra state you turned against him( A MAN WHO PROMISE TO TURN Anambra State to Dubai) yet you voted Obi, a man who has all his shoddy investment(including the laundered money his orderly and driver was caught with in Lagos) , how would that help Anambra's economy. Charity they say begins at home. Next time there is a poll in the East of the Niger vote progressives and not kleptomaniacs and see the fortunes of your region change for the better.

The SW and Imo State are now looking forward to the new progressive Governors coming in with zeal and I am sure we are the envy of so many a state in Nigeria.

I work in a British Defence department, and we are roughly about 300 people in my area, our budget a year is £18 million pounds a year. Now one man in Nigeria spent N10 Billion naira or £40 million pounds for himself, girl-friends and other concubines and nobody is raising any dust about it.

I have to agree that we are a caused nation and permanently doomed if this kind of flagrancy is allowed to continue unabated. What a nation?

This topic does not need all this claims, arguments and counter claims & counter arguments. The bottomline is d Banks are a private concern and may decide discreetly to shun Ohakim and his soon to expire regime if many of us are in d Bank's shoes we would do like-wise if not worse. The press release by Ohakim does not help matters, it appears to me as a man bent on self-inflicting himself.

Obviously it is no more news to anyone that Ohakim was not a honest Governor so by spoiling for a fight with a new administration is tantamount to assisting d authorities in handcuffing yourselves even b4 d EFCC plan to open your file.

I am pretty sure with Ohakim's antecedent,  Rocha does not have to dig deep to uncover d throve of illegality and misapropriation that has been going on for 4 years. If I were Ohakim I would let this lye low & quietly hand over to my successor without any fanfare rather with a discreet re-assurance from RRoch asthat he would not be witch-hunting his regime.

The issues discuss here are all non issues, d Banks no d scores and I expected them to have taken aappropriates steps saving d peoples money since d govt elect has communicated his fears & misgivings.
I also expect Ohakim to know that d bankers tone would change from dat of " oga sir" to ignorance, Ohakim should know these are d principles of life.

If Okorocha "just give the banks a hint" as to the line of action he wants implemented that hint would be made into a "fatwa" and a " currency" by the banks who would in turn react to any sudden and un-welcome request by the Ohakim regime with disdain treating such request as a pariah one not worthy of their time let alone honouring it.

The cold shoulder given to Governor Ohakim might be in the way of feigning a loss in communication between the two parties, the banks knowing they can hold-on for at least another 2 weeks b4 all hell break loose in this end game of brinkmanship between the state and the banks.

Obviously spurious communique from HQ could be presented to the Governor as an order from almighty HQ in Lagos insisting to "whom it may concern" that  all transaction above a certain amount needs to be put on hold untill after the inuguartion effectively excluding any sudden request an incumbent Governor can make.

Under normal circumstances a 2 weeks wait is no wait in Nigeria when you are almost certain and guranteed of  getting the funds, no Governor would knock his/her  head on a brick-wall over such a wait but on this occasion the incumbent would  know he has been cornered and caged like an antelpoe that has little or no other choice but to accept the hopelessness of his sitiuation.

That would be a win-win situation for both Rochas and the Bank.
