Politics › Re: I Think Nairaland Has Been Tough On " Akala" Of Oyo State As He Bows Out Today by KnowAll(op): 8:11am On May 31, 2011
Various discussion groups may have deliberately distanced themselves from the reality that is essential Akala. His boisterous being actually beclouded our better sense of judgement. In righting wrongs, Akala stepped on powerful, entrenched toes and a media-hate campaign ensued. Its either the Olubadan, Alaafin Vs Soun and the rest of them.

Secondly, his rabid dog, Dotun Oyelade made nonsense of whatever finer political achievement Akala had. Rigged or not, the election was quite close and as the saying goes, you rig only where you are popular
.

Nobody is praising Akala to high heavens, the man did not have any business being a Governor, how many Deputies end up becoming Governor, so he is lucky to get 5 years out of Oyo State. The bottom line is the same vigour and energy we use in critising Akala must be used on others too. Obviously Akala step on toes bigger than himeself when he took on the Obas of Ibadan and Oyo Town and he paid the ultimate price for it and rightly so. cool

This sub-urban train running from Accra- Tema(a distance of about 35 miles) cost the Ghanian Goverment $35 million Dollars, How much is the Ojo -Marina line costing Lagos State Goverment- $500 million dollars. I am not glorifying Akala's reign, I am only saying the guy said he left no debt for the in-coming Goverment. It remains for the in-coming Goverment to refute his claim.

How do we reconcile Fashola's deceit over an inflated and bloated contract with those of Akala, are they not birds of the same feather the only difference is Fashola is a " lovable rogue" and Akala is not. Are we not talking of the same Fashola that built Lekki at N1 billion per mile, abeg u people let us be objective,
undecided

You and your dirty mouth! You are enjoying stolen funds in the UK and then come on here to say rubbish like "we've been tough on" a flamboyant criminal. E no go better for you and your family!

Akala is a big scoundrel and he will be back to face EFCC in Jesus name. Go talk to all the bankers in Ibadan and they'll tell you about his INSANE rush to empty government accounts in the last few days of his tenure. Because of this Akala naughty person, my older brother and his family had to flee Ibadan to stay with friends in Lagos when Akala started threatening him because he would not transfer N1.5 billion out of Oyo State accounts into an account that belongs to his son-in-law's company to pay for a contract he awarded his son-in-law last week! I hope that thief rots in jail or dies by firing squad because Nigeria cannot move forward until we get rid of plutocrats like this and their supporters.

Knowall is a very funny person, you castigate Fashola, yet you are understanding of Akala. Akala was a disaster in Oyo state, the state regressed during his tenure, the teaching hospital you are talking about was given to his son in law who knew absolutely nothing, he did nothing in Ibadan, at least some governors will still do something in their capitals, he did absolutely NOTHING.
I am not praising Akala, you need to read through my post again. I heard from reliable source that Lautech Teaching Hospital is one of the best in the state, OBVIOUSLY this project cost Oyo State Billions of Naira, inflated of course " Akala Style" but he did not go "a borrowing" to achieve this feat like some of our over-celebrated Governors you mentioned. Akala is like a Carpenter asked to perform a surgery, obviously he would be out of his depth like anyone would expect but can that be said of those highly educated ones who are sophisticated and clandestine in their thievery- NO.

I Can imagine a converstaion between Akala and OGD Going as thus:

OGD: You know you can borrow N50 Billion Naira if you so wish !! grin

Akala: Oh mean e( You don't mean it) don't U think one would be playing with prison to embark on such a weired proposition, undecided

OGD: When never you need the money we can arrange it for you, obviously in connivance with some very close friends of mine- Bankers.

Akala: Do you know the money I am getting from the Federation account, I cannot explain with facts and figures of how I spent it, how much more a loan huh

OGD: just let me know when u are intrested, there is nothing coming from the sky that the ground cannot take, grin

Akala: Don't worry I would get in touch with u If I win my second term, undecided

And we all know what happened, as providence would have it, Akala lost his re-election.

u got me wrong. i am not making case for OGD nor his ways, rather i gave some economic strenghts of d state to correct your earlier allusion of d state to be poor in your originaal post.

also, its not too much a debt for ogun state economic strenght at N45b, only issue is dt it wasnt judiciously used. the state will get out of it, but it should only hav been there for tangible reasons.

ogun state is one of d fastest developing state non oil economies presently. what it needs most is a disciplined and focused leadership
I would seriously find the prospect of holding court for OGD on his alleged borrowing of an extra N49 Billion to line his pocket a difficult one to swallow and defend irrespective of the financial and potential capabilities of Ogun State. Especially after nothing can be reasonably be identified as an accomplishment warranting such a huge debt-burden to the state.

I wouldn't have minded if he only misappropriated funds given to him unwisely but to go and borrow is like adding salt to an injury

@Beaf

To deal with the Nigeria " Final Solution" on Corruption the country would be divided into a cell of "36 Brigades of" martyrdomner" their jobs is to execute all their leaders at a specific time, date and day to avoid the Nzeogwu mishaps of the 1960's. So Katsina man would let the blood flow in Katsina and a Bayelsa man would do his own thing in his backwater, after the deed has been done they would reconvene and move to stage two.

So Beaf tell your Bros to deliver, otherwise blood go flow oh

Politics › Re: I Think Nairaland Has Been Tough On " Akala" Of Oyo State As He Bows Out Today by KnowAll(op): 2:44pm On May 29, 2011
I think most people don't really understand why Akala seemed so demonized in Ibadan. Rather than fiscal policies (though quite a few seemed bad) and the supposed inflation of contracts, his problem was based on 2 major issues

1st was his flamboyance - a 60 year old carrying designer canes, wearing ankle chains, bracelets left and right and there was the claimed "bleaching". Most saw him as loud, crass and irresponsible and if you ever heard him laugh, na wa! But these things were his choice and I could not see myself judging him over such - to each his own.

2nd and definitely bad, was the takeover of the State by NURTW and allied thugs. I am certain thousands died & I believe it was this that showed him the way out of Agodi Government house. Nobody felt safe as if you were unlucky enough to have them hit your vehicle in traffic, you could end up a dead statistic on the spot - it was that bad. I prefer not to describe the day they came to the high court beside my home. It was terrible!  Eleweomo & co "owned" town and everyone suffered for it. For allowing them such free rein, Akala became hated & lost his mandate.

Other issues remain but the above stand out
But having said all that, he gave Oyo State and Ogbomosho in particular one of the best teaching hospitals in the SW Region. Lautech University Teaching Hospital, he spent some serious dough on that facility. He renovated the acclaimed Mapo Hall, I mean all in all we have to give him his dues, the state remains indebted to no one( so he  said and if confirmed, kudos to him).

Well, while you may think like a Nigeria, where tribal sentiments determines things, this shop doesn't as they use hard fact a available to them. While many Igbos/Yorubas may be in London but they don't shop in Oxford street, including the rich, but sunday markets all around London. While Hausa visitors just like few of them that live in the U.K probably new nothing about cheap Sunday markets.
Talk for yourself and any other new jjc's in town. I cannot remember the last time I went to a "street market" or "Sunday market". My wife(second marriage) who has just done barely 3 years in England is still intrigue by the bargain you get from such places, I know with time she would outgrow the fondness she has for those places.

Gbenga Daniel is thief of "epic proportions", this is a man whose hand is permanently stuck in the cookie jar. How do any sane man explain how he blew N49 Billion on thin air. I cannot recollect the FG holding Ogun's monthly allocation throughout the rein of this ruthless rogue and shady character.

Akala is a spendthrift("of the Barkin Zuwo stork"winkhe mismanaged the funds at his disposal, do we blame an incompetent man at the helms of affair of a state or the man who imposed him on Oyo State, I think OBJ should take the flak of whatever happened in Oyo State.

Ogun state isnt poor, its only being mismanaged. Its currently more industrialized dn any onyher SW state except lagos. Property and real estate is appreciating fast just as d population is faster developing dn other SW states. All due to r position in closest proximity to Lagos, thus serving as receptacle to d socio economic overflow.

Going into a tirade of foul language does not help your case or your argument, you are intellectually incapable to comprehend the dynamics of micro and macro economic theory. How did you come to the conclusion I said they contribute more than the English?

Cretin!

How does your Hausa contributing more than English link to Yorubas having dual citizenship?

You post lacks structure and flow, shows how under-educated you are.
It is time to take on intellectual minows LIKE YOUSELF on this thread and give u a proper lesson, if the British dual citizened and 'English Yoruba-man' has not contributed enough to the British economy can the " Hausa-MAN" have a shop to come and shop, in a depressed economy where all the shops would have been boarded up. The Yorubas are more than a fabric of the London landscape comparable to 'Big Ben' at any-time in the history of London. Get that FACT into your thick skull.

If you withdraw your council tax and stay in the country, you will go to jail.

If you withdraw your council tax and leave the country, you will be replaced in the locality by other nationalities or there will be less social burden for the council to need council tax for.

Your council tax is really insignificant.

That was really a silly counte
You are just being silly, are u saying the " Hausa man" contribute more than the English people in England because all 'Yorubas' I know have dual citizenship and those that don't have are in the process of getting it,  it would be foolhardy to remove citizens of a country from their country, u might as well remove the " Queen of England"  from England. Business › Re: London Retailer Shop Adopts Hausa Language To Woo Customers by KnowAll(m): 11:54am On May 29, 2011
Wow, Nigerians seriously underestimate my Hausa/Fulani people

Equating Hausa people with those almajiris you see on the streets is silly when rich, powerful alhajis and their families are busy making moves around the world. They study in Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and Dubai and come to London to SPEND money. They might be mistaken for Somalians or Middle Easterns because of their Islamic dress but they are there. You don't meet them in Peckham or Greenwich university as many live outside the hustle and bustle of London.

Someone already said "the average hausa dude has far more class than an average rich southerner, all they have is noise, so much talk and no substance" Just because we don't broadcast ourselves left and right doesn't mean we're not here, and the Westerners have noticed and respect our spending power and reserved style.

Yorubas of all shapes and sizes hustling and making a living are common in London, but Northerners of wealth and influence are few but powerful, and they are who the Debenhams, Harrods and Selfridges respect and want to attract.

BTW, Hausa is the most widely spoken language in Africa after Swahili. FACT

Ku zauna a chan mana ku che we bamu da kudi, sai mun gama abun da zamu yi
If the Yorubas withdraw or stop paying their council tax in most of the boroughs in South London services like refuse collection, the police and fire brigade would cease all together. You want to underestimate the " Yoruba" contribution to the UK treasury, if WE withdraw our contributions to the treasury, the inflationary trend would hit double negative figures, how dare you compare the poky little contribution of the" Hausa" in one little store on one street of what the Yorubas have done in the whole city of London. 'Woman' have u been laid lately.  undecided

Contrary to wrong impression " Yoruba" is the most widely spoken language in Nigeria and the West African coast line.

There are  Yoruba indigenous  speakers in Benin, Togo and a small pocket in eastern Ghana,  and EMIGRATED Yoruba's running into their millions in Ghana, Cote de Voire, Serria Leone and The Gambia. These people has become part and parcel of the fabric of these nations. The fallacy that a sparsely sahelian wasteland  holds huge populations of a tribe called " Hausa" is  a misconception by the colonial powers involved over the scramble for Africa, it is something they have to come to terms with. Clearly it is a blatant lie and a sham fed by lazy delusive foreign media who have not bothered to do a proper ground-work over the Ethino-graphical composition of West-African tribes.

In most Pakistani meat sellers shop in London you are most likely to be greeted with " e ka ro" or "se dada ni" or " ba wo ni" than any other language in the West African coast, so are the names of the different parts of meat sold in these markets. I am more comfortable to walk into any meat seller in london and tell them I want " Shaki" or " Pomo" a Yoruba word for tripe and the hide of cow than use any other synonym .

Lets face facts here, nobody is saying Akala does not inflate contracts awarded, like the N20 million Naira spent on/per  " poo-holes" in Ibadan but one thing I would give him thumbs up for is he did not put the state in serious debt. He spent what was giving him with reckless abandoned but did not go "a borrowing" to spend what he does not have, that I call greed.

At the last count,

Gbenga Daniel's Ogun State is owing N49 Billion and nothing on the ground to show, haba undecided

Mallam Shekarau of Kano is owing N110 Billion and nothing to show too. This was a man who had only N100,000.00 in his account when he first ran for office. No wonder he fell out " Buhari"  Ole jati jati- bloooody thief.

Fashola N154 Billion at least we are seeing the money spent albeit it at a very high and inflated rate. Does Lagos really have to borrow?  undecided

Governor Oni of Ekiti State gave out spurious contracts worth over N5 billion, I am not too sure wether it was borrowed money or the state money.  huh

There are others, can you guys on Nairaland furnish us with the other debtors leaving power, at times I wonder why would any sensible  credit institution borrow a broke and poor state like Ogun State N49 Billion that is almost £400 million pounds.  huh  undecided
